An Army of One

Rate this book
Oh vuk, the Sworne have taken Kal!

Unable to accept Kal’s fate, Charlie suits up and becomes an army of one in a daring attempt to save Kal from the Sworne. But whether or not she succeeds, Charlie’s belief in Kalatas is now riddled with doubt and worry.

Meanwhile the battle at Clabonne has left more questions than answers about why the Sworne stole a large volume of darakar. However, Charlie, Kal, and the Zodiac Pack may find a spark of hope when they discover a mysterious scientist named Talyn has escaped his bonds from the Sworne. Talyn may be the key to defeating the Sworne, but he is frightened and unwilling to confess the Sworne’s secrets and instead requests to be taken off-world from Kander.

Before Charlie begins her next mission, they enjoy the Kaldr Festival, indulge in Kal’s anti-rut and make the boldest move yet by publicly announcing their relationship as true mates. After the festival, Kander turns its attention to the future war with the Sworne. Can Kander be ready in time? And will they learn what secrets Talyn holds about the Sworne, willingly or by force?

Lexa Luthor

30 books473 followers
Lexa Luthor is an avid writer and reader of the Omegaverse trope especially including F/F pairing. In her books, each main character(s) is a strong-willed female, who navigates difficult situations but always ends up finding love with their mate. Every tale has a twist and is gripping, sexy, and even a bit adventurous.

When not writing, Lexa enjoys binge watching television shows like Game of Thrones, Gentleman Jack, or The L Word. Her other favorite hobbies are playing cornhole, rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs, and laying around the pool in the summer. At times, Lexa finds time to read romances (both dark and fluffy) and great sci-fi books but nothing else can beat a steamy, downright erotic F/F romance with biting, knotting, and slightly possessive love.

4.25 stars. I like this series so much, Luthor’s books never seem to disappoint me. I’m going to keep this review short because this is a series that needs to be read in order and I don’t want to give spoilers to those who haven’t read any of the books yet and might want to. If you want to know more about the series you can check my review on the first book here.

Those who have read the books know what they can expect, there is again plenty of action and spicy scenes and I really enjoy the banter of the group of friends and the underlying relationships (whether of a romantic nature or not). Ow, and I can’t wait to read the novella spin-off with two of the characters after all the teasers in this book. Finally, I’ve said it before, but Kaden….. I want to have her.
Fans of the series will be very happy with this newest installment.

More Awesomeness

I love this world. Kal, Charlie, Kaden, Raine, and Andrea. The original pack are all here. There are some more characters added in. They just add to the depth. I read this book as slow as I could. Did not want it to end. Lexa is such a talent. I always feel like I am right there on Kander. If you have not followed this series, you need to start at the beginning. With Dancing in the Darkness. Highly recommend.

What a great read

This was a good, lengthy read. Plenty of action, plot and character development. I'm already chomping at the bit for book 8

This book contains such intensity, action, and passion, like all the others before this, it's like watching a sci-fi/romantic movie all at once. But, in my opinion, the evolution of Charlie through the story has not been the best. I mean, I get this is all fiction, but the world she lives in is in the verge of being destroyed and she wants to get desperatly pregnant!? What's wrong with her judgment and selfishness, she doesn't even know if she's actually gonna make it. Besides that, she has become so dependant and soppy by Kal. I missed the joyous and funny Charlie from the beggining. Don't get me wrong, I love romantic stories AF, but This Charlie is so sensitive and always crying around, it's annoying at times. Best characters Raine and Kaiden.

I’m absolutely in love with this series! Each book just gets better and better. You can’t help but fall in love with Charlie, Sumner, the Zodiac Pack, and their friends. My heart wants so much for them to succeed in ending the Sworn and Omnis-sar’s terrifying oppression. Speaking of how dare they pick now of all times to arrive!! Charlie and Kal had one night of Sumner’s Rut before having to deal with their arrival. Also I was not expecting the whole vuking planet to arrive!!! I’m desperately waiting for the next book and to see what happens to my beloved Zodiac Pack and all and Kander next.

