Thank you to the author for gifting me an ebook ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book is set after the events of The Crowning series and does contain some major spoilers for her that series, so it is recommended to read that first. The Goddess of Blood and Bone can be read without having read the other series though there are some details of the world and lore set up that will be missed. Most importantly this book is adult and has some very steamy scenes!

Our protagonist is a character from the original trilogy who I wasn’t a fan of, so it took me a while to get used to the idea of our protagonist being who she was, however, Mason manages to show a different side of the character and by the end, I was definitely rooting for her! We get to see a lot more depth to the character, and her unending desire to survive is impressive. I enjoyed seeing the character's growth throughout the book, showing us that her time in the Pitts of Moor has really made her value that which she took for granted when she was alive.

Along with our protagonist, we also get a variety of other POVs which I really enjoyed. I like having the POVs of the three siblings though we predominantly get Nushka's POV as she is a leading character. The multi POVs give us an insight into the siblings’ perspectives and gives us a chance to understand why they made the decisions they did. It was great to understand the character's intentions and desires and how they felt about the outcome of the story.

I loved the concept of the story, and I found it very interesting having a story written largely from the villain’s point of view. It really lived up to the claim of dark adult fantasy! The settings were great and really gave us full details on the depravity and hellish life in the Pitt’s of Moor - which was ideal as I would’ve been disappointed if Mason had skipped all the gory details!

I really enjoyed the plot and I liked that the story wasn’t exactly black or white/ good vs bad, and whilst Nushka is definitely one I don’t think can’t be redeemed it was good to see how this played with other characters. The ending was explosive, and I am excited to see how the characters carry on from that and what their next moves will be. I’m very happy with how our protagonist ended up and loved getting the details in the epilogue!

Overall, the story was interesting and written from some very dynamic POVs, such a different tale from her previous trilogy so a great change of pace, and of course, the steam was excellent.

Many thanks to Nattie for sending me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love stories told from the villain’s point of view, especially when the villain is female, and TGOBAB contains TWO villainesses, both cunning and fierce.

I felt the action in the first half of TGOBAB was a slow burn, as much of this was spent world building and exploring the characters’ motives through multiple POVs - but to great effect. Nattie paints a picture of a hellish realm so realistic that I could feel the heat on my face and the four different POVs gives readers an insight into the relationship dynamics between the main characters. And once the action picks up in the second half, the climax is upon readers all too soon. Thank goodness for that epilogue! The NSFW scenes were hot and occurred organically within the narrative.

Although this new series connects to Nattie’s YA Fantasy series The Crowning, I was still able to read and enjoy TGOBAB without having read The Crowning first, thanks to Nattie’s incredible world building, especially in the prologue.

Thank you again to Nattie for allowing me to travel to the Pitts of Moor before the rest of the world! Looking forward to the sequel!

The Goddess of Blood and Bone is the first book in a new series by Australian Indie author Nattie Kate Mason. While this book follows on from her debut series The Crowning it is not essential to read it beforehand. There are some major spoilers for the first series though so if that is something that upsets you I would start with The Crowning. This book has made the move to the adult genre and I was beyond excited to see how Mason would develop in this new genre.

I am a massive fan of villains and The Goddess of Blood and Bone rewarded me with not one but two villains to fawn over! Our main protagonist was a feature in the original Crowning series and Mason did a wonderful job presenting another side of her character. She undergoes such growth throughout this novel and I am so glad we got the opportunity to see her develop.

The beginning of the novel sets out describing this new realm which was basically a hellscape. I LOVED IT! Once you hit the halfway mark the action intensifies and the pace really kicks it up a notch. It was a race to the finish and I adored that there was an epilogue.

There some sex scenes included in this novel and they flowed effortlessly and didnt seem forced at all.

The story is told from multiple POVs which is one of my favourite story techniques as it gives me a holistic experience of the characters and situations they find themselves in.

Overall, The Goddess of Blood and Bone was a wonderful dark adult fantasy. I enjoyed it immensely and can’t wait for more.

