Tricks in the Night is a sweet & steamy short story with a curvy heroine and a strong hero. It is eighth in the Hot Halloween Nights series.
There are few things in this world that really freak me out, but zombies is one of them. I know, I know, they’re not real! But it doesn’t stop the whole, what if scenario from rolling around in my head. I mean, what if the zombie apocalypse actually happened?
That’s why, when I’m invited to an exclusive party in a creepy castle for Halloween, I end up losing my ever-loving mind. Because it’s not just any old Halloween party I’m invited to, it’s a Zombie-themed party—a trick played on me by comedian of a brother. Yeah...not funny.
Desperate to get out there, I do the only thing I can think to do in that situation, I hyperventilate and cry. Normally, this would be hideously embarrassing, but when fellow zombie hater, Devlon Cross, comes to my aid, it might just turn out to be the best Halloween party yet...

Atleast she thankful she has a handsome guy there saving her. Devlon is there because he dislikes Halloween but his friend said it was a cool Halloween party now hes saving a Elvira gal and falling hard for her. But he does take a step back because that's his friends sister.
Sexual tension and some misunderstanding happen but it works out for them.
No ow/om drama, no cheating, Slight secondary charas, sexy times, virgin gal and no manwhore
I like that this was an easy read that was scary, fun, sweet, hot, and over-the-top. Lila's brother, Luke, thinks the prank he pulled was funny and it was. To him. Neither Devlon nor Lila shared in his humor. The upside are the relationships forged. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
-no cheating -no ow/om drama -virgin heroine/ no talk of H past but not a virgin -no violence -some steam towards the end -good epilogues several months and 10 years later

Lila is breaking tradition with her best friend in her last year at university, since they started Halloween is a night they always go out together, but when he brother asks her to go to a party with him she agrees especially after all he’s sacrificed for her. So when she arrives at the house he sent her she’s unprepared for what happens when she walks through the door. Her worst fear is a Zombie apocalypse and that’s where she is trapped. She knows that it’s not real but her terror is very real so when she’s rescued by a man she’s never met before she is torn between her fear and her rescuer. From the first touch of his hand she’s caught in his trap and they escape together. It’s not until she discovers that he is her brothers friend and the night was a planned trick does she think that her brother set up way more than the zombie scare. Has everything she shared with Devlon really a practical joke?
Devlon wasn’t impressed to find himself meeting his best friend Luke at a haunted house, especially as this was meant to be a party and the house is in darkness. But once he walks through the door he realises he has been set up. Zombies are everywhere and if there is one thing he fears and hates it’s zombies. Manning up he makes his way through, but when he hears a woman scream he knows he needs to go back. He is struck dumb after his first glance and the more time they spend together the more he falls under her spell. Can he show her that there is no trick to falling in love and win the girl of his dreams?
Short, sweet, funny and sexy read. Flows easily with the two main characters and watching them on their journey to love will leave you with a smile. 4* read.
Plot: Lila hates zombies. Absolutely hates them. So of course her brother has decided to prank her with zombies on Halloween. She's not the only one he has set up though; he's conned his friend Devlon into being there as well, and as luck would have it, he's chivalrous enough to rescue Lila when she finds her in the midst of the zombies.
Commentary: Cute premise. I absolutely hate haunted houses and there's nothing short of my child being in danger that could make me go in one. I have to commend Devlon (weird spelling) for going in there to get Lila. I don't blame Lila for misunderstanding the extent of the prank, but with a little aggressive wooing from Devlon, they finally got their HEA.
I am absolutely in love with this story. I never experienced Halloween growing up in Australia, but we always heard about the fun that kids had. But this is awesome to experience it as an adult. I loved how Devlin and Lila met, horrible for them, but absolutely hilarious that Luke orchestrated his best friend and his sister in meeting. I love a happy ending and there certainly is one in this book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

