First Contact… When ambitious journalist Zenni Greer snuck into a House of Payne charity event, she’d hoped to discover what made the famous tattoo studio tick. What she found was a furious tattooist who didn’t appreciate her snooping around in his booth. When he threw her out the door—literally—she vowed to never cross paths with that terrifying man again.
First Impressions… Talon Levesque, former military police officer and tattooist at House of Payne, isn’t thrilled to be landed with the task of babysitting Zenni when her paper assigns her to profile him and his fellow tattooists. But his first impression of the nosy reporter changes when he sees Zenni in action. Her intellect, her compassion, her sharp wit, her pixie-like perfection—all that and more make for one sexy riddle he’s only too happy to solve.
Lasting Consequences No way can Zenni write a profile on Talon. He’s too dominating, too arrogant, too pushy… and too damn hot to be legal. She can’t resist his dirty-talking seduction, but she also can’t resist his mysterious past the military has labeled “classified.” When clues to a secret rescue mission that Talon was involved in fall into her lap, she has to decide what’s more important—her career, or Talon?

***This is the twelfth and final book in the HOUSE OF PAYNE series. This contemporary romance includes a rocky prologue, a satisfying epilogue and a whole lot of sexy-times shenanigans in between, with an Alpha male that will make your toes curl. No cheating, no love triangles, no cliffhangers. HEA guaranteed. Due to adult language and sexual content, this book is not intended for people under the age of eighteen.***
If there is one thing that is consistent about the books in this series, it is that they are one-sitting reads! Talon was no exception, as I couldn’t put it down until I had reached the end and saw how Talon and Zenni got their HEA. This seemed doubtful considering how they met, but once Talon got the lay of the land, nothing was stopping him from being with Zenni. He laid down a few times with a few people, including Payne and Scout, but his biggest challenge was Zenni herself. Closed off, locked up, and proud of it, Zenni’s life shaped her in ways she has trouble changing. Luckily, she has some amazing people on her side to help her navigate the scary and new waters she is in. Some family ties amended, some stories to uncover, but really, Talon is the story of a man and a woman falling in love and figuring out how to make that work for them. And it was great to be there for the adventure <3
This review is for an ARC copy of House of Payne: Talon.
So sad to say goodbye to one of my favorite series.
Only Stacy Gail can get me to enjoy a book with a heroine whose job I have absolutely no interest in reading about.
Characters had depth, the storyline flowed well and the steam factor was off the charts. There is a backstory here that blew me away and secondary characters were an amazing supporting cast.
Zenni is a journalist working in the gossip pages of a local paper. She really wants to move into a more senior role there and just needs to get her big break to achieve this. When she gate crashes an event at the House of Payne she is discovered and given the heave ho by none other than Talon Levesque. When I say heave ho, he physically removes her from the building with a don’t let the door hit you on the way out kind of farewell.
Zenni has always wondered what makes the famous tattoo establishment so successful and was hoping to find out that night. Several months later she has been assigned an official task there to interview and spotlight each artist. She is hoping to avoid Talon Levesque, after what happened that night she is terrified of him. Sure he is a good looking guy but he is a monster that she plans to steer clear of.
The odds are not in Zenni’s favour. Talon is the person assigned to greeting her and showing her around. He has reservations about her being in the building after last time but he soon sees that she is very professional and passionate about her craft. In fact, she’s kinda cute, like a little Pixie – and that’s her nickname from now on.
‘Nothing wrong with being delicate. Makes a man feel all fierce and protective, having a little pixie curled up against him. I can’t imagine anything more addictive than that.’
Having to spend so much time with Talon is at first very intimidating for Zenni, things do get better eventually but this guy is a full on alpha who is used to getting his own way. When he sets his sights on Zenni as being someone he wants to be with – in every way – he proves very hard to resist. All his sexy talk and constant flirtation eventually comes to a very intimate outcome for them both. These two are smoking hot together!
‘He fucked her. Claimed her. And it was beautiful. If only it could last forever.’
Zenni has never been with someone like this before, she has major trust issues that stem from a traumatic childhood experience but she is working on that. Her relationship with her father gets better all the time and he can see the difference in her since she started seeing Talon. Things seems to be going well, as long as they are going Talon’s way that is.
