Growing up in a world of isolation and bitterness, Mercy wanted nothing more than to graduate high school and leave it all behind. When her out-of-control temper lands her in the Fremont Institute, all hope vanishes—until she discovers the other residents are more like her than she realizes. For the first time, she connects with others on a deeper level, not to mention the mysterious and unavailable Drake Moreno.
As Mercy discovers her repressed power, her friends guide her into a world of enchantment and magic she’s never experienced. She’s determined to prove herself and rise up in a world she never knew existed, but as she grows stronger, so does the jealousy of a Queen that will protect her throne at all costs.
Start with a 17 yr old with a Mother who despises her and cuts her down, never siding with her. Add anger issues and an out of control temper from being Bullied at school. Now her mother send her to Fremont, a mental institution where she finds others like her and finally makes some friends. The Narrator does a Great job with the various characters' voices and the entire storyline.
Interference took me on a magical journey of a young girl who was different but didn’t realize how different she really was. As we go through Mercy’s journey of discovering who and what she truly is we are brought to so many turns and twists that it will keep you wondering what this girl is going to go through next. This work of art has a plot of purpose for Mercy. She has to learn fast about her powers and get them under control so she can save her a kingdom from her evil aunt all the while falling in love, making friends and trying not to blow anyone up with her powers. Good vs Evil has always been the biggest battle of life and we seem to always see the good win and evil defeated but isn’t there always more evil lurking just around the next page? I will patiently wait for the next book in this series because I don’t want this journey to end. I loved the character developments, they were believable and brought to life on every page. I think this has a unique twist on the magical world of fiction and encourage you all to take the leap and read Interference!
I really enjoyed this book and I wish I had book 2 on hand.
While influences from stories like Harry Potter are very clear, I found Interference to be a unique twist on the teens coming into their magical powers trope. I felt like this was a good mix of The Zodiac Academy meets Harry Potter meets The X-Men (you can't deny that the institute in New York with Dr. Lee and Fitz gives off major Charles Xavier and the X-Mansion vibes). I really liked Mercy, the main character, and how she had depth and some spunk. I enjoyed the magic system and the idea of different magics being paired for life with their partners. The plot had good pacing and flow, though there were a few spots where I would have liked either a little more time, or a little more connection between plot points (i.e., the cat fight between Mercy and Cassie that just seemed to put an end to all of that plot arc despite Cassie seeming like the type of character to not just give up).
A definite recommendation for fans of urban fantasy, YA fantasy (16+ as sex is alluded to but not described), or the fantasy genre in general.
I’m blowing away with this story. Im so Emotional from the up and downs of the story. I never cry so hard on some parts of this story. What Mercy went Thur and what she discover from her past. The Marks the sign and Magic , love as well. Drake wanted Mercy did what ever he had to do to help her and protect her as well.
As we go through Mercy’s journey of discovering who and what she truly is we are brought to so many turns and twists that it will keep you wondering what this girl is going to go through next. She has to learn fast about her powers and get them under control so she can save her a kingdom from her evil aunt all the while falling in love, making friends and trying not to blow anyone up with her powers. You have to read this book and will not put it down trust me. I like to thank you A.F. Presson. I was blow away and can’t want for more on next character as well.
This story grabbed me from the beginning! A different take on those coming of age with magical abilities! I enjoyed getting to know the different characters in this story. The story has a bit of everything for the reader. There is adventure, romance, and intrigue. Mercy is a great heroine. She has been thru so much at her age, yet still stands up and fights for what is right! I can’t wait to see Mercy and Drake’s story continue in the next installment! I definitely recommend this one!!
Absolutely loved it! This book checks a lot of boxes for readers. The settings are diverse with the author taking us on a journey from an urban big city, to a tranquil country, a hidden magical land, and more. The relationships developed in the story are wide ranging with close intimate relationships, fierce friendships, family discoveries, and fascinating conflict with lots of twists and turns. There are magical/supernatural elements that really help drive the story but are secondary to the human elements that we can all relate to. The story comes first and it just so happens that the characters have special abilities. I found myself experiencing a full spectrum of emotions as the story’s central character tells her story. Hang onto your seats with this one. It’s a great ride! I can’t wait for book two!
I could not put this book down I read it in less than a day! A. Presson made it so that I was questioning everything throughout the book. The ending was unbelievable! I was not expecting it at all. The romance through out the story was so good. Loved the characters! If you are a fantasy reader check this one out you will not be disappointed!
Great read! Couldn’t put this book down. Finished within 2 days. Loved how the characters evolved throughout the story. This author is easily becoming one of my favs.
Chore list? ... WHAT chore list?!? So easy to get lost in this book! I couldn’t put it down. The laundry can wait. Magical. Enchanting. Exciting. Totally UNpredictable!
A story that hooked me from the beginning and once I started reading this book I didn’t want to stop reading it. Imaginative, suspenseful and captivating, I thought this was a great story. I only wish I had read it sooner. I requested a copy of this book and am voluntarily writing a review.
Probably one of the best books I have read in a while. I met the author on Tiktok and had the privilege of being able to read her book! I live the twists and turns and cannot wait to find out what will happen to these amazing characters!
Audiobook: This was my first experience with A. F. Presson's work, and I was very entertained. This was the story of a troubled teen who was transferred into the Fremont Institute, where she found a world filled with magic. I appreciated the unique magical powers created by the author. I liked the strong and independent heroine. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Hannah Blaire's narration was great, and her performance added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
This book takes you on many ups, downs, twists and turns. Character development was fantastic from start to finish. I started and finished this book in one day, as I could not put it down.
28/02/22 - What an amazing story! The characters are really unique and the world the author created as well! The powers are amazing and I loved learning about them! It's written so well and I couldn't put the book down! Loved it so much! Someone recommended me this book and I'm so glad she did because I'm happy I read it. Can't wait for the next book!
17/09/22 - just finished my re-read and I still loved this book and this amazing world! I wanted to read the book again because the second book just came out and I wanted to make sure I didn't forget anything important and I'm happy I did! Very excited to read the next book now!
Fantastic book. Looking forward to the next in the series. It's truly a unique take on paranormal. Mercy has a pretty rotten childhood; her mother resents her and there's always been something just a little different about her. When she finally lands herself at the Institute, she's surrounded by others just like her; each with their own set of specific 'powers'. Her struggle to understand and control her own powers, while still navigating her feelings for Drake-a student who she finds herself inexplicably drawn to-is just the beginning of this magical and mysterious adventure. Can't wait for book two!
The book had a very interesting beginning and it made me want to continue reading. After getting close to the climax I realized that this book isn't really something I'm interested in and it's not my cup of tea unfortunately. I did seriously enjoy the start of the book. It was something I haven't really seen before and the way it was written kept me interested.
I got 75% through it. There are some cool parts where the main character gets to use her special abilities to defend herself and others. But in general, she isn’t very impressive. Seems a little needy.
The author wrote clean sexy scenes, but they were still too descriptive. Too much detailed intimacy for my taste.
I appreciate that the author didn’t use much profanity.
This is possibly the best book Ive read in almost 15 years. Honestly if you havent read it yet, go read it now. Its a brilliantly written story that makes you feel like you are in the book. The main character isnt some whiny teenager, or some overly confident and strong woman. Shes down to earth and so easy to relate to. I saw myself in her. A.F. Presson is a genius. Her works are all amazing and I hope to see more from her soon
