Elle Roberts wants two things in life: One—to find out everything there is to know about the mysterious spy who keeps kissing her, and Two—to stay off her mob family’s radar.
That isn’t too much to ask, is it? It’s not like she wants to win the lottery, or live in a Star Wars movie, or be Chris Hemsworth’s personal bather. All she wants is to not be part of a criminal organization and to tie down her elusive, and very sexy, spy—quite literally. After all, she still has a pair of fluffy pink handcuffs going to waste…
As for keeping off her family’s radar… That’s a matter of survival. It wasn’t easy growing up in the London Mob. Especially when your father is a certified psychopath who enjoys inflicting pain. So she ran. Totally understandable, right?
Unfortunately, her sticky hacker fingers got the better of her before she escaped, and she helped herself to all the information on her family she could find. On reflection, maybe not her smartest move. While she saw this information as insurance, her father viewed it as motivation to find her—hence her current predicament.
Her family has found her. And they don’t care who they have to kill to get her back.
Because of Elle, her team at Benson Security has gone into hiding. Mobsters are hunting her and willing to hurt anyone who might get in their way. And the cops and every other law enforcement agency on the planet are desperate to get hold of her and turn her into a witness against her family.
Oh yeah, and remember the spy who’s been teasing her for years? Well, he’s back too.
And he’s brought along a whole heap of secrets of his own.
*** This is a standalone novel. You don't have to have read any other books in the series to enjoy it. ***
Janet grew up in Scotland but now lives in New Zealand. Among other things, she’s been an artist, a teacher, a security guard at a castle, a magazine editor, and a cleaner in a drop in center for drug addicts (NOT the best job!). When she isn’t living in her head and writing about the people she finds there, she raises two kids, one husband, and several random animals. She survives on chocolate and caffeine.

I’ve waited years for this book and it did NOT disappoint! We didn’t know much about Elle or David before this book- other than that she is spunky, funny, and full of life, and he’s a complete hot af mystery who Elle is obsessed with. This book dove in deep to finally tell us who they are and what their histories are, and it was so good! I never saw it coming! And David’s first scene hooked us from the start. I love that the action and comedy start early!
I love all of Janet’s books (if this is the first one you’ve stumbled across- know that there is a whole world of them waiting for you to enjoy!), but the different books have different…hmm…feels? Flavors? Anyhow- this one reminded me more of Reckless (Megan’s book) as far as feelings go, and I’ve been missing that lately. It was exactly what I wanted for Elle’s story. All the casual mentions of other characters we’ve met (including how the mob is scared to attack Invertary and why) and other references to past events were hilarious.
Elle is a strong protagonist in her own right, and all the geek references are added perfectly so they seem believable and realistic. When she leans on David- it doesn’t cheapen her strength at all, which a lot of books tend to do. I love the strong women in these books! David is also strong and exactly who Elle needs in a significant other, but he’s also kinda broken. I love the logical way they worked through their issues. We’ve known that their chemistry was off the charts for forever now, and seeing them finally get together was what we’ve all needed to get in the spirit this upcoming Christmas season. Or if you’re in the US, it’s one more thing to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. :D
Where I still think this author shines is in the believable conversation, banter, and relationships. When these characters talk to each other- it doesn’t seem canned or trite. It feels REAL. The more I read, the more I realize how uncommon that is. I didn’t just read this book- I fell into it and ran around with these characters for a few hours. And as this is the sixth book in the series (plus more if you count the Invertary series where we met Lake), it felt like hanging out with good friends I haven’t seen in awhile but have inside jokes with. I loved every second.
For the record: If Epilogue 2 hadn’t been in the book, I would have filed a formal complaint. Read the book and you’ll be on my side with this one. Also, I want to see more of Ms. Patel.