Zenni is really enjoying the work she is doing with the House of Payne and she is getting well deserved recognition for her writing. When she discovers some information that could potentially expose things from the past for Talon, she is feeling conflicted about what to do with it. Talon knows that he is behaving irrationally at times with Zenni but this pixie has him in knots, she has burrowed her way into his very being and he just wants her to never leave.
It’s been too long since I read a story with a domineering alpha male so I loved that Talon was like this. I think that Zenni loved this about him too, even though at times it really challenged her. He was also really thoughtful and nurturing so they eventually found the right balance. I have only read a few of the House of Payne stories and I really enjoyed this final part which nicely wraps everything up. Great series!
Oh wowie, wow wow, I can not believe we have come to the end of this series!! This book is definitely bittersweet for me. Why you ask? I discovered the House of Payne in Inked: An Anthology with Jade C. Jameson, J.M Walker, and Stacy Gail. Stacy was a newbie author to me at the time, you gotta check out the other two ladies as they are awesome, but all it took was Payne to have me hooked on her. See sweet because I had found a whole new world, bitter because it’s ending. HoP’s employees jump off the pages and make me think it could be a show like Ink Masters!! They all are unique and all are kick ass heroes and heroines alike. Like any reader I have my fav characters: Max, cue heart and drool emjois , Sass and Alice, girls you kick ass literally , and I will miss them however we are here today to talk about Zennie and Talon. Talon, ex military tattooist who seriously could have had a job at Psi if he hadn’t been a artist, he’s that buff tough and has all the right stuff!!! Zennie, reporter, who is a artist with words, because let’s face it not everyone can put pen to paper wither for facts or fiction and she has a killer name! Zenobia, so unique! From the first meeting of these two until the end, I didn’t know if I should throw my phone, cheer, or cry. I ended up settling for shouting and cheering in my head and crying. Zennie has come to the house to do a few artist interviews, this is course after a first down right horrible meeting with Talon. No one cared very much for her before had because she is a reporter for the gossip section of her he newspaper, but she has back g dreams. Talon is who is charged to show her around, because of the awful first meeting. What happens next is two people learn first impressions can be changed, but the road from being single to being a couple is realizing that you have to think a little differently for two then ya do for one, and family isn’t just blood it’s who you choose to stand by your side and no matter what everyone is a little crazy. Thank you Stacy for bringing us into your world and being ok with the drool emoji, thank Creator of the Universe for blessing her with a awesome brain that gives us SPIN OFFS. I leave this review saying you will adore this couple and have if you haven’t read any of the other books in this series Zennie and her profiles will make you want too.
Another HoP winner! I'm never disappointed with these these books and Talon and Zenni are a great addition. I wasn't sure I was going to warm up to Talon. He's pretty bossy and he's a big, scary dude (Zenobia's words!). But he's got this soft inner core along with fierce protectiveness and loyalty. By the way, that also can describe Zenni, so you can see how we've got a great match. I loved how he insisted they talk their issues out and not walk away. The humor and banter through this book had me laughing out loud. And that military secret sub-story nearly had me biting my nails.
It's been a fabulous ride with these books. I've been a lover of the series from the beginning and I'm sad to see the series come to a close, however I can't wait to see what Ms. Gail bring us next. ❤️
I absolutely loved Talon and Zenni's story. It was the perfect end to a whole series of books full of characters we fell in love with and became invested in their happily ever after. Talon and Zenni are no different. They are the perfect foil for each other, and you find yourself diving in to see how they get to their happily ever after. The writing is wonderful as always, and the story flows smoothly along without any hiccups. Thank you, Ms. Gail, for bringing us back into The House of Payne, and for giving us a wonderful ending to a great series.
I have a very VERY hard time saying goodbye to a beloved series. Endings are always bittersweet for me and it's only the tease that we'll see the next generation of the House of Payne crew that's keeping me from becoming a soggy mess. (Yes, my cold, black heart has fully embraced the men and women from House of Payne and I DON'T WANT TO SAY GOODBYE. So don't leave me hanging, do you hear me? GIMME THE KIDS' STORIES!)