First of all, I was given an e-ARC of this gorgeous book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.
Second of all, uh WOW. Oh my gosh. This book. I was honestly a little concerned I wouldn't love it as much as some of the authors other books because the main character is a character I was not a fan of from The Crowning series. But did this change my mind!!! I was so worried for her at the end and I really wanted her to succeed!

The Goddess of Blood and Bone is a separate work to The Crowning series, but I would highly recommend reading them first - it's not necessary as such, but there are references to characters and places within The Crowning series that will serve as a nice 'easter egg' as such within the book. The other thing that is important to note, is that this one is definitely a dark New Adult book and not Young Adult like the previous series.

The world building was incredible, I loved the stories of the gods and their various realms and the intriguing characters we meet along the way. I highly recommend and I can't wait to see what comes next!

Also, that cover!! Absolutely incredible, and I can't wait to have a physical copy in my hands!

I was really happy to see my girl Agnes again. She was my favorite while reading the crowning series! I think it's better if you read that trilogy before reading this one for context specially since it would make Agnes journey more profound but i think it's ok if you read this one and later check the crowning series like a prequel.
I'm in love with Thorn, the god of war. I really like how Nattie portrayed a huge range of emotions through her deities. I find all of them fascinating and i can't wait to read more about Agnes, Nushka, Lilith and my beautiful god. The next book will be a crazy madness of power display; i can tell! and I'm truly excited about the story and to see how gorgeous the cover and tittle will be.

4.5 ⭐🖤

AGNUS! WHAT THE HELL, GIRL. If I could shout from a rooftop that I had a crush on Agnus and people would know who I'm talking about - I totally would. Following Agnus and her journey in the After Life was something I wasn't mentally prepared for. The hardships she has to overcome and the reality of what she had done that brought her to her spiritual afterlife was a rollercoaster. She waits on the Queen of Blood and Bone, doing all of her biddings - no matter the task. Agnus puts on a face to show those around her that she isn't affected by the way she must carry herself, but deep down, I think anyone who has known Agnus over the Crowning series knows there's something deeper.

I don't want to spoil too much. Although the story was a bit fast-paced and could've been slowed down to get a better understanding of the situation and characters, I loved everything about this story. Might I also confess I have a crush on Thorn - The God of War.

PLEASE. If you are a fan of Nattie's other novels, be sure to pick this up.

I was given an e-ARC of this dark New Adult Fantasy, & fair warning it does have spoilers if you haven't yet read her The Crowning series (so I highly recommend you read that before diving into this incredible book).

Once I started to read I didn’t actually stop until I had finished this novel, because once Mason had completed building the world for her reader, EVERYTHING started to happen - how could I put it down?! Of course I couldn't!

I'll be honest. It took me probably half of the book to be okay with a certain villain being our protagonist (I fully admit that I held a serious grudge from the previous series). But what Mason has done, is create a story of villains & shown us how compelling a world can be when nobody is trustworthy & everyone has their own agenda. I don't want to give away spoilers, but in a world of deities, monsters & sinners... Brace yourself for deviousness & vicious action that results in so much bloodshed.

When I got to the end, I wished so hard that the second book could somehow (magically) be ready to dive into straight away. This story is utterly captivating, with sentences that hold your imagination so tightly:
"She was a deadly serpent wrapped as a pretty gift. She was ready to strike..."

I'm already eagerly awaiting book number two. 💕

The Goddess of Blood and Bone is a short but sweet novel that is in the same universe as The Crowning series.

While it's not necessary to have read the trilogy, there are many references that will tie-in nicely if you've read the authors previous books.

The main difference with this book and the previous series is that this novel is NOT in the Young Adult genre. It's very steamy and contains multiple sex scenes, so isn't suitable for younger readers.

Overall its written brilliantly, and the characters are fantastic. Nattie continues to build a fantasy world in which the reader will be immensely drawn to.

Also, can we talk about this cover? It's incredibly eye catching. I definitely think there will be some cover buyers (who won't be disappointed!l

Thank you so much to Nattie for sending me a copy of this ebook to review.

