Der Fund gefiel mir besser als erwartet. Hatte schon befürchtet, es wäre ein Fehlkauf und habe mich lange Zeit nicht rangetraut. Hard Science Fiction ist mir oft zu trocken, zu steril, zu wenig auf Charaktere und Emotionen fokussiert. Das Worldbuilding - die Zukunftsszenarien, die Cliff Allister hier aufzeigt - waren damals mein Grund zum Kauf und auch beim Lesen ein absolutes Highlight des Buches.
Ja, der Schreibstil ist nichts besonderes, aber die Ideen sind interessant und mir gefällt, wie hier Erden-Politik und Raumfahrt in der Handlung verwoben werden. Zur Halbzeit gibt es eine spannende Entwicklung, die aber - zumindest in diesem Teil der Reihe - zu kurz kommt. Für die Art von Buch bemüht sich der Autor dann doch, Charaktertiefe und Emotionen einzubringen, dafür ist das Buch aber meiner Meinung nach zu kurz und nicht nah genug an den Figuren. Insgesamt für mich 3 Sterne: interessante Ideen und Grundhandlung, aber nicht so ganz meins in der Ausführung.

Eins meiner ersten Sci-Fi Bücher.
ich mochte die zwei verschiedenen Plot-Lines und die grundsätzliche Idee, dass die Erde annektiert wird. Ich werde die Reihe sicher weiter verfolgen.q

Ein schöner Reihenauftakt. Für mich stellenweise viele Begriffe, die ich erstmal kennenlernen musste, da ich noch nicht viel SciFi gelesen habe.
Man findet ein Raumschiff und anstatt es gemeinsam zu erforschen, sabotieren die Wissenschaftler der verschiedenen Nationen der Welt einander, um für ihr Land einen Vorteil herauszuschlagen..
Dass so viele unserer bekannten, gesellschaftlichen Marotten aufgezeigt werden, fand ich mega gut.
Die fiesen Spitzen gegen die USA und Trump brachten mich zum Schmunzeln.
Die Protagonisten fand ich alle interessant, auch wenn man sie im ersten Band noch nicht so gut kennenlernt. Das Buch hat eben auch nur 322 Seiten.
Joy ist trotzdem schon großer Sympathieträger!
Ich fand es auch sehr erfrischend, dass die "Aliens" nicht als das "Böse aus dem All" abgestempelt werden, wie es sonst häufig der Fall ist.
Das Buch hat mich gut unterhalten. Ich bin noch nicht so ganz Feuer und Flamme, aber ich denke, dass Band 1 auch nur an der Oberfläche gekratzt hat und es im weiteren Verlauf bestimmt noch sehr heiß hergehen wird.
Ich bleibe auf jeden Fall dran und halte euch up to date.

Loved the idea, don't like the execution whatsoever - not plot wise, nor character wise.

Four star rating is still pretty good. However, the story wasn't quite there to give this story a five star rating. If I have to give an example, here is one. Nobody has to agree with it. The Golden Nova is a supremely advanced spaceship, yet some of it's capabilities seemed off for reasons only the author can give. Yes some the systems were dubbed down by whomever when the ship was buried on the moon. Okay I won't drawl on. I find it hard to accept a ship so advanced was incapable of rendering an image from within the solar system to earth. To view the ship's surrounding the earth. I mean, jeez, if the star ship enterprise can see something billions of miles away, why couldn't this advanced craft do the same. There were a couple of other oddities as well.
However, the book was an exciting read, and hey ho, I do recommend you read it. I am looking forward to the next book.

Easy read hard to put down
Well written book, will well developed character's. I read this book from start to finish in a single sitting. You will not regret thus book for one minute.

Solid but rather dull.
The book is readable but nothing to write home about as it brings nothing new. It would have been better to use the story of this book as a short introduction into the main plot instead of blowing it up into a book. The reader would not have missed much.

You know how many SciFi and Fantasy novels are always like "Boo, Humans!"?
This is the opposite of that.
Everything about this entire series from beginning to end is like "Yay, Humans!".
It is one unending love letter to the limitless potential of mankind.
Rivals Becky Chambers best works as some of the most uplifting Science Fiction I have ever read.
