Eine Parabel, die ich noch aus meiner Kindheit kenne, und die nichts von ihrer Wirkung verloren hat. Besonders die Bilder am Ende des Albtraums sind immer noch sehr eindrücklich und für mein Kind evtl. noch etwas zu beunruhigend. Wie jede Parabel ist natürlich auch diese in ihrer Erzählung sehr einfach und sollte eher als Gesprächsgrundlage denn als absolute moralische Wahrheit dienen. Führt Reichtum wirklich automatisch zu Neid und Chaos? Hätte es eine Möglichkeit gegeben, den Reichtum zu teilen? Ist die Perle wirklich etwas wert, oder weist man ihr den Wert nur zu? Ist die Alternative wirklich nur Armut, aber dafür Freundschaft? Wenn mein Kind etwas älter ist, freue ich mich darauf, solche Fragen mit ihm zu diskutieren.

Didactic and scary. Thank goodness for the nice ending, but this is not a book I'd like to share with younger children. Some school-age children might like it if they discover it themselves.

A beaver finds a treasure (a pearl, or so he thinks) and then dreams that this pearl - because of the jealous envy of his friends - will basically ruin his life. I think the lessen went over my four-year-old's head, but it's a decent lesson for adults. Less is more:)
