I've quite enjoyed this author's Jake Houser Mystery Series, and found that his new apocalyptic novel is just as much simultaneously heartwarming and engrossing. The aspect of an EMP event (whether cosmic or manmade) that is the Scariest to me is that first moment: planes falling from the sky, cars crashing, infrastructure lost. But good apocalyptic fiction focuses on how survivors function, individually and in families and larger groups (not always positive, of course). Reading how people manage to carry on is enlightening and often inspiring.

Book One

The premise of this book is good. But the excuses, the what ifs, the can I overcome my background and the quiet whining made the book hard to read. Starve or kill an animal to eat and survive another day. Carry a weapon or be raped, robbed and/or pillaged. These are decisions that one ponders for five seconds not just before you are attacked.
Good storyline. Maybe if it was proofed by those old women.
Would I recommend? Yes.

Fascinating and believable

Fasten your seat belts. Book one just sets the table for a four book series that will have you staying up late to keep reading. You feel the pain of the main characters ,members of the Fallon family as they struggle to survive in a world turned back in time with all the modern conveniences gone with no warning. The thing throughout this whole journey is knowing that this could be an all too real scenario. Hats off to Bo Thunboe for this non stop heart pounder. This could be made into an awesome movie.

Adapt and overcome

What a challenge, for people who have never had any experience in survival of any kind, to reinvent themselves to survive. Great book.

Another EMP book.

I've read several of these apocalyptic books over the years and this one is not one of the best. Much too wordy without any real meat to the story and the ending only serves to get you to buy the next book.

Full of action and controversy, yet seemed realistic as to what would happen to everyday people after an EMP strike.

This novel once again shows that in the case of disasters, the human is the most dangerous thing around. Good action and not a lot of wasted time on plot non-essentials. Interesting characters, and you grow to care about them. This is the first of a four book series, and I’ll read the next one to find out how the characters are developing.

Very disappointing.

I rarely do not finish a book, but this is one I should have dropped. The characters are not compelling and the story not believable. Social issues are handled in predictable ways. My apologies to the author but this one is not worth reading.
