Here’s the thing about wildflowers...they dance, even when it seems there is nothing worth dancing for. They bloom with or without you. “Still Growing Wildflowers” is a poetry collection that gives voice to past trauma and a path to healing.
Hi, I’m Alisha, the voice behind Where She Grows. As a single mom, self-made poet, and all-around hell-raiser, I’ve spent the last four years pouring my soul into poetry that captures just a small part of the raw and real aspects of life.
Through my four independently published poetry collections, I explore themes of love, life, and losing yourself to create a space where you can grow through what you go through.
I write poetry about healing from intergenerational trauma, abuse, and the grief of losing a sister. My series, Still Growing Wildflowers isn’t about glossing over the tough parts; it’s about finding the beauty, the strength, the love, or simply just acknowledging that sometimes, life just fxcking sucks and it is what it is.
I’ve read many poetry books now, and truly this is one of my new favorites. You can feel the hurt and pain in her words. But you can also feel the healing energy as she writes about changes and growing. I enjoy books that you can tell helped the author through their trauma while ending with uplifting messages of promoting healing. She should charge more for her book. I’m going to be ordering her next 2. Buy this one, it is beautiful.
Alisha is a poetic breath of fresh air. Reading her stories helped start the process of compartmentalizing my own inner battles that I did not want to face, but needed to nonetheless. There is bravery leaking from each page and my tears are forever stamped into the cover. This book is for both men and women and anyone trying to aspire to personal growth. It is the first book I chose to read for 2023.
Very similar vibes to Rupi Kaur. Quick read and was able to relate to a lot of it. Perfect for young adult females who are in that in between stage of life in growing up. Really great read!
This is poetic cinema. Borne of seeds planted by hurt and abuse and religious trauma; blooming into a wildflower garden where the author sees weeds as what they truly are - new life and perspectives coming up through situations where we’re told nothing good can ever grow. She turns “just a weed” into milkweed for herself to give life to butterflies. You will cry, laugh, and relate to more than you even think possible because we are all still growing wildflowers.
The first book I ever read from Alisha was amazing but I have read other books, and this one, and something about it just does not resonate with me. The writing is beautiful, but it is hard to be interested when it doesn't relate.
I give this book 5 stars because there are so many ways you can interpret it and so many things you can learn and grab from the book. The Author writes this poetic piece in a way where you can feel the emotions with them and almost like you are right there with her when she is going through her stages of life. A poetry collection that journeys through abuse, death, grief, and more; “blooming into a wildflower garden where the author sees weeds as what they indeed are - new life and perspectives. This book takes you through Alisha's child Adult life while experiencing her traumas all while comforting the readers simultaneously.
