Anya

Five years ago I was sold. Used. Abused. Now, I'm broken. My loving family thinks a husband will fix me. I have no desire to get married, but I’ll give them what they want. Except it will be on my terms. And I know just the person to ask.

Paddy

Getting married is at the top of the list of things I swore I'd never do. So there’s no way I’ll agree to Anya’s ridiculous proposition. Yet, somehow, I find myself saying yes. She says we both can live our lives without interference from the other. It seems like the perfect plan.

Until it isn’t.

I absolutely love every book in the 'Brooklyn Kings' series by L.K. Shaw and 'Irish Rogue' did not disappoint. I knew any story that involved Anya would be a little emotional and tricky for a male to somehow get through her walls that she had built up and distance that she maintained because of her previous trauma. And Paddy had that silly playful side that always never thought serious about anything. I did NOT see them having a relationship, even a fake one, but LK Shaw surprised me again. Both characters had issues and problems that stemmed from their past and the story was pretty emotional while they were trying to deal with those issues. Of course the story included so danger and excitement and also made me giggle a couple times. I really wish that Paddy and Pierce had come to more acceptance between them, especially after what happened with the Polish, but hopefully that will come in a future book. Can't wait to see Nathan and Lucia's story! I received a review copy of this story from the author and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

This story touched so many hot spots for me and I am amazed at the lenghts the author went to reach out to the reader with understanding and heart.
The characters were some of the most amazing people who found healing and love with each other.
There is no way I can articulate how deeply this book touched my heart. I have already recommended it to my family and friends and now to you.
No amount of praise is enough yet I would like to Thank the author for the love and care she placed on writing on subjects that an be truly terrifying.
I HIGHLY Recommend this story to you!

Anya wished he would kill her and get it over with. It would be much kinder than the torture she has had to endure since being bought by Krzysztof Gornak six months ago. Now she's being sold again. When her name is softly spoken she looks up in terror when she sees the tattooed man, but is confused when he pulls a gun on Gornak telling him to remove his hands from her.

The man behind the devil removes his jacket and hands it to him. The devil walks towards her and cuts the ropes binding her hands and wraps the jacket around her. She is confused to why this Italian, an enemy, is not checking out the merchandise. Hope starts to blossom within her at his gentle touch and promise that she is safe now.

When they lead her to a car she doesn't care as long as she's away from the Polish monsters and it doesn't take long for the exhaustion to take over. She screams as she feels rough hands grabbing her body, but a voice catches her attention. The voice brings her out of her nightmare in shock. It's the voice of her sister who she thought she'd never see again.

Five years have passed and Anya is trying to avoid her sister's attempts to introduce her to various gentlemen. She is uncomfortable around people after being sold into slavery and she is now surrounded by hundreds of Italians and Irishmen celebrating the birth of Emilio and Brenna's twins. Now she is hiding from her sister and trying to work up the nerve to approach the man she's looking for.

She has a proposition for Padraig Donnelly.

This series just keeps getting better and better! Although this book can be read as a standalone, I highly suggest you start the series from the beginning. The Italian and Irish mobs were enemies who joined forces to take out a common enemy and ended up becoming family.

You meet the secondary characters in previous books and I love how they have an active part in each story. LK Shaw has woven these characters throughout the series so I feel like I know them all personally - am part of their family.

Anya's story, like her sister Mila's, will break your heart. Paddy knew what his family was doing in the raids against the Polish, but until Anya, it didn't truly hit him the true horror the women they saved had lived through. Anya had her struggles, but Paddy was the one who really changed with this story.

If you haven't read LK Shaw before, I can't tell you how much you are missing. Her characters will dig into your heart and her stories are action-packed, full of danger and suspense....and so smoking hot!

I love this series by LK Shaw. Irish Rogue exceeded any expectations I had.
The author took a very traumatic situation and handled it with so much grace and love. Honestly, it is the most well written (delivery / representation / depiction) I have ever read . It is a true testament to her connection to the story and characters. Both Paddy and Anya have had troubled pasts and through each other found healing and love. Definitely a must read.

LK Shaw has wrote an outstanding story. Anya and Paddy are to lost souls that find each other. Anya has been thought h**l and back. Paddy had a horrible childhood. Anya is afraid of men in general and Paddy is the Irish Alpha Male to change her mind. I loved everything about this book. I really need to go back and read this series from the beginning. I can not wait to see what happens in the next story between Nathan and Lucia. I'm on pins and needles with this Epilogue ending.

