Not everyone managed to survive the bloody battle. The strong, the brave, the courageous, and the good all fell with honor. The war spared few and took away many of the best . . . Hadjar Darkhan was one of the few who survived and is now ready to continue his journey. The battle is over, and the dead have been sent on their last journey. The unknown and the perils of the imminent war are still waiting for Hadjar. He can sense that his life is about to be filled with the clang of weapons and armor and the beating of war drums. He hates war! But he also longs for it . . . Is there anything worse than war and battle? Maybe. . . The endless political maneuvering of the two Empires, which they are trying to draw Hadjar into, is definitely not what he needs right now, especially after losing his loyal companion and true friend in battle. A friend he realized he had only after his death . . .
Once again, Klevanski has played on my emotions and I'm here for it! Hadjar finally finds peace with Akemeya and what do the Gods do? Or at least, one specific God?? He encases her in ICE and uses Azrea to get it done! THE DRAMA! IT'S SO SCANDALOUS!!
I've loved this series and followed it since the very beginning. One of the things I've loved the most is the strength of bonds developed through the series. It seems, in an effort to push the story forward and give Hadjar new motivation, our author attempted a "twist" of sorts. Problem is it came so out of nowhere and destroyed a beloved character in one fell sweep.
It's very sad and I almost dropped the whole series right there, it felt so forced and disappointing. Hopefully the next book brings back a bit of the magic and I'll stick it out to see, but this is easily the worst book yet and really spat on some of what made this series so great.
This is the worst of the 13 books imo. The MC sharply deviates from his personality and I hate what the author has done to his character. I want to say more but I can't because I don't want to spoil the book for others who might enjoy it.
oh azrea... i feel so bad for her. i can't say i'm happy he's paired with arkemeya, but i do appreciate all the similarities of his life choices and fate with erhard's and traves. time for him to read how to kill a dragon.
Pēc diženās, lielās kaujas #12 grāmatas Path to the Glory noslēgumā, Hadžars nevēlas neko vairāk kā dzīvot mierīgu dzīvi pats sev.
Story started out MC doing the whole hard reset to learn skills thing. Thats a good start. Then we see him turning old and mortal. Typical wuxia, doing good so far. Old hermit/sage comes to isolated town plot. All in the purpose of self discovery to get stronger. MC still has a goal.
Then came Arkemeya the Half-Breed. Asking for help to do her mission. At first he refused and said no thanks. The girl said town or even his loved ones will be in danger if they dont do it. He then said yes all for the sake of his loved ones safety. Still making sense at this point
Then after the mission, Azrea her beloved companion (oldest) mind you turned into a human and made him chose between her or the halfbreed. And this is the part where it started not making any sense at all. He chose the vampire over Azrea. He chose his just recent (by wuxia standard) gf to a long time companion? He claimed Azrea as his daughter. Who the F! kind of a “father” chose gf over their “daughter”? All of a sudden Hadjar turned into a lovestruck 100 year old virgin type?
He literally decided to F! Em all and die of old age with Arkemeya. No more goalnof getting stronger. Thats it done. Then came W. Fang. He showed him what happen when he gives up fighting. He said nope. Not even a counter argument. He just flat out in denial. I mean it makes your hero dumb and stupid if after presenting a compelling case, he stubbornly flat out rejected it. Hadjar is stubborn but not stupid. We can see from a mile away that something will happen to his family for him to “wake up” from his illussion of peace. But again to use Azrea as the villain? This is a major disservice for the sake of creating drama. She doesnt deserve it. I was practically hoping for the vampire to die just to spite Hadjar and his naivety. And then he went full scorched earth just to save his family. Well duh! All of us are literally screaming “I told you so”!
One thing I hate is when author/script makes the hero stupid to advance the plot. There are better ways to achieve this without breaking character. I will be caught up with the series on the next book. And it will take a major comeback for me to continue with the series. Just disappointing.
This book had a lot of reveals. The Azrea reveal seemed to be expected. Though I have to say that what she did was pretty messed up. I can't help but think that by the end this is going to be more of a tragedy than anything else. Furthermore I can't help but wonder about a few things. 1. Is the Enemy actually Hadjar? I mean earlier when he met an immortal the man talked about laws and there have been mentions of time laws. I can't help but wonder if that Hadjar is actually the Enemy prior to time traveling to the past. 2. Would love to simply know if everything works out at the very end or if it's like a Romeo and Juliet kind of story where everyone dies. I hope for a story where everything works out but a lot of people die. This story seems to set up the beginning of the fight between Hadjar and the Enemy where he essentially says "Fuck it Join me" and then they both go full Murderhobo and Destroy/Kill everything. The Fae are on Hadjar's shit list, so are the gods, the demons, the spirits, and the Elves. The only ones so far that don't seem to be on his shit list are Orcs. Could it be that the final time Hadjar wears a general's medallion is during the Demon Parade where he leads an army to conquer the Seventh Heaven and kill Derger? Wonder if Hadjar would become the new god of war... Would be interesting if he did. But really why can't they leave Hadjar alone. He was finally like alright I am willing to leave you all be going to have my family and just chill. Fate is like nope.. Not happening you are not allowed a family. "No Soup for You!"
“This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
As the title says this is a review for Kindle Unlimited and as such is a reflection of my enjoyment of the book and in no way reflects cost to value analysis. I hate trying to define my enjoyment and describe facets of it that would appeal to someone else. It is simply not my style. But for the sake of those fishing for clues:
Character development: good Game elements: minimal Harem elements: none Summary: really you’re still looking for reviews by book 13? You know you’re going to read it.
I will happily discuss the book with you on Goodreads if you are so inclined. As always, I am open to debates and arguments, but also vain enough to seek acknowledgement, so feel free to roast me or applaud my efforts. Either is acceptable, because if you are paying attention to me then you are at least considering the book. And THAT my friends is exactly why you see my comments here.
