Holding On to a Hero

Rate this book
A retired movie star, his “bodyguard”, and a wildlife photographer bond over some beavers. No, the furry kind. Wait....

Weddings should be life-changing for the bride and groom, but not for the photographer. A deadly accident at the last one I worked left me scarred physically and mentally. At least the insurance payout means I can live as I please.

These days that means taking photos of wild animals instead of wild bridezillas. But photographing some cute beavers leads me to a nearby ranch—and the wrong end of a shotgun. Turns out the place belongs to Cole Washburn, newly retired A-list action movie star, and he doesn’t want anyone finding out how close he is to his former bodyguard.

Not that I’d ever out anyone, but they don’t know that. Trusting a stranger is hard under the best of circumstances.

Speaking of hard, that’s exactly what things start to get as soon as I have a chance to explain myself. Hard to open up to them, hard to walk away—and very hard to ignore what my body and heart are telling me.

After one very naked weekend, I’m all in. But Cole and Jason have each other. Can I trust them when they say there’s room for me, a guy with a bad back, a messed-up brain, and not much else to recommend him?

Before I can find out for sure, a shooter tries to take Cole down—but I’m the one who lands in the hospital.

Cole and Jason are on the run, leaving me behind. Reuniting us will take a cross-country flight, a road trip with an angsty cat, and a hare-brained plan, but together we can catch the person who shot me.

Or die trying.

Holding On to a Hero is a super steamy, three-person POV, suspenseful MMM thriller/romance, infused with humor, heart...and a thrilling ending you’ll never see coming!

RATING 4.5 STARS

Holding On To a Hero is book one in the Bent Oak, Texas series by Bix Barrow. This is my first book by her and I believe it is also her debut book! What a wonderful surprise this was. This is a MMM romance with some added elements of suspense that kept my eyes glued to the pages.

Some might call Will Graham a hero. But he doesn’t think of himself that way at all. About a year previously, he had been involved in a traumatic event which has left him with some serious back issues and some even more serious mental setbacks. Will is a wildlife photographer and is living with his sister and her eight year old daughter while he recuperates.

Cole Washburn is or rather, was an A-list movie star. He is also an in the closet gay man who is in a committed relationship with his body guard. Cole has had enough of Hollywood so he retired from the life and he and Jason bought a ranch outside of Austin, Texas where they are starting a rescue ranch. Cole has a plan for outing himself but it hasn’t been put into motion yet. So for the time being, his relationship with Jason is in private only. That’s why when he saw a man with a camera pointed their direction, they might have gone a little crazy!

Jason Shelton is part owner of Shelton Security. He met Cole when he was his bodyguard and they fell in love. Now their life is on the ranch. Jason and Cole had long discussed the possibility of someday finding just the right man to add as a third into their relationship. But since they were still hiding their feelings from the public, they hadn’t gotten much further than fantasizing about it.

There is a wildlife refuge right across the road from the ranch which had a pond where some beavers had made their home. It was a perfect place for Will to photograph the beaver family which is all he was doing when he noticed the two men coming out of their house across the road. Being chased away with a shotgun wasn’t the way he thought his day would go. But eventually, when these three properly met and explanations were given, attraction was born. Will can’t understand why they are interested in him. He’s an every day boring guy with some serious issues. Cole is Hollywood royalty. Even if he is retired. But then the unspeakable happens, someone shoots at Cole and once again, Will finds himself in the path of danger.

I fell in love with these three men. I loved the way Cole and Jason were so nurturing with Will. And, I found myself pretty much glued to the pages, wanting to find out what was going on and why! This was a great start to this series. The next book is going to be Foster and Craig’s book in Heart Me Up. I can’t wait to get started.

Writing this review as I read it.

Jason and Cole have already been in their relationship for few years and have always wanted a third. Will sort of drops in their lap. I can understand Will’s reluctance to start anything serious. Right place, right time does not make for a relationship. The chemistry is ok. But when Cole is in danger and Will saves him, Cole and Jason pull way back. WAY BACK and this is when I lost interest in the book and the characters. I really did NOT like the way they isolated and basically ghosted Will. He saved Cole and for what. Ughhhh. 5+ weeks they did not contact this poor guy!

