This short book, which could have been a magazine article, presents weekly affirmations especially for empaths: "positive statements to counter fears, self doubts, anxieties, and negative stories that replay in your mind." The author says that "affirmations are like friends you can call on when you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or stuck in negative thinking." Thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher for the ARC.
This book immediately caught me interest with affirmations that seemed like just the sort of thing I need to hear. I would use this in a journal format, and will purchase when it is released. Highly recommended if you feel you are an Empath and could use a gentle voice reminding you to center and to take care of yourself as well as you take after others. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Thoughts
This isn't a storybook but a guided journal with affirmations. I enjoyed reading these affirmations and wrote some of them onto my phone and journal.
One con of this guided journal was the association to the term "empaths" because I personally felt it could be unrelatable. An empath can be understood as "having the ability to understand the experiences and feelings of others outside of your own" but what if the individual picking up this book doesn't have the ability to do so, will this journal not cater to them then? I felt that it was very streamlined towards a particular audience.
Another con was the journal questions, it was repeated throughout the book. There are 8 different parts to this journal but the questions didn't change accordingly which defeats the purpose of the journal.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sounds True for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. The very first oracle card deck I purchased was written by Judith Orloff. It is a trusted source of wisdom for me. So when I saw this new book she had written I knew I had to read it. The book is filled with 52 affirmations, meant to be read weekly, followed by three journaling prompts for each question. If you buy the actual book copy you will be able to journal your feelings and reflections directly into the book. I had the ebook but the questions are still listed for each affirmation and would be easy to transfer to one's own journaling notebook. Several of the affirmations really resonated with me and I will be returning to them regularly. I found an underlying them of surrender in these affirmations that I sincerely appreciated.
If you are an Empath, make sure you check out the author’s other books. This one is a guided journal and is a nice way to take what you’ve learned and really make it stick.
There are affirmations throughout the book. The first prompt after each is why is this affirmation important to me? After that are other prompts such as: As a sensitive person, how can my life specifically benefit from making this shift?
This journal is a good way to write out your feelings about being an empath.
I really liked this book, against all odds (ie: I do not find the term “empaths” useful). This book doesn’t even really define what it means by ‘empaths’, and often what they mean is something more like “autistic” or even just “sensitive to stimuli” (see the Highly Sensitive Person diagnosis, which in my unprofessional opinion is just autism or even PTSD). This book is set up as a journal, so it introduces an affirmation and then it has several pages for journaling with small prompts. I find this really helpful because the number 1 problem I have with “try telling yourself an affirmation” is that I feel like all affirmations either feel fake or I can’t come up with my own. I also liked that a lot of these affirmations can count as goals for a week, such as “I tune in to my energy level throughout the day. I know how I am feeling and respect my body’s needs”. This affirmation feels Particularly Autistic to me: “I empower myself as an empath every time I decrease stimulation in the face of sensory overload.” Some of these feel a little, uhh, weird to me, such as “My natural empathy makes my body, mind, and spirit, strong and resilient.”, especially because I think you could replace “natural empathy” with literally anything else, but also if you picked up this book you know what I signed up for. I personally will be replacing it with ‘my autism’ or ‘my self’. Four stars.
“Affirmations help you reprogram outdated beliefs.”
This little book packs a lot of wisdom into its pages. It contains 52 affirmations to read over, repeat and journal about throughout the year (or however you choose to do it), and covers areas such as relationships, emotions, self care and more. The affirmations are mostly short and to the point, which makes them easier to remember and repeat. I also appreciate the fact that the three journaling prompts, while they are the same for each affirmation, are concise and help you get right to the heart of why each affirmation is important, how to put it into practice and how each one can positively affect your life and outlook. There is also not a strict structure - you can traditionally journal, you can draw your answers, put colours to feelings. You can do as much or as little as you would like in terms of creativity, and it really allows for a fun and unexpected experience. While not every affirmation may resonate, I feel that there is enough variety here that there are some in each section of the book for everyone. If you are a sensitive person, or even someone who deeply cares for others and sometimes needs a little bit of help taking care of yourself, I definitely recommend this book.

Affirmations for Empaths is a self-help book by Judith Orloff. This book offers a year’s worth of affirmations and serves as a personal journal. Affirmations for Empaths is made up of 8 parts. Some parts include treasuring yourself, nurturing vitality, creating wellness, and more.
In each part, Orloff shares an affirmation followed by 3 questions. Orloff leaves an entire page for the reader to answer what this affirmation means to them and how their life can benefit from it. My only critique about this book is that the same 3 questions appeared for the entirety of this book, which is 248 pages. Since this book is in 8 parts, I had hoped the questions would change according to the topic. For example, questions relating to balancing emotions, building healthy relationships, discovering purpose and work, etc. Because of this, I didn’t feel like I could connect to it on a deeper level. Also, the colors in this book were grey and muddled, but I believe that may have been an issue with the eARC.
