Candlewick is done waiting for an alpha to sweep him off his feet. He’s spent the last decade traveling, making trouble, and flirting with the most powerful men in the world. That’s what he’s good at.
After he spends a few nights in jail because of said trouble, he doesn’t expect anyone to come for him. He certainly doesn’t expect his fated mate to show up in the jail parking lot riding a dragon.
Manny is the exact opposite of Candlewick in every way: stuffy, traditional, and a devout follower of the red wolf shifter God. He blushes every time Candlewick makes an inappropriate joke, which is often. He also shies away from Candlewick’s increasingly direct flirtations. He claims that because he is unable to give Candlewick a proper bond bite, any physical contact between the two of them would be a sin.
But Candlewick has won over princes and CEO’s with his smile and personality. Surely he can convince his fated mate that there are some things worth being wicked for...
Wicked is a humorous book in the Lost Red Wolves series with knotting, MPreg, and an inconvenient heat. It will make more sense if you’ve read the first two books.
Can you reconcile your religion with your need to satisfy your mate... without being able to bond?
Wow! Just Wow. Candlewick so deserves to get his mate and HEA. Manny survived the pits, filled with guilt. His religion may be keeping him from fully embracing his newfound mate. I won't duplicate the blurb. Suffice it to say this is one powerful book. The religion aspect is dealt with with respect and compassion. There is insta-love, selflessness, good friends, revelations, and of course, sex. You'll have to wait for it, but it's worth the wait. This book is beautifully written. The story tugs at your heart. You become invested very quickly. You are simply gonna love this book! Please. Do yourself a favor and read the previous books in order. They explain so much, and are well worth the read.
Not my favorite Amy Bellows’ novel. I really enjoyed Candlewick, and Manny—to a certain point. The story’s beginning and middle were good, but the ending was too abrupt. Only half the conflict was resolved and not very well either.

NO STAR gained for: "That's it. I'm hooked on this author. I will automatically try anything she/he/they writes."
I was so excited for Candlewick's story and it was good, I just didn't completely love it like I did with Buddy's story. Manny was too conflicted and played with Candlewick's feelings just a little too much for me. But I do like all the world building Amy added. It's always so interesting to see all the layers of her world
Confession time. From the moment we were introduced to Manny, I could not stand him. Now we didn't really know him so admittedly, my dislike was a little unfair. But when our only real knowledge about a character is them being a little too into a religion that wants nothing to do with them, it makes for one hell of a person impression. I want to make it clear, I didn't dislike Manny because he was religious. I didn't like him because he followed a religion that did not want him and said what happened to him was his fault. Knowing he was going to be with Candlewick, a character I love, reservations were had. But all of that being said, I still really loved this book.
For a character I had a lot of reservations about, I actually ended up loving Manny. He was funny and sexy in his own way. He's a badass who rescues children and wants to be a foster dad. I don't think his dopeness is ever given enough credit. Seeing him work through his own trauma and darkness actually helped in understanding him better. I still didn't like his ass for good third of this book and more than once I wanted to throw him across the room but I understood him better. And I can't even begin to tell you how much I appreciate the fact that there was no homophobia in this book. Homophobia as a plot device or character trauma will make me dnf a book. Thank God it wasn't here.
Candlewick was perfect. Go fall in love with him (and David and Lester for that matter). Anne was a badass as always. And Ken? I can already tell he's going to give timber a run for his money as my favorite alpha in this series.
If you are familiar with Amy Bellows's work, throw that information out the window. This series is unlike any of those. There are sweet moments but for the most part the series is angsty, it's dark, and it will throw you on an emotional rollercoaster you were not prepared for because the brochure did not properly advertise. But the HEA is worth it. The sweet moments are more than enough to keep you going and Manny really fights to be with Candlewick. I was already endeared to him after his talk with Ken (who is really hot to me for some reason) but that made me love him.