Anya’s tale will break your heart. She’s recovering but she has her sister and brother in-law wanting to fix things. Its enough to make her want to tear her hair out.
Paddy has a heart wrenching tale of his own but as the always smiling jocular fellow you’d never know it. Perhaps Anya sensed it one broken being to another.
When these two get together and help each other heal it was so precious it made my heart smile.

RTC but I knew I was going to like this book as soon as I read the blurb because it sounds like a book made for me and even then I was shocked at how much I loved this book. I was just so taken by this story and I could not stop reading it. I just loved this story and the characters in it. This book was just so romantic it melted my heart. I really enjoyed reading this one.

I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest opinion

Anya has endured the most horrific things in her life and now years later she is trying to move forward and be content with her life. She has a great support system in her sister, Pierce, and her best friend yet at times her sister oversteps by trying to introduce her to guys. When Anya comes up with a plan she approaches the Donnelly playboy, Paddy. Anya is an introvert, likes to keep to herself, and is happy to never find love so it takes a lot of courage to ask him for a fake marriage of convenience. Paddy is shocked by Anya’s proposal and he thinks that he knows he will say no but when it comes down to it there is something about her that draws him in. When they establish rules and no falling for each other or expectations of more they both think this will be easy, but fate has other plans. At times you want to shake them silly because of their stubbornness but with Anya’s trauma and Paddy’s childhood pain they could both be very stubborn fighting the pull they have for each other. This is one of my favorites of the series so far because once Paddy was in he was all in and when Anya was finally able to accept a different future than the one she saw for herself they worked out beautifully, but they both had demons to overcome to get there. I can’t wait for what’s next.

This might be my favorite book I have read by LK Shaw!!!

Irish Rogue is book #5 in The Brooklyn Kings series, and it's Paddy and Anyas story.

Anya has been through so freaking much. Her sister keeps pressuring her to go on dates and Anya just doesn't want to be bothered with it anymore. So she comes up with a plan, ask playboy Paddy to marry her because he won't want anything from her. But it doesn't go the way its planned.

Ugh this story!! I love how sweet and gentle Paddy is with Anya. I cant get over how much she went through, I just wanted to hug her!!

This is such a beautiful story and you guys need to read it!!!

This book comes with content warnings and you need to check those out on the author's website before diving in to this book. It will contain some triggers for some readers.
This is the fifth book in the Brooklyn Kings Series and I have to say that I really adored this book and loved every second of reading it. This is the story of Anya and Paddy. To say that Any a has been through a lot would be a total understatement. The girl has been through so much I don't even see how she is functioning so well right now. But her sister doesn't seem to understand that she needs time to be alone and heal in her own way and keeps trying to fix her up on dates while Anya doesn't even have any interest in going out on a date. However the girl does come up with an excellent plant of getting Paddy the forever bachelor to marry her and them both live their own lives so that she can get some peace and be able to heel and do what she needs to do. Paddy is a forever bachelor and promised himself he would never marry but when Anya comes to him with this plan he can't say no to her. And the adventure begins. I don't want to tell you what happens in this book and ruin anything but I really loved it. I adored Anya and Paddy. Your heart will break at times and others it will melt. This one runs the rollercoaster of emotions for sure. It is really such a good book. You guys do not want to miss it.

Irish Rogue is the fifth book in the Brooklyn Kings series. Anya’s family has been pressuring her to find love and happiness in a marriage, but what they don’t understand is how she’s broken. The only man she feels safe with is Paddy, a womanizer, haunted by his own demons, but always quick to offer a grin. This is just a business arrangement, no love or passion involved. It’s perfect for both of them, but what happens if they start to want more?

Holy emotion! Please be cautious of the author’s warning for possible triggers. This book was just full of all of the emotions between Anya and Paddy, and all sorts of inner demons that both of them needed to purge. They have this crazy connection that neither of them particularly wants, yet they’re so drawn to the other that they can’t resist the possible fire that might burn them. Anya is so dang strong. She survived absolute hell and feels so broken after her experience, just hoping to find contentment with her life. Paddy is the first man she’s ever felt safe with, besides her brother-in-law, and I love that he’s the one that sees her buzz and can read her so well. Paddy was surprising to me because he hid all of his hurts and pains for everyone through playboy actions and humor. I didn’t expect what he carried with him, but loved how it added a vulnerable side to himself that helped win Anya and eventually her heart. This book was hard to read because it covers some seriously heavy emotions and situations, but because they both went through the fire, they were reborn into something better than before. Healing, being part of a family, finding ways to be friends and a team, these are all some of the themes of this book that had me feeling heartache, heartbreak, and so much love and joy. I haven’t read any of the previous books in the series, I didn’t feel lost, but now I’m dying to dive in deep to these characters, to see their hardships and eventually their love! So good!

