Tarot experiences begin as shapeless and void as the abyss. As we evolve and develop our relationship with the cards, we move from dark chaos to an ordered, illuminated cosmos. In both the Major and Minor Arcana Ana Tourian has created a beautifully nuanced tarot deck designed to mirror the journey of the soul through the universe. She has given particular attention to creating memorable characters in the court cards that skillfully guide us through our progression of knowledge. Includes 80-card deck with 2 alternate cards, and 148-page guidebook.
This review is only for the companion guidebook of the deck.
This 148-page guidebook contains: general information about the Tarot (structure, elements, courts) and how to read the cards, some spreads (few but nice!), and a page or two about the meaning of each card including the artist's explanation of why she chose this particular depiction and symbolism. (Which is great!)
The interpretations follow the traditional RWS meanings (plus 2 alternative perspectives for the extra cards - 3 and 10 of swords) and are well written.
The reasons I give this guidebook 4 instead of 5 cards are: - Lack of index - I think the "How to Read the Cards" section should be at the beginning, otherwise some of the advice given there (like to make your own meanings of the cards before you read the creator's interpretations) comes a bit too late, especially for a Tarot beginner. - A small image of each card or a few pages with all the images together would be handy to exist in the guidebook, so that the reader doesn't have to keep the deck nearby when studying the book. - Some keywords (or highlighted words) per card might be helpful to Tarot beginners.
Overall I liked this guidebook and I think it makes for a great beginner book.
