Murder Unearthed seemed to start like any other thriller but boy did it have a special something about that's rather elusive in the novel world let alone the mystery/thriller world. After the introduction to the story and characters it quickly morphs into a story I genuinely couldn't put down and enjoyed from start to finish in a couple of hours. The tale has something incredibly addictive about it and is beautifully crafted and written with some of the most in-depth and fascinating characterisation I've encountered in a while.

I am seldom surprised by books nowadays, but I certainly wasn't expecting Ms Waller to blow me away this much. In fact, I am so impressed that she has moved swiftly onto my list of authors to watch like a hawk and have already started moving my way through her previous thrillers. Although this is the third book in the Kat and Mouse mystery series it can indeed be read without issue as a standalone, as there is enough backstory to fill you in but having purchased the others I aim on catching up anyway.

An unmissable instalment if you enjoy mystery, intrigue, superb characters and twists that catch you out big time! Many thanks to Bloodhound Books for an ARC.

The third book in the Kat and Mouse crime series and another belter of a read!

I am absolutely loving this series. It’s a bit of a cross between a cosy mystery/crime thriller. The cosiness comes in the form of three wonderful characters, Kat, Mouse (Beth) and Doris. Although after reading this one, I am in awe of Doris as for someone approaching seventy, she shows she is not to be messed with!

It’s like catching up with old friends picking up a book in this series. I love the village feel that we get as Doris has moved into a new cottage that sounded very idyllic. Obviously being a crime book though, you need to have the odd murder to liven things up a bit.

The novel has two storylines running through it, one to do with the murders of two young females and the other for Kat and Mouse’s private investigating business trying to find a client’s son. Both were as intriguing as the other with some shocking outcomes that I really hadn’t expected.

Murder Unearthed was a novel I devoured in one sitting. The author grabbed my attention from the very first page and kept me there to the last. It’s a series you really get invested in as the reader can’t help but take to these three different but strong personalities. A highly enjoyable story that kept me guessing until the the end.

Each time I read a new book in this series I smile. You can't help but like Doris (and in this story feel quite protective of her,) plus Kat and Mouse.

With Connection beginning to search for a son a father wants to find, and police trying to solve the murders of two teenage girls, there's a lot going on in this story. Waller keeps all the threads untangled, and the reader wondering who has done what.

A series really has to hold my interest and keep me entertained. This series has being doing both, and with just one book left to read, I'll miss it when it ends.

This is Book #3 in the Kat and Mouse series by Anita Waller, it can be read as a stand-alone, but you will miss out a little on the back stories and just the joy of reading books 1 and 2.

Doris (Nan) has now moved out of Kat’s into a cottage of her own, but they are still together most of the time and their Private Detective agency, Connection is thriving.

The story revolves around two missing girls, a man who had crashed and died with a shovel, mud and a single women’s boot in his car……two bodies are soon found but are these deaths linked?

DI Tessa Marsden again asks Kat, Mouse and Nan if they can help….and so the investigation begins…

They are also helping Ewan Barker trace his son……he seems to be getting on well with Nan……!

I love the relationship between Nan, Kat and Mouse, three strong women who help and support each other and run a successful and sometimes dangerous business.

A clever and well plotted story, with plenty of twists to keep you guessing. Another wonderful cosy thriller from Anita Waller…..

Thank you to Bloodhound Books for the opportunity to participate in this blog tour and for the promotional materials and a free copy of the ebook. This is my honest, unbiased review.

This entire series of cozy mysteries is delightful brain candy. I love the characters, and the plot is quite good, not horribly predictable.

Kat, Mouse and Doris are back in town and I absolutely enjoyed my time with them.

The book starts right off the bat with the hiding of a murder. With the first sentence of the chapter, I was drawn into the mystery of the story. The way the book starts gave me the feel that I’m in the right place with the right read.

