Hellfire Riders MC #7

Breaking It All

Rate this book
ANNA
When Zach “Gunner” Cooper rode into my life ten years ago, he turned me inside out with a single kiss. Then he discovered who I am—his best friend’s little sister—and he never touched me again.

Now he’s the Hellfire Riders’ sergeant at arms—sexy, dangerous, and still the only man who’s ever set my body on fire. I’ve tried to stop wanting him. I’ve tried and tried. But this time…I have to get over him. Because everything I feel for him is killing me inside.

GUNNER
For ten years, I’ve pretended that I don’t think of Anna Wall as anything other than our enforcer’s little sister. Because the blood running through my veins is poison, and getting close to Anna will only destroy her.

But when her brother goes missing and the past comes calling, and a threat to her life waits at her front door…there’s no pretending anymore. She’s mine. She’ll always be mine.

And I’ll do anything to break through Anna’s defenses and make her believe it.

**This is the third story in the Hellfire Riders MC series but can stand alone. No cliffhangers, will have a HEA.**

Kati Wilde is a tight-lipped, loose-hipped woman of indeterminate age and low breeding. Born into a very large family, she now has a very small family (no laws were broken in this transition), and she writes romantic fiction to assuage her darker urge to write Transformers erotica. She lives in Oregon, so most of you are safely far enough away, and has two old cats.

Kati writes the Hellfire Riders MC romance series and will be publishing her first New Adult novel, Going Nowhere Fast, with Berkley later this year.

About Our Series:

The Motorcycle Clubs series is for romance readers who want all the heat and emotion, but who don’t have all of the time. At this time, we are only publishing novellas — our intention is to provide readers with short (yet satisfying) MC romances. Sometimes we might continue one couple’s story over several novellas, but each individual novella will have a satisfying romantic resolution. Because they are short, we focus the stories on the eroticism and romance, and will be building the MC worlds as each series progresses.

I'm really bummed because this did not stand the test of time

Gunner was in the military with Anna's brother Stone, he returns home with Stone and joins the MC. He met Anna before he found out she was Stone's sister and they clicked. After he found out however he draws a line that he doesn't cross for 10 years.... Anna's off limits. What Gunner is really afraid of is that his blood family who are racist and run a cult will find her and hurt her if he gets involved with her.
Anna survived cancer as a child and a cancer scare later in her life. She spent years travelling but finally returns home and settles down working in the bar belonging to the Riders. She's wanted Gunner since they first met and she throws herself at him a couple of times over the years. 10 years later Anna is tired of this dance and decides to move on from her love for Gunner. Until her brother is kidnapped and Gunner sets off to find him
*****
Now see this would've worked BUT the family that Gunner was so afraid of, that jrit him from being with Anna for 10 years.....they just faded into the woodwork! Yes they were nasty purists and whatever but he strongarmed them into getting information needed to rescue Stone and just basically walked away....and they let him! 10 years these ppl stood as his boogeyman making him unable to be with Anna and THAT was the conclusion????
Oh hell no
This sucked
It was slow in the begining, the stupid unnecessary yearning for each other everything pissed me off. Even the sexy times sucked and this author definitely gives good sexy times

I'm seriously bummed because this H was my golf star standard for BBF. He was celibate for 10 years FFS ugh 3 stars because of that celibacy

" I ignore the double-takes and stares from the woman I pass. That shit’s just a distraction. Anna’s not mine, but I’m hers. And I’ve got no interest in fucking another girl just to get my nuts off. "

Excuse me while I deep breathe through my holy grail of bbf! He isn't with her "for her own good" which is a familiar trope but he didn't go sleeping with other women to forget the h,pretend it was the h he was with or even f#@k around till he sees the h with someone else then be ready to claim her!!!he didn't! He kept his d#@k in his pants!!!!!! This should be the rule book for romances 😂 keeping it in your pants is true and epic 💘! This is why I read romance books!!!!!!!

"Since the day I met her, there’s been no one else. I haven’t touched another woman. Haven’t even looked at another woman." I LOVE this man!!!!!!!!!

Final thoughts....Their devotion to each other was why I loved this book, while I'm not a fan of so much pushing away considering Gunner's family I really don't blame him.As a follower of the series still a little too much repetition for me but I love this series and just how much of a 👊Kati Wilde can deliver in a novella!

May contain spoilers!