10 ⭐️. It’s as good as 2 books! First let me say that if you haven’t read any of Janet Elizabeth Henderson’s books, why not? However, this is a standalone book. I’m sure after you’ve read it you will want to read all of the previous books and find out about all of the characters that are in this book. Elle is the geek of the Team. She talks pop-culture, wears outrageous outfits and has blue hair…or sometimes pink…or green. She is the backbone of the Benson Security intelligence portion of the security firm and has been cyber-tracking an elusive spy-type white knight for the past two years, since he and a team assisted Benson Securities in Peru. This book is in parts hilarious, heart-thumping, tear-jerking, pulse-pounding, heart-warming, romantic and suspenseful right to the very end; an always entertaining, damn fine piece of writing. The Benson Team is now a family and I love them all. God help anybody who messes with any of them. Written by a master storyteller. In my review for her last book I said “Now here’s the problem. How are you ever going to top that?” Well, she did. Well done Janet. Well done!
The book I’ve been waiting for, after getting snippets of Elle and David throughout other Benson Security books we finally get the whole story and boy did it live up to expectations!
Janet has a unique ability to weave action and suspense with charm and humour like no other. The story draws you in from the beginning and leaves you wanting more with the epilogues. I cried actual tears when it was over, I’m now impatiently awaiting the next book in the series!
Every character is well thought out, the throwbacks and mentions to events of past books and characters we know and love add a special charm to the story that make you feel part of it. Janet has a special ability to hook you in and leave you wanting more while still feeling immensely satisfied with the story.
I have been waiting for this book for a long time. The small teasers that have been given in other books in the Benson Security Series have hinted at this story for what feels like forever.
We finally have Elle and David's story. Yay!!
Elle is an hacker who runs on caffeine, sugar and seems to have the attention span of a 3 year old. I absolutely love her. David is a spy who Elle has been trying to track down since the first time they met. He's been popping in to her life and warning her out of his for years. But in her time of need he is one of the first people who comes running to her aid.
Elle's real identity has been discovered and it puts her and her team at risk. Benson Security are there to help fight for one of their own. This book is filled with lots of twists and turns, heartbreak and fun. For me this book was an emotional rollercoaster and none of the characters are safe. We finally find out why David is the way that he is and to be completely honest Elle is definitely the only girl for him..... although she forgives him way to easily, I think its the attention span thing.
Out of all of Janet's books I have found the Benson Security Series my favourite. My only draw back is that although the book is set in the UK every now and again American words are used for English objects e.g chips instead of crisps. Did wonder for a second when someone had been to the chippy lol. but that being said it does not take away from the main body of the story.
I received an ARC copy of this book in return for an honest review.
You know that feeling of anticipation you get when you’re waiting for something you hope will be wonderful and magical but you have no guarantees, which doesn’t matter? Because. You. Just. Can’t. Wait. And then that magical wonderful thing happens and it’s even better than you thought it would be? That is what happened with RUN. This book was everything and more.
Elle has been a fairly central character of the Benson Security Books pretty much since the beginning but I didn’t realize until we got her story just how much we didn’t know about her. She is brilliant, and bad ass, and funny—so funny—but in this book we get to see her depth. She has insecurities and deep feelings. She’s had to protect herself and her soft inner core from people who would try to exploit her and we see her growth through the book.
David is the perfect hero. He has skills. I’m not going to give spoilers but when we first see him in this book he is chained by hands and feet and being beaten. Within just a few paragraphs, he’s managed to get out of bonds, kill the people who are torturing him, and put in calls to protect Elle, whom he’s learned may be in danger. He spends so much of his time trying to stay away from Elle while also doing all he can to make sure she’s safe and comfortable. And they are adorable together.
The book is fast paced and action packed from the very beginning. There are so many laugh out loud funny moments, gut wrenching sad moments, sweet and sexy times. OH, and we get to visit with all of the main characters (except Isobel) from the previous books. And it all just feels so real. I have always liked Ryan’s character but now I love him. His and Elle’s friendship was so much fun to witness, and if the hint at the end means he gets a book next, well sign me up because I’m in.
I truly can’t recommend this book enough. I read it in two days and will be reading it again this weekend just so I can spend time some leisurely enjoying it. I tend to enjoy books best when they have humor, heat and heart and this book has all three to the maximum degree. I loved it.
I received this as an ARC book and was asked to give an unbiased review.
Wow, what a roller coaster of emotions! What an awesome story! There is just so much going on. Just wow. Can’t wait for the next instalment.
