Organized Murder

Rate this book
Joanna Webber is back in Book 3, Organized Murder, and putting herself right in the thick of finding a killer.

After her husband Ted’s death six years ago, she is finally ready to visit his grave. Having never been able to reconnect with him in the afterlife, even after regaining her psychic powers, her plan B is to go tell off his headstone. She’s hoping for the closure she has never been able to get.

He surprisingly appears at the cemetery and tells her the truth about his death. The new version includes not one, not two, but three organized crime families. One he worked for, and two that potentially had him killed.

In the end, the closure she craves comes from a place she never expected.

Lots of lies. A shooting. A move to both a new office and a new house. Plus, an engagement. This one has it all.

Joanna and the gang are back and ready to fight for what is right. Its been six years since her husband Ted has died and finally she can go and visit his grave . Well guess who she sees at his grave his ghost . Where she finds out some truths about what happened when he died . So instead of telling him off she gets embroiled in who murdered him . So now Joanna is mixed up with not one but three crime families . The one he worked for and the other two who wanted him dead. With the help of detective Clint , the man who has her heart but she denies it . Will they be able find out the truth and stay alive at the same time.
Joanna is well at it again , she is just trying to get over her late husband and get wrapped up in murder again . She is a strong woman but she has been through so much she feels lost . She is trying to move on but there is so much in her past that she has to get through to move forward. When she starts figuring everything out man she becomes a woman on a mission. I love her and her strength. She is one tough cookie and will take on anyone who wants to hurt her family . Clint is back and yes he is still sweet and sexy and also torn between his feelings for Joanna and trying to keep her safe . These characters are well written and you will care for them .
This is the third book in the series so you are hoping for a big story that will tie everything together and keep our main characters safe. The author throws a lot at them in this book. Which you are on the edge of your seat for and you want everything to work out . I feel that there is a lot more action in this book . I will admit there are a couple of things I wish the author would of done a bit more . I wish she would of brought the two main characters together a little sooner in the book . I know I know let them have their happily ever after but I wish it could of happened a little earlier . The twist at the ending was good who knew . Not going to tell you that one you will have to read to find out . Over all I really enjoyed the last book in the series . I am going to miss these characters . So if you want a fun series check it out

Third in the series. I'm not sure if Joanna's story is finished. I'm thinking so because it ended happily for her. She really has a set of brass ones because the things she did in this one and taking such dangerous chances with Oakley to think about really takes some courage. She's visited by Ted, her dead husband of over 6 years. It wasn't an accident but he was murdered. Things are not as they seem so Ms. Joanna is on a rollercoaster ride this time. Clint still is avoiding her kinda and she realizes how much he hurt her walking away but she's got her own issues to deal with puts it out of her mind... trying to. Can she solve this without dying in the process and move on and get her closure with Ted?

Spoiler at the end of this paragraph. Okay I did like this better than the last book. More details. I know this author hasn't put out many books so fairly new. This series isn't a romance and figured it out in the last book. This is more mystery with a romance potential but definitely not the focal point at all. I did have difficulty at the end and I couldn't really believe Clint did such a 180. Then both confessing their love so abruptly and quickly. Nah I don't believe it since it was at the end when that happened and he gave zero indication he was remotely wanting to try again or heck even get his own closure with Monica. A few things unanswered. He just seemed so against it not to mention her gift. He doesn't believe in it. So, I honestly don't understand how this could work for them. I really want to believe these two. I honestly believe Joanna more than Clint maybe because we're getting more of her POV but I don't think that's it. Anyways, saying all that I did enjoy the series just some things bothered me is all.

HELP WANTED: EDITOR

The story line is ok but way too much info about Oakley. We don't need to know every time she babbles or claps. Now on to my main complaint. Is English this authors first language? if so, they failed tense , sentence structue, punctuation and spelling. You have to insert your own words for the sentence to make sense. Too many errors. Reading should be fun, not English homework.

Well that’s the last one of this series I’ll be reading. I didn’t feel any romance between Clint and Jo. It seemed so force and came out in the end like an afterthought. And I hate it when the author makes the lead character so stupid just to further the story line. No one can be as stupid as Jo was in this book and live. I had high hopes for this series

Jo is investigating yet another murder at a ghosts request. This one is close to home though. Lots of secrets revealed. The depth if The characters and fast-paced action kept me on the edge of my seat to the end. I love thus book and series.

Organized Murder by Erica J. Whelton

Byline: A Psychic Mystery (A Medium with a Heart Paranormal Mystery Series Book 3).