Like the previous two installments of the Kat and Mouse series, Murder Unearthed, too, has the countryside, Agatha Christie feel I always love. Two girls dead on the same night with no clues as to what happened to them and how it happened was an immediate hook. These two were the main murder investigations going on, along with which we had three more smaller but equally engaging sub plots which kept me at the edge and constantly worried about the three ladies – Kat, Mouse and Doris. All these cases and personal worries of the characters kept me hooked to the story and made sure I saw it through till the end. The small twists thrown in at strategic places did surprise me but, I have to say, I saw the major twist coming. At least I had some idea, so it didn’t hit me like a brick but that didn’t take its charm away. One thing I would have loved to see was a bit more involvement of the Ladies in the murder investigations taken care by DI Marsden. Other than that, I enjoyed another Anita Waller read.

I've now read the third Kat & Mouse book in the 'trilogy' which I understand is going to go on to become a quadrilogy with a fourth due for release in October.
A driver runs off the road and dies, and DI Tess Marsden suspects that the crash victim may have buried a body of a woman, due to mud on his clothing, on a shovel in the car, and the discovery of one female shoe. Two murder victims are found in seperate locations but are they connected by the same killer?
Tess turns to Connection, the private investigation company that is run by Kat and Mouse and the indomitable Doris, (who really shows her muscle in this episode) who are able to look at the case through minds that have not been conditioned by a police training manual. In other words they think outside the box.
Meanwhile, there is plenty going on with the Connection business, with a couple of investigations going on.
In summary you get a lot for your money in a Kat and Mouse episode, with never a dull moment.

To say I was impatient waiting for book 3 to be sent, is an understatement. I am a big fan of Anita Waller and so thankful to have her books on my Kindle.

I love the chemistry between Kat, Mouse and Doris, and just when I thought this book series couldn't get any better, book 3 hits my kindle and I love it.

Murder Unearthed is full of twists and turns and there was no way I knew who the culprit was and I loved it.

If you like good 'whodunit' stories, then you need the books by Anita Waller.

This is an easy 5 stars

The advantage of incredibly horrible weather is being confined to the house so listening to an audiobook is extremely pleasant. Another set of unlikely scenarios but good triumphs even if it is tragic.

Someone recently made fun of me for reading cozy mysteries, but this one was pretty smart. I didn't figure it out until the very end. I like that this is female-driven- five strong women make up the main slate of characters. I'm actually sad this is such a short series (audio on scribd)

Anita Waller does it again !!!! Another great book, with this being the third in the Kat and Mouse series. If you haven’t read the previous books in the series then this could be read as a stand-alone but I would definitely recommend reading the previous books as you will be missing out on the history of the characters and obviously some brilliant books.

This book centres around two missing girls from the same area and we see the return of DI Tessa Marsden who is in charge of the investigations. Soon two bodies are found and although the girls have gone missing on the same night and from the same village it is soon apparent that they are not linked. Tessa soon turns to the ladies of Connection to help her with the investigation.

As well as helping Tessa, Kat, Mouse and Doris are busy with their own investigations. Ewan Barker is looking for his long lost son and a young couple are concerned for their safety when they receive a letter addressed to them at their new home but no-one knows they have moved there. Will the ladies solve all their investigations ? Will Tessa unravel the truth behind the girls murders ?

This is another brilliant Kat and Mouse instalment !! The ladies are all brilliant characters and we see a very powerful Doris in this latest book. As always you get a lot of mystery for your money in this book with one main investigation and lots of smaller ones running in the background but it never gets confusing. I am so pleased there is to be a fourth instalment as in definitely not ready to let go of Kat, Mouse and Doris just yet.

Thank you to Bloodhound Books for a digital copy of this book.