I have read all of Janets books and this did not disappoint. David and Elle’s story had been slowly being hinted at in quite a few prior books. But, this is amazing. There is drama, intrigue, and romance ,as always in Janet’s books. This story took me on a roller coaster of emotions: laughter, fear, sadness, happiness and hope. I need a break from any reading for the rest of the day!
Elle and David’s story is a masterpiece of storytelling. We find out their background stories and how that will shape their future together.
Janet has a knack of drawing you into the story. I can see and feel how her characters interact together. She truely is a master storyteller.
I hope the next instalment of Benson Security is Ryan’s story, after all, this ends with him.
WOW! JEH is my favourite for a reason. I got the book late in the evening and knew that it would be a night of no sleep. My husband rolled over at 2am and saw me with my book in hand and just said, oh you’re not done that book yet eh? Snoring continued….the soundtrack of my read! I love her cast of misfit characters. Everyone brings something unique to the story line. Some have secret pasts and are “broken” in some ways but they find their fixes with each other, their family of choice vs birth. There was humour, some anxiety, suspense, fear, and shock! Oh the shocks…. The Benson team is always impressive and despite their quirks, always come together to get the job done.
Janet has been building this story for some time and woven the nuggets into so many previous stories - we’ve all been waiting for Elle and David to have their moment! THANK YOU JEH for giving it to us! I mean them! No really, it was for us.
I won’t write any spoilers here - just that THANK GOODNESS there was an Epilogue 2. I can’t wait for the next one.
I’m trying to lower my heart rate after finishing this book. The wait for Ellie and David’s story was so worth it! Janet Elizabeth Henderson has the ability to write books full of laughter and some sorrow but they always end with hope. This one is no different, it’s fast paced and filled with characters that are good, bad and questionable, yet human. Ellie has always been such a bubbly personality with amazing computer hacking skills but her obsession with David and leaving clues for him in dark web chatrooms brings her past to her doorstep. I have to say it’s not a past I imagined but holy action Batman! David the super spy contractor is even more amazing than I imagined and he surpassed any and all expectations. I can’t wait for the next one! And i’ll finish this by saying if that second epilogue hadn’t happened i’d be a complete mess right now.
Benson security is a family by choice, each offering something unique to the team and when one of them needs help they all rally around and support. This time the whole team is at risk because of one of them and the threat has never been more real.
Run is everything and more. We have watched the slow flirtation of David and Elle in previous books and have been anticipating their own story for some time now and boy did JEH deliver. This one hits you on so many levels, because JEH really brings her characters alive. The quick witty banter the intense struggles and heart breaks that leave you will goose bumps. Finally we get to learn what Elle has been running from for so long and why David kept popping up in her life.
I could count on two hands, authors who's books I have read everything they have written and at the top of that list is JEH. I can not speak highly enough of this series or any of the others. It feels like catching up with friends when I pick up one of her books.
Run - to a quiet place you can read uninterrupted! Don’t start this book unless you have the time to marathon read it - you won’t be able to put it down! It’s packed with the sexy and the zany, all encompassed in an engrossing story with the adrenalin punch of “Speed” (movie reference). I can’t objectively state this is a great stand-alone HEA, mostly because I have all the books in the series and they are all fantastic, but also because the character backgrounds do play into the story a bit. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t read it, then go back and read the rest to get caught up before you reread it to capture more of the nuances! I received a free ARC copy of the book and am giving my honest review.
Any book by Janet Elizabeth Henderson is a given for me. I love how characters appear in other books & series. My first series by Ms Henderson was the Invertary series where we meet Lake Benson & the start of Benson Security. Fast forward to "Run". Elle& David's story. We meet Elle in earlier books, she is full of energy, has luminous blue hair, a brilliant mind & is a computer genius. She meets David when he helps out the Benson team in previous book. Sparks fly between them. David becomes a mystery Elle feels she must solve. In "Run" we discover that Elle is running from a dark, scary past that catches up to her while she's trying to find David. David is for sure mysterious, very capable & can't seem to stay away from Elle. Thank goodness!! Those familiar with Ms Henderson's world know that the characters we meet in all her books are believable, personable, funny, mean, grumpy. But they come together as not just a team but family. This book was funny, suspenseful, heartbreaking & sad. I highly recommend it. I have already preordered this book & but received an ARC for my honest review.
