Corrie ten Boom and her family were Christians who were active in social work in their home town of Haarlem, the Netherlands. During the Nazi occupation, they chose to act out their faith through peaceful resistance to the Nazis by active participation in the Dutch underground. They were hiding, feeding and transporting Jews and underground members hunted by the Gestapo out of the country. It is estimated they were able to save the lives of 800 Jews, in addition to protecting underground workers.

On Feb. 28, 1944, they were betrayed and Corrie and several relatives were arrested. The four Jews and two underground workers in the house at the time of the arrest were not located by the Nazis and were extricated by the underground 47 hours after they fled to the tiny hiding place (located in Corrie's room).

The ten Boom family members were separated and transferred to concentration camps. Corrie was allowed to stay with her precious sister, Betsy. Corrie's father (Casper), her sister (Betsy) and one grandchild (Kik) perished. Corrie was released in December of 1944.

These acts of heroism and sacrifice became the foundation for Corrie ten Boom's global writing and speaking career which began after she was released.

Ten Boom has received numerous awards for her writing and speaking. Notably, she was honored by the State of Israel for her work in aid of the Jewish people by being invited to plant a tree in the famous Avenue of the Righteous Gentiles, at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, near Jerusalem. She was also knighted by the Queen of the Netherlands in recognition of her work during the war, and a museum in the Dutch city of Haarlem is dedicated to her and her family.

God is My Hiding Place is a 40 day devotional by Corrie Ten Boom. She was a prisoner of war during WWII. Her whole family were prisoners because they housed and protected Jews in their home in Holland. She was the only survivor of her family from that prison camp.
This devotional shares stories of Corrie and her family as they trusted God and relied on Him. My mind is blown away by her forgiveness towards her captors. She truly is a hero of faith. With all that is going on in this world right now, this devotional is very much needed. I am blessed to have gotten a copy from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

I received a complimentary copy of the ebook through the publisher, via JustReads publicity tours. Opinions expressed are my own.

Synopsis: God is My Hiding Place is a forty day devotional based on The Hiding Place, by Corrie Ten Boom. Full of hope and light. the study recounts many of Corrie’s experiences, including her imprisonment during WW2, her adventures preaching the Gospel and day-to-day moments with the Lord.
As a note, the devotional does not present a linear timeline of Ten Boom’s life, but offers various glimpses into events of her life.
Background

Although I have never read The Hiding Place, I had heard of Corrie Ten Boom, before reading the devotional. During the Second World War, her family sheltered Jews in Holland. She and her sister, Betsie, were imprisoned in a women’s labor camp, where Betsie also died. After her release, Corrie went on to travel the world, telling people about Jesus and sharing His message of hope and forgiveness— even with the very people who terrorized her. Ten Boom also published The Hiding Place, the basis of this devotional.

One of my favorite authors, Robin Jones Gunn, worked with Corrie Ten Boom, smuggling Bibles beyond the Iron Curtain. For me, Gunn’s writing resonates with the same warmth of the Holy Spirit that permeates Ten Boom’s. I noticed a definite similarity.

Scripture Connection

There are numerous verses, particularly in Psalms, about God being out hiding place and covering us with His wings. I think that Psalm 27:5 captures the book’s central theme:

For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle;
In the secret place of His tent He will hide me;
He will lift me up on a rock.

Psalm 27:5
Additionally, Psalm 91:4 says it well:

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

Psalm 91:4
Key Themes

With 40 different devotions, the study continually returns to the idea that God is our hiding place. The book is also full of the truth that God welcomes us to Himself, in Christ Jesus. Messages of forgiveness, deliverance from fear and rejoicing in hardship also abound.

Format

The devotional begins with a little bit of background about the author, plus a brief explanation of the compilation of the work.

Daily devotions feature a central verse, followed by a personal narrative from Ten Boom’s life, interwoven with a scriptural teaching. My understanding is that this section is an excerpt from Ten Boom’s own writing.

Embedded within the commentary is a callout page with a quote from the day’s reading, against the backdrop of a nature photo (such as the mountainside on the book’s cover).

