1.5 - 2 stars?

Not much of a storyline.

Just a quick novella about fucking and some rather insignificant other stuff

And tbh I got bored outta my mind really quickly simply because it just wasn't working for me.

Pity, since I wanted to like it but I wasn't feeling any chemistry or connection between these two and, for once, I actually wanted a good storyline and some good suspense.

It didn't have that.

It's 80% fucking or talking about it and 20% plot.

Plus the cover is weird.

Not for me.

A new steamy series that combines ranch and billionaire?? And from the always entertaining Vanessa Vale? Uhm YUM. And yummy it was indeed- romantic suspense deliciousness. This story is jam packed with lots of fun- danger, drama, suspense, a bit of angst, and lots of steam. All with the fast paced, page turning dynamism of Vanessa Vale’s writing.

Our heroine North has learned to repress her feelings and contain her vulnerabilities, one of the many lessons she’s internalized from her corrupt and manipulative CEO father, Macon Wainwright of the family business, Wainwright Holdings. Macon is under investigation for illegal and corrupt business activities by undercover FBI agent Jed, all of which evolves when Macon winds up suddenly dead. Jed masquerades as a disgraced FBI agent to gather intel on the Wainwrights- and with Macon dead he turns his focus on North, a task that proves increasingly complicated when he can’t fight his very non-professional interest in her.

Jed and North are great characters- in part because neither of them end up being who they pretend to be. North is not the icey, emotionless, detached business woman she first appears to be - she’s just a woman who's been done great harm by those she loves, and a woman who has made great sacrifices to her sense of self for her family. With her first sense of liberation with the passing of her father, she has a chance to chart her own path. And even as we know Jed’s disguise, it’s still fun to discover his real persona. Both have secrets, and both have parts of themselves to figure out. Jed brings all the alpha male, controlling yumminess I crave in a Vale story, as well as all the possessive sexy. And I loved watching their firey chemistry deepen, and give North the safety to find herself. Meanwhile we have lots of twists and turns, a lot of sexy times, mystery and danger, and loads of page turning drama. And we have some yummy brothers I want to know more about! Bring on the rest of the compass!

A great series starter- can’t wait for more!

4.5 stars!

This is the first book in the Billionaire Ranch series and features North and Jed. North is a take-no-shit businesswoman referred to as the Ice Princess and she has just taken over the family business now that her less-than-savory father has passed. Jed is an FBI agent and goes undercover as a disgraced FBI agent to discover some shady dealings that North's father was involved in. When Jed sees North he knows deep in his bones that she is the one for him and despite the fact that she is part of the company he is investigating, he fully plans on proving her innocence and making her his.

Both North and Jed have secrets...BIG secrets...and its only a matter of time before all those secrets are divulged. What will happen when everyone comes clean?

I fricking loved this book...it hit the spot for me. Full of secrets, drama, deception, revenge and revelations AND some HOT AF sex. Jed was such a delicious alpha male while still letting North be the top dog in the business world. He was a dirty-talking, possessive and bossy man with so much heart. North was so much more than what she lets the world see and I really loved her soft gooey center that she let Jed and her brothers see. Which by the way...I can't wait to read her brother's stories. I wish we had gotten more interaction with them! Overall, a great story!

THE ICE PRINCESS AND THE FALLEN FBI MAN

The story is a mystery, with suspense, danger, secrets, lies, and underlying agendas. It will have the prime suspect of an investigation dying, and now the eyes are on his daughter. An undercover operation, as a former resident, and with the FBI for nearly twenty years, he’s back in town, and a cover story that he was fired from the FBI for illegal dealing. It has been close to ten years since Ned Barnett has seen North Wainwright—but once he sees her at Macon’s wake—his agenda changes, and she is going to be his.

“I didn’t move, I couldn’t. I could barely breathe. I felt small, feminine. Dominated, and he hadn’t done anything yet.”

“Nothing wrong with someone else taking charge of you. You’re secret’s safe with me.”

