A city destroyed. An old threat returns. What will Salvos do next?
After fleeing from the destruction of Vamont, Salvos splits from her companions to begin her quest for knowledge and power. She will study under both Fairykind and Humankind if necessary, to learn the Skills she needs to reunite with her first companion.
Meanwhile, Daniel shall have to face his past, while Edithe will continue her fight in the bloody company war between the Valiant Dreamers and Iron Champions.
Alone and without her companions, Salvos will have no choice but to adapt and overcome these new obstacles that bar her path to her goal.
This was a good fourth instalment of V.A.Lewis’s Salvos series. The series is a fun YA LitRPG series that mixes action and adventure with some slice of life drama and comedy. It also has a fun lead character!
I’ve found a lot of LitRPG series fade badly as they progress but that has not been the case for this series as it remains as entertaining and enjoyable as ever. Lewis has done of great job with the steady story progression and with keeping the characters and world fun.
The fun development in this fourth book was the change of pace we got with Salvos taking a break from adventuring to head to school with Sapphire so she could learn more about magic. It ended up being a ton of fun. Salvos in a magic school was as about as hilarious as expected! We also got to get to know Sapphire a bit better and met some new characters.
As an added bonus we got a few side stories to keep us up to date with the happenings in the life of Edith, Daniel, a few other side characters. I’d honestly not mind seeing a spin-off for Daniel or Edith or them being given more POV time in the main series. The secondary characters have really grown on me over the course of the series.
All in all I thought this was a good instalment of the series and I’ll push right on with the fifth book. I’ve listened to over 73 hours of this series on audio and it has held my attention the whole time. Always the sign of a fun story!
Rating: 4 stars.
Audio Note: Tess Irondale was great with the audio. She is fast becoming one of my favourite narrators.
It’s a good fourth book, but the callous disregard of Salvos for others their plight had me wince a few times too many. Don’t get me wrong, I did like this book. It’s her way of seeing the world, and it’s consistent to the story. It just makes it hard reading sometimes for a softie like me.
This series is seriously good. I love the main character and the narrator's portrayal of her (I smile every time she yells YAY in that salvos way), but everything else, from the plot, pacing, magic system, world building, dialogue, and all the other little things, is done quite well too. I read a negative review that complained there was virtually no loot or looting in the series, and there would be a lot and it'd be interesting to hear about, but the story is told through salvos and most of the time she couldn't care less about loot or money, so it just makes sense. That's kinda a microcosm of why the story is good, because salvos is a distinct and interesting character and the author has done a good job staying true to her and filtering the story through her unique lens, yet the actual story and world beyond her is distinct and interesting too.
4.5 stars I don't like when the author splits the narrative between characters like the author did in this one. However I felt that it was very well done and therefore it deserves a 4.5 stars. The amount of character growth we see from Salvos in this one is probably the most I've seen in all the books and I am loving it. The action is amazing as is the fact that she has to learn to blend in with a completely new setting. I found that it kept me at edge of my seat like always and made me hungry for the next one.
Another really great addition to the series, with salvos showing her much more intelligent side, even if she does make a rather dumb mistake in the story here, it led to a rather hilarious relationship. Overall, I had a great time reading this, just as I had a great time reading the previous books, so I definitely think this is worth just as much as read as books one through three.
This book is an excellent addition to a phenomenal series. Lot of new twists and plots were introduced. And side characters growth was adequately captured though author could have added more chapters for the Hero. But a fun read nonetheless. Eagerly awaiting further volumes.
That was good. Very good. All of this series has been, in my opinion… but a third book is harder to make good than a first - when everything is new. This one is even better than the first one. Nice.
That was different and wow was i blown away. Just wow. I love how its done. I still dont understand the text part near the end but it was interesting. Im definitely going to start the next one right now <3 so amazing
I think this is what most people imagine a fantasy setting entails. Salvos gains some levels after separating from her companions, and after the short detour the next 100 chapters is about school life at the magical academy with Saffron.
I was on the fence but this was more 4 stars than 3 stars. Salvos goes to School or maybe Salvos: Potter Edition would be better titles. Progression is better than #3.
Not my favorite of the series. A good portion of the middle has this one random character that annoys the sh*t out of me. Otherwise it’s great, and of course I’ll continue the series
The story continues to have humor and action but this is definitely more focused on character development which I am happy to see. I continue to enjoy reading the series and am interested to see where things go from here.
Rereading second times whole series, this book is probably the best one, and it actually starting the big plot, love it. Sponsoring both patreon as well as a comic book.