First things first, the ART. The cover art by Beth is absolutely beautiful! It’s both stunning and fierce!
And the illustrations on the chapter starts are a lovely touch. Each POV has their own unique piece of art. Love this!

Now for the nitty gritty! This was a great read! The world building was detailed but in no way overshadows. The characters all having their own developed roles within the story was refreshing. There is no information avalanche, thankfully!
And the smut, I feel is a good level and blends with the plot. It didn’t feel out of place.

Vengeance and power are what this plot is built on and I’m totally here for it. With the different POV’s we get to see the motives for each and the boundaries they’re willing to cross.

I’m interested to see where book two in The Immortal Deities series takes us!

The Goddess Of Blood And Bone is AMAZING!
This is the first book in a new series by Aussie indie author Nattie Kate Mason.
It is set after the events of her series The Crowning but you dont have to have read The Crowning to read TGOBAB (Though you will come across major spoilers for The Crowning series).
This is a new adult book and it is very steamy.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fast flowing even though it had plenty of world building being the first book in a series.
I really like the main character Agnes who throws off major villain vibes but still makes you root for her.
The smut in this was soooooo good but it also flowed well and didnt overpower the story at all.

I hope you all enjoy this book as much as I did :)

The Goddess of Blood and Bone by Nattie Kate Mason

Quotes and Curses Dance with the Devil 😈 box… yeeees I love the spooky vibe.

First impressions do count, and the cover of this book is absolutely stunning. Like, so incredibly awesome and fits the vibe of the book to a T.
The setting of this book is so deliciously twisted and dark and ooooh I love it. Absolutely love the way that Mason paints her scenery. Even when we move on from the Pitts, the scenes are so vivd and descriptive it’s really easy to picture. I love the way Mason has twined in some Greek mythology but still managed to put her own twist on it as well.

Agnes is very angsty, very angry individual. I haven’t read the previous series that had her as the MC but I think I should after reading this book, but I don’t know if I liked Agnes enough to consider picking up the previous series.

The tension between Agnes and Nushka is not there. I don’t feel a connection between them. I don’t particularly like the way Agnes constantly refers to her as My Queen, sarcastically or not. It makes me uncomfortable. The interactions between them just aren’t exciting. And the power imbalance only furthers that gap.

Nushka is a fucking psycho. There, I said it. She is depraved and fucked up and not in a likeable way, and that seems to be the intent for this character.

I do really like the developing friendship between Kayla and Agnes, although I am really curious as to WHY Kayla ended up in Moor. A potential for a spin off, or short story if it’s not addressed in the sequel.

Thorn and Agnes’ relationship happened too quick. I mean he pinned her to the ground the first meeting, and fucked her brains out the next, and now he’s got the puppy dog eyes for her when they literally cross paths like three times in the entire novel. I did like the banter between them, but unfortunately there wasn’t enough of it to convince me of their relationship.
Maybe it’s because I feel a sort of contempt for Agnes? I dunno, I think she’s rather self-absorbed.
The sex wasn’t that great either, but that’s because the tension isn’t there… there’s no longing, no pining staring, no daydreaming and certainly not enough banter.

I don’t particularly like the way the formatting is for thoughts, being in italics. It would be just enough for them to be in quotation marks to be honest. It just feels disjointed when the thoughts are in italics, because only the main thoughts are in italics.

Overall, I did kinda enjoy this book. It took me a while to read, not because of the actual book but because of a slump. A solid three star read 🌟🌟🌟 and I will read the next one to complete the series and see where it goes. Because I definitely want to know ☠️

I was lucky enough to have read an ARC copy of ‘The Goddess of Blood and Bone (AGOBAB) by Nattie-Kate Mason and all I can say is… I hope I’m lucky enough that Mason chooses me as an ARC reader for the next book in the Immortal Deities series!

The main reason I adored this book is because we finally get to see a perspective that I have been really, REALLY curious to get a glimpse at. From book one in ‘The Crowning’ serious I’ve been SO curious as to what is going on in Agnes’s head while trying to understand what drives and motivates her to be…. well, Agnes. And boy, did this book deliver!