This is the third book in the series which has at its heart a friendship between Kat, Beth (aka mouse) and Doris. They are not only friends but also have a PI agency.
D I Tessa Marsden has become another strong character in the books and someone who the friends have come to respect, support and enjoy the company of and this works both ways.
There are two investigations – the two murders under investigation by D I Marsden and that of a man, Ewan Barker, who asks the Agency to find his long lost son.
It is interesting to compare the two types of investigation – that of the police procedural versus that of a private investigator – how each can work in their own realms and can also be of help to each other without the competitive atmosphere often found in crime fiction.
The main characters are charming, believable and well written by Anita Waller. The plotting is easy to read with plenty to keep the reader guessing in both threads. Whilst I see why this may be considered a ‘cosy’ mystery there is an edge to the plot lines which gives it a bit of a gritty feel at times.
Anita Waller handles some quite dark scenarios with a lightness of touch, a little humour, strong female characters and empathy. The plotting is well done. It will be a shame if this really is the last in the series of Kat and Mouse books as there seems to be still more that the books could bring to the reader both with the characters and new storylines.
I can certainly recommend Murder Unearthed indeed all of the Kat and Mouse Series (so far!).
3.5-4*

Anita Waller's Kat and Mouse Mysteries series keeps getting better book after book.

Murder Unearthed continues the adventures of Kat, Mouse and Nan, the investigative trio, in an instalment that offers more to the reader: more murders, more depth, more complexity, and more fun. Murdered girls, taboo relationships, a search for a lost son, revenge... You don't have to pick, you can find it all in this third instalment, and this web of storylines is woven quite neatly.

This series has turned out to be easy to read, fast-paced and quite entertaining.

One of my absolute favourite crime solving combinations are back in their third story! Two girls go missing from the same village on the same night. It's hard for investigating officer DI Tessa Marsden to believe that it is coincidence but that's what it is when all the evidence points to two unrelated murders. Both girls appear to be well loved with no enemies but then a shocking discovery about one of the girls changes the course of the investigation completely. Meanwhile Nan (Doris) is settling nicely into her new cottage, the Connection Investigation Agency is thriving and Kat is happy in her relationship with detective Carl. They are given a new case, that of tracking down a man's long lost son which should be child's play for the team. Or will it? DI Marsden and her loyal DS Hannah Granger quite often pick the brains of Kat, Mouse and Nan when a case is baffling them. A good job as they have a tricky one on their hands. This is an excellent additon to the series, although I think the crimes being tackled here are maybe a little darker than previously. I love the relationships between all the characters who I have grown to love as the stories progress. I quite often find myself smiling to myself as I am reading the witty and caring dialogue between Kat, Mouse and Nan. Secretly I would adore a feisty karate fighting IT expert like Doris as my nan! And I also have an extra reason to love this book but you'll have to read it to find out. Wonderful stuff!!

Two young women have gone missing simultaneously from a small sleepy Derbyshire village. A young man has been found killed having crashes his car whilst covered in mud. An older gentleman is looking for his son whom he has never met as his mother disappeared a couple of months before the birth. Kat, Mouse (beth) and Doris have a good relationship with the local police force and occasionally are brought in to cases having come across a clue or oddity by accident. The missing son is more the bread and butter of their business- Connections- a private investigation agency. I love this series. It’s one you know you will feel at home with. Nothing to gory or scary, wonderful characters that you take to (or not in some cases) and Anita’s special magic of putting together a cleverly thought out plot that nine or ten times out of ten you wonder how it got there. This is part of a series and could be read alone but far better in sequence, and why miss out on the first two wonderful ones? I understand that the next one will be the last in the series and I will miss Kat, Mouse and Doris as they are such lifelike, wonderful characters that you feel you could happily have them as friends. Another stunning read Anita- thank you.

Slightly different from the usual murder mystery

I haven’t read any of the other mysteries in this series so it took me awhile to sort out who the “usual” characters were. And I didn’t know anything about their occupations either so the first part of the book had me sighing “and who is THIS now?”

