Note: This MM romance features a tattooed ex-Marine, a former model with a passion for manties and sticking his nose into mysteries, PTSD inspired nightmares, and an epic wedding. Second edition. This series is best read in order.
Lissa Kasey is Ace/Aro and ENBY. Lissa's storytelling specializes in in-depth characters, detailed world building, sweet and spicy romance, and twisting plots to keep you clinging to the page.
I have said this before, and I will say this again, I love this series. Lissa Kasey gets better with each installment.
There is a lot that has gone down with Kade and Ollie, and after the events in Model Investigator Kade is finding it very difficult to open up with Ollie and communicate well. Even though eventually everything is sorted out, this one put me through the ringer on the whole.
There is some great action, a really wonderful hurt/comfort thread throughout, and such palpable love between these characters. Sure, it's sometimes codependent and possibly bordering on unhealthy, but it works for them both. And it works for me reading it.
I love how well Kasey incorporates the side characters in this series - just enough to help the story along, but not enough to take the focus off Kade and Ollie. The only thing I would have wanted to be different would have been a dual POV from both Kade and Ollie. Because it's only from Kade's POV the story sometimes jumped to an explanation of something that happened off screen because Kade wasn't there to see it.
I also just really would have loved Ollie's POV.
That aside, can I just, once again, give props on the realistic timeframe for when someone gets hurt? I love that Kasey doesn't have characters bounce back from bullet wounds, or surgeries, or shock like they were nothing. I love that Kasey gives her characters time to heal.
I absolutely, thoroughly enjoyed this. I was totally engrossed and couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I was so happy because all of my questions were finally answered. All in all I had a terrific time reading this.
4.5 stars for this book and series. I loved it ❤️ Oliver & Kade were unique MCs. Both guys emotionally damaged and vulnerable trying to be strong for the other, hiding fears and disappearing into their own heads. They overcame a heap of trauma ( too much in my book ) and with the support of awesome friends they made it through to the other side. I would love love love another book just to see them happy - please can they have a happy ??? A really enjoyable series, I’m so glad I found it
4.5 rounded up, 'cause Ollie and Alice in Wonderland and Newt. Full review to come.
I've eagerly followed genderfluid Ollie, and his fierce protector Kade, through this series and I'm sad that it's ending but happy the final mysteries are solved. This last installment is told from Kade’s POV as both he and Ollie are still coping with the aftermath of trauma. Lissa Kasey has put these poor guys through the wringer in the last three stories and both are physically better but their mental health is another matter. Particularly Kade and his PTSD, mostly induced by his memories involving his evil, controlling father. He's holding too much in, because he worries far more about Ollie than himself.
I really enjoy Lissa’s range of diverse characters, and how she's drawn them all together into a quasi-family unit. There's lots of surprises in store, as in “you'll-never-guess-who-or-what”, while the riddles about Ollie’s past and Nathan’s death are answered. Ollie and Kade find that both of their pasts intersect in the present, and of course, someone has to get injured, again! It's not just a trip down the aisle for Kade and Ollie, it's an obstacle course. There's also intriguing touches of Alice Through the Looking Glass, referenced in unique ways throughout the story.
A few of the details seem rather far-fetched but they're supported with plausible background. It made the resolution really interesting and I learned a few pieces of history. The culmination is Kade and Ollie's wedding that had me all sniffly and sighing. As a bonus, along with the many unique characters, you really need to meet Newt, the panty-obsessed cat. I've recommended the series before but if you've been waiting, now's your chance to read it in its entirety.

Model Exposure is the fourth book in the Haven Investigations series and this story really nicely pulls the series together. I am not sure if this is the final book, but Kasey gives us both a happy ending for the men, as well as a resolution to all the various plot elements that have been in play over the series.
The book really divides into two parts for me. The first focuses on Kade and his mental breakdown in the aftermath of the kidnapping and other chaos. Kade is seeing danger at every turn, and his instinct to protect Ollie kinds of starts sending him over the edge. Kade has always been incredibly protective over Ollie. In fact, his sort of alpha need to take care of him, combined with a really paternalistic attitude toward Ollie, is something that has bugged me throughout the series. But here it does tie nicely with Kade’s mental state and we see him pretty much hit rock bottom before pulling things back together. I think this part works well, and is kind of a natural consequence of both what Kade has been through, as well as his intense need to care for Ollie. I liked seeing how the guys deal with things and more forward.
