A great start to Chris Bradford's new trilogy. An action packed, adrenaline pumping ride. Prefect sized chapters, and every time I finished one it was at a cliffhanger so I had to read the next one. He got me everytine.
I have 3 boys and they all lived the story. Dispite having a girl as the main protagonist they tell me. The characters are well written and there is a huge element of not being able to trust anyone.
This book is more spiritual, and crosses many cultures and time periods. However on a personal note I a over joyed that Bradford found a way to add martial arts into it.
A great first book that has me excited for the rest of the series. Even though Genna is and definitely should be the focus of the book, I am very interested to learn more about Phoenix, (possible as much as Genna herself is). I am also looking forward to what us next for Genna and what else she will learn.

The bestselling author of the Young Samurai and the Bodyguard series gives us a new book that's action-packed; giving the reader an adrenaline rush from the first page to the last.
The story starts with a sacrificial ceremony in 2500 BC and immediately the reader is gripped. The present-day, Genna's life is the same as that of any other teenage girl until she attends her best friend's parents' exhibition and experiences a strange pull towards a strange jade ceremonial knife. She is surprised by the appearance of a stranger while studying the knife and is soon followed by him.
After an attack by him and what seems to be his gang, Genna is left scared and confused. She is confused by the boy who saved her from the attack. Why would a stranger put themself in harm's way for someone they don't even know? I don't want to go into too much detail but all I'm saying is this boy knows Genna, for a very long time, and Genna just can't remember it yet.
As it turns out Genna is being hunted by the Soul Hunters (Incarnates), a group of people who wants to eliminate all First Ascendants by means of sacrifice. Genna and her Soul Protector, Phoenix, constantly escapes the hands of the Incarnates and while the adrenaline rush is high and they perform dangerous stunts, Genna experiences Glimmers (memories) of past lives.
Anybody can be a Watcher, a kind of tracker that helps the Incarnates to spot First Ascendants. Without being able to trust anyone, Phoenix has to take Genna to Gabriel; he is their only help.
This book was so much fun to read. At some chapters, I wished to read faster just to find out what happens next. The dangerous stunts kept me at the edge of my seat and I particularly enjoyed the scenes where Genna and Phoenix were face to face with the Incarnates. The author did a wonderful job explaining the Incarnates, Watchers and others. He kept the descriptions short and it didn't alter the flow of the story. Sometimes an author explains too much and the flow of the story is lost.
The concept of past lives and skills that Genna experienced through Glimmers added more complexity and depth to the story.
I think young readers aged 12 years and older will enjoy this story since there's action, adventure, mystery and danger; everything that makes for a good story. I'm intrigued by this series and can't wait for the release of the next book.

Ein Action-Thriller mit historischen und fantastischen Elementen, wilden Verfolgungsjagden, mystischen Ritualen und Bodyguard-Motiv - ich bin begeistert!
Über den Inhalt will ich gar nicht mehr sagen als im Klapptext steht, nur so viel: Man wird mit Genna zusammen von ihren Verfolgern geradezu durch die Seiten gehetzt und kommt kaum zur Ruhe. Trotzdem ist die Hintergrundstory toll entwickelt und steckt voller lebhafter Details, aber die Haupthandlung besteht gefühlte 70 Prozent aus Flucht.
Es gibt leichte Anklänge in diese Richtung, aber (zumindest in diesem Band) keine Romanze zwischen den Protagonisten und obwohl es eine Reihe werden soll - und dafür gibt es definitiv Potenzial - ist das Ende relativ abgeschlossen, man wird nicht hängengelassen.
Ich würde auf jeden Fall einen zweiten Teil lesen!

An interesting start to a new series, and one I will be continuing. I very much enjoyed Genna and Phoenix's story, and look forward to reading the next book.

Genna Adams is an ordinary teenager until she is attacked in a London park by a group dedicated to killing her in a strange ritualistic fashion, but is saved by a stranger: a blue-eyed American teenager named Phoenix. What he has to tell her changes her whole world: she is one of the few first ascendants of the creation of humanity; a bearer of light, having lived several lives since time immemorial. Those like her are humanity’s only defense against the power of darkness, making her a prime target for the so-called soul hunters; incarnates focused only on one thing: to kill Genna with a specific relic as part of a ritual sacrifice - preventing her from reincarnating into a new life as she has done since the dawn of time.
She starts to remember by means of backflashes (glimmers) how Phoenix had been her dedicated soul protector in all of her previous lives; from living in Guatemala in 2500 BC; being a Cheyenne in North America; surviving the French Revolution; the English Civil War and the second World War, right back to the Roman Empire and ancient China. Throughout, across time and space, although with different ages, statuses, names and appearances, Phoenix had been the protector of her soul.
But will they survive the 21st century attack on her soul ? Or will her erasure from the world increase the power of darkness and threaten the very existence of humanity ?
The author is well-known for his action packed novels for young adults. Before writing his ‘Young Samurai’ series, he trained in iaido, karate and ninjutsu and before writing his ‘Bodyguard’ series (winning both the Brilliant Book and Hampshire Book Awards in 2014), he successfully completed an intensive close protection course. This dedication adds to the credibility of his action scenes; in this novel (the first in the ‘Soul Prophecy’ trilogy) the high speed motorbike chases and hand to hand combat scenes were exceptionally well written.
It was a fast paced, entertaining read; perfect for Percy Jackson (Rick Riordan) fans. I do hope, however, that the latter parts of the trilogy will provide a permanent solution to Genna’s eternal flight from the soul hunters; to remain on the run for all of eternity will be a very disappointing conclusion.

