When Alan gets asked to be best man there are only two problems: he has a morbid fear of public speaking and has been in love with the bride to be since uni...
A hilarious everyday tale of life, love and lobsters.
The Second Best Man is being sold in aid of charity and I'm donating all the royalties I receive from the sale of it to Comic Relief (currently around £1.20 per book on Amazon or £3.30 from Lulu). Over the book's life I'm hoping to raise £1million for them so please buy a copy!
Readers have said:
"I have just finished The Second Best Man and loved it! It made me laugh and laugh and laugh! I want to start reading it all over again. A brilliant book to warm the cockles and keep you away from depression on cold and grey Autunm nights." and
"I devoured it within 24 hours. Perfectly paced. Made me laugh out loud as well as cry."

This book kind of confused me. On one hand it is quite funny and having royalties being sent for comic relief is awesome. But I also found it a little troubling.
The book is about two guys one getting married the other pinning over his friends future wife. Yes, there are some funny moments but there are also some moments that make you pause for thought.
Maybe this was not the book for me because I found it a little annoying especially when women were concerned. I'm not a far out there feminist but I do have boundaries and I felt this book teetered on the edges at times.
Alan is a perpetual bachelor who is still hung up on his college love and best friend, Nicky. The problem is that his best friend from childhood, Hardeep, is set to marry Nicky in a few weeks time. Will Alan risk everything to express his feelings and possibly derail the wedding.
While this story is focused on love, it’s also a story about overcoming fears and doing uncomfortable things. Sounds mushy, right? It’s not. Nathan manages to take us on a laugh out loud ride of love and perseverance.
I started this book and finished it in one sitting, and that’s a rarity for me. I was hooked in from the first page and read until 1am. Nathan has a knack for writing that makes the story just flow so well. However, while the story writing was great there were a lot of punctuation errors, along with a few spelling and grammatical mistakes. It didn’t really detract from the story but it could definitely use another edit.
Overall this is a solid 4 star book of love, friendship and overcoming your fears. I’m surprised by the limited number of reviews online, and will definitely be recommending this book to anyone looking for a fun, easy read that sucks you in.

I loved how easy it was to read this book which just flows along like an old friend is telling you their life story. The conversation is smooth and comfortable. It starts out with Alan telling us how he and his best friend Hardeep would pick up girls. It wasn’t at all negative. His pickup lines were funny and Hardeep was his wingman who backed up his moves and they kept each other out of trouble. But then the inexplicable happened and Hardeep started dating this girl Nicky. That part was traumatic, but Alan figured his friend would get over it. But apparently not. They were still going strong after two years. Then the inexplicable happened and Hardeep asked Nicky to marry him.
When Alan is asked by his long-time friend to be best man at his wedding he should be honored and happy for him. Instead, he is terrified to speak in public after the last disastrous attempt. (Of course that was when he was 10 years old and narrator for the school Christmas play… but that’s another story.) But worse yet, he is in love with the bride-to-be! He won’t be telling that part to his best friend! What does he do now?
This is a very well-written story with lots of laughter. Grab your copy and enjoy the chaos. You don’t want to miss the lobster scene!
I really enjoyed this one! You follow Alan who is still pining over his college love/best friend, Nicky, who is set to marry childhood friend - Hardeep. The story is chaotic, hilarious, and while it is about love it covers those hard moments when someone is working to overcome personal hang ups. There is also a chaotic moment about a lobster on the loose...hysterical!
If you love the chaos of weddings, life, love, and heartwarming childhood flashbacks - I definitely recommend this one. Absolutely adored it and finished it in one sitting.
I was given a copy of this story to read; but thoughts and opinions are all my own. Thank you to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for the chance to read this book!
A sparkling romantic comedy about life, love and lobsters. When Alan gets asked to be best man at his friend's wedding he should be delighted. Only problem is he's got a morbid fear of public speaking and is in love with the bride-to-be.....
Holy heck, I loved this book. Exactly my favourite type of book to get stuck into, but this time written from the perspective of a man. It had love, friendship, an absolutely wild "Serial Best Man", being in love with someone you can't be with, a terrible public speaker and a Lobster on the loose.
It was hilarious - so much chaos, well written, I loved the touches on Indian culture and the flashbacks to their childhood's. I loved following Alan and his dramas with work, love, friendship and over coming his fears, and it was great to view weddings and best man duties and love from a male perspective. The character of Charlie was absolutely hilarious and a great touch.
I really hope there is a follow up book for more fun. Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Loved this book, the idea behind it and the characters. These characters are so relatable, and quite human. Plus there is the fact that proceeds are being donated to Comic Relief(I think). I don't do synopses. MUST read for yourself, you will be glad you did.