I think this book might be hard for some people at times and healing at others. It gets wild (I screamed at that final 10%. Seriously, it's like that scene from Community where Troy walks in with the pizza, insanity) but the ending is beautiful and so worth it. Five stars because I got to see one of my new favorite characters again who better get a book at some point. Seriously, I will riot.
This was sweeter than the other two but it worked for the pair as they both have ptsd from past abuse. Their story needed to be gentle, in a way, to work. Manny, is a small alpha, with a small cock who was disfigured from the breeding pits. He has a lot of trauma that he channeled into a cultish religion 🙃. He denies himself because it's what he thinks he deserves, what his god demands. Candlewick (aka Isaiah) is a half fox/ red wolf shifter omega sex worker who stayed with his abuser to protect the protagonist from the second book, Real. Both men have baggage and are opposites in the way they approach life...but they work really good together. Candlewick is a sweetheart with a huge heart. He loved saving others. Manny's job is to rescue shifters in need. I really liked the shifter world this author created. Definitely plan on checking out more books from them. I am particularly interested in the super omega Milo who has extreme thrall hormones. Milo seemed jaded with a chip on his shoulder and an ex thrall dealer. Consider me intrigued. I gotta see if he has a book of his own.
Zachary Zaba is a great narrator, love his tone and accents. Not mechanical in the least, so he goes on my approved narrator list.
Because I feel like the author rushed at the end and didn't write the most integral part of the story, instead choosing to time jump and tell us what happened, I can't give this 5 stars.
3.75-4 is the pool we're swimming in. Great series overall.
What an abrupt ending! (Although a good one) How many times did Manny leave Candlewick? Like three?? Now that’s a stretch. Oh well. Alls well that ends well.
3.0 It's not you, it's me.. OK characters, OK story, lackluster sex.
I like more traditional books with strong, dominant, growly Alpha's with big dicks, and this just isn't that.
It's still a beautiful relationship and I liked the characters and their journey for the most part. (Sometimes I wanted to smash Timmys head in for being stubborn and stupid, and ruining their happiness for no reason) but it was still described in a way that made it palatable even if it was irritating.
His reasons where stupid, but I could still understand and have empathy for why he felt the way he did. That takes talent in a writer! It didn't feel contrived, even though is should have!
I think its very commendable to write stories with characters that are different from the norm, and their connection is really beautiful, even if it isn't what I personally am looking for in a story.
I think most people will like this story, if your just looking for a nice book with a couple getting together and conquering their obstacles. Like I said, it's described really well, so that you feel with the characters.
It's just that personally this isn't my kink, I'm looking for something else, but just because it isn't my thing, doesn't mean that I can't recognize a good book.
The Alpha is very damaged and emotional, and his lifes story was sad and haunting. Not to mention his insecurity about certain physical attributes. He was a very beautiful character, and I could certainly appreciate the craft it took to create someone so complicated that you could connect with and care about, even if he was very different from the norm.
Very few authors make you feel invested in the story to this degree, I could truly feel what they felt, and that takes skill. I think that is why I keep reading these stories that I already suspect from the outset isn't really for me. Her talent is just too great, it sucks me in every time!
Was very disappointed in the ending though! It ended so incredibly abruptly, and before they had even bonded or started their family! It was more like (Oh, this will probably work out, - The End!) What?!
They still had some major hurdles before they could even do the bonding, so shouldn't we at least get to see that, isn't that like the reward at the end of the book, to finally watch their bond click into place?!
And it wasn't even 100% clear how they would do that? It was hinted that he would probably give up his religion to get his bonding teeth back, but it wasn't at all clear if that would actually work. I needed a more comprehensive ending, thank you very much.
You understand that they probably lived happily ever after, but you didn't get to SEE it. It felt like she got tired of the story and just wrapped it up.
The sex was also underwhelming from my point of view, but that's just because I like Alpha's who dominate their partners, and wreck their poor little omega holes with their enormous dicks, and this was more emotional in tone than straight up erotic, even if we witness a heat with creative solutions for small dicks. So there's nothing wrong with this at all, it just wasn't my speed.