Good, no make that great, things come to those that wait!! This book is incredible! There is a reason Janet Elizabeth Henderson is my favorite author. Her writing style is wonderful. Reading this book I laughed, cried, used language I probably shouldn't have when reading about the baddies and cheered when warranted. I became invested in the well developed characters and no offense to Callum but I have developed a bit of a crush on David as well!! So much excitement in this book!! As usual, Janet Elizabeth Henderson wrote a totally awesome book! She has serious talent!!
OMG! How can these books keeping getting better? I fall in love with all her characters, but David and Ellie have a story like no other. The chemistry started for these two long before their story exploded on the pages of Run and as a huge fan of JEH I am one happy reader! Totally worth the wait to see how this relationship would all unfold.
You know that book that the author keeps hinting about and it seems like it takes forever when it comes out. Well, this is that book for me. It seems like we waited forever for David and Elle’s story. This story was action packed and captures you with the first chapter and doesn’t stop. I was definitely not disappointed and it was well worth the wait. David is mysterious and scared to let anyone in but wants to protect Elle by keeping her close to him. Elle is a sweet computer genius that loves using references from geeky shows and is frustrated by David giving her mixed signals. The time spent together arguing, talking, and flirting makes them realize that they just might work but will it be too late? If you are looking for a book, that has it all than look no further. This book has you laughing out loud, biting your nails, yelling at it, crying, and any other emotion you can have. The words bring you in and make you feel like you are a part of it. The characters are enduring, captivating, charming, and so magnetic you can’t help but be sucked in. Keeps you interested from beginning to end and making you want more. You are exhausted after reading with all the emotions and not sleeping to finish it. You must Run not walk to get this book it will be well worth it. I received this book for my honest opinion.
Darn you Janet…it’s 5:00 a.m.!!! I couldn’t put this book down. You ran me through every emotion. It’s a great book.
Elle is a computer geek/hacker with pink Doc Martens and blue hair that you can’t help but love. She’s quirky, sassy, and is in hiding from her family…for good reason. She’s no push over and has been on the run for three years. She is currently working for Benson Security. She has been searching relentlessly for David (an irresistible, secretive, gorgeous spy (?) who keeps popping in and out of her life. He tells her to stop searching for him because it’s dangerous, but what fun is that! She knows she should leave it alone but can’t.
David has been secretly keeping Elle alive for three years…not that she knows that. He is drawn to her, believes he has no business getting involved, but she keeps at him relentlessly and he just can’t resist.
Will these two save each other? You will need to read this book to find out. I promise you will not be sorry and you will not be able to put it down. Be sure to read to the very last page!
If you are not a reader of The Benson Series, treat yourself. Start with Run and work backwards. If you are a fan of the series, then you have been waiting for this story. Bright, sunny, geek, hacker extraordinaire Elle has been key to the Benson Security company from the beginning but we didn’t know much about her. Well, Run is her story. Other books in the series have hinted at a troubled past and in this book, it comes to a crashing crescendo. And, we get to meet mystery man David. Finally! Henderson’s writing gift is her crackling dialogue and Run delivers in spades. Fast, snarky and fun. Laugh out loud funny. And, believable. The characters treat each other like family with all the teasing and insulting that ensues. While I read the Benson books for the characters, Run is the same as the rest of the series in that it is a solid story told in a style that holds you until the last page. They are a security company and they deal with the bad guys. Henderson does not shy away from the ugly, gruesome realities of the criminal underworld and Run’s story holds you with grit and suspense. Spies, criminals, hackers, rich CEO’s, crooked cops, safe houses and steamy romance. What’s not to love? RUN!

This one was definitely worth the wait! Elle and David have been circling each other for years, and I have had tons of questions about them. I was dying to know their backstories and how they would finally get together. Because there are so many surprises in this book, all I can really say is that I got all my questions answered in most satisfactory ways. It was terrific to be back with the team again!
Run is finally here! I’ve waited so long to read Elle & David’s story & to catch up with the rest of the Benson Security team. There is so much heart, laughter, stress, heartbreak, & hope in this book. Take a hacker and a spy, add organized crime, pop culture references, blood families, chosen families, loyalty, and love and you have Run - a story only Janet Elizabeth Henderson could have given us.