At the time of writing this review in January 2023, there are 5 books in this series.
Erica J. Whelton is a new to me author and when book 1 Premedicated Murder was free on amazon.com, it was my introduction to this series. I like the premise of a medium who creates a successful business about being a medium while faking it, who gets her powers back, interacts with ghosts/spirits, tries to give them and their love one's closure and as a side line investigates those deaths that are murder when the victim asks her for help, much to the dismay of the skeptical detective Clint whose path Joanna keeps crossing. I was engaged with the story and set up of the series in Book 1 enough to purchase book 2 and 3. In Book 2 Joanna's story continues with some extra twists but then Joanna begins to display behaviour that is usually attributed to characters in horror/slasher movies, one example is going to a warehouse looking for the body of a victim of a serial killer while being stalked. At the end of book 2, the skeptical detective Clint and Joanna put a stop to their budding "romance"(I never got any romance chemistry between these two) because of all the emotional baggage both of them still carry about their previous partners' deaths. In Book 3 Joanna learns from the ghost of her deceased husband Ted, six years after his death, that his death was not what it seemed and instead of being killed in a car accident with his girlfriend, he was an enforcer for a crime syndicate since he was 17 and was killed by a rival, while on a job. So Joanna despite having been the target of killers in book 1 and 2, having been kidnapped in book 1 and 2 and is told by her local crime syndicate boss and her detective friend to leave it alone, decides to investigate her deceased husband murder, leaves her common sense at home, takes her baby daughter for a drive into the other crime syndicate's territory and asks random strangers where she can find mob boss by name and is then surprised to find herself being followed, taken at gunpoint to meet with one mob boss and later when moving her office from her home, because of increasing threats, to a newly rented office space with security, is being shot at by another lot.
For a medium Joanne did not get a lot of help from the various ghosts/spirits that float around in her house and other buildings/areas during this book, Ted was noticeably absent. I would have thought Ted could have given her some more background information. What is the point of being a medium if you do not get that advantage over other cozy mystery investigators/solvers?
After another near-death experience and the reveal of who is behind the third crime syndicate, at the end of book 3 the mystery of the Ted's murder is solved, we get "I love you" from both Clint and Joanna, which for me came out of the blue.

I like the concept of this series, but after a great start in Book 1, it sorts of fizzled out by book 3 and there is a sort of rinse and repeat pattern forming. I am a ferocious reader of various genres, not a writer and cannot imagine how much effort, blood, sweat and tears goes into creating and publishing original stories that readers want to read and purchase.
I am reading these books on kindle and by book 3, started noticing more issues, such as extra spacing in the middle of a chapter, missing words in sentences, letters missing from words, similar sounding words being used etc. These should have been picked up by proof readers, beta readers or arc readers before publication. Book 1 and 2 had minor issues with missing words and similar sounding words being used, but in book 3 more things seem to have been missed.

The author mentioned on her website that she is planning to continue this series with more books in 2024. If you subscribe to the author's newsletter on the website ejwheltonwrites.com you will receive a free novella called Unsolved Murder which is the back story of Joanna Webber when she was a 10-year-old girl and why her medium powers have been dormant for years.

It may have been 6 years since Joanna Webber's husband died but she hasn't come close to opening her heart for the possibility of love again. She may have come close with Detective Hartley (Clint), but he hasn't exactly moved on from the death of his loved one either. Since regaining her psychic abilities she hasn't crossed paths with Ted, so the next step for her to get some closure and hopefully move on is to go to his headstone and maybe curse, rant, and rage there.
Surprisingly this is where she finally comes face-to-face (or as much as you can with a ghost) with Ted. However, things don't go completely as planned for Joanna when he tells her the truth of his death. One where he never cheated on her, but was actually working for the famous Hank the Hammer and wasn't drunk, but killed and possibly by a rival of Hank's.
Joanna is on another adventure, but this time it's for her own peace of mind and to finally bring a close to that chapter of her life. With her adopted daughter it's time to make changes to ensure she's safe. This means separating her work from her personal life, new office, new home, and possibly a new out look on love???

I loved reading more adventures and a new mystery for Joanna. I can only hope we get more...and maybe finally get to figure out what is Hank's deal with asking about his mother every times he sees Joanna.

“I’ve just finished reading this third part and can’t believe is time to let Joanna and Clint go. It’s always the saddest part, let characters go. This last book was absolutely insane in a good way! After everything Joanna went through and still dealing with she was ready to say the last goodbye to Ted though what an incredible turnout of events. I was ready to a huge revelation but it was like a huge explosion of news and well as expected nothing is a simple as seems. The plot is more focus on the truth behind Ted’s dead and how he wasn’t what we thought at first. I really like that Joanna’s journey was not only a path of mental peace and personal growth but also about second chances and love. I’m not gonna stop adoring Clint because until the last moment he was adorable.”

The third in the series and it doesn't disappoint. When I read a series I worry if the series will hold up and continue to be worth reading. This series does just that the storyline and characters are amazing and just continue to get better. I want more