In this book, we’re taken on a journey through Agne’s eyes, we get to experience what it’s like in the Pitts of Moor and we go through a range of different emotions in the process. It was awesome to feel like a bad ass bitch while reading this book, it felt good to be bad! It didn’t feel so good being left on a massive cliff hanger, having to wait for the next book but that’s just another excuse to re-read this one before picking up the next book in the series when it’s released!

I really enjoyed reading Nattie-Kate Mason’s take on the genres of dark fantasy and her transition from middle grade to adult writing. One thing I loved noticing is how Manson’s writing style has found itself within each new book added to the series and I’m excited to see where this dark and twisted path will lead in the next book!

I have to admit, I skimmed quite a few pages towards the end of this book. It took me such a long time to finish.
Unfortunately, nothing to me was memorable. The characters were mediocre, the writing was filled with 'telling', and there was so much repetition. The plot and world were enticing at the beginning, but that quickly de-railed for me. A very slow and uneventful read. I was quite disappointed.
One star for the fact that the book was published.

I think there's definitely good bones here (pun intended) but ultimately I think this book needed a bit more work. It's the first book from this author I've read, and I picked it up at a small convention (she's a lovely person ftr! I loved talking to her)

I loved that the world is clearly something the author's thought about a lot, and there's a lot of great ideas with all the different deities and magical creatures. You can really see there's something interesting here and I wish it had taken its time exploring that! I'm all about that worldbuilding big ole fantasies hehe. I saw from other reviews that this is actually a follow-up from the author's YA series so maybe if I had read that things wouldn't have felt so 'tell-don't-show' in this series? But things really seemed to happen with no preamble and left me going "huh? wait, what are they talking about?" I was really craving a few more chapters at the start showing Agnes in her mortal life and Nushka existing in the Pitts of Moor so that I then understood what they both wanted and what their deals were.

I also would have loved a few more scenes between Nushka and Agnes at the start. I'm a fan of messy evil sapphic stories, so that was a real treat for me, but I had hoped for a little more banter and yearning around the sex scene as well. Really show me WHY Nushka was so willing to team up with Agnes.

Nattie has created a colorful and rich world where villains ooze, debauchery is a common pastime, survival is worth any price, and vengeance is the greatest desire. Our antihero Agnes wants out of the Pitts and will challenge the Gods in order to do so. The Goddess of Blood and Bone, Nushka, despises her kindred and wants to enforce her own version of ruling on them all. Their scheme is simple, their motivations are solid, and their enemy is suspicious, but cocky of their own power.

This novel is dark and compelling. From the perspective of a villainous Goddess and a Soul who died attempting to kill her sister, there is little light in this book. Yet, the promise is there, and I am looking forward to seeing how the characters looking for it fare in future books.

