Don DeBon is the author of eight science fiction novels and numerous short stories. He enjoys technology (when it works), good weather, and reading a good book. Don lives in USA where he continues to dream up more fantastic worlds for you to enjoy. When not writing, he can usually be found devouring another science fiction book, TV series, or movie. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this intriguing book. The premise that a woman could generate a warp field and travel through time was unique. Red is an exceptional woman who has accidently picked up an unwilling hitchhiker in her maelstrom. She proceeds to travel with him and relays her past experiences to him in a narrative form while jumping through time and space trying not to harm the timeline. The author has included many vivid historical events in which the reader can enjoy participating. A reluctant romance ensues and Red completes her mission, all in a wonderful chronicle. I think history buffs, fantasy, romance and sci-fi fans will enjoy this book. I look forward to reading more of the series.
If you're looking for historical accuracy you're not going to find it. DeBon seems to revel in smashing our expectations of history, and in a scenario where one character can change the course of history with a mere suggestion, it should be taken as part of the fun.
While the story centers around a character trying to stop the assassination of a President, a hiccup in her plan sends Red farther back in time than she wishes and she spends most of the book hopping forward to get back. About midway through the book, it began to remind me of a few classic Disney films, specifically Bedknobs and Broomsticks and Marry Poppins in the way that the main story actually becomes secondary to the fantastical journey the characters make in achieving the endgame.
Unique time travel concept, not a TARDIS or sonic screwdriver in sight interesting charioteers and humour, I enjoyed it immensely and so I purchased the 2nd book when I finished the 1st one, It was nice to read a Sci-Fi novel with out the shoot em up that seems to be the main stay of Sci-Fi space opera's these days
