Lucy knows there must be something, somewhere, that can tell her why she was chosen to see the terrible visions; why she feels the shadowy presence all around her. But what? Could the explanation lie with the mysterious stranger claiming to be Byron's brother? As Lucy searches desperately for answers, she knows time is running out. Too many people have disappeared—or worse—and the constant feeling of being surrounded by something truly evil grows stronger each night.
Richie Tankersley Cusick is the bestselling young adult author of over 25 titles, including two adult horror titles, Scarecrow and Blood Roots. Her popularity grew at the height of the horror/YA boom in the late '80s/early '90s, particularly with books like Lifeguard , Trick or Treat and Teacher's Pet, just to name a few, allowing her to keep company on the bestseller paperback lists with the likes of R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike. Her fan base expanded about the time she changed publishers to Archway/Pocket Books with titles like Vampire and Someone at the Door.
Are these books meant to progress at a pace slower than that of daytime soap operas? So glad we were introduced to Byron's brother on page one and didn't learn anything of particular interest for a whole book. Our rapey-stalker bad guy is closer than ever to achieving his Master Plan, apparently. Is he a vampire? Is he a werewolf? Is he a mother-fucking dementor? Calling it now: Matt is actually our bad guy and is going to try to eat Lucy. More Dakota less everyone else, please. SIGHHHHH. One more book to go and I am done with this series. Bless.
The thing that has been harassing Lucy has just killed. It's in the cemetery and Lucy approaches. Lucy finds someone who says he is Byron's brother. He's been attacked and something has taken a bite out of him, literally.
Another girl gets killed. Almost all of the blood was drained from her body.
The guy or thing that is after Lucy talks about Lucy's transition, her body changing for some reason. Her personality is also becoming slightly dark.
And that pretty much sums up the book. It just isn't that interesting of a book. The three volumes I have read so far are very similar and could really have been condensed into one volume.
The series started dragging by the time I finished this installment, which is why I still haven't read the final book as of writing this (2 years). I had a good start, but I think four books was too many, even if they are short.
I honestly couldn’t tell what was happening. The FMC seemed way too delusional to function normally, and I’m honestly shocked she didn’t end up running someone over.
For the third installment, of this spooky paranormal series, we get a main character that is no longer rational, but has disintegrated into a blubbering… hot mess. In the first two books, she was recovering from the death of her mother, sudden disappearance of step-cousin Angela and beloved best friend Byron. So, her break with reality was much more understandable.
However, by the time readers get to the third book, we are greeted with a Lucy that can only be described as mentally unstable. Because that is the only way to explain her odd decision to help house a severely injured guy; who claims to be Byron brother. She even mentally doubts that this mysterious guy story, but pushes it aside to risk her life in saving this stranger. Common sense would point out if you find an injured person to A) Call an ambulance/Cops, B) Rush them to the nearest hospital or C) Leave them bleeding to death in a dirty old church cellar. If you skipped over A and B to pick the letter C …then congratulations you’re just as nuts as Lucy.
The author’s favorite word in this book is “mysterious” she overuses it often. Lucy incessant hope that everything bad happening to her was childish pranks by classmates…was ridiculous. I notice that when Lucy is headed into a dangerous situation…she never says no I will do it…instead she literally talks herself into a suicide mission. There are numerous moments like this in the book. It became rather annoying after some time.
3.75 stars. This was good. Don't be mistaken, it's only really good compared to book one! Sooo much better than the first. The firsr was a hot messssd. But this one was more well rounded. And it's also the one I read the first time I randomly picked up this series years and years back~my first venture into horror. It's not that 'horror-like' but it's got thay thriller element. This one had a bit of a twisted development, a romance (not really) that just leaves you hanging at end (sort of). Of course there are books wayyyyt better than this but for something quick and light (in a manner of speaking) on things this filled me in pretty quick. It doesn't have the depth of books nowadays though and if it wasn't because I was interested in finding books from the past to give me a blast of nostalgia then I wouldn't have bothered!