This may have been a short story by a new-to-me author, but it absolutely had all the details and feels of a longer read. I loved the connection between Dev and Lila. He came to her rescue in a zombie room and they never looked back - until they did ;) Insecurity reared it's head for Lila and her bro needed a smack upside the head but love abounded, despite these challenges. It was great fun, had me on the edge of my seat and also fanning myself over the heat between them. I'm looking forward to more by this author.
Lila and Devlon are brought together at the start of the story in a Haunted Zombie House. Lilia and her brother are graduating from college the same year, even though he is older than her. He took time off to take care of their sick mother so Lila would not have to miss any of her college experience. During Luke's time at the college, he befriends Devlon, who he figures out would be the perfect guy for his little sister. So in their senior year, Halloween, Luke talks both of them into going to a party with him. Neither of them having met before say yes. Luke has each of them meet him there separately so they don't know the other is there and have not met before this is a perfect setup as far as Luke thinks. Devlon gets there first and goes in and is not happy with this situation. Lila gets there next and goes in. Lila is deathly afraid of Zombies and starts to scream and cry. Devlon hearing this comes to Lilas rescue. As soon as they get out of the house, they learn that Luke set this up the whole time. Devlon and Lila bond over the hate of Zombies and being scared on Halloween. Both spend time together and get to know each other over the night. Luke did this clearly out of selfishness so he could get to know Lila's best friend Beth, who he has liked for years. Lila assumes the worse and gets mad at Devlon thinking it was a joke being he is a hot, tall, muscular man. All the girls fawn over Devlon for his looks. And Lila is not a small girl she is on the bigger side. So that happening makes things hard for Lila. This is a great love story with a bit of drama. Want to know if Lila forgives and moves on with Devlon or Luke and Beth make it as a couple. Then grab this book and read on the rest of it.

Romance trope: Series: Hot Halloween Nights Length: 73 pages
Plot: Lila hates zombies. She absolutely terrified of them. So when her brother tricks her into going to a Halloween party that is really a haunted house, she needs to be rescued, stat! Enter Devlon, who is a fellow zombie-hater. He's there because Lila's brother, his friend, invited him. He's there when Lila needs him but now she has to wonder if he's with her because he likes her or because he's doing her brother a favor.
Commentary: I don't know that I care about zombies either way, but I absolutely hate haunted houses. You could not pay me to go through one. Not entirely sure Halloween is really my thing. I definitely understand Lila's feelings. This was a sweet story with a couple of very normal people - it felt like a very attainable happy ending!
Lila and her older brother Luke are in their senior year of college. Luke took some time off to look after their sick mother so Lila could continue with school. Lila is very grateful for her brother's sacrifice so when he asks her a favor she feels obligated to do it. He wants her to go to a Halloween party with him. Lila agrees but then her brothers says she should meet him there. Entering the party/haunted house, she finds her self surrounded by zombies. Lila is very freaked out by Zombies and panics. Another guy in the room makes his way over to her and helps rescues her.
Devlon is Luke's best friend. When he asks Devlon to come to a Halloween party Devlon is reluctant but goes. Devlon hates anything to do with horror. So when he enters the party, he finds himself terrified. He is struggling to get out when he hears a woman's terrified voice. After being freed from the zombies the two figure out they have been tricked by Luke but they aren't sorry that they have finally met.

Megan Wade's contribution to the multi-author Hot Halloween Nights series is absolutely awesome. A Halloween twist on the brother's best friend/best friend's little sister trope, this is a fun, entertaining, quick and steamy, and romantic novella. Luke invites both his sister Lila and best friend Devlon to a Haunted House on Halloween night for a party. Only, there is no party, but rather a haunted house full of zombies - exactly what both Lila and Devlon are terrified of. Not realizing who the other is, Devlon rescues Lila when she freaks out inside, dragging her out of the house - and once they finally have the opportunity to really lay eyes on one another, the magic of Halloween instalove takes over.
Everything Megan Wade writes is pure gold, and this Halloween treat is no exception. Wonderful characters, excellent writing and a really fun story make this a must-read for the Halloween season.