Ich hatte mal wieder Lust auf etwas leichtes und wurde nicht enttäuscht, sondern sogar komplett positiv überrascht.
Man merkt sehr, dass es ein Jugendbuch ist, allerdings nur daran, dass einfach direkt zur Sache gekommen wird :)
Man steigt direkt ins Geschehen ein, es gibt keine unnötig langen Erklärungen oder Vorgeschichte, was ich einfach erfrischend fand nach all den langwierigen Fantasy Schinken, die ich vorher gelesen hatte.
Genna ist total ahnungslos, was genau vor sich geht und so erleben wir mit ihr nach und nach wie ihre Geschichte aufgedeckt wird.
Dazwischen erleben wir immer wieder Ausschnitte ihrer früheren Leben, wobei davon jeder einzelne Schimmer für sich gesehen nochmal eine eigene spannende Geschichte ist, die ausnahmslos locker ein eigenes Buch füllen würde. Das macht die Figuren umso lebendiger und man fiebert einfach mit.
Auch Phoenix ist super interessant, auf seine eigene Weise aber auch recht flach geschrieben. Man hat fast Mitleid mit ihm, weil er ja irgendwie nicht so wirklich ein eigenes Leben hat und man fragt sich bis zum Schluss, ob er Genna nur wegen seiner Bestimmung hilft, oder weil ihn wirklich was an ihr liegt.
Über Tanas‘ Motivation und Ursprung hätte ich gerne noch etwas mehr Infos gehabt. Es folgt einfach eine actiongeladene Szene auf die nächste und dadurch hat man leider nur wenig ruhige Szenen, in denen mal etwas mehr Worldbuilding und Hintergrund geliefert wird. Das erhoffe ich mir dann auch tatsächlich in den nächsten Teilen, die ich definitiv lesen werde.
Insgesamt einfach ein kurzweiliger, actiongeladener Jugendroman mit Fantasyelementen, der es wirklich in sich hat. Die Geschichte konzentriert sich auf das Wesentliche und auch, wenn es ab und zu ein wenig Klischee Alarm und Augenrollen gab, Genna ab und zu etwas naiv handelt und Phoenix manchmal etwas platt wirkt, habe ich gebannt an den Seiten gehangen und hätte es am liebsten am Stück durchgelesen.

Rezension: (kann Spoiler enthalten)
Ich mag die Werke von Chris Bradford sehr gerne, weil er es schafft, sehr actionreiche Geschichten zu erschaffen. Besonders die Bodyguard-Reihe gefiel mir bisher sehr gut, damit konnte "Soul Hunters" zwar nicht mithalten, trotzdem gefiel mir die Geschichte aber sehr gut.
Wie erwartet war alles sehr action- und auch temporeich und dadurch kam ich zwar ziemlich schnell durch die Geschichte durch, aber da es sich hier um eine Fantasystory handelt, die auch einigen Erklärungen bedarf, habe ich mich damit ein wenig schwer getan, den vollständigen Kontext zu begreifen. Dad war ein wenig schade.
Trotzdem war die Handlung sehr spannend, besonders der Aspekt der Wiedergeburt.
Ich bin nun mal gespannt, ob der zweite Band vielleicht sogar ein wenig besser wird als Band 1.