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people. Jed remembers North, the girl his brother dated in high school—now; she is part of his investigation. North comes across as cold and unfeeling, a woman on a mission in her power dresses and stiletto heels. No one truly knows the sacrifices she has made in her life to protect the people she cares about. She was a pawn in her father’s game of business and control. Now, Macon is dead, and North hopes to change the business trajectory, but will she be able to? Jed is working for one of her father’s business partners, but he is a man North does not care for, which puts her on edge with Jed. What happens when North finally opens up about Macon, about his coercion and control? No wonder she trusts no one.

North: So many little cuts, Jed. They barely bleed. But they hurt just the same.
Jed: I don’t know what that means
North: it means he cut me to pieces. Only the jaded, cold parts of me are left. I’m the ice princess, remember? It means I have to wonder why you’re here with me. What your motive is. Your plan. What you’re going to take from me.
Jed: You and me, we can be broken together. Two pieces put together to make a whole.

The story has danger and suspense and will have Jed questioning even the relationship of the siblings. Could one of them be jealous, want North out of the way? What would they gain? He has to look at each person, question motive, opportunity, and advantage. Who is after North, and will he be able to keep her safe? What will happen when she learns he is investigating her?

South: Jed’s going to protect you while we figure out what’s going on.
North: We?
South: Your brothers. The three guys you saved. It’s time to save you right back.

“Cases and real life could be kept separate. Bow they bled together. North was my case and my life. She’d been shot at. Someone wanted her dead.”

I love the suspense, mystery, and especially the romance between Jed and North. While Jed’s cover is he is a disgraced FBI agent, he and North have instant chemistry. North has never had a ‘normal’ life, no real dating, she was controlled by Macon, a bargaining tool for his means, and even for her brothers. She tries to act tough and without feelings, but with Jed; she discovers feelings, emotions, passion, and pleasure for the first time in her adult life. Between them, he shows her he is in control, but she holds all the power. The sexual scenes between them sizzle, and she finds freedom in his dominance.

North: If there’s one guy who doesn’t like to be bossed around, it’s you.
Jed: What changed, princess, is who is bossing me around.
North: I thought—I thought you were in charge.
Jed: That’s right. I’m in charge. But you’re the one who holds all the power.
North: Really?
Jed: You rule me, princess.

This story had a little bit of everything: danger, suspense, betrayal, heartbreak, love, and forgiveness. North and Jed had an instant attraction and great chemistry. They both needed each other in different ways.

I loved Jed. He's an alpha male that takes what he wants. He wanted North. But he could also see what she needed and was just that for her. North is a strong woman that was doing everything she could to take care of her brothers.

Her brothers were great! I loved how they stepped up to be there for her.

North and Jed were just wonderful together. Jed is a man sent back to his hometown to blend in undercover for the FBI. His task is to investigate the dealings of a local billionaire. It soon changes when the that man dies and he must insert himself into the family of that man. He soon realizes that this is going to be a challenge when the daughter North walks in. North has given up her hopes and dreams to save her brothers from a vicious father. Now he is gone and she must continue to lead the family and business. North is strong, a savvy business woman and leads every aspect of her life on a schedule. She doesn't do relationships and certainly does not need a man to take care of her. When her life is threatened a ghost from the past walks in to do more than save her. It is time for Jed to take care of the woman that still believes that she can do it all herself! North and Jed have such sexual chemistry, sassy banter and so many sparks!

What a great start to a new series. My favorite Vanessa Vale book to date!

I loved every suspense filled moment that had me flipping the pages for more. Jed & North’s journey was not easy, but worth it in the end. I loved it so much and I know I will be rereading their story again and again.

I can’t wait to read more in this series and by Vanessa Vale in the future.

