Steve Peterson was a zero. At least his wife, his students, and his community thought so. But when he dies to save the life of a stranger, Steve is sent to an afterlife reserved for the truly heroic: Valhalla.
But the Norse realm of the dead isn’t anything like he expected. Valhalla is a school, the Gods are teachers, and Steve’s fellow students are his competition in the great games.
Then there are the women...Ila, the beautiful but stoic warrior. Molly, the cutie with her heart on her sleeve. Idun, the blonde Goddess bombshell with a soft spot for poetry. And Twyla, the dwarven bartender who’s always brewing up a sexy good time.
Now, Steve must find where he belongs. But in a place where everyone is a hero, he’ll learn that his greatest fight is with himself.
Join Steve in a HaremLit adventure filled with romance, sexy goddesses, self-doubt, creative uses of a dorm’s common shower, exploding houses, copious amounts of food and beer, dresses that get wet or come off very easily, and plenty of sexy times.
Afterlives Valhalla is rated R for adult themes, graphic violence, undefined relationships/harem, and explicit scenes. Reader discretion is advised.
This book falls into the category of good idea but poor execution. The MC is 40 something with a loveless marriage and no real prospects in life. He never graduated high school and works as a PE teacher and girls basketball coach. He saves a woman who was being robbed and was killed. Because of this noble act he was accepted into valhalla which turns out to be more of a school than anything else. The gods in the pantheon are more like teachers. There are 2 types of heroes that end up in Valhalla, those that spend their life in battle and then those that lead an ordinary life but did one truly heroic thing. That's a good setup and I was excited for the first 1/3 of the book. Then things didn't really fit in my mind Overall I give it a Meh.
Much better then expected. Looking forward to next book.
I am not usually a fan of books that are lite on word count. Never enough time to properly get to know the characters and setting. This book does an amazing job pulling you in and making you like the MC and side characters. As far as plot goesx it is a bit light on that affair till the end leaving a cliff hanger.
Wow! I found this book by chance and decided to give it a shot. I was not disappointed. The writing is great, I did not notice any issues, which is saying something for the genre and first book. I really enjoyed the story. The MC is no Chad. He is a flawed hero, with his own issues and insecurities, with some of the story about overcoming those flaws.
The characters are well written. They have good depth and character. The relationships build well. Although the main relationship builds a little fast it is far from the annoying “Meet girl, have instant sex” of some other books in the genre. The other relationships build slower and are satisfying.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and by the 90% point I kept looking at the amount left with sadness, because I didn’t want it to end. I look forward to more!
Better than I expected, and a quick read. A lot more examination of emotional states than in many books of this genre, to the extent that I thought for a time that a woman had written it. This doesn't mean it was inferior or bad, just that the style was akin to many things I've seen written by women.
A decent diversion and the characters are interesting enough that I'll give book 2 a chance should it come along.
This isekai-fantasy (life after death) pass the afterlife in Valhalla, that more than a Heaven for worthy warriors seems like a hypersexual playboy mansion college retreat for ex physical education instructors/janitors, like the main character, Steve. There are only two moments in action, where the main character dies in the beginning and then the Battle Royale at the Gladiator Arena, then the rest is a honeymoon rendition of sexual liaisons by Steve and his roommate, and wining and dining by some of the rest of the characters created by the author. It is a short light novel series, so short that it only covers one event and at the very end starts with a capture the flag moment. Steve apparently was a nice guy, underachiever, that got into the Heroic Heaven, where it is all competition, sexual liaisons and the best of buffet foods. This light novel is so shallow, it's mainly about sex and how every woman encountered by the main character, Steve, is a total knock-out gorgeous woman (whether they were women in their past lives or gender-changed). This story had potential before all the sex and adult situations. With all the sex, it just makes the readers lose all of their emotional intelligence.
This book is a slightly different take on the "guy with a lame past doing a single good deed that also results in his death." He wakes up n a sad version of Valhalla Bros-Ville. It has a strong "Revenge of the Nerds" to it. His roommate is a warrior woman from another culture, and they quickly form a bond.