Anywho. Enough about my issues. Let's talk about Zenni and Talon. These two don't have the best first meeting. In fact, Zenni tries EXTREMELY hard to stay away from the House after that explosive encounter. But an article's an article and she's going to have to face her demons and enter the hallowed grounds of the House of Payne to get the info she needs to get this article written.
Zenni's personal demon in this instance is Talon-shaped and has an intimidating glare. He's surly and intense and he scared the pants off her in their first encounter. But he's not a bad guy. And when he finds out why he was assigned to escort Zenni around, he lets Payne know IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS that it was not cool. Then he does his level best to show Zenni that he's not a big, scary bad guy despite how it seems.
Guuuuys, Zenni and Talon are everything I love about HoP couples. He's intimidating and intense, but he's willing to own up to his mistakes. She's straightforward and painfully honest and she isn't one to back down easily. She also has a past that's given her some trust issues. So these two butt heads and throw off some serious sparks and soon they're tangling the sheets as they figure things out.
A rough first meeting, a few secrets, a woman who has a hard time depending on others, and a man who sees into her heart. Talon and Zenni fit right into the hard-loving, hard-working, driven men and women that Payne has gathered under his roof. It's hard to say goodbye, but BOY did their romance hit it out of the park.
Saving the best for last? It’s hard to say with this group of talented, sexy tattooists and their other halves. Talon is certainly one of my favs. He’s a hunky former military police with a certain set of skills that goes a long way to keeping his Pixie safe. Zenni aka Pixie is one of my favs too. She’s the pint-sized powerhouse journalist that is always after the truth and says it like it is. Other than the weird name I loved her. After a rough start, she and Talon makes amends and find a connection that’s sizzling. I love his alpha tendencies where she’s concerned and his need to protect and defend. Zen is always pushing to move up the journalism ladder and find more fulfilling stories than fluff and gossip. House of Payne might be an avenue for better things if she can nail the interviews and write a compelling piece. That success seems to be tied to Talon and she gets over the fear factor to see what’s behind the scary exterior. I loved their fast moving romance with tons of steam and hot love. I’m sad that this is the end of this outstanding series. I hope we get a nex-gen in the future with all those kiddos the House folks are popping out. This is an unique series with a great group of characters and a fabulous family atmosphere along with the sexy romances. I’m going to miss these folks! Worth the read!
As sad as I am to see the end of the House of Payne series, once again, Stacy nailed it. Each set if characters in this series has pulled me in and immersed me in a world I wish were real if just so I can visit. Her brilliance in storyline and her combination of suspense, romance and humor are the perfect trifecta to make the final chapter of the House unforgettable.
Pixie, you kick but take no prisoners whirlwind of chaos I absolutely adore you! Talon you are a giant marshmallow filled teddy bear who I seriously would not want to anger
Pixie seems to find herself in a bit of a predicament. Trust me that is putting it very mildly. She wants to move out of the pits and into the big leagues but to do that she needs a real story and her nose is telling her there is a story behind the doors of the House of Payne Talon has served his time and does not give leeway to liars and thieves especially ones who crash charity events Cute pixie or not - she is out of here
My heart kind of cracked for Talon when he realized how Pixie saw him. I don't think it ever mattered before or he just never realized. And Pixie with her independent streak - a slightly angsty truth - had a hard time seeing past her barriers Their connection is almost instant even if it takes them a bit to acknowledge it The chemistry between these two was tangible - they made me laugh, and at times groan in frustration The two of them are perfect for each other
When I came to the final page I took a moment to digest that this was the end for the family of House of Payne I am sad to say goodbye - I know that I will see some of them again
This series - hands down - is one of the best series I have ever read Great storylines - Characters that stay with you long after you close their books- Friendship, Family, Angst, Laughter, Suspense, Romance Everything a solid saga should offer
