After accepting the adulterous ways of her cheating husband for years, Melanie Long is ready to slam the door on that chapter of her life and find what brings her joy-with her soon-to-be-ex's wallet. Wanting to experience all the things she missed out on in her twenty's, Melanie's intentions were to have a space of her own, reconnect with family, and find someone to fulfill her physical needs that have gone neglected for so long. However, getting involved with Warrick Jones may have been more than what she bargained for. Warrick Jones lived a very meticulous life. He had to have control over everything. It was the only way to keep his demons at bay. When it came to Warrick's physical needs, maintaining control was not up for debate. However, Melanie knocked him off his square with her beauty and smart mouth. Warrick was intrigued by her, and thought he was up for the challenge of making Melanie submit. Love After contains mature themes surrounding BDSM.

I'm really bombed I didn't enjoy Love After as much as I thought I would. And, I was really excited Melanie finally got her time to shine and tell her story. But, a las, this book just didn't give what I was expecting. I'm not a huge fan of BDSM storylines but, that's not why I didn't like this book. It just felt like there was more emphasis placed on Warrick's sexual proclivities rather than the romance between him and Melanie. Now, I was happy that Melanie and Sinaa were both pregnant at the end of the book. I like that they're going to be knocked up together. Overall, Love After just didn't do it for me but, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for an update book on these characters.
Melanie found herself married to a clown, for real for real! She was done, and wanted out! After getting rid of that dead weight, she was ready to get her groove back! Meeting Warrick at her brother's wedding reception, started a fireworks display, with all the sparks that were going off! Crazy chemistry! Who is this man, she wondered? Warrick! A force by his size alone, but with those sexy wicked thoughts, he could be dangerous! He zeroed in on Melanie and wanted to claim her, with or without her permission. He had to have total control, all the time, but Melanie wasn't havin' that ish! Warrick knew he should leave her alone, but the pull was so strong. When they finally attempted to go out, and Melanie switched things up, he pulled some things out of his trick bag that had Melanie stuck! I was like awwww... hell, he gone be something else! Both Warrick and Melanie questioned themselves about what they have gotten themselves into. Melanie was so green to the BDSM scene, but was so intrigued by Warrick, she was willing to try it all. Warrick didn't think that Melanie could handle what he had to offer, but she was doing something to him, and making him feel things he never had before. When Warrick broke down and told Mel the reasons why he needed to have constant control, My. Heart. Broke! 💔 He suffered unimaginable trauma by people who were supposed to love and care for him! By this time both Warrick, and Melanie had both fallen. Two people finding love after heartbreak, betrayal, trauma and neglect! Something that they both never thought they would never find! Good read! 👍👍👍
⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 Melanie finds life after her divorce from her dead weight cheating ex-husband Gordon. She decides to move her and her daughter Naomi to Florida to be near her brother & Sister-in law (her best friend). She meets her brother’s friend and mentor a few months earlier at her brother’s wedding and runs into him again after her move to Florida and the kinky BDSM sparks fly.
We follow Melanie, who recently divorce her horrible husband and is on a journey to find herself and happiness. She meets a controlling retired football player named Warrick and sparks fly as this couple take the journey to healing and redemption. I love that the main characters are older. Melanie is 37 and Warrick is 41. The family dynamics is also a plus. They are the epitome of “It takes a Village”. Shay Davis stepped out of the box and turned things up by adding BDSM elements and I enjoyed every second of it. Warrick’s bold, domineering and direct nature should’ve annoyed me instead it intrigued me. I love his protective energy. It came off as possessive at times though. There is a kitchen scene in this book that lives rent free in my head. Sexy AF! Melanie definitely complimented Warwick. They both had strong personalities and it reared it’s ugly head numerous times in this story. This is a fast paced and engaging read. Shay didn’t hesitate to surprise us with a storyline filled with a deadbeat husband, flawed characters, drama and trauma. I really became invested in the characters and their HEA. However, with being so fast paced, I felt not enough details were given in certain situations. Also, I wanted to see so much more of Warrick and Melanie as an item. Plus, the discussion Melanie had with her daughter was far too nonchalant for my liking. I expected more parental energy( is that a thing?). Overall, I enjoyed the book and the characters journey to happiness. The teenagers as usual stole the show and came with the laughs. I would love to see Shay Davis start a Black BDSM spin off ASAP. I’m going to throw that out in the atmosphere.
I love when writers write about black folks and BDSM! Black love has many levels and this is one. Shay does an wonderful job with telling the stories is Melanie and Warrick! This book is emotional, sweet, and nasty as hell!! I loved very part of this story!
Ms. Shay Davis you got a fan for life. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!!! So damn sexy. I couldn't keep my thoughts clear because I was imagining I was the main character. Excellent ending too. Please enjoy this ride.
I haven’t read an erotic story in a while, but it was well worth the wait with this one. 4 letters - BDSM! Baby👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 there is absolutely NOTHING like a man who knows just what your body needs. And you didn’t even know you needed it until he shows you. A “p” whisperer. Whew LAWD HAMercy!!!