I wish Lexa was like Netflix where you can binge watch(in this case read) every season at once. Wauw… how the hell did that… O no, can’t give away this cliffhanger.

Book 7 in The Alpha God Series literally had me on the edge of my seat. And I’m still here. Where I will wait until book 8 is released. I really hope it’s soon.

I have raved about this series from book 1 – it was a new trope for me, and a new genre since sci-fi isn’t something I’m usually into. But The Alpha God series is beyond words. Lexa Luthor has created this insanely imaginative world, with characters whose personal growth has been such an integral part of the storyline. Kal and Charlie fast became my favourite couple – EVER. It’s not just them that make this series great though. Rain, Andren, Dorlon, Starr and even Kaden bring so much depth to this story.

An Army of One ties in superbly with the previous books with a few questions answered, more raised, and the threat of the Sworne increasing. I won’t go into the plot of this one as there is just so much going on, and I don’t want to spoil it. Just know that once again Lexa Luthor has created another book full of suspense, mystery, action, eroticism, humour and romance that has to be read to be believed!

I loved, loved this book. It has a lot of wonderful intimate moments between Kal and Charlie where they share their desire, goals and fears with each other. There is so much happening in preparation for the war with the Sworne. I really enjoyed this book and I’d like to say this is my favorite of the series, but I say that each time. Lexa has a wonderful ability to paint a world that you just want to keep reading it forever. I haven’t been able to get into any other book right now because I’m constantly thing about what book 8 will have to add.

If I write anymore I’ll start to give away some major spoilers so I’m just going to say…. MAJOR CLIFFHANGER. But if you’re this far into the series you have already prepared for it. Again I loved 🥰 reading this and even tried to slowly read it, but I was just so immersed in it that I flew through it. So 🥰🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟and there was a lot of 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. Well I’m off to read it again.

Holy shit, I can’t stop thinking about this one.

CHARACTER IMPRESSIONS:
Charlie and Kal
I love seeing their relationship grow stronger in each book. Charlie has changed as much as Kal, both of them becoming better people for themselves, each other, and the people of Kander. When they finally made the announcement about their relationship, I couldn’t stop cheering.

The idea of them having a child together has been teased and mentioned a handful of times in the previous books, and now they finally have a chance to talk about it in this story. As much as I can’t wait for their happily-ever-after, I’m also hoping for a babies-ever-after, but Charlie and Kal each have their own hopes and fears of having a child. I loved that they weighed the pros and cons, as well as Charlie’s health, because consciously choosing to bring a child into the world, especially during a time of war, isn’t a simple decision. They both had valid arguments for or against it, but even when they got mad at each other’s reasoning, I’m glad they apologized and came to a compromise like adults. This scene was probably one of my favorites between them and that’s among a lot of good scenes they had together in this story.

MINOR CHARACTERS:
I freaking loved Raine and Andren so much in this story. I love their banter with each other and with Charlie and Kal. The way they both teased each other or teamed up to tease Charlie is hilarious. I absolutely adored Andren on Page 81 because she spoke more in that scene compared to the entire series so far, and also because she was so genuinely honest and proud about what she admitted to Charlie.

Raine and Andren are finally an official couple now, but as much as I wanted this to happen, I wished it was announced or shown in the forefront rather than summarized in the epilogue. After so much teasing about whether or not Raine will reciprocate, I kind of wished Charlie witnessed Raine taking a chance to ask Andren out or return Andren’s feelings, because it came off in the epilogue as, “Oh by the way, they’ve been doing stuff together and now they’re official.”

It didn’t really feel earned because Raine was shown to hold back on page, Andren was shown to like Raine on page, but then off-page, it turns out they’re together. In all honestly, I’m just being sensitive about their relationship being made official off the page instead of on because they’re my favorite characters aside from Charlie and Kal. I’m still happy they’re finally together now.

Talyn is such an awesome addition to the cast. I love how understanding Kal was about him not wanting to stay in Kander, but how that also went against Charlie needing him to tell her everything he knows about the sworne before he can disappear. I thought it was funny when Andren didn’t understand Charlie and Raine’s earthling slang, but Talyn trying to understand them was even funnier.