3.5 stars just because i loved how devoted h and H were ,but honestly that's it. Too much club business for me. lol I wanted more. pushing away alot from the hero . I understood his reasons but didn't like it. I did love some of the parts we got with h and H!they really do love each other:)

safety: both celibate for ten years since the moment they met! neither are virgins. There is talk about hero going down on a woman for the first time when he was fourteen . his father was there. his family is sick . some kind of cult! other than that we know he fucked before. Thats all we get. no other woman for him since he met h! Herione in the beginning goes out on a date. nothing happens. it went crappy! there is a attempt rape scene, but he doesn't get far she is naked and bind to a chair. the reason he didn't is because she was bleeding from her period.

I actually ended up really liking this. Loved the hero and heroine. They both loved each other, but neither knew the others feelings, yet had remained faithful to each other for ten years, as they both knew the other was IT for them.

For some reason I though this was the first in the series, then there were 2 other couples that were really intriguing, so I looked into it, and they do have their own books, but this can be read as a stand alone.

I really enjoyed the relationship between the hero and his best friend, who is the heroines's brother, and wish we could have had more of that.

And for once, the hero staying away, I actually got, it was more than the usual "oh, I am not good enough for her"

The entire situation with his family was messed up, even though I sort of reluctantly found myself liking a couple of his brothers.

All in, a hugely enjoyable 4 stars, and I have grabbed book 1-6 (in the 2 volumes they are available on) to read.

This book. Omg this book 🥹

After reading Jack and Lily’s book(s) I gave the series a short break because I loved those so much and didn’t think anything could top it with the mood I was in.

I’m glad I did. Because this book destroyed me in all the best ways and I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

Tropes;

🔥 best friends sister
🔥 forced proximity
🔥 touch her and die
🔥 pining and longing
🔥 slow burn
🔥 one room
🔥 miscommunication

I can’t put into words how much I loved this. The misunderstandings, the angst and the slow burn 🥵🥵🥵

Do yourself a favour and read this series.

Generous 3 stars. If this book didn't progress the series plot, I would have skipped it.

I thought that Gunner's reluctance to being with Anna was exhausting. I was over hearing about and wish we got more of them on page together. Not waiting until 75% for them to finally communicate honestly like adults.

I did like that they both were serious about each other and were celibate during the 10 years. But I was also tired of hearing about it

I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Ugh. So you know how Kindle Unlimited now pays authors per page read instead of per borrow? Well, I was the main one scoffing at the notion that authors would pad their books with extra words just to make more money on their pages read. "That's silly," said me. "They only make money if people actually read all of those pages. If the story is padded with useless nonsense and inconsequential conversations, who would get to the end?"

Well occasionally I do have to admit being wrong. Wrong for scoffing that is.

I've read every other book in this series, but I gave up here at about 4% because I read an entire chapter in which Nothing. Happened.

Previously, this series was all novellas. Short and sweet. But the extended page count here gave Wilde a chance to linger and dally and fill pages with inner monologue and a distinct lack of forward motion. When Chapter 2 began without a POV change and I realized I was in for more of the same, I made a graceful exit.

This is a mutual pining fest and I loved every minute of it, even with the bonkers cult, fighting ring plot that took over the romance at times. I'm trash for a pining hero and Gunner gave some good pine not to mention he remains celibate for the woman he loved for ten fracking years 😭 I was dead and gone for him at hello.

Normally, I roll my eyes at the reasons for separation in second chance books but his reasons were solid even if I questioned his actions later on in the book. This was slow burn but it burned so good until it exploded into the first love scene which was like being dropped head first into a volcano 🌋 Also, grade A dirty talk. So far I've enjoyed every book I've read in the series. Highly recommend.

TW: sexual assault.

3.5 stars: I really liked Anna in the previous books, so I knew that I wanted to read her story. Gunner and Anna's connection is different as they have yearned for each other for ten years. Both of them had obstacles to overcome in their life, but the desire for that one person never seized.

I understood Gunner's hesitancy when it came to the FMC, due to his heritage, but I did feel that he pushed her away too many times. In contrast, Anna wanted him with everything she had, but his rejection hit a bit too hard. However, when chaos erupts and Gunner drags Anna to his home, things start to change for them. I think it was a long time coming for both of them. I am not sure why he never told her about his past and his reasons for avoiding a relationship with her in those ten years.

Overall, I liked their story here, but I wanted vengeance for some of the side characters, in particular David. Whenever there is a cult- like element involved, especially as vicious as this one, retribution would be rather appropriate to take place. This was a pleasant story to read.