The Goddess of Blood and Bone by Nattie Kate Mason
“It’s up to us to make things right.”
“It’s up to us to fight back.”
~~~
Eli recommended this book to me and I’m extremely happy she did. This was dark and had some spicey scenes in it! I loved the different sexual representations that were in the book!
The dark themes were right up my ally; I couldn’t put the book down! The world building and different dark creatures were perfect for this book! Also imma need me some more God of War; perhaps a whole novella?
Mason really has a great series going for her as an Indie author! I can’t wait to figure more of her books and other works on my page. Her writing is so capturing and detailed!
THE GODDESS OF BLOOD AND BONE By Nattie Kate Mason @nattie.kate.mason.writer
Just finished this beautiful new release. I am thrilled to have finally found a book perfectly combining fantasy, adult themes and adventure. Although this is book one in the series Immortal Deities it is very nicely finished, building up the anticipation of what is to come, without cliffhangers.
I like Agnes for her raw realistic portrayal - she is a survivor and I love that about her❤
Nushka was amazing. If I dive into what I love about her I feel I will give too much away, but trust me, she grows on you quick💜
Thorn...hmmm....yes...😈🌶
I liked him, but I loved that he did not dominate the story nor did he overshadow the rest of the characters.
Looking forward to book 2🎉🎉🎉
I really loved this book, I fell deep into it with all the law about the different Gods, Goddess' and Deities. I thought it was really well written and kept you interested with every chapter. It didn't feel as though I could just put it down without thinking about what might be happening next.
The twists and turns the story took you on really intrigued me and most of the twists I couldn't pick, it was nice to be shocked in a few of those moments!
I also loved the spicy scenes that was sprinkled in, they didn't feel forced but flowed nicely with the story and created more depth to the characters that were involved.
Highly recommend and I can't wait until the next book in this series comes out!
The Goddess of Blood and Bone is the Quotes & Curses Book Box August book of the month, so of course that means we loved it! We could not have picked a better book for our ‘Dance with the Devil’ box😍
It was dark and hot and full of characters that you know will stay with you even after you’ve finished the book. Nattie has amazingly created a world, lore and deities of her own that are easy to understand (cause sometimes new worlds and their lores go way over my head and I get so confused).
If you want a darker new adult fantasy with morally grey and villainous characters then look no further than The Goddess of Blood and Bone.
And thanks Nattie for joining us with this box!
Wow! This has got to be my favourite book that I have read from Nattie!
The way she was able to bring characters, gods, and more from her other series into this so seamlessly was brilliant!
I swear I could not read fast enough and I smashed out the first 90 pages in one night because I could just not put the book down!
The build up of the world, the characters, the scenes (and the spicy 🔥 ones omg!!! 😍
I cannot wait to read the second book in this duology!!!
Thank you so much to Nattie for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review of this one!
To start I want to say that this book actually sits at a 3.5/5 for me as opposed to a 3! Now into some nitty gritty. I want to preface this by saying that the author recommends reading her first series the crowning series before reading the goddess of blood and bone and OMG YES PLEASE DO THIS! A huge factor in my rating for this book was that I felt I lacked a lot of context and thus enjoyment for the characters, world and story as I didn't have the pre-requisite set-up and understanding for a lot of things within the book. I did find myself at times slightly confused by the book and I really struggled to find a connection to the characters for around 50% of this book which honestly was the determining factor in bringing my rating down for this book and I feel so bad because I acknowledge that it is largely my fault in not having read the crowning series first.
However, I always found the prose of this book incredible, I really enjoy the way Mason writes and I found myself intrigued by the story. Aforementioned, it did take me a while to fully connect to and understand the characters however once I hit that 50% mark I really did find them so much more enjoyable and the entire novel picked up completely for me from there. Mason has a beautiful way of constructing plot and her world overall is really one I found interesting.
As I said I truly am so disappointed in myself for not reading the crowning series first as I feel it would've made a huge impact on my rating and overall enjoyment of the book. This is one I 100% recommend all fantasy lovers pick up and give a try. I do want to reaffirm that this is an adult novel, however, and is directed at an older audience so go in knowing that and being fully aware.
Thank you again to Nattie and I commend you for your beautiful work! Keen to pick up the sequel in the future.
What a mess of a book.
The writing was subpar and I got whiplashed when Thorne was introduced out of nowhere whilst I was still thinking Nushka loved Agnes… or does she?
There was so much telling and not showing and although the premise is intriguing, the execution really fell flat and I just couldn’t enjoy it.
The Goddess of Blood and Bone is a spin-off series to Nattie’s YA trilogy “The Crowning”. And let me just say, WOW! This is definitely Nattie’s best book yet.
I loved that this is more Adult/New Adult as its a genre I am currently loving (I mean there is smut, need I say more?)
I am not hugely into mythology but this book was just incredibly well done and had me gripped from page one and I just really loved it!
The plot was intriguing and we see an old character from The Crowning make a return and I have to say, I almost like this character now (for obvious reasons I won’t say who because of spoilers), which I am kind of mad about because I don’t want to like them but Nattie just did an incredible job writing their character. I do feel the romance was too rushed for my liking (again this is purely because I prefer a slow burn) but I’m not complaining because it’s a good match! I also really loved all the new characters we meet and the dynamics of them. The world building and imagery was also really amazing and written wonderfully.
I am looking forward to the sequel!!