Finally, there’s a brief prayer so readers can respond to the day’s message, in conversation with Jesus.

What I Liked

This book was so full of truth and encouragement! I found myself adding a (digital) bookmarks frequently and ended up with 26 of them. The book is full of invitation — to meet Jesus in a personal way, whether for the first time or in a deeper way.

I so appreciate Ten Boom’s vulnerability, throughout. I’ve heard a few of her more popular quotes, over the years, and it was neat to encounter the real person behind these grains of truth from the Lord. Ten Boom unfolds her story to the reader, without shying away from the harsh realities of the extreme hardship she and her fellow prisoners suffered. It is so evident, however, that her intention is not to garner (well-deserved) sympathy from the audience, but to point to God’s presence and power, in the midst of even the hardest moments. For instance, she describes the utter desolation of solitary confinement in the concentration camp— and the joy God brought through a surprising acquaintanceship with an insect. She rejoiced in the glory of the ant who crept into her cell, and listened to God’s voice (rather than bemoaning the ant’s departure), when the bug left.

Ten Boom consistently gives glory to God. Hailed as a hero by many, she writes with the humble recognition that she is a person whom God chose to work through. It wasn’t her own strength nor spirituality—it was God, working powerfully in her weakness.

Did He give her the supernatural ability to forgive her tormentors? Yes! Was she prepared to do so the instant the opportunity arose? No! But God spoke to her in that moment and used her for His beautiful purposes.

She also shares the many beautiful words that He spoke to her heart in sweet moments of communion with Him. And in doing so, she reveals the sweetness of walking with Jesus, concluding with an invitation for readers to invite Him into their lives.

Recommendation Status

This is a book I would definitely recommend. It’s packed with truth that radiates the love of God in a compelling, aroma-of-Christ sort of way.

Corrie ten Boom's THE HIDING PLACE is the second most impactful book I've ever read, and now the latest, GOD IS MY HIDING PLACE, offers 40 devotions drawn from her prolific writings and perfect for COVID times.

Corrie and her sister were sent to a concentration camp during WWII for hiding Jews with her family in their Dutch home. Only she survived and went on to speak across the world of forgiveness and finding shelter within God's love. Highly recommended for anyone seeking hope and spiritual courage. Out now.

Thanks to Bethany House, Chosen Books, and NetGalley for the review copy; opinions are mine.

"If you look at the world, you'll be distressed. If you look within, you'll be depressed. But if you look at Christ, you'll be at rest."--Corrie ten Boom.

Corrie Ten Boom’s books and writings are replete with such inspiring quotes and reflections as this one. Especially inspiring because she “practiced what she preached” in the truest sense.

God Is My Hiding Place is a 40 day devotional based on Corrie Ten Boom’s writings in which she shares dynamic, personal encounters with God during her harrowing imprisonment at concentration camps during World War II. Corrie’s simple faith during complex trials is inspiring and causes us to aspire to be strong in our faith if faced with dire circumstances. Corrie shares her stories through these devotionals to encourage readers that God is alive and available to ALL of us. Her stories demonstrate how to embrace God and His promises, thereby exercising faith. Readers get a glimpse of how Corrie gained courage and comfort from the Holy Spirit as she exercised faith in God’s promises and principles. This devotional book will increase one’s faith in God, deepen one’s peace through God, and encourage one’s spiritual walk with God.

While we may not suffer such horrors as Nazi death camps, we all will experience deep and dark tribulations. Through Corrie Ten Boom’s writings, we are assured that God is with us and will support and comfort us during the worse of times in this world if we turn to Him, run to Him and trust Him in ALL things. She encourages us to find our solace and shelter in Him. When there is nowhere else to go, she reminds us that God alone is our hiding place.

I appreciated her honest transparency and vulnerability in sharing so many excruciating experiences. This book is not a a remote, doctrinal or theological account. Instead, it is a deeply personal, experiential account of her relationship with a living God who sustained her during the bleakest, darkest days one can’t even imagine. It’s uplifting and inspiring to read her stories, knowing such faith and encounters with God can be ours, too!