If you’re looking for a short and simple self-help book, Affirmations for Empaths may be for you. It serves as a great reminder that everything is energy and you can redirect it towards building better habits. Thank you to NetGalley and Sounds True for a copy of this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
As an Empath and HSP, I love Dr. Orloff's work. I own many of her books including the Empath's Empowerment Journal. Her work has helped me so much over the years. I think many empaths can relate to this ... when I read her books I feel as if though she knows me intimately like a best friend yet I've never met her. I was thrilled to receive a copy of her new journal. It is filled with affirmations that are specific to Empaths around treasuring yourself, vitality, wellness, balancing emotions, building healthy relationships, life purpose, intuition, and finding sanctuary. What I really appreciate is that she gives practical tips on how to incorporate this journal into your daily life. Each affirmation includes prompts to help you identify what limiting beliefs you have around the affirmation as well as ample space to journal about this. I think this journal is a very practical tool to help Empaths make positive, lasting changes in their lives. It is a tool I'll definitely be using daily.
I am incredibly grateful to have received an uncorrected proof from NetGalley in return for my honest review. Thank you to Dr. Orloff and her publisher for this wonderful opportunity.
Empaths typically take on the feelings and emotions of others. This task can be quite exhausting and overwhelming. Therefore, it is important for an empath to put him/herself first and think about his/her needs, feelings, and healthy habits. Judith Orloff, has provided an amazing tool for an empath to use on a daily basis. Affirmations can be powerful for everyone. Affirmations for empaths provides 52 weekly affirmations, as well, as space for journaling. The following topics are explored: treasuring yourself, nurturing vitality, creating wellness, balancing emotions, building healthy relationships, discovering purpose and work, honoring intuition, and finding sanctuary. I highly recommend this book. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance review copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I have worked with affirmations for many years, but I have never specifically focused on affirmations for the empathic side of myself. I found the authors newest book enlightening, engaging, and nurturing to my spirit. There are many suggestions at the beginning for ways to use affirmations that I have never thought of, and the affirmations themselves spoke to my life‘s journey and I will be using many of them going forward.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I think this book is something that every empath is going to relate to. This book or journal if I can say is filled with affirmations that are there to support the Empaths as they find it tough to settle in the world that derives with selfishness. What I really liked about this book is that if felt like having a friend you never had and it is trying to find a balance between theoretical and practical. I want to thank the author, the publisher and NetGallery for sending the uncorrected proof from NetGalley in return for my honest review.
A beautiful look though how to utilize your inner light in life and how to make your life brighter. Pun intended. Journal prompts to guide you through the seasons. I felt like this book SPOKE to me. I always felt I was an empath. This book validated and walked me through how to get though it. Highly recommend. Especially loved the reflection to true life to humanize my feelings and relate. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I'm enjoying the journal prompts in Affirmations for Empaths. I like having enough space to fully answer them for myself. These journal prompts are so powerful and also simple. A useful guide for this year ahead.
Other reviewers felt that the questions repeated too much, BUT I find that this allows for going really deep into my heart. I can feel the miracles rising up as I write!
What a great, gentle angle on the affirmations realm. It's not easy to make a focus that has had so many incarnations fresh and inspiring, but Orloff has done it well here. A nice, easy book to keep on your bedside, or in your bag, to give you a pop of understanding or support when you need it. I liked the smooth flow of it, and it goes on my gift shopping list for these holidays. I know a lot of empaths who would love this one.
This guided journaling devotional is a great tool for sensitive souls and helping to work with these gifts for themselves and how they relate to others. I think it would be very helpful empaths and look forward to working through the book over the coming year. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.
I received an ebook version via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This is a lovely little journal of affirmations concerning empaths. I like the suggestion to choose one affirmation per week that you focus on daily during that week. Personally, I would use the affirmations as an inspiration to create my own simplified version. I wish there were a space in the layout to include my daily thoughts and experiences for each day of the week but there is definitely space to do that without being prompted. I appreciate the Quick reference guide provided to be able find an affirmation efficiently.
I liked the premise of the book. I believe that it is beneficial and would be helpful for those that use it. I liked the prompts and I was able to engage in the book.
I love the art in all of these pages. Journaling and art i feel just go together. I love the space to express exactly what im feeling. Easy to follow along with.
Thought-provoking aphorisms with space for journaling about each one - very useful. However, I do wish Orloff would've included a blurb with each one just explaining a bit about why she included it and what it meant in the context of being an empath or hyper-sensitive person, to help kickstart the thought process or provide some perspective.
When I saw Affirmations for Empaths I was very intrigued. I have always considered myself to be very empathetic and I really like guided journals. I have a “Question a Day” journal but have been wanting something more than a prompt for just a three lined answer. This seemed to be the perfect fit for a new journaling practice.
However, I was sadly let down. I know this is marketed as a guided journal so maybe my expectations were too high for the content, but I have written homework assignments that were more words than this. I would have thought an introduction more than 500 words was warranted for a publishing but apparently not. It just felt like no effort was put into this at all.
The introduction does not even define what an empath is. You may think it self explanatory but in my research elsewhere there is much to what is considered an empath that this book does nothing to clarify. There are a few lines about how positive affirmations can be and a general outline for how to use the journal but that is it.
Now I still gave it a chance and journaled one affirmation per week as it is intended for a couple of weeks. But I was not able to journal a whole week on the short sentence provided. Even the journal prompting questions are the same three questions for each affirmation. I’ve never read something so lazy!
The affirmations themselves are nice, but the first one is about being a “warrior empath”. What is a warrior empath?! It really would have been nice to have some more background information and content to go along with the journal prompt to have something to connect to while journaling. I would not be happy if I paid money for this but since I didn’t I’ll settle for one star and move on.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sounds True for an ARC of this book.
