Detection Detail by Terri Reed
Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit #1. Harlequin contemporary from the Love Inspired Suspense line of Inspirational romance.
K-9 officer Nelson and his accelerator-detector dog, Diesel, investigate a car crash and a woman previously accused of arson. When she is targeted in the investigation, Nelson commits more time in searching for the right answers.

Gotta love the dogs that can do a job better than us humans can.
Suspense, action and twists with the mystery as it’s uncovered. I didn’t like that Nelson assumed she was guilty to start with but to give him credit, he continues to investigate. The romance is very small part of the story and references to faith count about a half dozen but aren’t too preachy or intrusive. A good action romance with a secondary character you’ll love in Diesel.

This is the fast paced find of romantic suspense I wish all of them were.
I liked the characters and all the action.

BUT.
-the audiobook was terrible. By that I mean it was read in an unpleasant tone and reading pace.
-the romance was totally insta-love.
-mystery was predictable

I do think I will continue the series though. I like the doggies🐶.

This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the first book in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series. The characters was so great and loved all the characters. This book is fill of twist and turns with a ton of action. I love the action and suspense in this book. The romance was really little. The suspense and action was most of this book. I really enjoyed this book, and I also love their was a mystery that the main character was trying to solve on her own while the current stuff is going on. The end was so good, and I loved the ending so much. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Love Inspired Suspense) or author (Terri Reed) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Description: Diesel is an accelerant-detection dog–his handler is K-9 officer Nelson Rivers. Investigating a fiery car crash leads them to Mia Turner, acquitted of arson. But before he can ask her a single question, he must defend her from a gunman. Both have trust issues but both trust Diesel. Will they trust each other enough because someone is out to kill Mia?

Review:
In reading Detection Detail, I found a new author to follow. And hopefully, I haven’t read the last of Diesel.

This is the first of the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series, each to be written by a different author. The series is from Harlequin’s “Love Inspired Suspense” group. Their tag: Courage. Danger. Faith. This first book certainly meets that criteria.

There are multiple mysteries and thus, suspense throughout the book. Yes, there is a romance brewing during all the suspense but the swirling multiple situations that has Mia’s life falling apart — not to mention, shooting at her just as Nelson & Diesel arrive. The plot and the pacing kept me reading. At least I got a load of laundry in before being trapped in my recliner.

The POV is told from both Mia and Nelson — would love to know what Diesel thought.

For me, a five-star book must have rich characters. Ones I can see in my mind’s eye. And characters becoming people I like. Puppy dogs are always a plus. Terri Reed does a great job in developing Mia and Nelson so that you understand why both are skittish about fully trusting each other. Even though I figured out the ending before the end — I didn’t know *how* it would end.

The character’s Christian faith is just there. By that I mean, it is part of them and never feels like the author thought, “Oh, I better put something Biblical here.” That’s always a plus for this reviewer.

Amazon lists the coming books in this series – each being published about a month apart:

Book 1: Detection Detail by Terri Reed
Book 2: Ready to Protect by Valerie Hansen
Book 3: Hiding in Montana by Laura Scott
Book 4: Undercover Assignment by Dana Mentink
Book 5: Defending from Danger by Jodie Bailey
Book 6: Tracking a Killer by Elizabeth Goddard
Book 7: Explosive Revenge by Maggie K. Black
Book 8: Rescue Mission by Lynette Eason

Terri Reed has given us an enjoyable suspenseful book with a bit of romance thrown in. Yes, I recommend Detection Detail, the first book in this series.

I received a complimentary e-ARC copy of Detection Detail via NetGalley from the publisher, HARLEQUIN – Romance (U.S. & Canada), Love Inspired Suspense. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I due protagonisti hanno entrambi dei seri problemi a fidarsi degli altri, con ovvie ragioni, soprattutto per lei. La soluzione del mistero è abbastanza ovvia fin dall'inizio, ma a parte questo la lettura è stata piacevole.

Wheeeeeee!!!!! Another multi-authored K-9 continuity series from Love Inspired Suspense and all the books are available on audible! I love the way we're introduced to the K-9 team and the intriguing start to the over-arcing suspense thread that will be woven through each book. And can we give a nod to the genius of naming an accelerant detection dog Diesel?!

So, the suspense in this first book is a mix of cold-case and present danger and trying to figure out if they are related. An intense meet-cute starts things off with a bang. :-) I'm issuing a whiplash warning for this twisty turny plot! And there are a few tummy-flipping reveals that kept me on the edge of my seat right to the very end. Eeeepppp!!! And the romance is just as captivating!

I listened to the audible edition narrated by Neil Hellegers and, while I prefer female narrators, I did enjoy this one. (But I'm happy the rest of the series has female narrators. Just my personal preference.)

This one was a miss for me. I managed to finish because it was a review book, but I never clicked with the characters and I found the conversations often stilted and unrealistic, such as having characters’ conversation to explain concepts to other characters in the same career (conversations that would either never happen or be met with serious eye rolls in real life), etc. There were also a number of scenarios that seemed to be really a stretch for my believability.