The second part of the story focuses on Ollie’s past, both the bigger picture in terms of his parents and his family life, and then more focused on Nathan and what was really going on with him. We learned at the end of the last book that Nathan was spying for Kade’s dad, so we get more revelations about that connection, as well as others who are involved. On top of that, we finally learn what really happened with Nathan. It is kind of fantastical what was really going on. You have to suspend some disbelief, honestly. But it definitely was an explanation I didn’t see coming at all and it really brings the series full circle to where we started with Nathan’s suicide. That said, things get a little crazy here. The bad guy really felt out of left field to me, and given how nicely the rest of the story ties together with the other books, this felt a little cheap to me in terms of payoff.
It was with a very heavy heart that I began ‘Model Exposure’, the fourth and final book, in Lissa Kasey’s ‘Haven Investigations’ series. It feels as if I’ve been right there with Ollie and Kade through all the upheavals, the joys, the laughter, the tears, the disappointments, the fear, the betrayals, and the revelations. I was ready to get the answers to so many questions but I was equally afraid to hear them. All I’ve ever wanted was for Ollie and Kade to be happy and for life to be peaceful and calm. I could only hope that the book would bring that and more.
“The only time I could breathe anymore was when he was in the room with me. It was irrational and I knew it was irrational. I just needed to figure out how to set aside this horrible dread. Moving beyond the depression, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion seemed impossible. Like the weight of an elephant on my chest, it never let up.”
One of the things I have always liked the best about these books is that each one is written in the point of view of one of the two main characters. Ollie voiced book one, Kade book two, Ollie book three, and Kade book four, this finale. It has given me such a unique perspective on each man’s personality and character traits. And in this book, it gave me insight into Kade’s mental health, his fears, his anxieties, and all of the things that scare him right down to the bone. The largest of these being if he actually lets Ollie know what’s going on in his mind, somehow Ollie will be disgusted, and leave him.
Call me a sap, call me a hopeless romantic, call me a dreamer, call me unrealistic. I don't care. I just loved Ollie and Kade. In the world of Kade and Ollie, love do exist. At least, I can 'pretend' that 'hey, some people can be crazy to each other, and cannot breathe without the half one' :) Because the real world is getting worse and worse every single day. I need to be around Ollie and Kade, and feel the love.
Of course, there's drama after drama, after drama. Surprise after surprise after surprise. But still, some mystery didn't resolve yet in this book. But please Lissa Kasey, don't let Ollie and Kade suffer again :(
As much as I hated for what happened to Kade and then Ollie, and cried for what happened to Ollie in his past, I was crying at the wedding. It's a beautiful wedding, right? But I don't think this series ended here, there's something this author wants us to know in the (near) future. Without torturing Ollie and Kade again, I hope.
I enjoyed reading this book so much, turned the pages with anticipation of "What if.." I'm happy I found Ollie and Kade. And cried like a proud Momma at their wedding, it was so beautiful! I adored Micah, Kade's teenage son, I think he need his own story. And I hope Jacob too, he deserves it! This is a happy ending with a promise of forever love between Ollie and Kade. Hell, they're married now. What else can be wrong? (Biting my nails groggily)

This book felt so messy. I get the feeling the plan was "bigger and better and badder" for the grand finale, but there was so much going on it felt chaotic and a bit aimless. There were so many knots that were hard to untangle from one another, so many ends left untied that were sort of shoved aside as if we were supposed to forget about them by the end, so many sudden twists that felt more jarring than surprising, and the ending felt very sudden and cutting and didn't really left everything resolved.
Also, given how much shade books two and three threw at Nathan, I was struggling a lot at first to care about what happened to him. And I'm not sure we're that clear on that after all. This book could have been better either divided to two separate books or with a lot less plot to untangle. And it really could have used and epilogue.
This series has been one adventure after the next, with astounding revelations coming left and right, and the latest and greatest contains even more! Written from Kade’s perspective this time, it took me a while to get used to being in his head, but the way he looks at the world sheds an entirely new light on the lives he and Ollie are building together. This is most definitely NOT a standalone novel. There is so much background that any reader needs to start from the beginning or risk being hopelessly lost and disappointed with Model Exposure.
