A very beautiful edition to add to any Christmas Library. The illustrations go a far way to nourish the imagination with Christmas cheer and the stories are quite enjoyable for the most part. Barnes & Noble does it again with another of its Classic Editions.
First of all, this is probably the most beautiful book I have ever seen.
Secondly, I enjoyed each story and poem this book had on its pages. I love reading A Christmas Carol every December, but I wanted to explore other Christmas tales this year. This was the perfect book for that. I found Louisa May Alcott's story, "A Christmas Dream, and How It Came To Be True" (4/5) to be one of the most emotionally charged stories out of the whole collection. "Kris Kringle and His Elves" by B. McLoughlin (5/5) was probably the best out of the other stories I've never read before.
Of course, if you're going to have a Christmas collection, you must include Clement Clarke Moore's poem, "A Visit From St. Nicholas" (5/5) in it! The illustrations provided for this poem made it an even more heartwarming poem than ever. In fact, all of the illustrations were phenomenal and gorgeous on the pages. The other poems were beautifully written, especially "Santa Claus and His Works" by George P. Webster. It made me smile and appreciate poetry even more than I had before.
Overall, this is a must-have for anyone who appreciates the meaning of Christmas, especially those who appreciate holiday-themed literature. I will definitely be revisiting this beautiful book again 🙂
From Barnes and Noble an outstanding edition of Christmas classics. This is a treasury of stories and poems that include stunning end papers, gold trim edges, ribbon mark and gorgeous vintage Christmas illustrations that make this book an heirloom to take out and display each holiday season!!
I am usually a paperback person, but I love the Barnes and Noble leather-bound editions. They're beautiful with high quality paper and binding. While that was true of this book, the proofreading must have been nonexistent: I caught at least 10 glaring mistyped errors. For a book that's supposed to be a special edition, that was very disappointing to me.
Also, I was really disappointed in the selected stories and poems themselves. I already loved A Christmas Carol, and I very much enjoyed The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, but none of the other stories stood out at all (although I can see why Old Christmas and A Christmas Dream were included). Same issue with the poems; 5 of the 9 were wholly unremarkable and just didn't seem worthy of inclusion. It feels like they realized that A Christmas Carol wasn't long enough for its own book so they just grabbed the first public domain Christmas stories/poems they found and just threw them in there.
This is a beautiful edition of A Christmas Carol as well as some other iconic and historic Christmas stories and poems. A Christmas Carol was truly the gem of this book, but I enjoyed reading classics, such as The Nutcracker, and other works inspired by one another. Most of the works are from the 1700-1800s, so it will be up to your taste, but I overall enjoyed this collection. I feel like I really got "Christmas lore" thanks to this book.
The art is so detailed and charming; it would really lend well to a family huddling around listening to the literature and taking in the pictures. Some stories clearly demonstrate Santa is not real, so use caution screening stories before reading as a family if Santa is a visitor in your home!
A beautiful hardcover edition from Barnes and Noble with plentiful, gorgeous, historic illustrations from Arthur Rackham. It was fun re-reading "A Christmas Carol" - I'd completely forgotten how funny Dickens could be and how interesting and creative his turns of phrase often were. I could have wished for the occasional footnote or endnote to explain some obsolete or unfamiliar expressions or references to things going on in Dickens's time, but for those who don't like interruptions of that sort to the flow of their reading, it's nice and clear and uninterrupted.
Great book. I had only previously read A Christmas Carol but I was pleasantly surprised by a few of the short stories. I enjoyed the Nutcracker and the poems at the end but the real winner of this collection is all of the art. This book is filled with tons of wonderful illustrations. My boys and I like reading this Great book for Christmas.
Such a gorgeous book ❤️ My favourite for Christmas with Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire by Nat King Cole playing. ❄️🎄