Hope it gets better quick because I’m about to DNF. I’ve hate read too many books lately. It doesn’t really get better, sadly. But I’m a masochist and need to know how this ends.

Will is WAY too forgiving. It’s one thing to be a hero, quite another to be a doormat for others. UGH. He isn’t even angry. Like WTF. Don’t speak to me for 6 weeks. Let me believe you are in a coma and sure I’m ok with all of that?!?! Sure, Jan 😣😣

75% in and they are finally all together and still no 3 way sex. Why am I still reading this. I don’t even like the characters. Cole is a selfish asshole, Jason is a terrible bodyguard and Will is a pushover. I really should pull the pin 📌 in this.

I just want to know who is after Will. I am at 93% and still nothing. Ok. I know the shooter AND it is SO convoluted it’s cringe worthy. Don’t read this book. The sex doesn’t even save it. The connection between the characters was so off. Won’t sugar coat it.Just UGH.

This was a fun read but I had a number of issues with it.

There were several plot points that drove me crazy. First off, "instalove" is bad enough but to have Cole and Jason, an established couple, decide that they want to have a full relationship with Will shortly after meeting him didn't strike me as believable. Fun times, yes. A full on poly relationship right away I couldn't buy. It would have made more sense if the relationship developed towards that over the course of the book. Secondly, right after they have made their decision to pursue a relationship the three are separated, with Will left behind and Cole and Jason going on the run. So there's a good third of the book where the three of them aren't together to develop their relationship, and the reasoning behind the separation didn't make a lot of sense, overall in that context. Finally, the resolution to the overall mystery is a bit convoluted and a reveal that was a bit hard to buy.

However, with that said, I did have fun with the book. Despite the plot issues, I found myself eager to continue the story. Barrow has a way with characters- all three of the men are interesting and seem like real people and there are some good development moments for all of them. And several of the supporting characters are excellently done, especially Will's sister and Spencer, who is Cole's double and a stuntman. With better plotting, I could see Barrow becoming an author to be reckoned with. For now, however, maybe one to keep a hopeful eye on.

I really enjoyed this debut novel by Bix Barrow. I was in the mood for an MMM book and remembered I had this one on my list to read. I’ve only read a couple MMM books and they have been hit or miss so I wasn’t sure how I would like this one. I’m really glad I read it as their story and relationship was a great one! With throuple relationships I like to see all three equally in the relationship and I absolutely felt that in this book. There was no jealousy or awkwardness with one person left out (once their relationship was 100% established).

We get chapters from all three of their POVs (Will, Jason and Cole) and I loved seeing things from all sides. The dynamic between these three was amazing. Their sexual chemistry was fantastic and I liked how they took turns being in charge in the bedroom. They also were incredibly supportive of each other and worked well together to balance each other out.

The story itself tended to be a tad unbelievable but it was fun even with some serious parts and I found that I enjoyed it even if I kept thinking it would never happen. The author did a great job of keeping me interested in the story and I will absolutely be checking out other books by this author.

I was drawn in from page one. Writing was really good, actually above everage, I really liked Will and the humor, but sadly my enthusiasm diminished fast as the story progressed and narrative got more and more ridiculous. There are mild spoilers ahead as the relationship is concerned , so if you want to stop do it now.
Cole and Jason are an established couple - in the closet, because Cole is an A list movie star. They include the third in their sex play but only in fantasy, they never tried it in real life. So when they accidentally meet Will they are both attracted to him. So far, so good. This is where the story got me eye rolling more than once, actually I was on the verge of DNF at 23%, but I pushed through it - only because I feel I need to give the book a fair chance. They met Will all in all a couple of times and talked to him, never even kissed properly and they are already planning a long term relationship in a detail? Please, give me a break... It would be totally understandable if this started as a casual hookup based on mutual attraction and naturally progressed into much more, but the way it is portrayed it's beyond ridiculous and cringe worthy. The plot in other aspects is decent, the writing above average, but I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon.