Building on the events of the previous three books, Kade and Oliver once again leap into the fray, despite all that they want to do is be together and run Haven Investigations. Unfortunately, there are many aspects to the story arc that are unresolved, and allowing them to do their own thing isn’t going to happen. The plot is just as convoluted as you would expect it to be at four books in, with subplots galore. The pacing is on point, with nothing dragging or being rushed. I especially appreciated that aspect in terms of the healing required from injuries. So many authors have characters just miraculously heal, but that is not the case here. Ollie’s injuries are affecting his daily life, and I appreciate the workarounds written into the book.
The character growth is far and away the largest in Model Exposure, and watching them work through their challenges was an emotional roller coaster. There is a lot of hurt/comfort here, and seeing the love for Oliver through Kade’s eyes really makes you appreciate the duo at another entire level.
The peripheral characters once again create the richness I’ve come to expect in this series, but do so without taking any of the focus off the main characters. You don’t get so caught up in them that you forget the purpose of the scene.
The revelations supplied in this book are, in a word, staggering! For all the ideas in my head to be completely off point is a rarity, and I ended up just going with the flow – but found myself turning the pages faster because I simply had to know. *grin*
While I loved the first three books, I’m rating this installment at five full stars for the sheer power it radiated. I cannot recommend this series high enough. Model Exposure is the apex, a brilliant end to an equally brilliant arc. I hope the author is going to expand from this couple to focus on other guards and delve into their lives, because I am not ready to see this series end!

Model Exposure is Book 4 in Lissa Kasey's Haven Investigations series and CANNOT be read as a standalone. I know you're thinking here she goes again, but seriously, this series follows Kade and Ollie and must be read in order. This isn't even a case of not getting all the references if you don't read it in the appropriate order. There are many characters and storylines that will not make sense. You have been warned!!
Let me start by saying I absolutely love this series. It took me by surprise from the first book to the last. But, my plea to the author, can't you give Ollie and Kade a break already? I mean, Come On! I just had to get that out of the way because I said it many times reading this book. I went into this book thinking Ollie and Kade are in a good place. They've survived everything thrown at them, and it's now time for them to settle into their life. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. I knew the storyline of Nate and his death was left open, but good grief, I did not see any of the craziness that happens coming. Again, come on, can't they catch a break? Ok, I'm done pleading for Kade and Ollie's sanity.
Regardless of the outside forces that are continuing to destroy Ollie and Kade, they're managing to hold their relationship together. They're picking up the pieces in their lives and finding their new normal. At least that's what it appears is happening. I love Kade and Ollie's Alice in Wonderland date, and Kade's new tattoo. I love seeing Micah in their life and how they're all making their lives together. But, as typical with this series, there's a lot happening behind the scenes to destroy Kade and Ollie. But people underestimate the love between Kade and Ollie and the strength of their relationship. Happily, they manage to survive and come out in a better position. And, thankfully, we get Nate's story and closure on it. It was heartbreaking, as expected. I found out someone that was trustworthy, actually isn't but Ollie and Kade are able to work through that and at least know the truth.
Reading this series is exhausting! Even though I don't typically read over the top angsty stories, I don't regret it at all. And if given a chance to all over again, I'd definitely read them again. Through all the angst, tears, sadness and craziness, there's Ollie and Kade and their self-made family and their beautiful love. They make the roller coaster ride worth it! I highly recommend this series and forewarn you, that if you're going to start, make sure you have time to read all four books because you're not going to want to stop reading!
This title is not a standalone and really shouldn't be read as one. As such, I'm having a hard time separating this book from the rest; they build on each other. That said, there were some fantastic themes in this series and in this book. You've got a gender-fluid character, an MC who's former military, murder and mayhem, a genuine mystery, PTSD, disability, anxiety/depression, anorexia, and basically a spectrum of whattheactualfuck stuff that all gels nicely together without being too much. Let's face it, with so much going on, it could have easily pegged out on the bad side of the bullshit-o-meter. Thankfully, that didn't happen here.