Yet another great installment in the Benson Security series! Elle is a computer specialist, and has a secret past we have only gotten glimpses of in other books. David is the super sexy man of mystery that pops into other Benson stories to get Elle’s blood pumping and offer assistance on occasion. This is their story and it doesn’t disappoint. Elle has run into a bit of trouble and it has bled over onto the other members of her team and now they are all on the run. David is the only person who can help them. With explosions, bullets flying, bad guys, high emotions and a team in crisis David and Elllie Blue realize that they are made for each other and this is their story. I sat at the end of my seat, laughed and cried while reading this book. Benson Security is the type of place you wish you could work, and that the operatives were your co-workers. All of the characters are well developed and have their own distinct personalities. The Benson Security team is a family and that fact is very evident in this story. You can’t help but feel for these characters throughout the series, but this story even more so. I can’t wait for book #7.
I loved this book!! Fast action and fantastic characters!! Like a James Bond movie but better!! I couldn't stop reading it! Even if you haven't read any of Janet's other books it will make you want to!
WOW, what a ride. Fantastic story, worth the wait. I cried and laughed and was at the edge of my seat. You outdid yourself this time. I loved it. Am now going to re read them all. Love Benson security. To anyone that hasn't read them do yourself a favour and read them. Wonderful
I have just finished this wonderful book and all I can think right now is WOW! I'm still reeling from from the events, the intensity, the action, the romance, the humour. Janet's writing is and always has been a thing of beauty, and Run may be her greatest masterpiece yet!
Run is edge of your seat suspense from the get go, and my nerves are in shreds in the best way possible from the wonderful adventure I have been taken on from the moment Elle's alarm went on her computer in Chapter 1. My emotions have been on a bungee jump of their very own as the emotional ties I have developed for these charters in the last six books, more so for certain secondary characters, have been stretched to the limit. These people who are so real they almost leap from the page and drag the reader into their wonderful team have lead me to feel joy, fear, heartbreak, euphoria, delight, relief and at times so much amusement I couldn't even breathe, all in the pages of Run.
It was so wonderful after many teasing mentions and ghost like glimpses to finally meet David properly, he is everything I hoped he would be and more. Elle I just love, her character is a ray of light who makes me grin every time she appears in a scene. Her interactions with the team in this book made me literally laugh out loud on several occasions, before the action and suspense drew me back in with a gasp.
I spent the entire reading of this book with a huge smile on my face. It has been a joy to have these beloved characters back again and since there's no way I can say goodbye to them already, I will shortly be off to do a re-read from the start. I could go on about this book all day, but know that if I did let myself do that I'll have to cover it with spoiler warnings, so I'll just say that it is AMAZING and leave it at that. While I haven't read it in that way, there is no reason Run couldn't be read as a standalone, although anyone planning to do so should be warned that they are likely to be so enthralled with Janet's writing that they go back and read all the bits they missed.
I was absolutely honoured to receive this book as an ARC before the release date, in exchange for my honest review. Having read it, there is no way I won't be buying my own copy on 18th November to add to my much loved and repeatedly read Janet Elizabeth Henderson collection.
I love, love, love the Benson Security books and I think every single one has gotten better! I’ve waited a long time for Elle and David’s story and I’d have to say that it went above and beyond my expectations! There was action, suspense, spies, the mob, gangs and I still found myself laughing at many parts in the story. I know it’s probably an American term, but you’ve hit another home run Janet!
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion but have also bought my own copy since I love the author and need to own all of her books.
Once again Janet Elizabeth Henderson has delivered a masterpiece. The characters are awesome the plot is gripping from the first page to the last , I couldn’t put it down and I suggest you give her books a go you won’t be disappointed they are Brilliant, Gripping,Funny and one read just isn’t enough
Where do I start??? I’ve read the whole series and loved every single one of them. Was super excited when this one came out and couldn’t wait to start…and it didn’t disappoint! I sat and binge read it. The whole this done over a few hours because, quiet simply…I couldn’t put it down! I was gripped from the moment I started. The characters are incredibly appealing and quite frankly I want a job in there. I’d be useless but hey, I can make tea and coffee so…Any way, I digress… I can honestly say that whilst reading “Run” I laughed (numerous times and often loudly, sorry sleeping husband!) I cried (much to the confusion of my 3 kids!) and quite frankly was disappointed with myself for reading it so quickly! I can not wait for the next one…please don’t make it too long a wait!!!!!!