Irish Rogue, book five in The Donnellys/Brooklyn Kings series from L.K. Shaw is one of the best books I’ve read all year and definitely my favorite of the series. Shaw has put everything into this book, and it’s a masterpiece!

Five years ago, Anya was kidnapped and sex trafficked by the Polish mob. For six months, she was held prisoner and subjected to the worst treatment imaginable. Her sister keeps pushing her to marry, but Anya has never wanted to be married. She comes up with a plan and asks Paddy Donnelly - king of the playboys - to marry her. They’ll live together, but he can date and sleep with anyone, and Anya can focus on her own interests without having to worry about being touched by a man. It’s the perfect plan, so what could possibly go wrong?

Irish Rogue is phenomenal. It’s deeply emotional and sometimes difficult, but it’s so well-written. The characters are strongly developed, and the plot moves along swiftly. While all of the characters know the horrors that Anya survived, they don’t know the anguish that Paddy hides behind his smile. As he and Anya grow closer, they each begin to reveal their insecurities and work to help each other heal. Anya is able to talk about her pain with her sister, relationships are mended, and fears are laid to rest. Paddy reveals his true nature to Anya, and a genuine relationship is born. Shaw has written what I think is one of the sweetest, warmest, most beautiful scenes I’ve ever read in a romance!

You can read this as a standalone, but you’ll enjoy it even more if you read the entire series from the beginning. Please be sure to let me know what you think - I’d love to discuss. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Two broken souls find peace, acceptance, and love where they least expected.

I really enjoyed Anya and Paddy’s story. Anya had been a victim of human trafficking and had to endure the worst possible horrors before she was rescued. Now, free and safe, she’s been staying with her sister trying to heal and find herself. With the best of intentions, her sister is constantly introducing her to men and instead of helping Anya, it’s hurtful due to her past and she just can’t seem to get her sister to understand. Therefore, she decides to be brave and take matters into her own hands…enter Paddy Donnelly and a question that will change her life irrevocably.

Paddy has been fighting his own demons, as well as a well-meaning mother who continually wants to introduce him to a nice young lady and see him happy. Paddy just wants to be Paddy – see whoever he wants, no commitment, no ties, just play the field. When Anya approaches him and offers her ridiculous proposal – though it would benefit them both for different reasons, he has every intention of saying no…until he doesn’t.

Anya and Paddy both have their conditions and well-meaning intentions but the more time they spend together, their arrangement begins to change then all new complications come into play. Revelations and feelings blur the lines and maybe, just maybe, they’ll get their happy ending after all.

Anya and Paddy were perfect for each other. I enjoyed getting to know them both and seeing them open up and connect to each other on a deeper level, as well as the feelings neither expected to be shared. And I loved the epilogue!

This is an emotionally touching story full of personal and family drama, healing, trust, hope, and love. It was the perfect story for Anya and Paddy. I’m looking forward to Nathan’s book next. From the quick glimpse, I can tell it’s going to be full of surprises.

Riveting Read, wonderful characters and a marvellous plot I thoroughly enjoyed
This was a simply wonderful book and I enjoyed reading all about the wonderful characters that were once again mentioned in this book as well as the wonderful books that were in the previous series.
Paddy had known all about Anya’s story and the way she had been rescued by her brother-in-law from the hand of the Polish that were trafficking in females and she unfortunately had been sold by her step brother. Being asked to marry Anya as a way of them both avoiding their families continuing to try and match with possible males and females seemed a great solution.
Unfortunately, their idea of living under the same roof and her knowing that Paddy would carry on in his normal life, dating and sleeping with who ever he wanted and she would simply stay in them at home in her garden and sewing room enjoying the two things that brought her pleasure.
After a short time, it soon become apparent that them living under the same roof is maturing in to more and as their friendship and trust grows both Anya and Paddy realise, they want their marriage to be so much more, Paddy discovers more about Anya’s rescue and sets about killing the perpetrator behind the Polish trafficking ring.
This is another wonderful read by the author who write about very difficult topics that do unfortunately happen in everyday life, these survivors are greater in strength than they realise and Paddy learns a lot from his beautiful wife. Anya is always so grateful for the beauty in life, her garden and flowers and the way her clothes bring a smile to their faces.
I do not want to spoil the plot so will say no more about the three of them, I assure you that you will enjoy every single moment of this book.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

All reviews posted at Tales of Love, Life, and Murder

Anya has lived through hell and she’s doing surprisingly well considering everything she’s been through. She just wishes her sister would stop playing matchmaker because the last thing she wants is a man in her life. Paddy is a confirmed bachelor with a matchmaking-crazy mother so Anya proposes a solution: They should get married so she can be a happy introvert and he can do whatever he wants without his family constantly trying to set him up. It’s the perfect solution for both of them.