I’ll read more of this author and series later on, but this book in particular just wasn’t for me.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a free reading copy. A favorable review was not required.

This is book 1 in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series. While each book has a different author - characters and events are weaved through and these are best enjoyed in order.

I enjoyed this closed door romantic suspense. When Mia was a teen, she and a friend were tried for a crime they didn't commit. While Mia was found not guilty, her friend Leslie has been in jail for the last 10 years. Mia has returned to her home town and has renewed her efforts to exonerate Leslie. Nelson & his dog, Diesel, encounter Mia when investigating another crime. It becomes apparent that Mia's life is in danger.

It's kind of instalove, but Nelson & Mia are together non-stop for days on end - so it worked for me. Lots of action and enjoyable pacing.

It's also fun that while some of the mystery is solved, there's a lot more that is yet to be discovered in future books. I enjoyed the glimpses of Nelson's teammates and their dogs. Looking forward to more of them as the series continues.

Narration:
My first time listening to Neil Hellegers. I enjoyed his narration. There's a large cast of characters and he did a good job giving them unique voices. He also added to the emotions and suspense for the story.

I love starting a new series and I especially love K-9 dogs! They are amazing and Diesel is one of those! He is an arson dog for the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit. His handler is Nelson Rivers and I enjoyed his character. The first book in the series always introduces all the characters and I can see that there will be great books ahead with some fantastic story lines and characters! When Nelson is sent to interrogate a suspect, Mia Turner, he walks right into gunfire! He's not expecting that! After getting to know Mia, he discovers that he actually believes she is innocent in HIS case but he can't ignore the fact that someone is out to kill her so he sticks by her to find out who. I liked Mia immensely. So much bad luck has come her way and it would be easy to give up and move from the area where she lives but she's a plucky woman and she's going to find out who's after her! She's also going to clear her friend (who is in prison) of an arson charge and set her free. Nelson and Mia and Diesel all had great chemistry and I can't wait for the other books!

I am honored to have received an ARC of this wonderful story because I am a huge fan of this author's work and a sucker for any novel with a dog on the cover :-) The author has outdone herself -- I think this story has the most compelling heroine storyline arc. She starts as an alleged arsonist.... who would guess that readers would be going on such an intense journey.

I need to read more of this series. I need to know about the baby!

K-9 officer Nelson Rivers and his accelerant-detection dog, Diesel, are called to the scene of a fiery car crash. There is a woman who is unconscious and it appears that a baby is missing. Following the clues, they are led to a woman, Mia Turner, who was accused of arson at an earlier time. While talking to Mia, somone tries to kill her. Nelson thinks she might be innocent, otherwise who and why are they trying to kill her. She is also being harassed by someone, she believes it is a new business owner, but things get ramped up and she is in serious danger. She is also trying to prove her best friend innocent of the arson she got off on. Can Nelson help her get to the bottom of the crimes?

Detection Detail is a romantic suspense story, featuring K-9 handlers and their canine partners. I enjoy K-9 stories very much, as I love learning about the various dogs, the different types of jobs they hold, the training and their work. This story is full of twists and turns, with a lot of danger and risky situations. There is a lot of chemistry between Nelson and Mia, but they do not act upon it until the very end of the story. I thought I knew who was behind the harassment and attempts on Mia's life and I actually guessed right, but the story still had my interest until the end. The story of the victim of the crash and the possible missing child is not solved at this point as this story continues throughout the series. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Neil Hellegers. He does a nice job with the story, especially as it is told from Nelson's POV. If you enjoy K-9 stories with some romance and suspense, then I recommend you pick this one up.

All the clues point to Mia Turner, but Nelson Rivers wonders if it could all be a set up.

A fast paced read with escalating stakes and suspense. I was quickly drawn into this book, as Nelson and Mia work together to clear her name. There was non-stop action and it kept me guessing throughout.

Nelson and Mia are both likable heroes, and I liked that they bonded over their shared faith. There is a lot going on to keep them on their toes, making it a book that I didn't want to put down!

Overall, a fantastic read from beginning to end. Great start to a new series, with an engaging plotline and fantastic characters.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Mia is trying to figure out who framed her and her best bestfriend long ago leaving her with a bad name and her best in jail for something they didn't commit. When another fire close by occurs K-9 officer Nelson River and his dog look into Mia. What he didn't expect for her a person person to be trying to gun her down and after threats just a mess and they'll do everything they can to figure out who is behind all of this.

I loved how much of a loyal friend Mia was. But then again it could also be the constant reminder of how much of an outcast those in her hometown was treating her. Mia was only trying to figure out what happened in the past and to help her friend and it seemed like the deeper she got into things the worse it kept getting for her. It was interesting seeing how the process when with her and Nelson diving deeper into the case. I loved that there was plenty going on to keep me hooked and it was overall an enjoyable read.