This is one of those books that you just don’t want to stop reading. It is part of the Benson Security series but could be a stand alone (but it will make you want to read the rest).
We have waited for the HEA for Elle and David for years. This anticipation can sometimes make it hard for the real thing to be as good as you envisioned. This is even better than I envisioned! JEH has the ability to write action infused with romance and comedy. The characters are people you wish you knew.
The action was nonstop while also developing depth within Elle and David. You understand where they come from and how they have grown.
Run to your favorite bookseller and get this book! It will not disappoint. I would say it’s my favorite JEH book but I say that about every new release from JEH so I may not be the most reliable in that area.
Disclaimer: An eARC was provided by The Author in exchange for an honest review. The Thoughts, opinions & feelings expressed in the review are therefore, my own.
Do ya’ll have any idea how long I have been waiting for this book? It feels like I have died and been reborn a million times before I got my hands on the eARC of this book!!
But the wait was worth it! A thousand times over!
Okay; before I move forward with the review: This is the 6th book in the Benson Security series; and though can be read as standalone – why would you want to? If you haven’t already picked up JEH’s books – you are missing out on something very special; and by special I mean, a collection of books that are hilarious, action packed and smack dab full of romance; all in the perfect balance that you just can’t help but binge read!
And, now coming to the actual review – I really want to speak about each and every aspect of all that happens in the book in detail – but I can’t because HELLO! SPOILERS!
But I can tell you something; Elle and David, two brilliantly crafted characters, whom you can’t help but root for; and that’s exactly what we have been doing ever since both of them were introduced in the series! Elle, a spunky, full of life and absolutely courageous is a heroine that you just can’t help wanting to be best friends with and David; the hot mysterious spy, who has caught Elle’s attention and imagination – and not to mention their attraction *phew! Fans herself*
Like all of the author’s books – Run is not just Elle and David’s book but also the Benson Security’s book – the secondary characters who are the epitome of the found family trope – and their connection with each other is not just that of colleagues but also that of loyalty, comrades, and a deep seated friendship that will have you wondering if and when you would find your own gang of misfits!
Trust me, if you have ever picked any books on my recommendations and love reading romances; then Janet Elizabeth Henderson is an author that should be on top of your favourites list!
This book is part of a fabulous series by Janet Elizabeth Henderson & I usually wait with bated breath between her books because they always leave you wanting more!!!!! Run did not disappoint - another amazing story which made me laugh & cry but also sit on the edge of my seat. It is the perfect mix of funny, sad, romantic, intense and suspenseful. I really enjoyed the development of the main characters who we have seen snippets of in the other books in this series. I think Elle is one of my favourites - with her intelligence, determination, self belief and wee quirks, she is very entertaining, but all the characters are engaging & I particularly love the sarcastic banter of which there is plenty. Another fab book from one of my favourite authors - please keep writing Janet.
I love all of Janets books they never fail to disappoint but run was in a category Of it’s own This book can be read on its own as a standalone but why would you want to All of Jannet‘s books are amazing but this I have to say it’s something that you just don’t want to put down, eyes closing so tiered but you just need to find out David and Elle story has been hinted at for awhile and didn’t fail to disappoint There is so much I could say about the book but would hate to spoil it for some body’s reading pleasure what can I say except buy the book and if you haven’t read all of Janets other books by then as well you won’t be disappointed and you have discovered my new favourite author
This book isn't just named Run because that's what the character has been doing, it's telling you to Run out and get it. I've feel like I've been waiting forever for this book and I was not disappointed. The hype is real. This book is about a awesome geeky Star Wars loving hacker and her Knight in shining armor spy. She has been in hiding for years and he has been silently watching over her. Now the time for running is over and he will do whatever he has to do to protect her. This is a standalone book with a HEA but be ready to want to find and devour the others in the series as soon as your done and be hooked like the rest of us on Janet's books forever.