My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

"Maybe how we travel and the attitude we have while making our way through life is more important than reaching our destinations. Or could it be that in God's sight, the way actually IS the destination?"

"The joy comes when we surrender to the Lord. He does the job to change our wilderness into His garden, and it is He who will make our lives fruitful. When you are fully dependent upon the Gardener of your soul, you will have all the help you need. Yield to His trustworthy hands, and you will blossom and release the beauty of the Lord from within."

If you haven’t introduced yourself to Corrie Ten Boom and her heartfelt journey during one of the darkest times of our history, then you need to make sure you do. Don’t neglect yourself of that blessing. She walked closely with her savior in her retelling of her times in a nazi concentration camp.
Even now, years later her words come to me about forgiveness and not giving up. So having said all that I was excited to see this book come at such a critical time.
We show each other who we are in our faith by our decisions. And we learn how to do this through experiences and the word of God. Truth has the power to set everyone free.
This is a 40 day devotional. It’s longer than most. Corrie shares her life in each day and challenges me to share mine.
I hope you find this as encouraging as I have. Life is messy but so worth living.

God is My Hiding Place: 40 Devotions for Refuge and Strength, by Corrie ten Boom is an exceptional, short series of daily readings that are punctuated by Scripture with anecdotes from Corrie’s life. Corrie ten Boom’s life was characterized by hardship, but also relentless faith. She pursued God and walked with Him even amidst the most horrific circumstances.

As a prisoner of war and concentration survivor from World War 2, she knows what it’s like to suffer, grieve, and endure the unimaginable. But she did so with a simple, pure, tenacious faith and she shares her stories with us a generation later. I am so grateful for her insights, inspiration and encouragement! This will be a devotion I will read again.

The love of God is the answer to every problem, every fear and all of our insufficiencies. When we
trust Him with our lives and do what he says to do, we are safe.

It is not what I feel that counts, but what I believe. God has not forgotten me.

Each devotion touches on the love of God when Corrie was at her worst, suffering in isolation (Jewish Camps), and experiencing the forgiveness that only God can give when we give it to others. I would highly encourage all Christians to read Corrie ten Boom. She puts faith into perspective with the powerful word of God like no other. I love her teaching and her transparencies. She does not claim to have it all together but she does claim that God keeps her together. Something we need to be reminded of! We have a hiding place! Glory

A special thank you to Bethany House Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

My Thoughts: I absolutely loved The Hiding Place, so I jumped at the chance to read more from Corrie ten Boom. God is My Hiding Place is a great introduction to her writings and the various lessons that she had learned. She's so inspiring and dedicated to our Lord. The one thing that I found a bit odd was the version of the Bible the publisher chose to use with each devotion. I'm not a NKJV only type of person, but given the author's era, I felt like the modern translation didn't blend well with Corrie's writings.
But the devotional was a blessing to read, and I think it would make a great gift to seasoned or new believers.
I received a copy from the publisher. I was not compensated for this review or required to give a favorable one.

Corrie is my favorite, so it's no surprise that I would love this. It has many familiar vignettes, but packaged in a new way that is so helpful to read as a daily devotion. Biblically strong, but so easy to read, and so relevant to our modern lives.

Aren’t you thankful for giants of faith we can gain wisdom and insight from? People whose lives encapsulate(d) living fully sold out for God. Sometimes in face of tremendous persecution. People who challenge us to live a bigger, bolder faith?

God is My Hiding Place is a 40-day devotional comprised of a collection of writings by Corrie ten Boom that inspires readers to be bold in their faith. To love other like Jesus loves us. To testify of God’s graciousness even in the most difficult of circumstances.

The entries are short but powerful—it makes an excellent addition to your daily scripture reading—each one ends with a prayer to help us live a life of courage and strength and to find our hiding place in the One who knows our names—and our hearts.

First sentence: In Germany I once met a woman who told me that 42 years prior, she had comitted a terrible sin and since then she had prayed every day for forgiveness.

