Speaking Evil

Rate this book
Words can manipulate minds and mobilize armies. They have the power to unite and to destroy.

No one understands this better than Carter Wainwright, a cult leader who murdered Detective Samantha Reilly’s partner ten years ago then vanished. Wainwright has resurfaced in Fall River, and his influence is stronger than ever. The charismatic psychopath has never had a problem attracting fanatics to his sadistic causes, but now even the most unlikely are falling victim to his voice.
After an attack at a psychiatric care facility where friends of her foster son, Michael, reside, Sam begins investigating the hospital and its mysterious new doctor. The clock ticks down as her investigations intensify.

The stakes have never been higher as she tracks down the most dangerous foe she’s ever faced, not knowing who she can trust. But can she hunt a killer and keep Michael and his friends safe while a killer hunts them all?

In his head, Jason Parent lives in many places, but in the real world, he calls New England his home. The region offers an abundance of settings for his writing and many wonderful places in which to write them. He currently resides in Southeastern Massachusetts with his cuddly corgi named Calypso.

In a prior life, Jason spent most of his time in front of a judge . . . as a civil litigator. When he finally tired of Latin phrases no one knew how to pronounce and explaining to people that real lawsuits are not started, tried and finalized within the 60-minute timeframe they see on TV (it's harassing the witness; no one throws vicious woodland creatures at them), he traded in his cheap suits for flip flops and designer stubble. The flops got repossessed the next day, and he's back in the legal field . . . sorta. But that's another story.

When he's not working, Jason likes to kayak, catch a movie, travel any place that will let him enter, and play just about any sport (except that ball tied to the pole thing where you basically just whack the ball until it twists into a knot or takes somebody's head off - he misses the appeal). And read and write, of course. He does that too sometimes.

I have been a fan of Jason Parent's books since his first book What Hides Within was published. Since then I I watch him continue to hone his skills. This was definitely shown in his new book Speaking Evil. It is the third book in the Evil Cycle series. This book picks up shortly after the events at the end of the second book , Hearing Evil. In Speaking Evil, Detective Samantha Reilly must face her greatest and the most evil monster ever, Carter Wainwright….The man who killed her partner. And now he has his eye set on Sam and her foster son Michael (the young boy from Seeing Evil, who can see other people fates by touching them). With the help of the FBI, Sam must do everything in her power to protect Michael and bring this mad man’s reign of terror to an end permanently! Jason has written a fast past story that that twists and turns I didn’t see coming and kept me guessing through the whole book. Speaking Evil is the crown jewel in an amazing trilogy. Throughout Jason’s writing has never let me down. I have never felt that he sits in one surgery, he continues to branch out and challenge himself and his readers. Whether he is writing Sci fi horror like People of the Sun or The Apocalypse Strain or 80 vibes b movie books like They Feed or straight up crazy ass psychological thriller like a Life Removed, The Evil Cycle and White Trash and Dirty Dingoes, he never disappoints. I highly recommend this book and can not wait for what ever Jason writes next!

This was a great read. I love this series and would love to see it made into a movie. I would recommend this book and the first two in the series. They keep your attention from start to finish and never end the way you think.

This man writes like his hand is on fire and he’s trying to put the flames out. I want no I need to read more. There is no other writer like Jason Parent. The more he writes the more I fall under the spell of Evil. And you will to. Don’t take my word for it, read him yourself.