Whoa. This was the first full length novel from this series and what a ride it was. Definitely did not see that coming.

I really liked Gunner (Zach) and Anna. I'm glad there was a lot more to his reason for holding back from her than just the best friend's sister angle which we'd been lead to believe was his big hang up. And wow, his true hang up was something else. We meet Gunner's family in this book and I can't really say anything about them without spoiling things, but they're awful.

I never knew how this book was going to play out. There were a lot of very extreme options proposed, a lot of options that left Gunner and Anna separated forever and obviously with a romance novel that's not ideal. For a while there I wasn't even sure how they were going to build a relationship because the plot was leading them to being in two separate locations for most of the book, obviously things changed, but wow there were a lot of things up in the air in this book. I wasn't completely satisfied with how some of the major plot elements were left at the end, but it was already a pretty long book so it would've had to have been quite a bit longer to follow through with some of those more extreme options I mentioned earlier.

Another really solid story in this series and I can't wait for Stone's story now! Hopefully that's next.
**Update: even though a preview of Stone's book was included at the end of this one, his book comes after two others 😓 lucky for me it's at least out because it only came out last year, a few years after the previous book 🙏🏻 so I picked a good time to start this series! Can't imagine all the OG's having to wait so long for Stone's book.

Gunner is her brother's best friend but she is in love with him for 10 years.
Gunner pretends that he doesn't feel anything for Anna, Stone's little sister for so long. When Stone's goes missing Gunner and Anna have to visit his horrific cult family to look for information about the kidnap. And the story goes...
The most funny part are the texting between Anna and Stone.
A bit of sad was Anna's obsession with the "Anna was here" in the photos.

2 Stars (skimmed from 50% on)

Man, I was really hoping this book would be as good as it sounded. After reading Lily and Jack's story I was very intrigued by Gunner and his secret love for Stone's sister Anna. But what I got and what I hoped for turned out to be two VERY different things, and in turn left me one disappointed reader.

Perhaps this is on the author for her choice of pacing, scene lengths and scene focus. But again, I know some fault lies with myself for having any sort of expectations for how this story might play out as well.

Which pains me to say because I like Kati, and have enjoyed nearly every book of hers that's grabbed my interest.

Ultimately though, yes, the books pacing and what scenes were focused on and how repetitive Gunner and Anna's thoughts became were big factors in why this book didn't work for me. It felt like it dragged and dragged and that was literally the first 50% of the story. Which was surprising for me.

When starting a book I expect the opening chapters to occasionally feel tedious, especially in a series where most authors unload all the needed facts and history a new reader might need but a regular reader of the series wouldn't and would likely skim or skip all to market the book as a "standalone". And this very much fell into that category, but it was more than that. It was very slow to start, to really get the plot moving and to set up the rest of the story. Hell, even after Stone goes missing an entire week later when Gunner finally returns home to attend Red's funeral we still haven't moved the plot along. At all. By then we've been introduced into Anna's POV and get loaded down with even more details and history and feelings. And then, finally! Just around 30% in do we actually get Anna and Gunner on page together.

Phew, that long?? Really? And it wasn't worth it at all. The scene which leads to them being alone at Jenny's brewery felt so very long winded and drawn out to the point even I was ready to throw in the towel. Lord, why couldn't they just get to the point of what they were saying instead of saying one sentence and then thinking up two pages worth of thoughts and feelings before tuning back into the actual conversation????

For a more smut driven series the amount of endless drivel and wordiness was very surprising tbh. I was not expecting such a long novel and certainly not to have the MCs feelings regurgitated back at me every couple of pages as if we didn't just read about them in the last chapter. I expected a more condensed style similar to Jack and Lily's story tbh but I realize now this was the author writing a full novel and it just didn't work for me or did any justice to the story she was trying to tell.

I wanted to like this, I did. And while I liked some aspects and a few scenes, I just didn't like the entire book and how it was put together. Because everytime I started thinking things were picking up, that finally some real progress will be made, that Gunner and Anna will finally move forward as a couple... It just never happened.

After fifty percent through even though I understood WHY Gunner felt the need to keep his distance from Anna the fact he didn't TELL her he cared for her, that he wanted a future with her and why he hadn't made a move on her the entire time they've known each other was because of his horrible family was just frustrating and stupid tbh. Especially so after he finally explains his family history and how they are and just why they would see her as a threat. But noooo, no. He continues to let her believe she doesn't matter to him.