Kaden. This poor locke has been captured, forced to fight other lockes for food, was saved by Charlie, then flew into space, dodged laser shots, fought some sworne, and then dealt with Charlie and Kal rocking the bed every other night. She’s an unsung hero. I can’t wait for Raine’s gift for her to be put to use in the next book.

Dorlon is such a strong character. Even though she had to deal with an abusive father, had a mate who left her, and fell in love with Charlie knowing she doesn’t have a chance because Charlie has Kal, she is still supportive of her friend and high commander. She deserves everything along with someone who loves her. I mean, even Charlie was shipping Dorlon with Laken just because they were standing in each other’s personal space for a minute. If she doesn’t get her own happy ending by the end of the series, I would be devastated.

I’m so happy Starr’s back and I hope she stays. I’m surprised to learn how young she actually is so late in the series, but it honestly doesn’t change anything aside add to her character trivia.

I need more of Laken. She’s such a minor character that is shown in small doses but each time she’s on page, I’m glued to her for no reason. I was a little skeptical about Ru Steiner, but everyone seems to think she’s trustworthy, so I’ll take their word for it. Magnar surprised me and I don’t know if I’m angry, shocked, or dumfounded about her.

The Omega God of Kander doesn’t get as much attention as Kalatas, so I wonder if she’ll ever show up. I mean, if Kalatas can use Kal as a vessel, will this omega god use Charlie as a vessel in the future? There’s so many questions I have. If Kalatas takes the form of Fairlee to talk to Kal, will this omega god take a form to talk with Charlie if she ever makes an appearance? Will she take the form of Charlie’s mother? Ahhhhh, I’m so curious about this god.

STORY IMPRESSIONS:
I’m so glad Charlie didn’t waste a single second and immediately went to save Kal. She truly was an army of one. She may not be a merc anymore, but she’s still rescuing people. That rescue mission was an action-packed roller coaster. I loved every minute of it.

I’m glad I finally got an answer as to why Charlie was taken on the Liberator instead of her mother, who I thought would have contributed more to the surviving humans, but it makes sense now.

The epilogue was packed full of emotional moments. My favorite scene being the conversation Charlie and Kal had about whether or not to try for a baby during this time of war, followed by one of the most wholesome moments between Charlie and her group of friends, only to end with the most jaw-dropping cliffhanger. I already can’t wait for the sworne to be destroyed, so for them to make an entrance like that, I hope they get their comeuppance. I’m already off to read the next book.

HIGHLIGHTS:
    * Highlight 1: Charlie stopping at nothing until she was back with Kal.
    * Highlight 2: Every single one of Charlie’s friends being concerned over her mental state at almost losing Kal.
    * Highlight 3: I love how Charlie and Kal are so in love that even a god is bending rules to let them be together.
    * Highlight 4: I love the scene of Charlie, Raine, and Dorlon together. It’s nice to see the original trio as friends again.
    * Highlight 5: “Sometimes we have to focus on ourselves before we can be stable enough for others.”
    * Highlight 6: “Friends don’t keep score of each other’s mistakes.”
    * Highlight 7: Raine getting jealous of an omega who has an obvious crush on Andren.
    * Highlight 8: Charlie’s reaction to the gift Kal had been keeping in her pocket for months.

First I'd like to say, had the Earthlings used Gordon Ramsey to yell at the Swornes, Imma bet this series wouldn't exist, the aliens would've run with their tails between their legs ages ago.

Second, I don't know if it was my anxious not so little arse, the writing or a mix of both, but throughout the whole reading I was in a constant state of apprehension, like dread was just over the corner. Don't get me wrong, this book is, and made me feel, many things, but the whole waiting for the Sworne armada got me on edge.

So in short, phenomenal reading, I laughed with the pack's antics. And let me say something, if Lexa touches any of them, Laken or Dorlon (gosh, give her a break), we're going to have words (I just threatened her in a questionnaire lmao), she can go killing any of the alphas commanders. It'll be sad, but whatever haha. I also cried silly with Melissa's funeral, I'm so not over her death. Yeah, I get that sometimes we need to take a L to make things even more emotional and personal, but I hate to see nice people dying especially the way she did, without a chance to even try. It was gutting.