I can't say too much without being spoilery, so I'll just say this. I loved Kade. Loved, loved, loved. He was almost unbelievable at first, a guy who had been through so much remaining so cheerful, open and optimistic smacked of disingenuousness ... but! We eventually learn that all is not sunshine and roses as it appears. Instead, Kade has done a remarkable job of dealing with most things, others he's stuffed down or run from, and still more he's forgotten about entirely. Ironically enough, the trauma he went through was the cause of some of the lack of memories he had about the trauma he went through. Weird I know, but it worked!
It probably didn't help that Ollie's voice in the first couple of books was just so loud. The things he was unwittingly caught up in stretched credibility a bit, but we don't find out about a lot of it until this book anyway, so no harm no foul. I loved the Alice in Wonderland thread throughout. Although that was largely Kade's influence, it truly felt like Ollie was down the rabbit hole half the time. I got it. Add Ollie's high volume to Kade's easygoing personality and it could have been easy for one to drown the other out, but no. They're both heard pretty equally, although the focus doesn't shift (almost) entirely to Kade until later on in the series. In between, there's quite enough external drama going on as it is and Ollie himself is a bit of a mess all around, even though it's mostly justified.
The character and relationship development in this series are stellar. It's not exactly insta-love although a long-term connection was there already even if there had never been an opportunity to nurture it. Ollie and Kade do not have an easy go of it and events really conspire against them, but they do the work, a lot of work, both separately and together. In this way, the author was able to lend quite a bit of realism to the relationship and cut into some of the implausibility inherent in an action-packed plot that crosses several books.
I caught myself being reminded occasionally of Mary Calmes'A Matter of Time series in that I had to stop and wonder sometimes how it was possible for two people to constantly be immersed in such life-altering crises. Ollie and Kade were, in a way, shades of Jory and Sam. There was just so much going on all the time. I think you get the idea. This was a relatively fast-paced read that had me praying on several occasions that the MCs would catch a freaking break already. Truthfully, all four books were like that.
Supporting characters were also well-fleshed out and likable, and I was satisfied with resolutions to crises and with the various intertwined themes and plotlines overall. I learned a great deal more about gender-fluidity which is something I've missed out on before in titles with similar characters. I feel like I've finally got a grasp on a concept I've never had enough experience with to understand. In that respect, Ollie was awesome. Oh! And his jacket at the end? I freaking want one so bad. So. Bad.
All in all, I enjoyed the series. The last book, this book, wrapped things up nicely and Ollie and Kade do end up getting their hard-won HEA. And hell, if they hadn't, I might have done something drastic, or criminal, or drastically criminal. It would have been bad, let's just leave it at that. So! Crisis averted! On to the next one. Read the series. I luuuuurved it.
Model Exposure (Haven Investigations #4) by Lissa Kasey 3.5 stars M/M Mystery Triggers: Murder, Betrayal, Suicide I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
So, I did read the first book in this series, but then missed the middle stories. I would suggest that you read all of them, as even though I knew the characters, I felt that I was missing a huge part of the story.
So, while this book was interesting and had a lot going on, I just didn't connect with the characters like I did in the first story.
This had betrayal, hidden plots, twists and turns and hidden agendas all throughout the story. I really liked the mystery and thriller parts of this book. I found them to be well developed, interesting and engaging.
The romance part of the story was less than stellar. I found it to be almost a distraction - a nuisance. I wish, actually, that this had only been the mystery/thriller rather than a romance/thriller.
Overall, this had a good story line and I did enjoy the story.
Not sure is there are more books to come is this series (pretty please Lissa) but it has been an amazing ride reading these 4 books.
Poor Kade and Ollie has been through so so much and are still dealing with all the after effects. This book certainly tied up a lot of loose ends, and so not how I expected. Amazing ending, thank you for giving the guys some happy.
This is absolutely one of my favorite series. I can't stop reading once I start, and I seem to hold my breath through many parts of it. There is always a surprise coming around the corner, and sometimes they're even pleasant. A thrill ride with main characters you just have to love. I'm worried because this one No doubt I'll be looking for more from this author.
The last book of the series, and instead of getting better, the plot holes multiplied and getting bigger. Sorry, but I just couldn't suspend my disbelief anymore. I also couldn't deal with mental illness, even if it's only temporary, TSTL characters, and all the talks about having kids.