So in conclusion: It's a good book, most people will like it, it just wasn't for me, because I'm a depraved kinkster. 😈
This entire series is full of emotions and feelings peppered in with some very hot scenes and I think they build nicely on each other. You could try to read this one by itself but I'd recommend at a minimum to read Real first. This one focuses on Manny and Candlewick's relationship and it is truly something beautiful to watch these two men fight for their HEA. I truly thought that Candlewick would've been my favorite character. He's loud and sassy and full of life despite the trauma of being with an abuser. However, while he's amazing, I ended up really connecting with Manny more. I'm not even really all that religious but there was something to Manny's need to help others as a way to avoid dealing with his own traumatic history that really had me empathizing with him.
Amy's side characters are always crazy well developed and given real personalities and that's most certainly the case here. I loved seeing Anne guide Manny, learning about David and Lester (and I wouldn't mind a behind the scenes of when their relationship changed), and being introduced to all the other Candlewicks' friends along with Ken and Milo (and the last of the red wolf shifter alphas). This story would not be as strong if it wasn't for them and I think they're often overlooked.
There's a lot that could potentially turn someone off, Manny's relationship to his religion, mentions of an abusive relationship, and maybe even Manny's issues with his physical self but to me, these are all handled in a very respective way and I think they could also be the reason someone connects even deeper with this story. I am so glad that I read this and this whole series is definitely one I am more than happy to come back to time and time again!
Opposites definitely attract in this latest installment of the Lost Red Wolves series. Candlewick is definitely comfortable with his body and his sexuality. After years of working as an escort he knows a thing or two about how to use his thrall. After helping his friend, Buddy, escape from the Man who makes both of their lives a living hell, candlewick meets his fated mate. Manny, is an extremely religious individual. He spent years in the breeding pits and feels he needs to atone for the sins he committed there. For the last 12 years he has sacrificed all to save children who are trafficked, however he still feels guilt from his time in the breeding pits. He’s never given himself a chance to heal and become comfortable with his own sexuality. Meeting his fighted mate Candlewick, has him conflicted with his natural desires and his religion.
The story will pull your heartstrings and have you questioning how some people approach religion and sexuality. This was very delicately done and Approached in a way not meant to offend anyone’s religious or spiritual beliefs. It is an amazing story of two people on opposite ends of a topic and how compromise is the key.
World building and characters are very well done and developed. It is a beautiful story. It can be red as a standalone or as part of this series, several characters overlap in these novels which will have you wanting to know their stories. Each story in this series deals with overcoming trauma and is Done with the upmost sensitivity.
Highly recommend reading this novel and series as it is a traditional Amy Bellows novel with all the feels and all the laughter.
I loved Candlewick in the previous book and the role he played in helping Buddy. And Manny has been a pretty big mystery. So I’m glad that we finally got their story!
I’ll start by saying that this is my least favorite of the series. It felt too short and the ending too rushed. I really wanted to see more of Candlewick and Manny’s future life together! Maybe in the next book, if there is one?
But I still enjoyed it. After all that Candlewick and Manny have been through, they deserve to find their fated mate, and I think these two were truly meant to be together. Candlewick needs someone to treat him like royalty. Manny needs someone to patiently help him find acceptance and happiness. Even though we don’t get it on page, I can totally picture them with a big loving household and a lot of wonderful found family.
Speaking of which, I loved all of the side characters, especially Candlewick’s friends! There’s a really sweet scene towards the end of the book that shows just how much they love Candlewick and it warmed my heart. Everybody deserves friends like that!
This story has all you expect from Amy - great world building; interesting story; colorful cast of characters; fated mates fighting to be with each other; and more. I hope there’s another book in this series. We need Ken’s story!
I was thrilled to see that Candlewick was getting a story, he has been enchanting me since his first appearance. Anyone as selfless as Candlewick deserved a happily-ever-after. But Manny was not a worthy mate, in my opinion and he didn't do this story justice.
