They say that you find love when you’re not looking, and I definitely wasn’t looking. My only focus was on raising my son and giving him the life his mom would have wanted him to have before she passed.
When a woman came crashing into my life— literally— I had no choice but to stop and help. She was stranded with nowhere to go, and there was an uneasiness about her that sent chills up my spine. It was apparent that she was running from something, but the question wasn’t what, but rather who.
I should have drawn the line and kept my distance from her. I didn’t need any unnecessary drama in my life. But when her daughter had the same frightened look on her face, I knew that I couldn’t.
Letting them stay with us was only supposed to be a temporary solution until the storm passed. We weren’t supposed to fall so easily into acting like a family. It should have been easy to let her go and walk away from whatever was haunting her. But as life had already taught me, nothing was ever easy.

“You don’t have to talk, you know I like the thrill of the hunt. It’s even better when I can feel how scared you are.”
Chapter one hooked me right in! What is Lacey running from? What happened to her and her daughter? I had a guess, but as I read a little further that guess no longer made sense.
Grant and Lacey had an easiness about them from the first minute they met. His small-town gentleman ways would have stunned me (maybe scared me?) in real life, but I guess with Lacey also being small-town it would seem less weird to her. It didn't take long for them to settle into somewhat of a routine, and it was adorable how their kids, Liam and Annie, took to one another. I suppose they were both lonely in their own ways, each being an only child who had lost a parent.
"That’s the unfortunate thing about death, it doesn’t care whether our hearts can handle it.”
This one came across a little sweeter than some of the author's other books, but it worked. Don't worry- there was still steam! And the suspense was intense throughout from the ever-circling, looming threat.
I love the way some humor is always injected into this author's books, even though the subject matter leans toward heavy.
Now hoping for a future book about flirty, dirty Wyatt! 😍
The Ties That Bind by Samantha Baca is the newest book in her Haven Brook series, and I was HOOKED from the start!
I've been eagerly awaiting Grant's story, and I ADORED it, every twist and turn delicious and gripping. And Liam? What a cutie!
And Lacey? She was everything I wanted her to be and more! And Annie, she was too cute! Lacey is strong, resilient, fierce yet sweet.
There is a heck of lot of heavy and weighted baggage between these two, and the result of the story is an emotional rollercoaster ride of a journey that was emotive and evocative.
And the CHEMISTRY? Sizzling and sparking! Between the heated glances, the fighting against feelings, the miscommunications, the tension and intensity of history catching up and the unknown.
There's a beauty to how emotions are handled deftly and carefully, especially loss and grief, which warmed my heart and was touching, especially when on turn it was also an opportunity for amazing growth with the characters!
So, if you're looking for a story that will keep you on tenterhooks and tug at your heartstrings, look no further than The Ties That Bind! Samantha, you've done amazing and I cannot wait for whatever comes next!
P. S. Loved Kayce! I hope we get her story if it isn't already out there! She's a firecracker! Oh snap. And Wyatt! My imagination is making all sorts of plans!
Ah! Samantha has done it again. The Haven Brook series constantly keeps you on your toes by mixing a decent amount of suspense with a great love story. This book follows Grant, who lost his wife some time ago...and Lacey, who has just also experienced loss, and they have children similar in age. When Grant helps Lacey after a car accident, he's determined to help her in whatever way he can. The two of them instantly have chemistry but both are hesitant to admit it. As a mom with a son who married a man with a son, I instantly connected with the story on the level of blending a family together. It's not overly steamy, but the great story line and suspense keep you turning the pages. Can't wait to see what's next for these Haven Brook boys!
Ok I may have read this one even faster than the other two. Samantha has a way of getting you attached to these characters, and you just can’t put the book down. This one had a roller coaster feel for me as I was falling in love with the newly formed family while following the suspense of the chase. Great job once again, Samantha! Definitely 5 stars!
Grant is my favorite Haven Brook man up to this point, I just adore his protectiveness and the love he has to give. After his loss of his wife several years ago, Grant is raising his son on his own (well, with the help of his close family). Lacey and her daughter are running from Lacey's past and literally nearly crash into Grant on a winter night. The suspense of Lacey's past finding her kept me up well past my bedtime and had me sneaking reading time at work! The suspense had been building and we knew it was only a matter of time before it caught up with her. The chemistry between Grant & Lacey was also HOT! I felt like more than the previous 2 books in the series, but I liked it! I did love their story! So why only 4 stars? Well, a few things seemed too rushed for me.... There is NO way I would agree to share a bed with a man I barely knew in their living arrangements. Now if there had been more time and maybe more of a relationship had been established, but what, just a couple weeks and she was moving into not just his room, but also his bed?! I found it too convenient that Lacey was able to have the perfect job literally fall right into her lap, there's no way that position wouldn't have involved more approval and be a longer process. Also, the ending (not going to ruin any surprises here) where Annie got her Christmas wish, there is NO way Lacey could have kept that BIG of a secret from Grant without him having some idea. I could see maybe a smaller version of that surprise, so I guess it went a little too far for me at the end there. Overall, I'm loving the Haven Brook series, but I just felt we rushed this relationship a little more than it should have....
I enjoyed the unexpected way the two main characters met and ended up falling for each other. They both were coming from parallel situations and unforeseen to them both, they ended up being perfect for one another, helping them both to move on from a void they had both experienced. With a villain attempting to ruin Lacey’s newly found zeal for life on her trail, this made the story even more thrilling and kept me at the edge of my seat. Once again I was enthralled throughout this exciting and heartwarming book by Samantha Baca!

Oh my goodness! This family finds drama, but turns it I to happy ever after. I felt bad for all Lacy went through. Thank goodness she saved Annie. Grant is remarkable with being mom and dad to Liam. Grant is an exceptional man. Lacy is another survivor. I totally enjoyed reading how Grant and Lacy worked through the problems. Highly recommended for mature audiences
Haven Brook continues to deliver small town romance drama
Another small town romance this time Grant runs into unexpectedly Lacey and her daughter Annie. Grant finally opening up himself to another woman after he lost his wife to cancer years ago. They both find comfort in each other having gone through grief. Such a great story.
I love the series and enjoyed the journey of Lacey and Grant. There is a little drama which I enjoy in a story. Fun to see all the side characters from the previous stories in the series.
One of the best series I have read in awhile. Keep you on your toes drama, romance with some hotness and a feel good love story. What can be better than that! I have really enjoyed this series.
This story had me staying up late not able to put it down. It had everything you could want in a book. Romance, thrills, friendship, tears, happiness. Another must read .