God Is My Hiding Place is a devotional with collected pieces of Corrie ten Boom's writings. Corrie ten Boom, I believe, wrote quite a few books--including several devotional books. This book gathers together forty entries to serve as a 'new' devotional. I do not have any concern about 'recycled' pieces because there will always be a new audience.

The devotional book might be a good starting place for those who are unfamiliar with her story, her life, her work. For those that are already familiar with her, this one will be a good fit as well.

I am not the biggest fan of devotionals in general. I'm not. I always want a bit more SUBSTANCE than fluffy stories. But I'm making a bit of an exception with this one. Her stories are anything but fluffy. The entries are testimonies that point readers to God.

There's a verse in Psalms that says LET THE REDEEMED OF THE LORD SAY SO. (Psalm 107:2). This book contains vignettes of just that.

This is not theology. It isn't. It is devotional--one woman testifying in forty different entries--about how God has answered prayers, delivered her, provided for her, etc.

I would say the overall theme of the book is that GOD HEARS (listens) to our prayers (cries) and that he is always faithful, good, and gracious. God in his grace provides answers to all prayers. (True, the answers are always in his own way, in his own timing, but God in his wisdom knows what is best and good for us.)

The devotional book also reveals her zeal for the Lord.

I’m so excited to review this beautiful book! First off I would like to disclose that I did receive this ebook from the publisher, Chosen Books and Baker Publishing Group, through NetGalley, a site that distributes ARCs (advanced reader’s copies) to readers with platforms (social media or otherwise) in which they can share complete and honest book reviews.
Now, if you do not know the history and testimony surrounding Corrie Ten Boom, I urge you to do some research. This will give you an even greater understanding and appreciation for this precious literary gem that was published October 19, 2021.
God is My Hiding Place is a collection of 40 devotions derived from the author’s Christian classic, The Hiding Place that she wrote along with Elizabeth and John Sherrill.
I want to start my review by saying out of 5 stars, which is the norm for book review grading, this book should be oh, I don’t know, 30 stars?! It’s that good. I will also disclose that I hardly ever give 5 star reviews. Even my 4 stars are few and far between! This book surpassed any expectations I had at page 1 and had me saying “Oh my” and “Wow” throughout its pages. If I wasn’t saying that I was wiping tears on the next page. I mean this book went through the goal posts of amazing and then hit a hallelujah home run after! I absolutely love this book. You might be saying, how did a “devotional” impact you this much? My only answer? GOD. The testimonies and experiences Corrie Ten Boom and her family experienced during the Second World War as they sheltered Jews from the Nazis which resulted in her arrest and suffering in prison and concentration camps are things that have helped so many through despair and hard times. Her life was truly a dramatic testimony for Christ!
If you need uplifting, encouragement, revelation, salvation, prayer inspiration or even just a warm hug from God disguised as a book, this my friend is your book.
I will be buying this book in physical form for myself and as future gifts to others. It will remain a staple on my bookcase of favorites.

It was during my senior year in high school that I first read “The Hiding Place”, written by Corrie ten Boom, for a book report. I didn’t realize then as I was reading Corrie’s story the amazing impact this book was going to have in my walk of faith. The faith that Corrie and Betsy showed during the very worst of times stuck with me, and their testimony spurred me on to get serious about studying the Bible and turn to God in all situations. Through the years, I’ve had the opportunity to read and be challenged by many of Corrie ten Boom’s other books. I’m delighted to say that her life and testimony lives on in this new compilation of her writings.

The reason I mentioned the above is that now, all these many years later, I’ve felt the same impact in reading this devotional book, “God is My Hiding Place”. It truly could be called “the best of Corrie ten Boom” as these devotions are taken from the most memorable of her writings. Reading one of these devotions each day is much like sitting with her over a cup of coffee and absorbing the wisdom and encouragement she had gained over a life lived totally for God. Each day’s reading begins with a scripture passage and ends with a prayer. In between we learn of Corrie’s amazing life and how she grew to become a woman of God who was fearless in sharing her faith all over the world.