Completely and utterly taken captive by this story! It was Do you ever pick up a book knowing exactly what you’re going to read? You think, “This is going to be a (curvy girl and hunk of a guy)” and then you start reading and realize you were one hundred percent, right? The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with! I enjoyed reading this insta-love with a Halloween twist. Lila is talked into attending a party by her brother but when she gets there of course he isn’t there, she goes in to wait for him only to realize her fear for the undead it kicked up a notch because it is a room full of zombies. In walks in the hulk of a man Devlon to the rescue he was also, talked into going to the same said party by his best friend but then he meets/rescues Lila. But things are not as they seem you see Lila thinks her brother paid him to talk/date her putting in a position of having to prove he really do like her so will this end of being a trick or treat?
Lila's brother begs her to come along to a Halloween 🎃 party and she can't resist. He's done alot for her. Luke sends her message he is setting up, her name is with the bouncer. She'd have to go in alone. Devlon's best friend Luke invites him to the Haunted house but looks like noone is there. He's do annoyed but Luke convinces him to go in. He does do, only for the door to lock behind him. Hands grab him and he hears a scream. Going through the throng of zombies he finds her. They both come to the realisation they have been set up...and by the same person.....Luke!!!
I loved this story ❤️❤️ i loved how the relationship between them develops quickly; there is angst because Lila believes noone would be interested in her. Lila's brother is setting her up but only because of his own unrequited love. The characters are likeable and relatable with interesting backstories that hooks a reader into their relationship. The story is told from dual POVs and reveals the thoughts feelings and emotions as they explore their relationship. There's an epilogue and a HEA 💓
I had trouble writing this review because I do not want to give away too much of the story. Lila is a little sheltered but overall looking for her HEA but she never imagined she would find it in her worst nightmare. Devlon is wanting to spend some time with his best friend when he is tricked into facing his worst fears. When he hears someone who needs help his knight complex kicks in and he turns into the rescuer his personality makes him. The story follows their night of adventure and overall the instant chemistry that is found between them. There are ulterior motives, misunderstandings, and romance and the story is steamy but overall I wish there is a little more to their relationship. (I always wish that though.) This is a HEA, standalone in this series and does not need to be read with any other stories in this series to make sense.

Lila is spending this Halloween with her brother Luke, this year then her best friend Beth, when he asked her to go to a party with him and he only had one extra ticket. Once she arrived her brother text her and told her to go in and he would see her inside. At the same time Devlon has been waiting out side this Haunted castle for an hour and still Luke is no show. Luke convinced him to go to this party with him and he's late. Finally getting a text from Luke saying go in he will be there in 15 minutes. But what both Lila and Devlon find is a room full of grabby zombies pawing and pushing them into the room, until Devlon hears a woman scream and goes to her rescue and they both try to head to the exit. It looks like Luke set Devlon and Lila up because Lilia hates zombies and Devlon hates horror movies, but little did Luke know was he set them up to be a couple. I am volunteering to leave a review for a ARC of this book.
"Tricks in the Night" is a wonderfully sweet Halloween romance! Needless to say it really got me into the Halloween spirit! It is spooky, hilarious and serious when it needs to be. Also, it has (fake) zombies ,which is a plus for me! It is not as steamy as Wade's other books as it focuses more on the romance. As I mostly enjoy the romance in Megan Wade's books ,because I think she does them very well, this book felt like a gift! It seems this one was proofread a lot as I found no typos throughout my reading and the writing/story was overall great. I loved Devlon and Lila. They are truly perfect for each other and their connection felt real. Their epilogues were so adorable. Also ,Luke and Beth were very entertaining side characters to read about. (Luke is such a big prankster though) Totally worth it!
First things first; I really like the cover of this book! Tricks in the night is the eighth book in the ‘’hot Halloween nights’’ series. This story is short, fast paced and an enjoyable read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the storyline enjoyable. When Lila makes a promise to spend Halloween with her big brother, she doesn’t expect the outcome. Devlon isn’t happy with Luke due to his prank but because of that, he got to meet Lila. The chemistry between Devlon and Lila is clear to see and I liked them together. I liked what Luke did for Lila but he did go about it the wrong way. I really liked the ending and the epilogue for this story. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read.
I cannot get enough books from this amazing author. I have fallen in love with each book that she has written and I wait anxiously till the next one come out. This book is about Lila and Devlon and their hate for halloween or anything scary. They both get invited to this ‘party’ by Luke - her brother, his best friend but it turns out to be a haunted house filled with scary zombies. They meet and the connection between the two is instant and the love just pours out to the book. I hated that she thought Luke paid Devlon to date her and how heartbroken and torn she felt but I’m so glad they were able to see past that and find their true love with each other. Definitely a book I will recommend to other readers!