I'm not going to lie, I'm super sad that Talon is the last book in this amazing series, and I'm so not ready to say goodbye. With that being said, Talon was the perfect book to end it all no matter how much we're not ready to see it go. Zenni is a journalist who is trying to get a good story so she snuck into the House of Payne charity event, and Talon was the one who made her, so he literally threw her out, and I mean literally. It scared her pretty badly & she swore she would never come across that man's path again, but the best laid plans amirite?! She actually does come across his path after her paper assigns her to write a story on Talon & the rest of the House of Payne folks, AND he's tasked with babysitting her which he's sure not happy about. However, the more time he spends with this beautiful girl, the more he realizes that maybe just maybe there's more to her. These two have serious chemistry, and when he gets going, she sure as hell can't deny him, so it's only a matter of time before feelings are being caught. Like the previous books in this series, there's angst, heat, heart, humor, and just an all around good time so hit those one click buttons as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed well and I was able to keep interested in the story. Read it in one sitting. The story has laughs, pain, secrets, steam, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Payne (House Of Payne #1) Scout (House Of Payne, #2) Twist (House Of Payne, #3) Rude (House Of Payne, #4) Steele (House Of Payne, #5) Max (House of Payne #6) Tag (House of Payne #7) Styx (House of Payne #9) Loki (House of Payne #10) Sage (House of Payne #11)
This is Zenni and Talon’s story. She’s a journalist and he’s a tattoo artist. She’s assigned to profile him and few other tattoo artists. But she struggles with his dominating ways. She wants him but does not think she could write a story on him. He shows her a new side to herself but is it a side she likes? She has issues with things in her past and he just might help her over some of her fears. When she gains information about him that is classified she has to decide if she wants a future with him or the story more.
I did not like Talon AT ALL. He was an emotionally stunted bully. He made excuses for all of his repeated childish behavior and at the end of every argument made Zennie feel like it was her fault that he behaved that way and that it was perfectly acceptable for him to continue to act that way.....said every abusive boyfriend/spouse ever. He completely disregarded her feelings and made it clear that she would have no life outside of their relationship unless he Allowed it. She couldn't finish her tattoo because he was so insecure it would cost them their relationship, but he could tattoo anyone he saw fit and that wasn't an issue? I wanted to smack him and tell him to grow up and be a man instead of a childish jerk so many times I almost couldn't finish this book. I like this author a lot but this was a definite miss for me.
This is the 12th book in this amazing series and is Talon and Zenni’s story. Zenni is an ambitious journalist who gate crashes an event at the House of Payne and is soon discovered and thrown out by Talon. Several months later Zenni is assigned to interview and spotlight each off the tattoo artists at House of Payne, and she hopes to avoid Talon at all costs, but no such luck, as Talon who is ex-military police, and now tattoo artist, is given the job is greeting Zenni and showing her the ropes. This is a well written story which flows seamlessly, and is filled with secrets, humor, witty banter, and love, which leads to an entertaining and addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
OMGEE, where do I even begin? I didn't want to start this book, since it is the ending of an era, but boy did Stacy Gail end it with a bang! This book had so much, a strong heroine, a fantastic hero, and a story that I didn't want to end. This book is the epitome of what this series is. You won't want to miss this delicious story!
Ohhhhh, what can I say about House Of Payne? It's been a wild ride that I'm sad to see come to an end. I have LOVED every single book and every perfectly flawed, loving, loyal character in the series! I highly recommend the series, it has everything a great read needs! Happy Reading!!!
I have read and re read almost there entire series! This author is amazingly talented. She gets in depth with each character and there is always a subtle the lead into the next book. It is now my goal to own hard copies of the entire series and hopefully an autograph one day. Do NOT hesitate to read this series.
I’ve really enjoyed this series and although I know it has to end eventually, I’m sad and will miss these quirky characters! Talon and Zennie were fun although he was too overbearing to be true! Alpha males, huh? The storyline worked well. Zennie’s dad was cool too. He made up for her crappy childhood.
House of Payne: Talon by Stacy Gail. This is part of the House of Payne series. This is the story of Talon Levesque and Zenni Greer. Talon is an former military officer but now is a tattoo artist who wants to keep Zenni safe. Zenni is a reporter who wants to be taken seriously and be promoted to a senior reporter. Enjoyed their story.
Sad that it’s the last one, at least I think it is. I’d be overjoyed if it wasn’t, I didn’t like Talon much at the start, tossing a woman out a door is a bit much especially since she’s tiny and he’s not. But they work through that and each other.
What a fantastic way to wrap up House of Payne. I have loved seeing all the characters grow and to see the different relationships grow and change! Xoxo