Wildly intriguing while steaming your kindle
North: Billionaire Ranch Book 1 by Vanessa Vale is full of amazing characters and highly intriguing storylines. Between Jed, North and the background machinations of North’s deceased father, there is never a dull moment. Jed and North together light this book up, tensions crackle and pop like fireworks. As characters, these two are pretty fantastic. North is one tough cookie because she had to be to survive her father’s manipulations from a very young age. She’s not called the ice princess for nothing. Jed is there for cross purposes until he lays eyes on North again after more than a decade. Then it’s all possessive, dominant alpha leading the charge on behalf of North rather than against.
The plot is kept interesting and engaging through the setting and characters themselves. The setting is as wild and untamed as the Hero of this book is, which may be the theme in upcoming books in the series through (South, West and East). There is plenty at work behind Jed and North to keep the reader fully engaged. Jed’s determination and persistence along with belief and support of North makes the journey to resolution quick, but left me with some exciting questions. As North has three brothers, it seems fitting that more secrets and dirty deeds are likely to be revealed in coming books.
Overall, Jed and North find each other for a chance love and happiness and make that happen despite the distrust at the beginning. This author ends Book 1 with plenty for the reader to wonder about and anticipate, promising more intrigue and steam to come.
I read an ARC of this book via Valentine Promotions and voluntarily share my review.

I see some good stories ahead for this series! North and Jed had obvious attraction between them from jump, but so many secrets. SO many secrets. And which ones will break them? The fact that one of them isn’t quite what they appear, or the fact that one of them may be in serious trouble, or the fact that it could all fall apart when everything comes out? And even with all those secrets and twists, nothing is quite as it seems.

I loved how this read kept me guessing, and I loved even more how everyone reacted to the big secrets. Let’s just say that the reactions weren’t what you’d expect from people who had been unwillingly lied to and potentially set up to be used. Especially knowing the past of some of the players, the fact that logic plays a part really did it for me. So much so that I can’t wait to see who gets a story next and how the next secrets will play out.

North by Vanessa Vale Is HOT. An FBI agent and an Ice Princess is more than enough fuel for the fire.

Most of the Vanessa Vale masterpieces I’ve read have been MFM but this wasn’t, and it was a nice change. I felt like just having two protagonists gave them more chance to grow together.

BUT HELL. The plot! I sincerely hope that NO ONE has a father like North did! I was more than happy to see how, with Jed, North blossomed and started to heal.

I can’t wait for South to get his HEA, too!

Jed is the undercover FBI agent sent to take North and her late father's company down. North is finally under the shackles of her father.

This was an interesting listen for me. Not something I would usually read, but I really enjoyed it so I am lucky I took a chance! I really loved North and her chemistry with Jed!

SooOoo this was chaotic 🤣

And definitely in the "I can't look away" sense so it was a ✨ wild ride ✨ lol

The audiobook for North was only 4 hours long and it's veryyyy fast / action packed but mostly 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I did have a hate x love relationship with the audiobook though because:

1. I feel like the audio editing put the sentences too close together.

So the ending of one sentence and the start of the next barely had a breath in between which made it slightly hard play it faster than 1.05x speed.

But that could also be because it took me a while to get used to the narrator's voice ???

2. The narrator herself sounded bored (ish) and idk if that's her style or just how she felt on the day they recorded hahaha

Edit: I've started listening to the rest of the series and I think it was just North that sounded weird.

Other than that, there wasn't much of a storyline but I'm frkn HOOKED and need to know what happens next !!!

Think ✨ telenovela ✨ and how addictive they are 😈

.
.
.

🧭 P.S. The characters have weird names...

North (the FMC) has 3 brother's called South, East, West which was sometimes confusing lol

Especially when they'd be like "blah blah blah, North said this, blah blah blah, the room faced West" and I'm there like 👀 the direction? okayyyy, keep going 👀

🚨 P.P.S. North has a taboo element...

North and Jed (the MMC) met once when she was 17 y/o and he was 27 y/o at a family picnic where she was dating his younger brother Jock—again, weird ass name—but they never interacted until present time of the book.

North found him attractive, Jed found her pretty... he remembers and refers to her as "jailbait" in the first chapter 🥴

Which might be troubling to some... But nothing ever happens between them while she's a minor!

They see each other again when she's 27 or something and only hook up when they're both consenting adults.

🧭 P.P.P.S. There are a few phrases that get repeated (a lot)...