Lila is supposed to meet her brother at a party but when she gets there he isn't there but tells her to go on in. When she does she learns that he has tricked her and she is surrounded by zombies which she hates. She hears someone else calling out and Delvin shows up. Delvin is a friend of her brother and hates horror movies so he is being pranked as well. They get out and end up at another party where her brother shows up and Lila invites her friend to join. However when things heat up between her and Delvin she worries that its another of her brother's tricks and leaves. Can Delvin prove to her that he really wants her?
This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Devlon is going to kill his friend Luke! He knows how much he hates horror movies and yet he ends up in a haunted house. He is upset until he sees a beautiful curvy young woman and helps her out of there! He knows immediately that she is his, but what happens when he finds out she’s his friends sister Lila! Can they find their happily ever after? Will her brother stand in their way? Great book that I would highly recommend!

I really liked this Halloween story. It was short, entertaining, and enjoyable except for the party part. The characters were likable and relatable for the most part. Lila and Devlon both were way more forgiving of Luke than I would have been. Luke and Lila are brother and sister. Luke is best friends with Devlon. Luke invites both of them to a Halloween party where Devlon saves Lila. Lila and Devlon have a lot in common and things go much better after they go to another party. The interactions between Lila and Devlon were interesting and fun until they have a misunderstanding. Once that is cleared up they get a wonderful happy ever after. I recommend reading this book.

Cute little story about zombies and haunted houses that go bump in the night and feel good things you can wrap your arms around hug and touch and kiss. Lila was being pranked by her brother Luke on Halloween. Devlon was being pranked by his best friend Luke on Halloween. Luke thinks Lila and Devlon would be good for each other. They both dislike scary things - zombies, spooky dark houses. So first he scares them and then they find each other and they help each other get out of the castle. Next they spend Halloween together “Trick and Treating” on campus. It is a light-hearted read. A little bit of love along the way. Happy Halloweening!

This book 8 in the Hot Halloween Nights Book Series is by Megan Wade and it part of a Hot Halloween Nights Series by a variety of authors. It is a well-written short insta-love romance with an alpha man and curvy, shy woman. These characters are well-developed for a short story and you fall in love with them. The chemistry is instant with these two and the story flows smoothly and is great sweet story. A Must Read HEA with no cliffhangers. They are brought together at the start of the story in a Haunted Zombie House. He hates all things horror and he rescues her from this horror. Is this a start of a wonderful relationship?

Tricks in the Night by Megan Wade is the eighth book in the multi-author Hot Halloween Nights series. This is a cute Halloween themed romance story about Lila Pierce and Devlon Cross. When both Lila and Devlon are tricked to go inside a Zombie Haunted House on Halloween night things get spooky, scary, hair raising and also romantic between them. But there are other things to be fought before they have their perfect HEA together.
I did read this after Halloween but I still really enjoyed the theme. It is a fun and lively story with great characters and some very interesting situations. If I was Lila I would kick my brother's butt, even though it brought her and Devlon together.
This is a sexy quick read. Devon and Lila meet unexpectable at a haunted house that Lilas brother Luke sent them to knowing they both hate haunted houses. Devon and Lila hit it off right away but run into issues when Lila thinks Luke set her up with Devon because she can not get a date. Misunderstandings aside I think Lila forgave Luke way too easy, But it is a fast sexy read and I enjoyed it. It is classic Megan and she always has fun and great sex. But I would have liked Luke to get his comeuppance from Devon and Lila because I think they let him off way too easy. Other than that fun sexy read.