And that cliffhanger, gaaaaaaaaaasping, we'll finally get to meet the bloody cunt. I got the chills with that last bit.

And I cannot stop saying, I love how we get the chance to savour everything, from silly things to very important stuff, in detail but without being overwhelming. We have the time to bond with the characters.

I promise I'm finishing. About that subject Kal and Charlie were discussing in the beginning and in the epilogue of the book, I think Charlie was being a bit unreasonable, not to say sort of egotistical. Her argument only takes in consideration her side which I get, but what about Kal's? In the context I agree with the latter, it's the middle of a war, it just increases the chances for the enemy getting the upper hand.

And what's going on with Magnar, we all know who she is, but that felt so out of character of her. I truly hope there's an explanation and things can be worked out. I don't know how but she sneaked into my heart.

I'm so excited for the next (and still waiting for Charlie's playlist to pop up).

While I've been enjoying these books for the most part, I absolutely hate Raine's personality. She is useful, but her "teasing" is often just saying weird, annoying shit that isn't her business, often totally out of line, and that's 98% of her dialogue. She definitely doesn't come off like the genius they describe her to be. Otherwise I find that some really big moments in these books are built up for so long and then are just breezed over. I do think I can see the author's writing improve with each book. I like how she's able to take something that was mentioned one time a book ago and weave it back into the story.

Zodiac Pack Attack!

I can't. I just can't. These damn cliffhangers kill me and I was on a roll not having to wait for the next book! I was late to Lexa Luther's book game. This series is phenomenal though. Excellent world building and character development. Hot sex scenes and a good sense of humor. It's just tied together so well that you can't help but want more for Charlie, Kal and the pack. It leaves you on the edge of your sit every single time. I know it's gunna happen, but I'm still never ready for it! Bring on Volume 8. I need to see some major butt kicking!

I went through this series in less than a week. They are addictive & often ended in cliffhanger so I just had to read the next one. This author’s books are my first into Omegaverse (even had to google what the term means) and woo she can write! Yes the books are very sexy but the plots are also strong and interesting, even for someone who is not usually into fantasy or sci-fi like me. Highly recommended if you are looking for something different.

Can’t wait for Book 8!
Oh and like many reviewers, Kaden is also my fav.

Very hot, and very nicely done. I enjoy the growing bond between everyone, not just Charlie and Kal. I like Raine and Andren, and Laken and Dorlon, and I like their interactions as a group. Like a big family that argues sometimes fights and almost always reconciles. A Dorlon and Laken spinoffcould be fun to explore in a separate story in itself if the writer wanted to go and expand the Alpha God universe outward.

I've read all of this The Alpha God series (and the first book of Kingdoms of Gyldren) and...

Dear Author, thank you for opening up a whole new world. I never expected an Omegaverse to be so balanced, having a moderate amount of steamy moments and still retaining its deep lore and touching moments. Words can't explain how amazing you are. Just, thank you.

I hope you keep on writing great F/F series. BRB rating all of those I've rushed in a week 5/5 stars.

Eye opening and answered questions

The books doesn't disappoint! From the beginning there is non stop action. The author expands on the budding relationships among the lead characters while introducing an outsider into the pack. There are many twists and turns and the ending is a bit shocking 😳 I highly recommend the book.

Lexa, good continuation of Charlie and Kal's relationship and love story. Looks like they have gotten as close as possible. Now we all have to find out how the Sworne are dealt with. Please finish it as fast as possible. Thanks again for a great series.

and now their relationship is out in the open, and they're kinda ruling together and it's so sweet I'm glad that people respect them and they don't have to hide their affection!

Damn!

This was packed, it ends how it starts though differently and I hope I’m not selfish in saying we need more than eight books. The war is here, oh! we need a wedding and to live through Charlie’s nine or more months of pregnancy. Keep up the good work.
