Tangled Garden tells the sapphic tale of Hyacinth and Devina, whose lives are turned upside down upon finding each other — along with a ravenous mutual lust at first sight.
Only four months into her marriage with Travis, Hyacinth (known to friends as Cyn) senses she made a mistake by marrying the man (and probably a man in general), for her love life at home is sadly dissatisfying and leading to borderline self-destructive behavior.
“Avoiding a husband who adored me, drowning myself in wine, and then starting all over again the next day. Life on repeat without an end in sight.”
Enter Devina, who is more than happy to sweep Hyacinth off her feet and capitalize on the obvious connection between the two. But when Dev discovers Cyn’s wedding rings in the afterglow of a steamy tryst — the knowledge of Cyn’s marriage previously unknown — the tale takes an unexpected turn, and suddenly things don’t seem so promising for the secret lovers.
“She held my wedding rings in her shaking palm . . . I knew she had the tendency to be on the dramatic side, even though I knew little to nothing about her past.”
I found Tangled Garden to be engaging, evocative, and, at times, quite thrilling. The narrative reads with an enticing simplicity, streamlined shots straight to the point with little to no drag. Much ground is covered in short order thanks to the taut, efficient phrasing, and the smooth, believable dialogue certainly does its part in helping things move right along. This speaks to the Author’s understanding of pacing and the avoidance of verbiage.
Elements of obsession and unpredictability are intensified by a well-realized sense of stalker mentality; a cerebral brand of chess play reminiscent of Joe Goldberg’s style in You.
The Colorado setting is used to excellent effect, with scenic imagery of mountain peaks, visits to dispensaries and ski slopes, where a chairlift just might host a scene of intimate action.
“Would she be able to feed the demons enough to satisfaction when they wanted to come out and play?”
Spicy with substance, Tangled Garden is an enticing first installment in The Beautifully Broken Series.
I read Chaotic Delusions first; I didn’t know Cyn’s book came first. Tangled Garden is broken into 2 parts with 2 pov’s. Part one is Cyn. Part two is Dev.
Part one is a lot less spicy than part two and that’s why I rated it a star less than Chaotic Delusions, which part two on its own. The story felt a bit lopsided when both parts are put together.
But also, part one ends at a point that fills in a gap and reason why Dev goes to detox and rehab.
I really like the author’s stories and will continue to read her backlist.
The emotional rollercoaster this book takes you on from beginning to end will have you wondering where have you been all of your life. it will have you questioning whether or not you understand yourself and will definitely have you wanting to have a piece of Devina. the emotional pull between these two characters had me drawn like nothing before. form the emotions to the hot and steamy sexual tension had me literally standing up reading It the entire time. this book is a must read for sure.
Story was beautifully written. The girl draw you in and felt relatable. Totally worth the read. The tale was dark yet sweet like chocolate covered strawberries 🍓 near a winter fire.
This was my first lesbian romance novel and I LOVED 😍 it. Savvy never disappoints with her characters and her smutt 🥵 Very quick read and a wonderful story. Highly recommend.
Blurb:
Hyacinth, a sweet girl next door who devotes her time to her father and stressful job, generally spends her weekends shrouded in a purple haze and avoiding her boring husband.
Enter Devina, a pathological liar who is unable to accept her shrinks diagnosis, and seeks Colorado’s many dispensaries for a homeopathic treatment.
A chance encounter leaves Devina pining for Hyacinth, taking full advantage of Hyacinth’s unhappy marriage full of doubts.
Treading the line of betrayal lightly, the two explore their heated connection in secret.
The pair are quickly blinded by their own desires and Devina grows impatient with their twisted situation. Hyacinths reluctance to accept her true self pushes Devina over the edge and into a possessive mania that will forever change both of their lives.
Savvy Rose brings us two women with two completely different backgrounds. Hyacinth a femme that got married way too young with a curiosity for women she hadn't quite explored yet, now found herself tangled with lust and the emotional connection she feels for a stranger she met in a sex store; Devina. Devina is a "stem" an in-between lesbian with a scared past, looking to fill the void that is her life with random hookups, alcohol, and drugs with an undiagnosed bipolar mental illness. Their relationship goes through hardship and heartache and it is important to note the author Savvy Rose, brings us a storyline much like a lot of real-life scenarios, and how each person can react differently to wherever demons they may carry within. Fast read. 5 red peppers on the spicy level. good job.
Just got done reading the book , and I’m obsessed, never thought I would be reading erotic stories , lesbian tales at that , me being gay I enjoyed this erotic novela , it’s a short read and pacing is great , book is split into 2 narratives Hyacinth and Devina’s both great , the interlude into part 2 I was shocked with finding Dev in the tube #TWsuicide , this book has it all drama , sex , drugs in a non junkie , non exploiting the Lgbtqia+community and our stigma that we are all sex and horny ! It’s done very well , and Savvy Rose is an ally, can’t wait to read more and supporting small authors - xoxo