To date, I’ve read a couple books that described the absolute most explosive sex scenes ever - one being Bedroom Bully - and now I can add this one to the list. Warrick brought the pain in a delicious way! To be spanked so hard that you feel the heat on your ass for days is a feeling better than anything I can ever explain. Sheesh! Talk about giving me something I can feel. Sheesh 🥵! This was levels beyond steam, this is what you call getting “d’d down” and I…oop!
The friendship between Mel & Sinae was like me and my belated best friend, and we’d have those same juicy conversations while sloshing mimosas at brunch 😂
Ok let me cool down and get to the story 🥵
Actually, let me just say that I really enjoyed it, it was hard to put down and it awakened a fire inside me. I’m fighting a battle against calling my MM.
I’m going to take a cold shower. My boo @shadesandpages gave me this tantalizing recommendation and I love her for it. When I saw “BDSM” in her review, I downloaded the ebook so fast and I 👏🏾don’t 👏🏾even👏🏾read 👏🏾ebooks 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Check out her review for the deets. I 100% concur 😘
Melanie and Warrick…sweet lord💦🔥💣. The chemistry, the passion, the fire in this hot, steamy, sexy, romantic story that delves into a deeper kind of love that requires these two to release the walls they’ve built in order to open themselves to LOVE AFTER past hurt and pain. They have been through it and this story will open your mind to tantalizing 🔥 s*xual proclivities in a way that is respectful and loving between adults who may have to submit to each other, in order to gain the dominance they seek😉. It’s hot in there y’all 🥵and the need and desire to be with another so badly is deliciously captivating!!!
These characters are direct, assertive, confident, strong and determined and I love the relationships, the bond, closeness and protectiveness they have for one another and how they resolve conflicts from the teenagers to the adults, because in the end it’s family over everything else.
Shay Davis elevates to a higher level of writing in how she pens these characters to express their feelings, emotions of handling shame and feeling unworthiness while also showing how impactful the power of love can heal. Fantastic read that I will read again and again.
Ms. Davis, I immediately found this book after reading, "A Dash of Christmas Magic." I had to read more on the Longs. Malachi's story was so intriguing it was a definite to read Melanie. I will be the first to say I am not the biggest fan of BSDM but I understood how it became a part of Warrick's life. It is the controlling aspect of it that alarms me. I instantly knew that it was some underlying serious issues as to why Warrick was so into it. I also had the feeling his past was the key. His nickname, "War" fit him to a tee because he was in a constant war with himself. He finally got himself together to tell and let Melanie in fully. His childhood was horrendous and Melanie young adult life married to a cheater was no better. They both needed to know and experience real, raw, unconditional love. They were able to finally accomplish that together as a couple through all the pain.
This is a great read, you will enjoy it. It has a few speed bumps, but all parties succeed. You will enjoy the ride to the finish line. I am a sucker for happy endings so the conclusion for both couples was a win for me. I also love to see women accomplish their career goals. The fact Melanie was able to become an African American high school teacher after her nasty divorce spoke volumes. I recommend this book, download, purchase and be entertained.
Baby this book right here is everything. Omg!!!!! The visuals I had while reading this book. Ugh I want to pull up on Warrick ole dusty grandma and put a pillow over her head. 😡😡🤬Mel I love her periodt. The girls once again had me in tears. I loved this book and I really hope the attorney Vanessa get a story. I need more 😀😃😘 I loved this book. Must read
I have to keep this PG 13 for Amazon so I'm just good to say," I like how your mind works this book is one for the record". Alot of women panties are probably ruined from reading this book. They are probably looking for Dom right after they finish lol!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The second chance at love. The bond between mother and daughter. It was a great read! I loved the steamy scenes the most though. Great job 💜
This book was good. I must say that I love me some Warrick he was everything. I was happy for Melanie. She definitely deserved an happy. It was good to catch up with Malachi and Sinaa.
This story gave so much to enjoy. Sizzling chemistry, the power of letting go and allowing love and healing to find you and the kind of nasty sexy times I’ve come to enjoy from Shay. Loved War and Mel getting their happy ending along with their spicy happy endings LOL
This was so good! I loved each of this couple and how the author fully developed their characters. Warrick was so Alpha and a patient Dom! I enjoyed how Melanie came into her own, her strength was impressive.
If you know me then you know I rock with Shay Davis Hard and… I have been waiting on Melanie’s story since meeting her in A Dash of Christmas Magic. Her story was tragically beautiful before but reading it from her point of view made it even better. This book gave me chills every time Warrick and Melanie interacted.
Warrick looked like the type of man that could pick me up and fuck me right on whatever surface he deemed formidable.
Let’s start this off with Warrick Jones and the fact that he has officially made my book bae list! Everything good and bad about this man captured my attention. The dark, sexy and formidable aura surrounding this man had all my senses on high alert.
Because Melanie was mine.
It only took one dance, or a night of dancing rather, to confirm that fact.
See?? Just everything! I loved him for Melanie. She needed a safe place to land after dealing with years of garbage and Warrick gave her that and more. This story had so many angles while still flowing perfectly. I always say Shay has a way of creating relatable characters well these characters were given so much more!
“So eager.”