I am so sad to see Lissa Kasey’s Haven Investigations series end. I have enjoyed these novels, from book one to this, the fourth installment, Model Exposure, thoroughly, and have grown to love Ollie and Kade as I am sure most of the fans of this series will have as well. The love story that Ms. Kasey has created for these two is strong and lasting, and it’s had to be, considering everything these two men have been through on their journey together. Having survived yet another kidnapping by his maniacal father, and finally discovered just who has been behind all the vile acts that had been attributed to Kade all these years, one would think that life would begin to normalize for Ollie and Kade. Both are recovering from trauma—Ollie a stroke that leaves him susceptible to life threatening seizures, and Kade, now an amputee struggling with PTSD and a sketchy memory, at best. The two men deserve a rest, but, unfortunately, life is not done with them yet.
Someone is after Ollie, and wants him dead. Apparently his deceased brother, Nathan, had hidden some very important facts about their past from Ollie and Kade, and when the two men find out that someone near to them has betrayed them, they will be devastated by the discovery. Once again they are in a fight for their lives, but this time Kade will not just be haunted by memories he can barely survive; he’ll nearly fall apart completely before he acknowledges that he needs serious help in sorting through all that has happened to him. The race for the truth is on, and this time the journey is no less deadly than the last.
So, so much is revealed in this last novel that my head is still reeling from it all. What an incredibly clever novelist Lissa Kasey has grown to be over the years. Her storytelling is impeccable, as are the mysteries she weaves and the romance she nurtures in her books. Kade and Ollie are amazing together—never perfect, deeply flawed, and yet, they are so right for each other you would be hard-pressed to imagine them with anyone else. Their chemistry remains unscathed and flawless, as does the intrigue that surrounds them at every turn. I hung on to the edge of my seat on this one, mind blown over who ended up being the betrayer in this story, and shaking my head at the intricate web of lies that had been laid in order for the person to succeed. This was just an outstanding mystery, one that really served up an outstanding ending to this wonderful series.
I cannot say more than this: If you have not read the Haven Investigations series by author Lissa Kasey, you are truly missing out. This last book, Model Exposure, is a phenomenal ending to a stellar group of stories, and one I highly recommend to you!
I enjoyed this book a lot but felt lost on the backstory. I would strongly suggest reading the first three books in the series. I really enjoyed this author’s writing and the way she told the story. She captures the characters in such a way that you can’t help but fall in love with them or hate them. She really brought me into the story even with me not reading the first three. Which, by the way, I’m going to read.
Ollie was my favorite character. He’s a designer and model that looks better than most women and me. He really embraces his feminine side and is just such a beautiful soul. He gets overwhelmed easily and needs to slow down and take care of himself a bit, but with guidance, does pretty good. And he loves Kade with all his heart and can’t wait to be his husband.
Kade is a recent amputee that struggles with so much that has happened to him in his life. He owns Haven Investigations and has a wonderful crew to help him out. But his heart and soul belongs to Ollie. He loves this man so much and can’t wait to wed him. He’s a bit overprotective but means well.
These two have not had it easy by any means. Kade’s father is still causing havoc in their lives, and Kade does not feel safe going anywhere with Ollie without security. I absolutely loved the date to the Rabbit hole, as I call it. It was so much fun and unique. But when will the madness stop? Can these two just have their wedding with friends? Will they ever be able to just live their lives without looking over their shoulders? Will Kade ever get passed his past and learn to live without so much fear? All these can be answered for you when you read the book.
This story was the best of the bunch, but still only 4 stars cos of the typos and incorrect word usage [Dreamspinner Press, tut tut]. I really liked Kade and Ollie as a couple....they just fit, like two halves of a whole and I was happy that Nathan was exonerated. Not going into the plot too much, but let me just say, with friends like a certain person, who'd need enemies?? And the loony family that Kade had...well that particular plotline wasn't fully resolved as far as I'm concerned. I cannot believe that his utter control freak of a father did everything he did just because Kade was gay, there must've been more to it than that, surely.
Unfortunately, I remember quite clearly how horrific some of the atrocities were in the various wars around the Balkans in the 1990's. The way some of the leaders, Milosevic in particular, were completely unrepentant about their roles and those of others in the mass slaughter that took place, it beggars belief.