Such as orgasim / dick / your mine / my man / my woman lol

SooOoo have fun ✌🏻

I love when I see that Vanessa Vale is starting a new series. And this Billionaire Ranch series sounds so good! I can always count on her to give me a book that makes me want to keep reading and takes me on a journey where I can block out all the sh!t from real life. And no surprise here… Vanessa Vale definitely delivered with North.

North was a steamy, suspenseful read with characters that I fell for. North was a strong kicka$$ woman who has sacrificed herself to save her brothers. Jed is a sexy FBI-cowboy who can't help but protect the ones he loves. I loved all the different sides we got to see from each of them—the complexities of their characters. And really, I can't overlook the chemistry that sizzles between them. And let's take a moment to appreciate North's brothers—three gorgeous men who are back to support their family and protect North. I can not wait to see more of them in future books.

"North" is the first book in Vanessa Vale's "Billionaire Ranch" series. The title also refers to the protagonist, North, who has made significant sacrifices to protect her three younger brothers. Unfortunately, this has put her in a precarious situation with the FBI, particularly since her father, the one originally under investigation, has passed away.

Jed, an undercover FBI agent, remembers North from a decade ago when she was dating his brother. He was intrigued by her back then, which is why he stayed away from her. However, he no longer has that choice, and he doesn't want to.

The storyline is highly explosive and filled with intense chemistry, bringing these characters vividly to life. The twists, turns, and surprises kept me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to see what happens next in this series!

I loved Jed and how he handled North. Jed knew exactly what direction he wanted North to be, his where ever he may be. They started right off hot and heavy and never cooled off. The family dynamics are screwed up and North's brothers also named for the points of the compass didn't know which way to turn. There are a few mysteries to solve and relations to straighten out along with danger to North but Jed will do whatever it takes to protect her and make her his, forever. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book about Billionaire Ranch and the family it houses.

This is the first book in the Billionaires Ranch series and it is an enjoyable mix of intrigue and drama that when all is said and done, you will leave your heart down on the ranch. Jed is an undercover FBI agent who is sent back to his hometown to look into some shady dealings by Macon Wainwright. North, is Macon’s daughter who takes over when her father suddenly passes away. She is a strong woman with many layers and is looking to revamp her father’s company and make it more her own. When she comes into contact with Jed, their attraction lights up the sky like fireworks going off yet neither one can explain the intensity they feel towards the other. North wants to maintain her icy exterior but Jed is going to do everything in his power to make her burn. However, there are questions that need to be answered and Jed needs to find out what is really going on because things are not what they may seem. Who will be found guilty? Overall, this is one engaging storyline with steam that heats the pages. I look forward to the next installment.

North comes across as a stone cold personality and yet that for me is not what she is like. There is so much more to her and her life but she’s hiding it away because she needs to protect her family. It makes me sad that she does not see the beauty in life. She should but it is very hard for her and honestly many people probably feel very similar to her as well.

Jed is one of those characters where I love to hate him and hate to love him especially in the beginning. His demeanour and his actions towards North frustrated me but I do understand his reasoning for it. His approach could have been better but the story dictates personality or personality dictates the story – either way I fell in love with his growth and how much he changed on this journey.

This is my first book by this author so I was intrigued to see what it would entail and how it would play out. I found myself smiling at the antics of North and Ned. They are two very different people with very different outlooks on life which is not a bad thing to be honest. I really did enjoy the pacing and direction of this story. I would definitely read more from this author.

'I see you, princess."

Loved It, Loved It, Loved It! What a brilliant start to this new series by Vanessa Vale. It was hot, it was full of intrigue and suspense and the storyline was off the charts.

Jed and North knew each other over 10 years ago, she was 19 and going out with his brother and he was nearly 30, but from that first meeting Jed felt a spark, but when North dumped his brother their paths never crossed again, until now. North's father has just died, and she is now the CEO of his company, for all of her life she toed the line and did what she had to do to give her brothers the freedom she never had. But Jed returns on the day of her fathers funeral, and he is there to ensure a deal her father made is kept, but all is not what it seems - lies, betrayal and lust are all played out beautiful in North and Jed's story.

Coming soon will be each of North's brothers, ones not to miss.