This series so far has been a tour de force, a harmony, a heavenly chorus and a dark symphony that is until this book which is in part a jagged edge, a note in disharmony with the rest of the epic tale, out of sync because of certain events.
Books 1-+12 are a mastery in the manipulation of the senses while book 13 was an interlude for the first 60% and written in parts for shock value and made little sense as it was not in synergy with the rest of the series because of certain events.
Being so invested in the series, it is too late to turn back and hopefully the rest of the books overcome this bump in the road, redeem themselves and soar back to 5 star status.
It is still a great story, but like every long story, some unnecessary things end up happening because there is no more incentive for the main character to continue on his journey.
First, the title City of Demons only serves for the first 50% of the book, after that Hadjar goes to other places and deals with others obstacles. Another thing is that he simply leaves his school and his disciples without giving any explanation to go to the land of the dragons, he just goes there.
And the worst thing is Azrea being used to make Hadjar follow the path of the warrior. Totally unnecessary, it is to turn a beloved character into a villain for nothing.
Demon City, the 13th book in the Dragon Heart series by Kirill Klevanski, is an uneven book. I don't mind the time skip or the arc of the Demon City, but something strange happens afterward. Not only does Hadjar have his true love, it is someone we already met. That development was extraordinarily rushed. We had some evidence of one-sided affection on her part, but not on his. Then there is the plot related to his oldest surviving companion, and then a plot by the God of War following Hadjar's brief stint in peaceful domesticity. Some good, some tropey-ness, some weirdness. At least, for now, there's a clear drive forward. It seems likely to end in tragedy.
First of all, let me start by saying the writing of this book was superb like the others. My issue here is the sudden switch in Hadjars motivations. Without spilling any spoilers, I really really REALLY was NOT a fan of his choices in this book.
Instead of enjoying his adventures, this book left me feeling a bit depressed and very unsatisfied with his choices and decisions on who to discard and who to stick with. Not sure what to expect in the next book. Will still continue to read though
Ended abruptly, was disjointed, jarring, jumping around a lot, the storyline wasn't as entertaining, was annoyed and irritated by most of the choices and decisions made, but the last 20% or so reminds you of how good the series as a whole really is, then it ends, when it's finally getting good. By far the least entertaining installment, major disappointment, can't all be winners I guess, still looking forward to the next one.
First this series is mind blowing, and has really got me into the Russian authors of this genre. I would 100% recommend this series to anyone. My ONLY complaint, because this book is translated it takes a while for each new book to become available, as such it can be hard to remember what has come previously. I would recommend a quick recap of the last book. That being said it still doesn’t stop me. Bravo 👏
I loved the idea of becoming mortal to overcome a roadblock in your progression. Both of Hadjar's mortal stints in this book were somewhat poignant. This shift helped to re-enliven the series and kept me reading for another book.
I'm sure I'm not the only one to feel betrayed by the author, because of what was done to the kitten. It came out of nowhere and felt forced but that's how betrayal often is... so I'll let it go.
Usually after so many books you start to see a loss of fire from the author. Where you feel like the story has to end. Instead I'm on the edge of my seat. Shedding tears of joy, sadness, anger. Im just in awe of what Kirill was able to capture in this book. Please read and experience the trials hadjar faces.
Yet another outstanding addition to this series. Definitely some interesting character development happening in this one. There were times where the transitions were mildly jarring. Nothing too far outside the scope of what we have seen previously, but I am wondering if those will get more and more use the further we get into this series. We are over chapter 1200 by now. Will absolutely read the next book.
It's rare to have a series where every book is brilliant, author manages to do just that... Word building, pacing, investment in the mc and other main characters is simply impeccable.... Fight scenes are a brilliant poet writing in prose... Kirill u are simply amazing, can't wait for the next book.
Very difficult to review this book without spoilers ..... There is no sense of emotional connection with the love element . And this was all wrong - totally the wrong female - and you have probably painted yourself into a bad corner by demonizing the right female. And the whole old mortal thing .. Please fix this please please
I found the series to be challenging, sometimes confusing and very interesting. After reading 13 books I think I'm starting to understand. I have reading for 65 years and find I do enjoy this author. It's Ithe first time I have put in a review. It keeps me interested.
I've read 13 books. I understand the life the mc leads and everyone usually dies. But this book is my least favorite. To me makes all the earlier books I read seem like a waste of time. I love the action and story building but just the midway through seemed pointless. I still will read all the books . Great story
This book was heart breaking. The entire build up to why Hadjar would destroy the world revealed. Who is soul mate is…revealed. This entire book left me so angry! And even though the book didn’t go the way I wanted it was done in a way bring out strong emotions. Great Job!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Every book gets better, kiril has really developed as an author from hajars first steps into cultivation all the way to his latest heaven defying feats I eagerly await the next book, more so than any other series I'm reading currently
If you are already following dragon heart...obviously u will want to know what's going on with hadjar...so great story again and hope next one is early...it's a lot of time gap between delivery of books...but love hadjar story
One of the best series I’ve ever read in my life. I love the world building and the character development. The author does a great job with speaking in terms of which the world your reading about knows.
The weirdly cool rollercoaster ride that is Dragon Heart continues to deliver odd and awesome moments throughout this book. There were some shockingly unexpected moments but enough interesting plot points to keep it interesting.
I’ll be honest the first part was slow .. I wish you had consolidated the first half in to a quarter but I’m not an author just a reader .. excited for the next one !! Keep going bro and great work
This book felt very rushed and slightly confusing. The transition from the last arc to this new arc was cumbersome at best but overall still great. I still got the general gist of it and look forward to the next book!
