I am Steph Calvert, and the thing that most people pick up on is that I am transgendered. That doesn't make me special, but it does influence my writing. I will be blunt: I write love stories. I don't mean fluffy bodice-rippers involving a lot of smouldering, but stories set in the real world, or at least as real as I can make it. Warts and all, but infused throughout with Pandora's gift. How could anyone live without hope?
Most of my stories are tied together with one brutal event, and while I have not written the details, and will not, it is the effects on other people that generate the tales. I make no apologies for the brutality in some of the scenes, just as I make no excuses for the bits where True Love...well, you know the schema.

It's difficult to praise this book more than Steph Calverts previous "Borders" stories but truthfully, her writing just gets better and better.

The whole "Borders" series is an excellent read but this instalment; the second part of Deb's arc and No 13 in the series is perhaps the best written so far.

If you have enjoyed any of Stephs books before; I urge you to read this one too.

It is not strictly necessary to have read all of her works before this one except for those in the Sisters/Job arc's; as those 4 books and Debs previous instalment "Lifeline" set up the landscape for this continuation tale; but you will gain far more by having done so as many of the background characters making appearances here have their own stories told in greater detail in those previous instalments.

One of Stephs great talents is taking familiar scenes and looking at them from different characters viewpoints: She never lets a good character go to waste and long may she continue.

She has already taken a minor character from this current subset of tales and has started a new tale based on that one...

You just can't keep a good author down...