Ten years he's supposedly been in love with this woman and has kept it secret to protect her from his family. Which, I'll admit he had good reason to fear what they might do to Anna if they knew he was serious about her. BUT again, to go that long and remain celibate because he wants no other woman and not once... Not even once try to make it work with her? Really???

Especially because silly Anna was in love (but not in love, dont ask me) with him for about the same length of time and also not interested in any other men. Thus, they remained separated and mooning after each other for atleast a solid six years with no progress from either side.

I mean, other than Anna drunkenly throwing herself at him about three times to which each time he says "they should just keep things simple" when turning her down. So, in that regard I understand why Anna might not have pushed harder BUT the problem with that is Gunner didn't push either because he thought Anna only wanted sex from him. Especially because of those few times she came on to him. And NOT that she actually had feelings for him and that was on Anna for his misunderstanding, not him.

So, see how all this miscommunication and massive lack of communication becomes a huge point of frustration?

And then Anna had to piss me off around 70% when she so easily abandoned all faith and belief she had in Gunner the moment his Mama introduces her to his "intended bride" Grace whom he obviously didn't know, had never met, and didn't want (at all) but oh no the fact he simply had to have known his Mama had a bride chosen for him was enough to spend a couple pages in Anna's head wallowing and being insecure and then outright hating on Gunner as if he thought she wasn't worthy of him because she survived cancer and was barren. For fucks sake, after alllllll that they (meaning me) had to endure to get to this point she just so easily believed the worst in him?

Like, I'm sorry but Anna just found out about his family history literally a day before being thrown in the deep end and meeting them. When would he have had a moment to even consider that it might be important to mention that his Mama had a woman already chosen to be "his bride" on the farm, and that with her believing him back for good she'd likely push this woman and her agenda on him? And that Anna shouldn't worry because he didn't care or want this woman? Because listen the dude was facing down some big demons from his past by going home and confronting his fucked up family while giving up his position with the Riders and the brotherhood they gave him all while also protecting Anna and trying to get information about where Stone was so he wouldn't lose the man he loved like his own brother. That sure seems like a helluva lot to deal with so I'm sorry, when...WHEN would it have been a good time to try give Anna a heads up about all that all because he should have been more concerned over whether or not Anna's feelings would be hurt?

And don't get me started on how angry Anna got at Gunner when she learned what he told his brothers about her to try and convince them she wasn't worthy and he wouldn't consider her as a bride??? I wanted to scream at her because omg he was protecting you, you stupid idiot!

Ugh, Anna tbfh was an emotional mess and so irrational at times I could hardly stand it. Which truly sucked because there were a few times in Jack and Lily's book and even in this one she had some nice moments that made her seem likeable and like a heroine I could root for. Then she'd go and get lost in her head and react irrationally and I'd just roll my eyes and hope to be in Gunnar's POV.

Final thoughts:

While this was somewhat entertaining I felt it was weighed down by too much inner chatter, repetitive thoughts or situations that never changed and not well paced in regards to the actual relationship between Anna and Gunner.

It felt like the story should have been entirely about finding Stone after he was grabbed and maybe even Gunner confronting his family and getting closure. The actual romance between Anna and Gunner felt so forced at times and out of place in between all the other seemingly more important goings on. It felt like it didn't get the sort of pacing it deserved. It was kind of lost among the main plot. Which made their coming together seem forced and more out of convenience than fate or destiny. Especially so whenever either MC had random sexual thoughts about one another. Which put a damper on them as a couple even if Gunner was adorable in their scenes together.

So anyway, yeah... I just don't think it was necessary to be privy to every stray thought that Gunner but especially Anna had as they worked out their feelings about one another. It dragged out a story that could have easily been 30% shorter without all the filler and repetition.

I am so in love with this series, it is not even funny. Ms. Wilde and the other authors have interwoven stories for us and they just keep getting better and better!!

Anna and Gunner—two people who you root for to be together, but both have their heads up their asses and refuse to cross the line. So frustrating! But when the line gets smaller and smaller…. So satisfying.

When Gunner finds out Anna is his best friend’s little sister, all bets on trying to get in her pants are off. But that does not lesson the desire he has for her, not even a little bit. He doesn’t even see other women anymore even though he knows he won’t cross the line.