Paddy is appalled initially but quickly warms to the idea and shocks himself by agreeing. Even a fake marriage turns out to be hard work and they suffer various missteps in the beginning, but the more time they spend together, the easier it gets. Soon Paddy finds himself struggling with attraction for his wife and Anya realizes she wants to get to know him better. Her tragic past has affected every aspect of her life and Paddy knows exactly how to support her. But what we didn’t know about Paddy was the trauma in his childhood, which has shaped the man he is today. There’s so much more to both of these characters than I was expecting. Their story is beautiful and sweet.

TLDR: My Ratings:
Star Rating = 4 ⭐️ ‘s (I really liked it and I will recommend it)
Heat Level = ☕️ to 🥵 (Warm to Hot - there were some hot moments but overall the heat level was low since this was a slow burn. Also, it was right for the story.)
Recommended for: Lovers of morally-grey men who are secretly sweethearts, slow burn romances and fans of the Brooklyn Kings series.

This was the sweet love story I didn’t know I needed right now. And when I say sweet, I don’t mean ‘greeting card holiday movie’ sweet, I mean genuinely heartwarmingly sweet!

Irish Rogue is the story of two people, each vulnerable and damaged in their own way, who came together with a ‘workable’ solution to their problems. Aka: a marriage of convenience. Except the marriage is far more than convenient when they find that love sparks and grows between them.

Despite this story being set in a mafia world and containing dark elements and character’s with horrific past experiences, it was told with tenderness and compassion. Paddy couldn’t have been more perfect for Anya. I just wish we didn’t have to make it all the way to the end to see them truly come together.

Reading the previous Brooklyn Kings books is not required to read & enjoy Irish Rogue, but the characters do interconnect. If you've read the previous books, you may find that it adds additional dimension to the story.

I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book.

My Rating Scale:
5 ⭐️: A favorite, highly recommend & will definitely re-read
4 ⭐️: I really liked it & will recommend it
3 ⭐️: I enjoyed it & might recommend it
2 ⭐️: Meh, I didn't love it & probably wouldn't recommend
1 ⭐️: Not for me, wouldn't recommend

Heat Level:
🤯 What did I just read?: Uncategorized, because… what did I just read?
☕️ Warm: Sweet ‘greeting-card company’ level romance kind of book.
🥵 Hot: Unabashedly & deliciously smelt, spicy, dirty, and/or kinky kind of book.
🔥 Scorching: Find a private spot to read this book. 😉

What a beautiful story

The description for this book, does not do it justice. When you see a book that has a “mafia” theme, you do not expect such a beautiful story. Paddy and Anya are two very damaged individuals who marry to save each other by means of a marriage of convenience. The story begins 5 years earlier, with Anya’s past, and it is not a pretty story. As for Paddy? His childhood was not a good one, with his grandfather physically and mentally abusing him. He learned to act out, while Anya tried to hide herself. Both Anya and Paddy’s families are each trying to matchmake them with other prospective spouses, but both believe they are too damaged from their past to find love and marry. So, Anya proposes a platonic marriage of convenience to Paddy to stop the well-intentioned but unwanted matchmaking. They marry and a beautiful love story comes out of it. As they learn more about each other, their closed off hearts open and bloom into love. This was a very emotional book to read – heartbreaking at points but also full of love at others. As I said – a beautiful story. Not at all what I expected from a “mafia” book, but oh-so good!

I received a reader copy of this book in exchange for my review.

Paddy isn't sharpest pencil in the box, which was reminded to him over and over by his grandpa when he was a kid. That's why he's not looking for a wife, but instead screws random women and isn't seeking anything serious. Until Anya comes with her offer...

Anya went through hell 5 years ago, when she was sold to Polish mafia and sexually abused. Now she doesn't want to have anything to do with men, and she picks Paddy for a marriage of convenience, so her family would stop pushing her.

I didn't mind Paddy at first, but later on when at the 80% hitmark he flirted with some other woman at the bar, in order to avoid apologizing to his wife for an insult, I had about enough! This guy is seriously dumb as a rock! Anya instead of kicking him in the balls, listens to his explanation about the grandpa, tells him she loves him and here we go - HEA and finally some sex 😄
I mean the scene, when she assures him of her love is probably realistic, but still I would grill him more...

This book was a disappointment for me, as usual when the expectation is too high. I was missing some chemistry between MCs and none of them was likeable. Anyway, at least LK Shaw makes each story in the series unique.

