Set in a dystopian world, a thousand years after a destructive comet hit the Earth and wiped off almost all the civilizations and histories, Leo, a sixteen year old boy has been enduring a horrible life inside a new man-made world named Kahon. It is a small metal place with a shape of a box and located underground.
He lives in the lower layer of Kahon where people who failed to be a variant are put to be slaves and served the nobles from the two upper layers. Being oppressed and maltreated by the commanders of their military government, he wishes to reach the upper layer, where he can find the way out to the Earth's surface. Until there is a strange girl who accidentally puts a capsule in his pocket. Unknowingly, it is an unexpected gift that can give him ability to wrestle against the fiendish society they have. But, along with that said ability, it can also release either truth or more lies in his world, depending on how he will use it and who will he believes in.
Project Pandora Krishmar Llorin March 19 2020, 04:05 PM Current Goodreads Rating: 3.44 Stars ⭐⭐⭐ My Rating: 3 Stars ⭐⭐⭐
What a waste of characters lalo na't interesting ang iba sa kanila.
The premise or the world is interesting. I am excited to read this book nung binili ko pero ewan... nadisappoint ako.
This book has a really good premise. It’s just that the writing style is not that good. It could also use some more editing because there are some inconsistencies and a lot of typographical errors.

Before starting off this review, I’d like to thank Dex for hosting this blog tour, Kirshmar Llorin, and Viva Books for the opportunity to review this work.
As an avid reader of dystopian-themed stories, Krishmar Llorin has managed to weave a unique tale that sets a new branch of literature for Philippine Fiction. The story’s set hundreds of years in the future after a comet had nearly driven humanity into extinction. Surviving humans managed to rebuild society within a man-made world known as ‘Kahon’. The story follows the life of Leo, a sixteen-year-old living in the lower layer of Kahon and his burning desire to taste freedom outside the maltreatment of the government he has known for years. After an incident between a mystery girl he had met during his daily tasks, Leo’s life takes a drastic turn that would lead him to find that the freedom he seeks comes with a price that could change everything he ever knew.
When I’ve first heard of this book, curiosity and intrigue were my first impressions. An out-of-the-box type of theme in the Philippine Literature scene, I was curious to know more about Project Pandora. Reading the story, much to the title’s giveaway, I’ve come to a pleasant surprise to find certain Greek influences, such as mythological figures and words that are given new meaning through the book. The overall story tackles topics such as the suffocating grip of the power of the ruling class over the poor, corruption, and cruelty.
Creating a dystopian trope certainly comes with challenges, and hitting the right marks to make it work. For me, Project Pandora had risen to the challenge, and Krishmar Llorin managed to put the foundation towards that level of intricate world-building. He managed to solidify a good caste-system and introduced the three layers, Bughaw, Hiraya, and Balwarte of Kahon. With all that said, Project Pandora definitely has the potential to be a great series for Filipino readers and a good starting point to the dystopian trope in local literature.
That said, going forward from the first book, I still felt that the world Llorin established needed room to further expand and grow. I’m very critical when it comes to a story’s character development. One thing I’ve noticed through the chapters was the uneven balance of portrayal toward the minor characters, and even the antagonists. While I followed Leo’s perspective into the book, I felt a bit disconnected from his personality. He has his moments of strong-willed beliefs and righteous-driven actions, but sometimes he thinks a lot more emotionally than logically. I ended up predicting what would happen next and hitting the mark on plot twists.
Overall, the book has so much potential within the Filipino book community. Project Pandora is one of those stories that are still a bit rough around the edges but can definitely be polished into an interesting story that could very well diversify the young-adult genre in the Philippines.
Knowing Project Pandora is in line of my interest and in category I’m definitely cheering for, I begin consuming this intriguing book that turns out have a promising new look of world-building, known as Kahon (Box in English), staging with different aspects of issues from political, survival, abused, hierarchy, and many more, and introducing an ordinary protagonist that will rise to meet his dream he has wished for from the moment he has been deprived of it. There are lots of things I can tell how this book grows but I might give many details. About how inventive the setting of the story, well, it takes resourceful and imaginative research for it to be satisfied and matched with the development of a story. With this book in my nation’s language, it really is rare to see the book tag in the dystopian category. Honestly, I’m fond of that genre and I’m looking forward to this the instant I read the synopsis of this book.
I’m proud this type of genre is seeking some attention to our local authors and dystopian is somewhat not used to Filipino literature (I get to admit this book is the first one I feel the vibes oozing perfectly). There is a collective impression I have when every scene I encounter feels like in the other books known to this. The lucky nobody. The revolution. The life and death scene. The sacrifices. The traitor. The truth and lie. I expect these things already I just wait with how the construction of this book will work and Llorin is indeed great in accomplishing Project Pandora. Llorin gives his creation a new stand to the local literature and clever inputs to his debut novel.
Even with the greatness of the book, I still see some flaws for it especially the obvious typos I found (though I know it is an eARC). It would be excellent if this book goes with good proofreading. Though I’m still amazed by everything I experience.
All in all, Project Pandora gives a new taste for Filipino fiction and one to stay in touch for the next installation. This is a good call for fans of dystopian and loving our own local books. I hope you grab this book soon to your nearest bookstores or purchase online.
Project Pandora is a dystopian novel written by Krishmar Llorin. It’s a rare thing for me to read a dystopian novel locally written, and just by looking at the cover art, it seems like an enjoyable read and my cup of tea. Project Pandora didn’t fail in presenting what a dystopian society looked like: information, independent thoughts and freedom are restricted, citizens are under strict surveillance, & futuristic setting. Although some elements are already common, the overall idea and concepts are still really cool and unique. It is intriguing.
Disclaimer: The author, in collaboration with Dexter [Dexterous_Totalous], has given me an e-copy of the book as part of a PH blog tour in exchange for an honest review. All opinion are mine and mine alone.
The concept of the book was highly interesting but everything was dragged down by the lackluster character development, questionable plot holes, and the too descriptive narration that could have been done with more concise than dragging.
This is a must read.
Great premise and idea, but the writing style and sentence construction sucks. I never cared about the characters. Megan is the only likeable character in this story and she's not that highlighted.
I found this novel very interesting and a fresh concept to our Philippine Literature. I even adore how this novel is written in filipino language. This is a one of a kind.
