"Not since the feud between the Hatfields and Mccoys, has anyone made a bunch of hillbillies interesting, and that’s just what Phillip Duncan did with Moonshine Wizard." -- Jason Fedora, The Truth of BetrayalMagic and moonshine.Waylon ‘Bert’ Drake is a wizard and a moonshiner. Neither pays well, but he gets by doing the occasional odd job or selling a jar.Growing up learning magic, he dreamed of the day he and his wizard buddies would save the world. But his friends all grew up. Bert didn’t, and there’s not much world to save in the quiet Ozarks. That all changes when a dark wizard shows up and makes a simple Bert will find a mysterious object for him, or the sorcerer will kill Bert and everyone he cares about. Only, this prick isn’t the only one after the treasure. Several other dark entities want the same thing… And for some reason, they all got it in their heads that Bert should find it for them.If that ain’t bad enough, none of these jerk wads seem to know exactly what the object is. Phillip Drayer Duncan is not to be missed." -- J.H. Fleming, Rhythms of Magic
Phillip Drayer Duncan has written over ten novels and is the only author who has ever sponsored a racecar…probably. His work has been published by Yard Dog Press, Pro Se Productions, Seventh Star Press, and Happy Omega Publishing.
Along with reading and writing, he enjoys kayaking, fishing, video games, and telling bad jokes. Phillip’s natural habitats include the rivers and lakes of the Ozarks, but he may also be spotted at a con or concert. During the cold season, he hibernates beneath a pile of books and video games. He is generally an approachable creature; however, it’s best to give him snacks to ensure he won’t bite. Cookies are best.
His earliest books were acted out with action figures and scribbled into notebooks. Today, he uses a computer like a real grownup, though he refuses to act his age the rest of the time. If it would pay his bills, he’d be playing with G.I. Joes right now.
His greatest dream in life is to become a Jedi, but since that hasn’t happened yet, he focuses on writing and eagerly awaits the next season of Firefly. He demanded we mention that he is a best smelling author.
This is a fast paced exciting story. The main character is good guy with a good heart wanting to do the right thing. Unfortunately doing the right thing leads to trouble, deadly trouble, over and over again. If you like wizards you'll like this character. It gets a bit bloody but that's what happens with death and destructive forces on opposing sides. Throw in some flawed characters and you've got a great story, which this is definitely! I'll be waiting for books that's for sure!
There is a lot packed into this story. Magic, mystery, monsters and a whole lot more. At times horror with comedic overtones, this is an urban fantasy that is also about friends and taking a stance. The "evil" magical organizations are downright scary.