So lets start with what I liked, Candlewick. Everything about this man was perfect. He was selfless, willing to give up his life for Buddy, distancing himself from friends to protect them, surviving abuse....he is the definition of strong. Then we have trauma wagon Manny, who is so overburdened with his baggage, I don't think he will ever get over it. He is the definition of fickle, hot and cold with Candlewick, he wants him but religion prevents them. And so the story went, back and forth, he plays with Candlewick's emotions till he essentially has to pull his head out of his arse or risk losing Candlewick forever.
The ending was extremely rushed, honestly I read it twice and I am still a little confused on how Candlewick and Manny were able to bond/buy time? The details are fuzzy at best. Then we are instantly thrown into an epilogue and that was the definition of chaos. I loathe that Amy Bellow doesn't give you a chapter or two of characters enjoying themselves and being happy. After all the drama and trauma, don't we readers at least deserve to see some happiness?
I love this series! The world build is so impressive, the author is able create a shifter world that is wonderfully magical but also feels relatable and grounded. I especially loved how over the three books we see how their time in the pits has impacted Timber, H, and Manny in very different ways. For Manny, his life since escaping the pits has been dedicated to saving other Red Wolf children and devoted to his God. Manny’s religion has been a comfort after his trauma but also has kept him isolated, this topic was explored in an interesting and thoughtful manner. One of the most enjoyable parts of this series has been how the author weaves in characters and plot points of her other books to create one big, cohesive and fascinating world. A hard fought and beautiful happy ending for Manny and Candlewick- I loved the creative and epic solution to their bonding problem. Beautiful writing, amazing characters, I loved it!❤️❤️
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I love this series and this was another emotional one and while I didn't sob like I did while reading Buddys story this still made me shed some tears.
Manny, who along with Timber and H from the first two books has survived the pits together have all dealt with the trauma in different ways. But when Manny meets Chandlewick, who was the one who rescued Buddy, he finds both his fated mate and that he has more trauma than he thought. And since he was muzzled he can't bite Chandlewick and give him the bond bite. Chandlewick hasn't had it easy either and being a mixed shifter and an escort that's been abused he's thrilled to find that he has a fated mate and devastated when it's revealed that they may be forced to go their separate ways.
I loved the story and I hope we get Kens story next.
This author knows how to write, and write well. Wicked is no exception. Well built characters and a solid plot continue to make the Red wolf shifters world come to life. Manny is a good man who is religious and self sacrificing. When he finds his fated mate Candlewick, a strong minded escort Manny is forced to confront where religion, fear and trauma intersect. And that’s why this author’s books are so great. Yes, it is MPreg and yes it’s a insta love, ( fated mates) story that is full of tendernesses, heat and of course true love. But the story is deeper than that and that makes it a book worth reading. This honest review was given in exchange an ARC
One of the best things for me is that Candlewick and Manny have problems with getting together even if they are fated mates. So many books just bypass the problems of getting into a relationship by using the idea of fated mates seeing each other and boom they are in love. This is a sad but ultimately sweet story which is hard to pull off without the book coming across as a ridiculous melodrama. Any Bellows is terrific at sweet stuff, which she does so well in her penguin shifter romances but with this series she has shown how good she also is at writing much more emotional stories. I highly recommend this book.
Of all of Amy's books, this was my least favorite, but that wasn't unexpected. I knew about the religious references ahead of time and it really made the book difficult to sink into.
The end feels a bit incomplete and I didn't connect with the characters like I typically do.
In the end, I will keep reading her books because she is awesome. She put a lot of thought and care into this book, and though it didn't work for me, it still means something.
I felt like this was left I fished and everything was so abrupt. It’s like everything was just thrown together super quickly. And this book was so focused on religion. From past books Candlewick is a sensual creature and that wasn’t focused enough here. Amy writes better then this. I really wanted Candlewicks story. And I didn’t get it with this. And I was craving the nesting scenes that Amy always gives and there was hardly any description of that. You couldn’t imagine it at all. Maybe this was just a one off and the next will be better. Crossing my fingers!
