I wish I could give it more than five stars. "It's not just a book" Like one of the readers here puts it beautifully and poetically. "It's food for the starving soul, Refuge for the abandoned hearts, And the colours of love for the gloomy eyes."
I am not sure if it's true for the book but yes, it's true for the name "Radha". Radha is not just a name the whole cosmos reside in it, the peace lies in it, the only name that can librate our souls ( Mukti ) Knowledge about God can only bring closer to God but the union is only possible with love and devotion ( prem bhakti ) that's why all gurus put more stress on devotion than knowledge.
The story wasn't new for me, our grandmother, who was a kanaha divani (a great devotee of shree Krishna), would tell all these stories about Krishna when we were kids. we were grown up listening to all these stories but the book is written in such a beautiful way that it keeps curiosity always busy. will Narad meet Krishna? how and where? we keep asking ourselves these questions. Radha and Krishna aren't different the book also seems to suggest that. Like Shree Kripalu Ji Maharaj says " दोनों मे जो भेद माने वाको ज्ञान अधुरो"
Since I am a believer and devotee of shree Krishna there is no question of disliking it, but I am sure readers who aren't believers would also find it a delightful read.
This is an interesting book. It describes Lord Krishna's life from the perspective of his devotee Devarshi Narad.
While in the book, Narad never gets the chance to meet Lord Krishna in person, he learns more about Him than people close to him ever do. As described in the preface of the book, there are 2-3 chapters which are not consistent with the rest of the book.
If it's the English version of the book "MADHAV KYAY NATHI", then I must say this book is the one you MUST NOT MISS to read.
The powerful characterization, quick and effective references, dialogues, feelings and a perfect inception of 9 RASA makes the tale wonderful!!
Talking about the popularity of this novel, this book has been republished 15 times till now! Mumbai University has included this book as a syllabus in Inter-commerce.
It should be noted that the very popular names of Gujarat, Pujya Morari Bapu, Kavi Dulaa Bhaaya Kaag and Manubhai Pancholi "Darshak" have praised the novel...
All in all "Must Read" for Krishna Lovers!! Must Read for all Gujaratis also!