This was the most emotional for me out of the previous reads.... I was so damn frustrated with Kade through the book I wanted to smack so sense into him... I was like why is he on the edge like this.. All crazy and sh$t but the author did an excellent job in bringing everything to light and it was like a light bulb went off ... I GOT IT!! and everything feel into place... I loved the ending and finally getting the understanding of Nathan and his death... I'm also glad to see Ollie and Kade their HEA... I do want more from these characters and hope there are future books to come ... I want Jacob to find love too !! He's definitely one of my favorite secondary characters.... The growth of these characters was awesome thru all 4 books!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND😀😀😀😀
This series has officially jumped the shark. What an OTT mess. Kade being a man in his mid-thirties shouldn’t possess the mental stability of a love-sick teenager. WTF was the matter with him?
This book of was told in his POV and I can’t even begin to tell you what an exhausting mess that was. The only thing his dialogue consisted of was how much he loved Ollie. He had not one coherent thought throughout the entire book.
His obsession with Ollie bordered on creepy. IMO What Kade felt for Ollie didn’t seem genuine, what it felt like was the ramblings of a man getting ready to go off the deep end. His PTSD managed to swallow him whole and he was one emotionally unstable step away from a murder/suicide. I’m am completely and utterly done with this series.
OK, it may take a while for my brain to get all the twists and turns of this book figured out, but this series has been one hell of an unexpected ride that I have thoroughly enjoyed!
If you had set down and made a list of all of the things that could have gone wrong for these two wounded but determined men... you would have missed something! Trust me... the list was practically endless and usually quite unexpected... grrr
All through the final scene I just keep waiting for the other shoe to drop... but, I suppose that Ms. Kasey had finally decided that Ollie and Kade deserved their perfect fairytale moment... and what a beautiful moment it was!
3.5* but we find out the answers to the questions that have come all the way through from book 1 and Kade and Ollie get their fairytale ending. Ollie’s family history comes out and we find out who and where he came from and maybe some of the reasons for Nathan doing what he did. Kade makes the break from him family so we don’t really see them anymore but the reach of his fathers spying is still felt - and I cant remember now but I don’t think I found out why they picked on Kade. Some changes of dynamics in the group around Kade and Ollie after events but they all come together for the wedding.
Ollie and Kane are trying to recover from the traumatic events that have happened to them. Unfortunately, more trouble is headed their way. Ollie finds out more about his family, and Kane tries to keep Ollie safe while dealing with his own issues.
This was DARK (with a happy sunshine ending!), having Kane dealing with the residual effects of what happened to him in the last book, and Ollie (as always) dealing with being Ollie. Ollie and Kane were both going through things, they stopped talking to one another (grrrr), and then the new trouble on top of that. Not my favourite of the series, but definitely better than the previous book.
I really love this series. I love Kade and Ollie a lot. Especially love the wedding, and just how much love they had for each other. I like that she had Some of the characters able to forgive each other. And the growth she had Kade and Ollie do in their relationship. Certainly didn’t expect some things that happened in the story (I don’t want to give out spoilers). Was not disappointed her books are always great to read . I still think she has Ollie modeled (no pun intended) after Andreja Pejić.😀
Well that was quite a ride. Hard to believe that everything finally got resolved and Ollie and Kade can at long last get their happy ever after. In some ways this book was probably the toughest read as things finally fell apart for Kade entirely but at the same time it only made him and Ollie a stronger couple. There were some stunning revelations about some characters and I honestly didn't see any of them coming. This was such a strong series I wish that I'd found these books earlier but the waits between them might have killed me a little.
Haven Investigations a 4 book series that engages you from the first page to end of these books. You will have laughter, crying, suspense, and the love. Please read the series in order to understand all the characters who are in all of the books. Couldn't put them down.
Book 1 Model Citizen Book 2 Model Bodyguard Book 3 Model Investigation Book 4 Model Exposure
After much debate I finally read the Haven Investigation series. This series really brings to light mental illness and homophobia. I'm so glad to see that Oliver and Kade finally got their happy ending. They worked hard for it, although the last few chapters seem to be a bit rushed, the ending was beautiful! Another emotionally filled and satisfying series by Lissa Kasey!