The plot is pretty good. The MC, due to his past life, has some confidence issues that will test those readers who insist on the hero being the OP Alpha Male with every atom of their being. He also has his moments of standing up to those who should or would have intimidated him. It's an interesting balance, but the hesitant version is a bit of a downer.
There are intimate scenes that do not Fade To Black. The buildup and foreplay is well done, while the actual descriptions of the acts are a bit underwhelming.
The book ends abruptly with sort of a cliffhanger, which is not a good thing, in my opinion. It leaves this book with a sense of being incomplete, as I was certainly caught off guard by it ending all of a sudden.
Fantasy harem adult situations Steve is trying to do his best in a miserable life. Circumstances place him where he has no choice but to act to protect another. The only faux pas was much later, having Steve reference a famous singer and celebrity who was born long after the other man had died and expected the other to get it. The other character, Harold, probably got the gist, but not its real meaning. Interesting take on the nature of the afterlife, too.
There is a lot of potential here, and I sincerely hope the series continues; if it doesn't, I shall be disappointed. Editing for errors was better than average. Recommended.
For being a new author( at least to me ) this was on it’s way to being a five until I got to the cliffhanger ending. Thought that the book could have spent more time on their training and the inner workings of Valhalla itself, at least for the new people. I think that of all the books that I have read on Kindle that this one had the fewest errors for grammar and spelling. Will eagerly look forward to the next installment .
This story and it's characters have me hooked. I enjoyed everything about this version of Valhalla and how things are progressing. Fun little twist with the afterlife being nonlinear. Plot is not unique but there are a lot of little things that keep it entertaining. Looking forward to the next episode.
Stumbled on this book and thought the premise sounded interesting. And I was right. This book is awesome. Starts off slow so you can get to know the MC. And honestly, he’s easily forgetful to start. But as you keep reading you not only get to know him better you get to genuinely like him. Borrowed this book but liked it so much am buying it.
Amazing story with real characters you have to get attached to!
The characters are real people with real shortcomings to overcome who draw you into the reality behind the fantasy. If you have ever felt selfdoubt or fear at a new beginning, you have to read this story. And let's face it, all us nerds have at least once.
I yearn for stories like this. Multifaceted MC with fears, flaws and struggles. Well defined supporting cast, but could use a bit more diversity. This isn't the story of an OPMC, the MC is the every man, written is away that anyone can slip into his shoes and experience the story through his eyes.
Steve, Ila & friends are an amazing group of intelligent, talented people that I would die to have as my very own. The intuition flames throughout the pages as they partner in love and competition. MORE, MORE, MORE. “Please sir, may I have more?” to copy Mr Dickens. Brava, Bravo, Bravi !!!
This book was all too short! MC is an ordinary Joe, who does one extraordinary thing. The ramifications of this action are what drives the story. Looking forward to the next book!
What an amazing book. Steve the main character is the correct combination of smart, needy, and tough that makes him fun to read about. His group of gals are awesome and the story is great! What a unique take on Norse lore!!!
Exceeded expectations. Love the Norse theme. Can really sympathize with some of Steve’s issues. Wished it was longer. I can’t wait for the sequel, which I hope comes out soon.
This was really good. The highest praise I can give is that if I didn't know better, I might have thought the author's name was Schinhofen, one of my favorites. I hope book two comes soon.
Nice 😉 story. An ADULT novel. However it is well written and reads well. Thanks to kindle unlimited I get to read a lot of books and this is on of the good ones.
Norse myths with a modern twist. The newish becomes a hero and dies. Finds himself in Valhalla with gods playing games with peoples lives and appears to be throwing sand in their gears, and harem elements appear ing.
Its a decent book. But its been 2 or so years since release. And the Author seems to have fallen off the planet. So.. Sigh. Another series that won't ever be finished sadly. Wish i had realized that before reading this.