Seriously, what in the ever loving hell did I just read? I mean...I just...I didn't think that this series could get anymore slow, dumb, and unnecessary... BUT WAS I WRONG. I can't believe this got published. Lucy is so...irritating and annoying and stupid and she repeats herself ALL THE DAMN TIME and the "killer" is really just annoying and not all that scary at all. The only person I like is Dakota, and I wish she was the main character, because I just want to kill Lucy. Thankfully I only have one more book left in this tragically horrible series. I can't believe I wasted my money on it in the first place.
Again, this was just okay. I liked the whole "Jared" thing however, I'm pretty sure these books are actually about vampires and werewolves which is disappointing =/! I'm very glad I'm on the last one I just wanna know what the hell is gonna happen!
this was one of the first books I started reading in middle school that heloed my transition into the supernatural genre. it had alot of mystery and suspense that I liked becadue it wasnt obvious at all who the killer and staler if poor lucy. we didnt get a clue to who the mystery person is at all until LITERALLY the last few chapters other the LAST book. which was excellent. im quite oerceptive so I hate finding out who it is three chapters into the book even though it isn't revealled until later to the hero/heroine.itnmakes a book a complete waste of my time . plus it wasnt dragging on about who it was. Although I was frustrated that I couldn't find out who it was it was a good frustration. plus the seductive fear the stalker caused me to fall in love with until I found out who he was. the series as a whole is good so this review is for all four books.
I read this series when I was young so the effect it had on me was worth 5 stars even though if I had read it as a 19 year old it probably wouldnt more than 3 three stars or a four.
Book three, Blood Brothers. I think this was my favorite of all four books. There wasn't much "filler" that I had to skip over, which is good, because I HATE paying for a book, then having to skim through it. But anyways! Lucy has to figure out exactly what/who is constantly following her, and attacking people in the town while helping Jared and wondering if she SHOULDN'T be helping him...he showed up out of the blue and wants no one to know he is there. Who is Jared? Jared is Byron's brother that no one knew about.
There's so much about this series that is original and engaging. But at the same time there's so much that I could have written when I was 13. One of the major plot points in this book was actually something I wrote a few years ago, almost word for word. Yet I still really enjoy this series, it's a bit like a guilty pleasure. I know that I stopped reading stuff like this ages ago (but I did start this series a good few years ago). It's so easy to read. This isn't fine literature, it won't stand the test of time. But as something to read when you can't seem to stick to anything else, it's perfect.
I really like The Unseen series but for me it has lost it's horror coming to the second and third book. It hasn't gotten my heart racing like the first book did and I'm starting to predict just about everything that comes up next. I still need to read the fourth book (hopefully I can get to the library today).
I do like the books very much, it only takes me a day to read them, but they don't scare me.
Certainly increasingly mysterious but also slow. There were moments where there were similarities with Jared and the monster, but it didn't go further than that, of course. Jared was an interesting character. Poor Dakota. She was the only bright character in this book, and the fact that we never see what happened to her was sad. Also more Matt, and a new brother of Byron who's not-Jared. Definitely interesting.

This is the third book in the Unseen trilogy. This book adds even more mytery and confusion into the mix. The story line is great and it makes you really feel like you are ther with the main charactor, Lucy. Definatly one of my favorites.
This book is amazing. I remember that when I was sitting and reading this book all alone in my house even I little creak would scare me. These series r one of my favorite series of all time:) I would recommend this book to everybody:)
Another great book in the series. This book kept me guessing the whole time. I kept going back and forth trying to figure out who the bad guy is. I still am not completely sure what is happening but the series has kept me interested. I am excited for the ending to see what happens.
I loved every book in the Unseen series, I read each of them in less than a day a piece. I could just not put them down. I don't usually like paranormal type books but this one just keeps you on the edge of your seat.