I can’t encourage you enough to add “God is My Hiding Place” to your collection of devotional books. I’m going to purchase several of these to give away as gifts. I’m excited for a new generation of readers to come to know Corrie through these pages, and for the incredible blessings that will come rom reading this book.

I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

What can one say about anything that is written by Corrie ten Boom that hasn't already been written? You can feel the very essence of God in her words - the Holy Spirit speaking to you through her experience and wisdom.

I was actually surprised at how deeply each day's devotion touched me. I didn't realize each day would be so profound as well as timely. Funny how God can use devotions on just the right day and this happened to me time and time again with this book.

I'm not one to write in books or to highlight, but this one just begs to be written in. To go back to later and touch upon different pieces. I love that Corrie often highlights her sister Betsie's faith and trust in God because the words she said to Corrie are words I need to hear as well! Yes, even today. Her father, through Corrie's memories were a strong reminder of how I want to turn my children's hearts to God. I would've love to have known her father!

Any reader will see how God moved in mighty ways in their lives and be highly encouraged. I had days where one sentence was a reminder of how God has cared for me through his provision for them. Sometimes it was a challenge to forgive or a balm for my weary mind or heart. Again, the timing of each devotion was incredibly perfect!

If you're looking for a devotion that would lift your eyes to the Savior and encourage your faith, don't miss this one! It's a beautiful piece of work.

Are you familiar with Corrie ten Boom? Have you read her books? I have not read her books ... yet! They have always been on my to-be-read list. This new devotional from by Chosen Books, a division of Baker Publishing Group was a lovely introduction to her writings.

Whether you're familiar with Corrie and her story or not, this is a great devotional book to pick up. Each day starts with a Bible verse, shares a devotion, and ends with a prayer. Although ten Boom lived in years past, her devotional thoughts are wonderful to meditate on today. Since the book is divided into 40 days, this would be a lovely book to read during the Lenten season, but you can start reading this any time.

Prior to reading this book, I knew of Corrie ten Boom and her life. I hadn't read anything of hers and felt a slight hesitation towards readin this because it's a devotional book. I hadn't had any luck with them prior to this.

I really enjoyed this book! It was such a calming read. I really liked how the bible verses and the stories of her life tie in to make a motivational lesson. It was so interesting to learn more about her life. Corrie and her sister were sent to a concentration camp for hiding Jews in their home. Only she survived and went on to speak about God all over the world. I appreciated her vulnerability to write this and it was evident that she did not write this book to get sympathy, no matter how well deserved. She looked to and trusted in God in her hardest moments. While she is seen as a hero, she has proven that God chose to work through her.

Inspirational, compelling, powerful

God is my Hiding Place was such a delightful collection filled with the wisdom of Corrie Ten Boom. Before this book, I knew somewhat of her story, but didn’t realize all she did and went through. Her story is inspiring and I found this book to be fascinating and encouraging.

Each devotional is only a few pages long and are excerpts from her writings and other books. A short and sweet little prayer is included at the end of each one. The format of this book makes it easy to be a one-a-day devotional or to read multiple days in one sitting.

This is a book that will make you think. It is a reminder that life may be hard but God is still good. I really enjoyed reading through God is My Hiding Place and could definitely see myself rereading this little collection in the future!

GOD IS MY HIDING PLACE by Corrie Ten Boom

Review:

I am about halfway through this 40 day devotional and I love it. It’s okay if you haven’t read The Hiding Place book by Corrie Ten Boom. I haven’t read it either and this devotional has snippets about her experiences in the concentration camp. I have the book on my tbr pile.
The About the Author portion was good.

Each day is outlined in a way to guide us as it tackles different topics like Thankfulness.

1.Bible verse
2. A compelling story in Corrie’s life that relates to the topic. It’s not limited to the time during the war.
3.Insight
4.Prayer

I can see myself using this devotional for years to come. It’s encouraging. I am thinking of getting some copies to share with friends and family. The insights are not very deep so I think young adults will enjoy this too. I know that Corrie’s stories are real and somehow it makes this book more relatable to me. I feel like I want to be much closer to God. To surrender to His will and follow His lead.