Rough summary

Jed Barnett’s latest mission is an undercover one, where he returns home as a disgraced former FBI agent, fired for the illegal handling of his cases. His new job: to find dirt, and any kind of proof, on Wainright Holdings former and current CEO. Specifically regarding their involvement in corrupt business deals.
After her father’s death, North Wainright took over as the CEO of Wainright Holding. Having been raised, or better said groomed, her entire life to take over said company, North hasn’t got time for anything but work. Though it may seem, to the outside world, like she’d been living a fairytale life, nothing could be further from the truth.
North has a lot of secrets hidden under her ice queen façade, ones that Jed would like to crack open.
But the only question he’s now concerned over, is her involvement in the corrupt business her father had led.

Review

I’m quite familiar with Vanessa Vale’s style of writing and ‘themes’, if you will. Having read and loved Rough, book one of the Wolf Ranch series, I knew what to somewhat expect. The blurb was intriguing and not at all misleading, I got exactly what I was promised, and some more.

The storyline was great, and it kept me hooked from the get-go. With characters you can’t help but side-eye at times, and situations that’ll make you anxious for said characters, mixed with a healthy (yes, healthy) amount of steam. This book kept me up all night. But it was also such a quick read, at least it was for me.

But however much I might’ve liked it, there were no trigger/content warnings, when in my opinion, there should have been. Because this story does in fact mention, quite often, certain sensitive topics. Example one of a sensitive topic would be the use of a date r*pe drug used on a sleazy scumbag to get out of a ‘sexual favor’ made by her father to a potential business connection. She’d been coerced into similar ‘sexual favors’, blackmailed, just so she could keep her younger brothers out of the same mess she was in. They do not go into details, but her backstory definitely needed a heads-up at the beginning of this story.

Now, North Wainright is one of the strongest female characters I’ve read in a while. Having grown up as the ‘heir’ of the family business, she’d been trained, or groomed to be specific, by her father, to one day take-over said company. North has been through some terrible things in her life, nothing a teen had to even know about, much less experience. Especially from a parental figure. But even though she’d been going through these terrible things, she kept it together and somehow managed to get her brothers out of the life she, their father, led. She sacrificed her life, herself, to save her brothers. To make sure they could live their lives the way they wanted, to chase their dreams. All the while, North’s life crumbled underneath her feet. To live the life she did, to survive it, she had to be strong. Or at least appear it on the outside. Underneath her ice queen façade was a woman hiding her true feelings, her emotions, from the world. Because her feelings would make her seem vulnerable, weak. And that’s not something you’d want in the life she led. North Wainright was such a strong character, she was protective of her brothers, and she’s a survivor.

Jed was a straight-up alphahole. One of the first things he thought when he saw North at her father’s wake, was how he’d like to get his hands all over her body. First of all, there’s a dead body in the room, sir. Second of all, while on mission, it’s best to think with the head on your shoulders, not the one in your pants.
Back to my point. Yes, Jed Barnett was an absolute alphahole. He knew that, North knew it, everyone knew that. But according to both Jed and North, that was exactly what she needed in her life. Someone she could read the rules to, have them actually abide by said rules, but at the same time, for her not to be in charge of the situation. She could but the boss, be bossy, be in charge, of anything and anyone outside of the bedroom. But behind closed doors, he abided by her rules, but was the one actually in charge.
Jed as a character was the cliché alpha-male. He referred to North as ‘his woman’ and ‘mine’. He was a little possessive, but also very caring when it came to North’s wellbeing. He was also very protective of her, even when it came to her brothers. Honestly, I didn’t mind it all that much.

I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Erotic, Mysterious and Intense, the new Billionaire Ranch series will keep readers engaged and begging for more.

Follow Jed as he works undercover to figure out if the woman he knew of as a teenager is as crooked as her late father or not. These two heat up the pages as Jed discovers how to melt the ice around North’s heart and explore the seriously steamy attraction between them. Readers should be prepared for secrets to be revealed, mysteries to be solved and passion to be released as they follow Jed and North on a path to relationship neither one expected.
