As someone whose favorite poetry era is romanticism, this was perfect. It flowed so well between the ecstasy and agonies of love, with beautiful portrayals. Learned some new poets too!
An okay little collection, with nothing very modern in it, even considering it was published in 1980. Most of the good ones were already familiar to me. My favorite new one happened to be the one Suryani first turned to and pointed out, which was “Song,” by Charles Sydney, about whom I can find no more information (this book doesn’t even give the dates of the poems or authors).
This was a gift, a compilation of many classic and well known love poems. Mine is hard bound with a red velvet cover. Who doesn’t live reading the beautifully crafted words of the greatest English poets?