In one word for Anya's story is WOW. We finally have Paddy and Anya's story seeing in a way behind the scenes on their newfound love. Reading what Anya went through it is no surprise that letting her go is hard especially for a man like Pierce who found her from prevous books. Not only we see how far Anya has come but we see a young woman wanting love and a family someday. We see her go from being scared of feelings to wanting to explore not just her new life but also her new husband. She is not only opening herself up but we see her showing us a Paddy that not even he knows himself. The love they have is sweet and slow yet we see them build a friendship they never saw coming. All in all this was the book we have been waiting for and LK Shaw did Anya's story beautifully and well done with all she has gone through. This is one series worth getting because we see not just a Mafia romance but we see a family finding love and their right person to complete them. Loved it.

Experiencing the worst humans can offer up is never good. For Anya she wished she had never experienced it, now she has to suffer with the scars both externally and internally all of her life. Add to that, her sister trying to get her a man. The last thing Anya wants is a man to touch her or be near her. Her plan find a man that will listen to her and give her the anonymity she craves, away from her sister and every other person trying to find her a partner.
Paddy is tired of his mothers meddling. He is the ultimate bachelor, that is until Anaya find the solution for him… Marriage.
A thrilling romance with to damaged people learning that they are more than what people see. That broken people are loved. That even though they were dealt a crap hand, they can rise above the scars of their past to live a bright life, filled with passion and love.

Okay okay. I enjoyed this book, really. It was good. I just,,, the chemistry was off. There wasn’t much intimacy. They barely interacted at first, and then suddenly they’re in love?

But I do like how they handled Anya’s trauma, even if it could have used some work? Mila bothered me so much with her constant attempts at matchmaking Anya, thinking a man would suddenly solve all her problems. I did like Pierce, though. Paddy was… he wasn’t half-bad, actually. I loved the way he was with Anya; knowing her trauma and constantly letting her know she was in charge. Keeping it slow so she’d know with one word she can get him to stop. Always checking on her to make sure she’s okay and with him in the moment. I just wish it would’ve been better.

Anya has been to hell and back and has the emotional scares to prove it. Being sold as a sex slave and treated like dirt will do that to anyone. Her family wants her to be happy she wants to be left alone. So she comes up with a plan…a marriage of convenience. Paddy is a man that gets the job done no matter how much blood is shed while doing it. He agrees to Anya’s plan to get his match making mother off his back. I loved Paddy with Anya! He was surprisingly sweet with her. Both of them had their own emotional baggage to unpack before they could be happy together. They understood each other and got how the other felt. I really enjoyed this quick emotional read and look forward to reading more books by this author.

Wow, just wow! Anya and Paddy’s story is nothing you would ever expect!
I met Anya in her sister, Mila and Pierce’s story and even though she may not see herself as a strong female protagonist, she is the epitome of one. I love how Paddy’s sister, Caitlin tells her she is strong at every turn, but Anya’s tragic past is always on the periphery with her marriage to Paddy. Paddy may have led a footloose and fancy free life in his past to defy his Grand-da but there is something about Anya that messes with his head. How can the two find a way forward from their marriage of convenience? You have to read to find out and will absolutely love how LK weaves the plot to the very last page!

What a beautiful emotional story.
Both Paddy and Anya have their own personal demons.
Both broken in way way or another.
But together these to find perfection and a fixing of each other’s spirits and souls.
Even though their relationship starts off as just an arrangement something changes.
The connection and draw that have is undeniable.
It’s stronger and present.
I loved both Paddy and Anya.
What Paddy shows the outside world I felt was a shield to his true feelings.
And Anya is such a strong woman so brave.
There is no way not to love these two amazing characters.
Keep tissues on hand they will definitely be needed.

Totally here for Operation: Seduction!

This story is my first time reading a book by L.K. Shaw and it was fantastic. This is a slow burn mafia romance with lots of heart. I don't know how anyone could not love Anya and Paddy! Anya proposition Paddy to get married so each of their families will stop trying to set them up. They both lay out their conditions and both agree not to fall in love. So they buy a house (love the house hunting part by the way!) and get married. As you can probably guess they don't stick to the agreement. They get their HEA which they deserve after all the hardships and pain each of them has endured.

I am so far behind in reading LK Shaw's books! This is the first book I've read in this series. I LOVED it. I will go back and pick up the others to read. I loved this world, the characters. Everytime I had to put it down to live life, I groaned. I will re-read when I have a quiet day to do so. I was drawn into the storyline unable to wait to get to the conclusion. We even get a glimpse into the next book. But I really want to listen to this as an audiobook! I'll be checking to see if it is/will be available. Great read!