Als Genna attackiert und im letzten Moment von einem Fremden gerettet wird, befindet sie sich plötzlich auf der Flucht vor den Soulhunters, die auf der Jagd nach ihrer Seele sind.
Da „Soul Hunters“ mein erstes Buch von Chris Bradford war, ich seine Bücher aber schon öfter empfohlen bekommen habe, war ich sehr gespannt, was auf mich zukommen würde. Und genau wie Cover und Klappentext versprochen haben, steckt hinter dem Buchdeckel eine spannende und actionreichen Geschichte, die mich total überzeugen konnte.
Die Geschichte startet direkt spannend und konnte mich so auch schnell mitreißen. Die ganze Atmosphäre war einfach total fesselnd und geheimnisvoll und so habe ich das Buch fast an einem Stück durchgelesen.
Der Schreibstil von Chris Bradford hat sich auch extrem angenehm und schnell gelesen, es gab nicht viele Beschreibungen, aber genug, um sich alles gut vorstellen zu können. I Ich habe beim Lesen komplett die Zeit vergessen und war total in der Geschichte versunken.
Genna war eine sehr sympathische Protagonistin, mit der ich auch von Beginn an mitfühlen konnte. Sie wird aus ihrem normalen Leben gerissen, befindet sich plötzlich auf der Flucht und muss um ihr Leben fürchtet, wobei sie immer mehr Wahrheiten über sich offenbart bekommt. Ihre Zweifel und Unsicherheit waren dabei extrem nachvollziehbar, doch entwickelt sie sich im Laufe der Geschichte wirklich extrem weiter, wird mutiger, stärker, beginnt zu kämpfen und findet sich mit der ganzen Situation zurecht.
Phoenix war ein wirklich besonderer Protagonist, den ich auch schnell gern gewinnen konnte. Sein ganzes Leben ist eigentlich nur darauf ausgelegt, Genna zu beschützen, doch ist er nicht nur ihr Guardian, sondern auch ein unfassbar guter und treuer Freund. Er hat es nicht immer einfach, muss schwere Entscheidungen treffen und sich selbst in Gefahr begeben, wobei man merkt, wie viel Mut und Kraft er hat.
Die Verbindung zwischen den beiden war extrem greifbar und es war spürbar, dass sie schon viel älter ist, als nur dieses eine Leben. Ich fand es auch extrem passend, dass es bei den beiden wirklich nur tiefe freundschaftliche Gefühle waren und keine Liebesgeschichte entstanden ist.
Insgesamt hat mir bei den beiden und den Charakteren ein bisschen die Tiefe und Vielschichtigkeit gefehlt, da der Fokus wirklich mehr auf der Story liegt, doch waren sie sehr realistisch und authentisch gestaltet.
Richtig begeistert war ich von Anfang an von der Grundidee. Ich fand die Flashbacks in die Geschichte einfach unfassbar spannend und gut umgesetzt, sodass man wirklich immer das Gefühl hatte, mit Genna alles erlebt zu haben. Es gab super viel zu entdecken und zu erfahren und die tollen Ideen, die Chris Bradford hatte, hat er auch alle sehr gut umgesetzt. Die Spannung war von der ersten Seite an vorhanden und hat sich auch kontinuierlich durch das ganze Buch gezogen. Es gab einige Wendungen, die ich nicht kommen sehen habe und so war ich die ganze Zeit gespannt, was mich noch erwarten würde. Ich habe die Seiten wirklich verschlungen, es gab super viele spannende und actionreichen Szenen, sodass es auch in keiner Sekunde langweilig war.
Das Ende hat die Story sehr schön abgerundet und ich freue mich auf jeden Fall auf die Folgebände und ein Wiedersehen mit den Charakteren.
Fazit: Eine actionreiche Geschichte mit einer genialen Grundidee, einem mitreißenden Schreibstil, einer fesselnden Atmosphäre und Spannung von der ersten Seite. Die Charaktere waren nicht sehr tiefgründig, aber extrem authentisch, die Verbindung zwischen ihnen sehr tief und die Story unfassbar spannend und gut durchdacht, weshalb ich mich sehr auf die Fortsetzung freue.
Da „Soul Hunters“ mein erstes Buch von Chris Bradford war, ich seine Bücher aber schon öfter empfohlen bekommen habe, war ich sehr gespannt, was auf mich zukommen würde. Und genau wie Cover und Klappentext versprochen haben, steckt hinter dem Buchdeckel eine spannende und actionreichen Geschichte, die mich total überzeugen konnte.
Die Geschichte startet direkt spannend und konnte mich so auch schnell mitreißen. Die ganze Atmosphäre war einfach total fesselnd und geheimnisvoll und so habe ich das Buch fast an einem Stück durchgelesen.
Der Schreibstil von Chris Bradford hat sich auch extrem angenehm und schnell gelesen, es gab nicht viele Beschreibungen, aber genug, um sich alles gut vorstellen zu können. I Ich habe beim Lesen komplett die Zeit vergessen und war total in der Geschichte versunken.
Genna war eine sehr sympathische Protagonistin, mit der ich auch von Beginn an mitfühlen konnte. Sie wird aus ihrem normalen Leben gerissen, befindet sich plötzlich auf der Flucht und muss um ihr Leben fürchtet, wobei sie immer mehr Wahrheiten über sich offenbart bekommt. Ihre Zweifel und Unsicherheit waren dabei extrem nachvollziehbar, doch entwickelt sie sich im Laufe der Geschichte wirklich extrem weiter, wird mutiger, stärker, beginnt zu kämpfen und findet sich mit der ganzen Situation zurecht.
Phoenix war ein wirklich besonderer Protagonist, den ich auch schnell gern gewinnen konnte. Sein ganzes Leben ist eigentlich nur darauf ausgelegt, Genna zu beschützen, doch ist er nicht nur ihr Guardian, sondern auch ein unfassbar guter und treuer Freund. Er hat es nicht immer einfach, muss schwere Entscheidungen treffen und sich selbst in Gefahr begeben, wobei man merkt, wie viel Mut und Kraft er hat.
Die Verbindung zwischen den beiden war extrem greifbar und es war spürbar, dass sie schon viel älter ist, als nur dieses eine Leben. Ich fand es auch extrem passend, dass es bei den beiden wirklich nur tiefe freundschaftliche Gefühle waren und keine Liebesgeschichte entstanden ist.
Insgesamt hat mir bei den beiden und den Charakteren ein bisschen die Tiefe und Vielschichtigkeit gefehlt, da der Fokus wirklich mehr auf der Story liegt, doch waren sie sehr realistisch und authentisch gestaltet.
Richtig begeistert war ich von Anfang an von der Grundidee. Ich fand die Flashbacks in die Geschichte einfach unfassbar spannend und gut umgesetzt, sodass man wirklich immer das Gefühl hatte, mit Genna alles erlebt zu haben. Es gab super viel zu entdecken und zu erfahren und die tollen Ideen, die Chris Bradford hatte, hat er auch alle sehr gut umgesetzt. Durch Zufall bin ich auf dieses Buch aufmerksam geworden und bin hin und weg! Dem Autor ist hier wirklich eine unglaublich spannende, interessante und fesselnde Geschichte gelungen!
Eigentlich ist Genna ein ganz normales Mädchen...was sie allerdings nicht weiß, ist, dass sie eine der ersten Nachkommen ist und ein Licht in sich trägt. Ihre Seele wird immer wieder geboren und muss vor denjenigen beschützt werden, die diese Seele für immer zerstören und opfern wollen. Doch Genna ist nicht allein, denn plötzlich ist da Phoenix, ihr Guardian, der nicht nur sie in jedem Leben aufs Neue beschützt sondern auch ihre Seele.
Und wow, es gibt in dieser Geschichte einiges an Action, denn haben die Inkarnaten Genna einmal aufgespürt sind sie ihr und Phoenix dauerhaft auf der Spur.

