“This book is medicine for anyone who wants to free their mind, body, and soul from the past.” ― Dr. Joe Dispenza, New York Times bestselling author of You Are the Placebo and Becoming Supernatural
Mary Firestone survived the unthinkable. In 2018, she lived through the Montecito mudslide that dropped 200 million gallons of rainfall in 15 minutes, washing away her home. Trapped alone in her bathroom while pregnant, not sure if her husband and four-year-old son were still alive, she wasn’t thinking that her trauma was a gift in disguise. Yet, as she began her journey to healing, this is exactly what she discovered.
If you’ve experienced trauma―whether through the helpless terror of a life-altering event or through the subtle victimization of an ongoing hardship―it might feel as if the very foundation of your well-being has been irreparably shaken. Yet we now know that trauma, when healed and integrated, can in fact make us more resilient and dynamic. With Trusting the Dawn , Mary Firestone presents an inspirational guide for turning our traumas into the very things that crack open a new, intangible, rapturous, magical dimension of life.
Throughout the book , Firestone draws from both her own healing journey and her background in clinical psychology to offer a radical, integrative handbook for not only healing from trauma but awakening to even more empowerment, joy, and meaning because of your experiences. Stories of triumphant survival and interviews with experts bring to life an extensive resource guide and holistic tool kit filled with pathways to healing, including reframing with language, energy and movement practices, acupuncture, aromatherapy, breathwork, and more
Trusting the Dawn is an invitation to see that you are more complex, multidimensional, connected, and powerful not in spite of what you’ve been through but because of what you’ve endured.
This is an excellent, informative, and very relatable book about dealing with trauma; how to process it, how to move past it, and how to grow because of it. While written for trauma survivors, it would be equally helpful for those who care about someone who has been traumatized.
Offering stories of her own survival as well as several others, the book presents a variety of situations from a "been there" perspective. Equally helpful is the detailed information she gives about several different types of healing modalities, many of which I'd never heard of before.
My copy is full of highlights and bookmarks, a testament to how helpful I found this book!
My thanks to Sounds True for allowing me to read an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley. The book is scheduled for publication 8/23/22. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and are freely given.
Holy cow is this one a must for anyone who has experienced trauma or in any kind of relationship with someone coping with trauma. Thoroughly researched and well-organized into categories that are easy to access and refer back to. I was gifted an electronic arc from Sounds True (publisher) and realize I need a physical copy to dog ear and write in. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and someone who has been in therapy most of my adult life, I learned alternate forms of therapy that I had not heard of before. How great is that?!
This is a fabulous book for anyone wanting post-traumatic growth. Firestone is vulnerable and practical about the road to recovery and thriving. An excellent read for those interested in living a fully alive life.
After my daughter died, I was desperate for a book that gave me tools to try. This is exactly what I needed and I now gift it to anyone facing grief or trauma.