I agree with this line from the book: “His presence is our hiding place.”

I'm so very excited to review a devotional by Corrie Ten Boom today! God is My Hiding Place is a 40-day devotional comprised of a collection of writings by Corrie ten Boom that inspires readers to be bold in their faith. If you are unfamiliar with her, in 1940, the Germans invaded the Netherlands, and Corrie ten Boom and her family helped to hide as many Jews as possible. The German army caught Corrie and her sister and sent them to a concentration camp. They shared the good news about Jesus to many people, and God gave her the strength to go on until the war ended. Since then, she's written many books and talked to crowds. This devotional was such a treasure to read, and it was a great reminder that there is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still.

I think it's essential to learn about heartfelt journeys of faith like this one, during one of the darkest times of our history, so that we can share them with not only ourselves but our children as well. Even though Corrie went through unimaginable pain and suffering, she trusted God with her life and is a constant reminder that God is enough.

I highly recommend this devotional and believe it will encourage you to hold fast in your faith with a God that loves you deeper than you can imagine, is gracious even under the most challenging of circumstances, and is our hiding place in which we can find courage and strength. It's one you will want to read over and over and share with your family and friends.

God is My Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom is a different kind of book than what I normally read and review. This is a non-fiction Christian devotional book that combines scriptures, prayers, and the stories and reflections of Corrie ten Boom - a Dutch clockmaker and concentration camp survivor - into a 40 day devotional reading on many topics related to living with God. During World War II the ten Boom family hid Jewish people in their home to help them evade the Nazis. The ten Boom’s were betrayed, arrested, and imprisoned. Corrie and her sister Betsie were sent to concentration camps, but despite the horrors and darkness around them they discovered that God was their hiding place. They put their focus on Him and ministered to others imprisoned with them. They clung to God during the trials and tribulations they endured. Betsie went to be with the Lord during this time, but Corrie survived and spent the rest of her life traveling, preaching, ministering, and sharing the Gospel throughout the world. This book tells stories from before her imprisonment, during it, and after. It is divided into 40 short daily readings that begin with a scripture and end with a prayer. I read multiple days at a time because I was reading this title to review, but I think the length and contents of each daily reading would be excellent for day by day reading, meditation, prayer, and reflection. What struck me was how encouraging and uplifting this devotional book is. Despite everything ten Boom had been through, she remained steadfast in her faith and found joy, hope, strength, forgiveness, gratitude, and peace in Jesus. In many ways this book seeks to help each of us find this in our lives too, whatever our own circumstances may be. I found reading this devotional book to be a blessing. I haven’t read many devotionals before, but I now hope to read others in the future. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone at any point in their faith journey (as well as to those who do not consider themselves to be on a “faith journey.”) I got a lot out of this book, and I hope and pray you will too. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Many thanks to Bethany House and NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary ARC of this title.

God Is My Hiding Place is such a beautiful nonfiction read. Every day I read it, I had something to think about. Corrie Ten Boom’s Faith was so inspiring. This book really reminded me how great our God is. He is faithful even in the tiniest of details.
The book was written in such a way that it really touched me. The devotionals are recounts of Corrie Ten Boom’s experiences and the lessons she learned from them. I found this really interesting and hard to put down which is rare for me when I’m reading nonfiction. She was an amazing person and reading this book written by her was wonderful!

I read The Hiding Place many years ago, and Corrie ten Boom is one of those names that everyone knows. I was pretty interested in picking this one up and seeing what snippets from her writing would be strewn together to make up this devotional. I will never be able to fully imagine or comprehend all she and her family went through during the Holocaust, and yet she still speaks of love and forgiveness. For the most part I enjoyed this read and like that the devotionals were not only thought provoking but challenging. I would recommend reading The Hiding Place first though if you haven't already, so you can get an understanding of her backstory and family first. It's well worth it though.

This was a decent devotional, but I would have much rather read full books from ten Boom. This was not actually written fully by ten Boom, but the majority of the text was curated from several of her works. Her life was an amazing testimony to the power and love of Christ, which is better captured in her full books.