This premise of this book was not at all enticing to me, but after book 2, how could I not want to know what happened to these two? I found the religion thing a little overdone, considering how quickly it became a nonissue towards the end. The whole red wolf thrall - mating bond issue was pointless. Couldn't they just make sure about the pregnancy in the first place to avoid all the weird crap?
Also, I don't care about the origins story, Candlewick is a dumb name. Could have at least had a nickname.
Amy Bellows delivers another fantastic book! The story of Manny and Candlewick is beautifully written with complex characters and plot twists that keep you turning pages throughout. They go through a rollercoaster of emotions as they try to get to their HEA, but they are not alone in this endeavour. I loved reading this story and highly recommend it,as I believe it will become a favourite. Don't miss out on this book!!
This series never fails to bring all the emotions! Candlewick is an amazing character and I’m super excited to have read his story. Manny is a complex character who makes a lot of mistakes. Understanding his background helps to redeem him. The two together were very sweet…. Eventually. The world building is amazing and the secondary characters are just as great as the main characters! I can’t wait for the next book!
While not my favorite in the series, I am always in awe of the Omegaverse that Amy Bellows has created. It’s so unique and beautiful, each of the characters are wonderful and interesting. This was a continuation of Real, telling Candlewick’s story. I expected so much and just got bogged down with too much of the religious trauma, which was extremely important to Manny’s journey. It was just a little too much for me.
I really love this series it's my favorite by the author. This book was a fantastic addition and I hope it's not the last because I want to get lost in this magical world again. The lore about red wolf shifters is fascinating. My heart ached for both Candlewick and Manny. I loved their journey. It wasn't easy but it was beautiful. One of my favorite fated mates stories I've read. The narrator was wonderful. He brought this great story to life beautifully.
I keep it short and sweet: this serirs is so compelling, living with trauma but finding a way to be able to do so and hral without forgetting. I would recommend to read/ listen in order otherwise the book does not make a lot of sense. If you appreciate MM, shifter amd fantasy this is for you. I hope there will be at least one more in the series. If not I can live with this ending. You might lookout for triggers. Audiobook: The narration was so fitting for the series,
I have been waiting for the audio release of Wicked and it was so worth the wait. I love they way that they are drawn to each other right away but how to make it work is the struggle and sacrifice they both need to make. This story is full of feels. There was one statement near that really resonated to me as Manny was reflecting on life but no spoilers so I can’t share but I’m sure I won’t be alone. Such a wonderful addition to the series.
This story is Manny and Candlewicks story. You meet Candlewick in book 2. In that one he seems interesting and kind. You want to learn about him. This one as you learn more some of the ways he goes about helping Buddy make much sense. This one I found I cried less but was rooting the same for the mc's as in other books. Now I am hoping to read Ken or steppe's story next.
This one was cute, but it just wasn't what I was expecting. I fully expected a slow burn with Candlewick having to do everything in his power to convince Manny to be with him, but I was definitely not expecting all of this. Oof. Amy comes up with the craziest plotlines - every species is so different - this book had us on a rollercoaster of emotions, man. I'm an anti-religion woman who grew up in strict Christianity, but even I had a hard time with some of this story.
I freakin loved Candlewick and Manny! Candlewick is released from jail and picked up by Manny on a dragon. Upon meeting Manny, Candlewick realizes they are fated mates. But Manny is religious and reluctant. I loved the way the author handled that aspect. Such a fantastic story, well written with great pacing!
amazing.. i love this authors writing and this series makes me so happy and emotional. it is wonderful and sexy and will make your emotions run wild.. you will feel as if you are part of their world with them.. you will be sad with them and happy with them.. it was wonderful and amazing i loved it. i loved watching these two and their bond. perfect and this cover is amazing.