The murders of two young women shakes a small town in the Peak District, just outside of Manchester. One of the murders is solved less than a quarter of the way into the book, but the other isn’t until the end. And there are a couple of other menacing stories too, one to do with the inquiry agency run by “Kat and Mouse” (kinda cheesy names in my opinion but oh well) and the other to do with Kat’s former mother-in-law.

The book is written well as a murder mystery and the solution to the murder makes sense. No red herrings on that one.

If you like murder mysteries, Waller is a good writer but I would suggest you start with the first one. Having been caught up on the history through this book, I won’t be going back but I will be on the lookout for her final book in the series, apparently due out in Oct 2019.

Thank you Bloodhound Books for an ARC of this outstanding read from Anita Waller.

This is the third in the Kat, Mouse & Doris "Murder" series and is just as enjoyable as the previous two.
This series is set in breathtakingly beautiful Derbyshire and is a delightful comfortable read.

DI Tessa Marsden and her team investigate and solve the murder of two Castleton girls, unlinked,
two separate deaths, whilst Connection, based in the beautiful plague village of Eyam continue their business as Private Investigators. Tessa Marsden visits them occasionally for inspiration as Doris is seen in a totally different light in this book .

There are many twists and turns , shocks and surprises which Anita Waller never fails to deliver.
Her books are moved to the top of my "To be Read" pile every time as she has become one of my all time favourite authors.
I highly recommend this series and look forward to the next instalment.

2 girls go missing on the same night and are subsequently found dead.
Were Orla French and Mandy Williamson killed by the same person? Tessa and Hannah need to find out what has happened to the girls for the sake of the families.
Kat and Mouse are helping Doris to move into her new home, Little Mouse Cottage. They are approached by Ewan Barker to search for his son, is all as it seems? Has Doris found love?
Plenty of questions to be answered in this latest book in the series. I love how there are always more than one problem to solve in each book. Kat, Doris and Mouse work well together and are a great team for Tessa and Hannah to go to when they need to discuss work problems with an outside team. It is great to read books with great friendships playing such an important part.

Thoroughly enjoyable.

I've read all three with pleasure. Each was pretty compulsive as you discovered more about the key characters and became embroiled in the various storylines.
This third book kept me glued. I enjoy the interweaving of storylines
The geographical background is powerful and recognisable.
The development of the three main characters continues to be amusing, warm and credible.
I must admit to recognising the murderer from the beginning but that was possibly luck and in no way spoilt the unravelling. I could so easily have been wrong!
Very little gore or bad language (negligible) adds to the positives.
Of course if you love blood and guts and frequent hard language this would be a relaxing change: I'm happy to read either but do prefer the style of this series.
I shall look out for number 4.

Hooked from the very first chapter.

Once again, in the first few pages, this very talented author transported me to a rain soaked Yorkshire in the dead of night and had me well and truly hooked by the end of the first chapter.
There’s just something about these books that draws the reader in, you feel comfortable with the characters, like they are family, and then the plot takes hold so you become lost in their world.
The author has woven a very clever tale of human frailty and the intricacies of family and how love can be a very dangerous thing.
Well done Anita, I loved it.

This series is getting better all the time; Anita Waller is a tremendous writer and her portrayal of both location and character is excellent. We learn more about the personal lives of the principals, and they are all put under pressure in this instalment in their pursuit of missing persons. The connection to police investigations is strengthened here and this enables the storylines to be even more engrossing. A superb read!

This is Book 3 in the Kat and Mouse series by Anita Waller and they have all been a really good read. Murder Unearthed is the story of two young women who died on the same evening and both have been murdered
The series gets better the more you read of the series and it helps when you know of the areas in the Peak District that are mentioned in the books.
Highly recommended.

Wow, the third book in this series was just as good as the first two. So many characters to choose from it was a real who-done-it, that had me thinking myself to sleep. I couldn't put it down. I'm on book four now, the last in the series, but hope Anita Waller changes her mind. I want to see this series grow and grow.