I'm also not a fan of the use of the NLT or TLB translations used throughout this devotional because there is never a need to paraphrase the Word of God.

This is another of Corrie ten Boom's exceptional writings. In God Is My Hiding Place: 40 Devotions for Refuge and Strength, the author's words of teaching and encouragement are arranged into a 40-day devotional book, where readers are exhorted to believe God and believe in Him.

I've always loved reading Corrie's words, and she has influenced me by her incredible example, her words of faith and belief, and her steadfast walk with God, trustfully, as a child with her hand in her father's strong grasp. In this devotional, I was encouraged by accounts of Corrie's life, and the life of her family. If you're not familiar with the ten Boom family story, it's a remarkable one. They were devoted to family worship and to faithful workmanship in the ten Boom watchmaker's shop. As WWII began, they aided Jews (as the antisemitic laws began to restrict them). Eventually, they hid Jews in their Haarlem family home. They were imprisoned, and some sent to concentration camps, when they were found out.

Yet remarkable stories of Corrie's and Betsie's (her sister) faith, ministry, love, and courage exemplified their time in Ravensbruck prison camp. God provided, even in the most desperate of circumstances. After the end of the war, Corrie continued to walk with God. Her incredible and absolutely honest relationship with Him brought her opportunities for ministry for decades, even until her death in 1983.

As you read this devotional, you'll be shocked, amazed, and drawn to the God who loved Betsie, Corrie, and even their enemies. Each day begins with a Bible verse, and then a story of faith. It's a beautiful and intimate look at one woman's steadfast faith in God; a God who loves us and whom we can love in return. Don't miss this!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

I have loved Corrie ten Boom for a very long time. To read her writing is to come to love her. The incredible life she had, (including being a prisoner during the Nazi holocaust) the faith she lived on, is nothing short of remarkable.
For forty days I have read her 40 devotions and closing prayers. This is a wonderful devotional that reminds me of my life verse, "I can do all things through Christ which (who) strengtheneth me". Philippians 4:13
One day she highlights the fact that we often pray and give our burdens to God who promises the Holy Spirit will take them. Later, we are apt to take the burdens back, even continually pray about them. As one of these people who has done this I am prompted to question, am I talking (asking) so much that I am not listening for His answer? This book, these devotions, make me think. 1 Peter 5:7
These forty devotionals share an experience she has gone through including Scripture and each closes with a prayer. On day 31, for example, a portion of the prayer says, " Help me to see each person through Your eyes." This is an amazing show of a faith lived during the best and absolute worst of times.
I highly recommend this book. Special thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my copy of the book. I have already been telling others about it.
Two more powerful quotes.
"I won't base my worth on anything other than the price You (Jesus Christ) paid to make me yours."
"There is only one force more powerful than fear, and that is faith."

What an incredible resource! I have read many devotionals in my time, but God is My Hiding Place stands out from the rest. The devotional parts themselves are not too long, and have such depth that you can’t help but stop and ponder what you’re reading, they are that thought-evoking and deep.

Each day starts with a Bible verse, and ends with a prayer, which are great assets, but what really captured my heart was the devotionals themselves, the bulk of which comes from Corrie’s own words. As I was reading I was thinking about Corrie and everything she endured. Life isn’t easy for any of us, especially right now, but it could be worse, and if Corrie could hold onto and strengthen her faith during a tumultuous time, then that gives me hope in my own struggles.

Despite loving this book I do believe it shouldn’t have been made into a devotional, but instead it would’ve been better as a collection of Corrie’s most moving words and stories. Though there are Bible verses for each day there were days that the verses and the devotional portions felt detached. I believe if there is a daily verse to focus on that there should be a deeper look into that verse, then there could be a shared story to show application of said verse. With God is My Hiding Place I didn’t always feel this.

In saying that I would still highly recommend this text. It was incredibly touching, thought-provoking, and really helped me see my current strife in a new light, drawing strength from Corrie’s words. The suffering she endured is incomprehensible, yet she survived by the grace of God, and if she can be used despite her circumstances then so can I.