Anna has always lusted after Gunner, always. From the first meeting when she flashed him on the side of the road to now, the fire in her panties has been growing stronger and stronger.

Anna’s brother was with Gunner when he gets taken, possibly by the people running the fighting ring and kidnapping bikers—and Gunner feels like he is the one who has to get him back and protect Anna at all costs. What they don’t know is that even the small actions they are making are adding fuel to the fire…

I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. And by anxiously, I mean I am as patient as a sugar-high two year old without a nap! I WANT THAT BOOK!!! ~ Devlynn, 5 stars

It was a bit slow in the romance department but the mystery/suspense part of the book started pretty much right out the gate.
Feel bad for Stone. He had it rough.
Liked Gunner when he finally pulled his head out of his ass.
Anna was a bit annoying at times. I wanted to smack her but I understood where she was coming from.
I feel like something was missing with Adam. I was waiting for a huge blowout but it seemed anticlimactic.
I didn't like anyone in his family even though she tried to make it seem Six and Muncher weren't so bad I didn't like their as grace said "born this way" attitude. I like my bikers Alpha, badass, dirty mouth, rough around the edges and faithful.

Seemed a little unbelievable that both MC's were celibate for 10 years but neither were virgins. It did work out really well though. I guess I'm just not used to a hero being that devoted. It was a good change. Wish I'd known about the others in the series before I read this one. Knowing about the previous MC's isn't exciting when you go back unless their story is vague. Which I will say it was. You just knew who was with who but you don't get a recap which is good if you plan on backtracking. Always a plus for a standalone series.

I really liked Anna and Gunner's story despite it being the old pet peeve push and pull trope. Given his past and horrific family I got why Gunner didn't want to get involved with Anna, and I totally got how it gutted Anna because for each other they were "it". So it kinda irritated me that for TEN YEARS there was this total push away misunderstanding/secrets being kept resulting in them both pining away for each other for, did I say TEN YEARS!!!! What in the actual hell??

I found this book to be slow going at times with the constant inner monologue, self doubts and recriminations which I felt got in the way of the story, the action and the romance. That said, it kept my interest and I read through the night because I really needed to know what happened with Stone. And I need that man's story - and fast.

Really good but slow at times.

I enjoyed this book. There were some slow, angsty parts that got a little old sometimes, but overall it was really good. The story was really well developed and a great lead up to Losing it All. I’m not entirely sure why there are two books between this one and Loosing It All, but I will skip them and go ahead to Stone and Cherry’s book.

There was a lot going on in this one. I will admit it drove me nuts how Zach/Gunnar treated Anna for so many years. You could tell he was into her, yet he denied her time and time again. It was only after we met Zach/Gunnar's family that you realized, yes what he did was a bit cruel, but crueler would have been to start something with Anna, because the family would have ended things and not in a good way. The family was so horrible, but I loved how Zach/Gunnar took them down. What a standoff, where one brother realizes just where is place is, where another brother looks at Zach/Gunnar and realizes that while they may share blood he is no brother, his brother's are at his back.

I do worry a bit about Stone, nothing good can come from what he went through, but at least Zach/Gunnar and Anna can finally live their HEA.

Unexpected

I read these books purely for escapism. They’re so over the top it’s kind of ridiculous. But oddly, even though there are dark themes I don’t find myself too emotionally invested. This one is a bit different than the prior books because it has a pretty long slow burn and a lot more plot.

And I was struck by this quote: “When you grow up, thinking one way, sometimes you don’t even realize you think things you don’t want to think. So you start trying to change it. But it’s an effort.”

7th instalment in this series and Anna and Gunner’s story.

Oh lord this book broke my heart and reformed it and then broke it again.

I didn’t just enjoy this story...I freaking adored it. The journey that both our main characters go through is a long and winding one. It’s filled with chemistry and heart ache. This was a longer book than the previous ( as it was a whole book and it separated into 3 ) but I flew through the pages and couldn’t stop reading.

I’m looking forward to more from this series and author.

The deception, the love, longing and devotion that was experienced in this book is what made it my favorite in this series. But I think I said that after every book I've read in this series. LOL.

I have read every other book in this series and somehow managed to miss this one! So glad I figured that out. This book was fantastic!!! And of I remember correctly (it's been a while since I've read the others) it's the longest book in the series.

I loved Gunner and Anna! I really felt bad for them at times and angry that it took them so long to find their way to each other. But I got it. I look forward to reading Stone's book!!!