“Warrick, stop playing with me. You know why I’m here. And it ain’t to claim a drawer and leave a toothbrush on your bathroom counter.”
The way his smile spread across his face, showcasing those perfect white teeth, against the dark fullness of his beard… pussy gone! That thang done jumped from between my legs, directly into Warrick’s possession.
I have to say Melanie was the most layered female Shay has written in my opinion. Her inner thoughts and her movements were justified due to her past whereas some other female characters basically found things to stress about. Warrick made my top three of Shay’s male characters because while his upbringing made his actions understandable he still found a balance to not take away the growth and security she needed after her devastating marriage
Melanie sniffled.
“Hey! Don’t do that. Don’t cry, Mel.”
“They’re happy tears. I never thought I would find love after years of settling for the bare minimum. Never thought love after heartbreak and failure could feel this good… so full.
Thank you for not giving up on me.”
Love prevails yet again! This book gave us comedy, romance, growth, acceptance and freedom and I was here for all of it. I patiently waited for Melanie’s book and now I have no idea what to do with myself now that she has her happily ever after lol! I can’t wait to see who’s up next!
While I don't care for BDSM, I enjoyed this story. It wasn't too heavy on the BDSM aspect, yet more on the Dom/Sub relationship and it was informational.
Melanie seemed to be super sweet and didn't deserve what her ex-husband, Gordon, did to her. He was a low life for sure. Just pathetic. I loved the relationship she had with her daughter and niece. The relationship with her brother, albeit a bit tense, was one to admire as well. I absolutely loved her relationship with her sister-in-law, despite their daughters being sisters; that whole situation had my jaw hitting the floor🤨😯😳. I like how she didn't give into Warrick right away. She was a no nonsense woman and I couldn't get enough of it.
Warrick was a pure alpha male in every sense of the word. Although he was a Dom, he was a successful ex-nfl player with a career that kept him in the spotlight. His Dom life was one he held very close to himself and not many knew about it. I was floored when his reasoning for needing to be in control was revealed. Some people aren't worth a darn; just despicable 😠. I like how persistent Warrick was with Melanie. I didn't quite like how he pushed the boundaries with her at times, yet she always put him back in line😏. Once she truly gave herself to him, she healed him in ways he didn't know he needed and I loved it.
I didn't know how I was going to perceive this book or if I'd like it at all, yet overall I did. Not a book I'll be revisiting, yet a good book nonetheless.
Melanie has taken her ex-husband to the bank and is now moving on with her life. Here enters retired football player Warrick aka Master Dom. These two instantly hit it off and I enjoyed reading about their exploration of each other. Harder topics were discussed like being a parent to teens, child abuse and divorce.
Melanie pissed me off using her safe word. Girl grow up. He didn’t even do anything to you. The BDSM was super light and I wish the two would’ve explored way more since he said what they did didn’t even scratch the surface. Although the dom/sub relationship can be different with each person, these two didn’t really have that type of relationship outside of the bedroom even though it was talked about a lot. I felt in sone ways War loosened his control versus Mel embracing the lifestyle. Compromise I guess.
Nobody wants to start over but newness and freshness is needed sometime. Melanie couldn't believe she was the victim of a serial deadbeat until she actually sat down and thought about it. Not to be wrapped up in a pity party, Warrick was very refreshing to her new beginnings. Malachi couldn't stand by and watch his sister get hurt all over again but actually added to her pain. He have been overwhelmed since his youth to be Melanie's protector. But, as the saying goes experience can be the best teacher and the teacher was taught a valuable lesson. The pain and struggle of starting over won't last forever. Good Read!
I really enjoyed this sexy and healthy intro into Melanie and Warrick's love life! I'm so glad Mel dropped Gordon and moved on with her life! She deserved everything that Warrick offered and he needed the love that she offered. I think Malachi was doing too much and was way too invested in his sister's personal life... I'm glad she got that somewhat in check. This is the 4th book I've read by this author and she continues giving pure life to each page written. Y'all better read this book!
As this author's catalog continues to grow, the level of storytelling continues to get better and better. And I gotta say, this one has outdone all the others! Melanie and Warrick were both very complex and layered characters. But peeling back those layers provided the answers to a lot of questions that explained what made them both who they were. Add in the supporting characters, and humor sprinkled throughout, and the recipe was a balance of heavy subject matter and lighthearted fun! Kudos Shay on a job well done!
Yessss Boo you've done it again. He'll I need me a Warrick you know he's book bae. Anyway Khi needs to let sis live and stop trying to dictate her life while he's happily in love with Sinaa. Naomi needs to stay in a child's place I think she has father abandonment issue and looking for a males love so that why she out having sex . I'm happy Melaine followed her heart and allowed Warrick to love her. This was a great read.
Warrick and Melanie…be still my heart! I just love them so much. Both are emotional depleted and in need of someone loving and truly caring about them. So glad they found that in each other.
I enjoyed reading Love After, especially after reading Malachi and Sinaa’s story. Melanie was due for a hea after having put up with her trifling, cheating ex for so many years. Warrick’s past did play a role in his proclivities, but in the end his love for Melanie soothed the beast inside of him.