I won’t lie this book wasn’t bad, especially compared to other sci-fi authors attempts at writing about reincarnation. It was action-packed and the plot remained intriguing throughout.
The reason this book remains average is a lot of the plot line revolves around “HE’S DEAD”, wait no he’s not, for pretty much every character. Additionally after being attacked at the park a young teenager decided to keep that to herself and tell her friends, instead of telling her loving parents who would have done something about it. Last but not least (although it was very sad to see them separated) what parent with half a brain would take their child to see someone who (they believed) kidnapped them and held them hostage? Even if they did have some implication in saving their life.
To summarise if you’re looking for a light read (admittedly with some plot holes) I recommend.

This book has appeared on my Facebook feed and caught the attention and imagination of many young readers. Something tells me this book is going to be one for the ages.
Weaving a brilliant and well constructed adventure with flashes of the past from all parts of the world and history itself it is amazingly brilliant fast paced read. I couldn't put it down and had to know what would happen next.

I really didn’t enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. This is definitely a children’s book and maybe that’s why. I felt that the writing was a little slow yet the plot had not time to build. However, I will say that the characters where developed extremely well. I was not the correct audience for this book but it might be suitable for children looking into reading for the first time. This could work as a great starter book.

My ten year old read Soul Hunters and right from the start was captivated, telling me that it had a very 'dramatic' start. He normally won't read without some real 'encouragement', i.e. taking his devices away, but with the The Soul Hunters he really wanted to read it and no arm-twisting was required. He really devoured the book and now the rest of the family want to read the book.

When Genna is attacked she is rescued by Phoenix, who claims he is her protector against the incarnate, the soul hunters, who want to steal Genna's soul. A fast moving fantasy adventure where the action is non stop. Perfect for age 12+.

This was a decent book at best. After my 11-year-old cousin read it, she claimed it was a poorly written teenager’s diary, too many exclamation points, exaggerated descriptions of heroism and appearance, it was truly mediocre. Although I think she could have been a bit kinder, I have to say I partly agree with her.

It was a nice book to read. It had lots of action, road trips, being chased by evil villains, and sacrificial rituals. The only problem for me was that every single time Phoenix and Genna escape from the hunters, the next moment they get chased again. Otherwise, the book is nice.

This book gave me literally everything. I loved everything about it. From the beginning till the end. The way he wrote that book was perfect and it‘s a good story and was implemented very well. Just loving it!