Detection Detail was an okay read. I enjoyed it from the beginning, but there were some moments I got annoyed and it was difficult at times to remember who all the characters were.

Still, it was enjoyable to listen to and I loved the K9. Looking forward to continuing the series.

Eh, the characters have no chemistry and the plot felt silly. I can usually ignore the praying in Christian fiction, but it stuck out, possibly because of generally awkward dialog. Ha, there was also not enough dog time for the K9 aspect to hook me.

The story line expected and boring. I did not realize that this was a murder mystery and a romance novel - did not expect the romance part, which was cheesy.

I listened to this book and the narrator had a monotone voice, which was difficult to listen to.

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Detection Detail. This is book one in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit. Terri is one of my favorite authors so I was excited to get this one in the mail. This story is well-written, action-packed, and full of intrigue. I know you're going to love it.

Officer Nelson Rivers and his K-9, Diesel puzzled over a mysterious car fire. The fire led him to a woman that had been previously accused of arson. He soon found that Mia is a target and he must keep her safe. She might just be innocent. Can he trust her?

Mia Turner runs Jem's Rental. Her Uncle Jem had left it to her. Now her business is in trouble thanks to a business rival Ron Davies. It looks like she might lose the place. Is someone trying to destroy her or her business? The police have been no help with her complaints. Along came a K-9 officer, can she trust him?

An exciting journey to find who was sabotaging her business and trying to kill her. God has a plan for these two, a good plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. A plan for peace and not for destruction even in this time of turmoil. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life.

Detection Detail by Terri Reed is a K9 romantic suspense. This is the first book in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series. The author introduced several co workers for Nelson and I had a hard time keeping up with all of them. However I look forward to other books with them and it didn’t take away from the story.

Nelson and Diesel (great name for an accelerate detection dog) were investigating a car fire. A very interesting lead, that I will not spoil for you, leads them to Mia. The car fire and the victim that is in a coma is an underlying theme that I think will go through several books. This book focused on Mia who is investigating on her own a fire that her best friend is serving time in jail for. Mia is convinced that she is innocent. She receives several threats against her as she gets closer to the truth.

Although the ending was not a surprise I thoroughly enjoyed these two characters and Diesel. I would recommend the book if you like a great story and don’t mind not being surprised by the ending.

Was Mia Turner and her best friend guilty of burning down a warehouse and killing the mayor's son a decade earlier? Did she have anything to do a car fire, and a possible child abduction? And are K-9 Officer Nelson Rivers and his yellow lab accelerant sniffing partner Diesel her source of protection from someone who's trying to destroy her business and her life? Or do they represent a different kind of danger - the romantic kind?

This is the first book of Love Inspired Suspense's Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series. Terri Reed, besides telling the story of Mia and Nelson (and Diesel), is setting up other mysteries which this story doesn't solve. That's what the seven other books of this series will do.

Terri Reed is becoming one of my favorite authors. I've read four of her novels, all parts of K-9 series. This one is great, with surprises and two strong lead characters... make that three - I keep forgetting Diesel!

I really enjoyed this story, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

"Detection Detail" is a romantic suspense novel. It's a start of a new series and brings up other mysteries to be solved (like the burned car) as well as the mystery that was solved in this book. Mia's determined to prove her friend innocent of arson and free her from prison, but she can't seem to make any progress. Just as Nelson drops by the question her about her hair being found at a crime scene, someone attacks her--a rival who wants her to close her business, or someone worried she might find that proof?

The suspense was created by repeated attacks on Mia, including a few attempts thwarted by the accelerant-detection dog. The main characters were likable and reacted realistically to events. Mia and Nelson worked together to solve who really set the long-ago fire while Nelson helped keep Mia alive. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable romantic suspense.

I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

This is the first in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series. Terri Reed does a good job of starting the series. “Detection Detail,” is well written with a brief introduction to the main characters and their K-9 partners. This storyline was full of action and kept me guessing for a bit. Even when I figured out the “who,” I was still trying to figure out the “why” and “how.”

Nelson Rivers and his K-9 partner, Diesel, accidentally stumble upon a cold case while checking out a current one. Mia Turner and her friend, Lindsey, were wrongfully accused of a deadly arson several years ago. Lindsey was found guilty and is in prison. Mia is trying to find the evidence to prove her friend innocent. However someone doesn’t like Mia’s investigation and starts making attempts on her life. Can Nelson and Diesel keep her safe?

I love the suspense and mystery in this book. There was romance too. From the vehicle fire, to the crimes committed against Mia, it just kept getting more suspenseful. The K-9 crew added a lot of intrigue, as always. Mia’s determination to clear a friend in prison just kept adding to the complicated details of solving several crimes. Was a fellow graduate of Mia’s responsible for all of these crimes, or was there another person or persons responsible. Nelson and Diesel had their hands full trying to solve the missing baby question, crimes being committed against Mia, Mia trying to prove her friend’s innocence, and just trying to stay alive.
I absolutely loved this book, buy it, and read it, you will not be sorry, you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.