I had so much fun with this one! This is my first book from Bix Barrow and I can already tell she's going to be added to my favorite authors list. I'm always a bit anxious to check out a new-to-me author, but I didn't need to be with Bix! Holding On to a Hero had wonderful characters, a fun bit of mystery & suspense to keep me on my toes, and a swoon-worthy low-angst MMM romance. Will, Cole & Jason were so good together and I loved reading about an established couple finding their perfect third to complete them.

Cole is a famous actor, now retired, while Jason was his bodyguard when he was still acting. Their relationship is solid and established, but there's something missing. Turns out, that something is Will! He's a wildlife photographer with some serious baggage. But it was handled beautifully and Cole and Jason accepted and loved him all the same. Honestly, Cole is such a sweetheart. He's funny, a bit of a goof at times, and so so caring. Jason is not at all the stoic, grumpy type I often see in bodyguard-type characters, and that made me so very happy. He's sweet, caring, and fiercely protective. Will is just a big cinnamon roll who just needs all the love and cuddles, honestly.

I liked how their relationship developed in the chaos of dealing with someone being after one of them. I also enjoyed all the side characters and look forward to a few of them getting their own HEA in the following books of the series. Really hoping Spence will get his own book at some point too! Fingers crossed!

All in all, this was a fun, low-angst romance with a hint of suspense. I am now definitely a fan of Bix Barrow and am diving into the rest of the series right away.

I honestly don't know why I finished HOLDING ON TO A HERO because it was rough, but I guess I wanted to know who the villain was and I just couldn't look away for some reason. On the positive side, the set up for Will meeting Cole and Jason was really cute and I liked how open Cole and Jason were to adding a third to their relationship. Will was a really sweet and endearing character and I liked that he respected Cole's desire to remain in the closet for a little while longer until he was ready. The first 30% was actually pretty good and kept me interested but after the shooting at the ranch things went downhill. The story started to feel almost goofy and all the side characters became over the top and didn't feel like real people.

I'm also not sure how Cole, a Hollywood heartthrob, ever hid that he was gay because he was written very much like a stereotype. HOLDING ON TO A HERO felt like gay men written by a straight woman, though I don't know if the author is actually straight, it just didn't feel very authentic. The side characters were all very one note and the cops and security guys were kind of incompetent. Also why would Cole and Jason leave Will behind after the shooting? Will forgave them way too fast for that situation and how much turmoil the months long separation put him through. Overall, not for me and I won't be continuing the series.

This was great, though the relationship development (especially how suddenly it all started) could have been better.

But the thing that really stood out…

The phrase Jason used to answer the phone at the end was different each of the three times it was related. That was kinda strange. I get that Cal might have misheard/misremembered, but Brian should have heard exactly what Jason said.

This is the story of Wildlife photographer Will, Jason, who is the bodyguard/boyfriend of ex Hollywood action movie star Cole Washburn. Cole and Jason have been a committed couple for a few years.

This was an interesting and engaging mmm story with plenty of romance, drama and intrigue. It's an emotional story with pretty good flow which allowed me to get a good feel for each of the characters and be invested in their lives and problems.

The mystery kept me guessing and I was surprised to discover how it played out.

I really enjoyed the ending. It was satisfying and well rounded.

From the first page, this book drew me in and took me on a ride full of suspense and emotion.
Will, a wildlife photographer, is recovering from a horrific accident and while taking pictures of the local fauna attracts the attention of Cole and Jason who live across the road to where he’s photographing. Initially antagonistic and wanting to protect their privacy Cole and Jason don’t trust anything to do with Will and his camera however further meet-ups show them that Will is not the threat they thought. Often fantasising about adding a third person to their dynamic but never previously finding anyone they liked enough to invite in, they have an instant attraction to Will. Initially disbelieving they could want him Will feels the attraction too and agrees to a date. Things are starting to go well between the three of them when danger strikes and they are separated for weeks while authorities try to find the culprit. Finally together again the danger is solved and the three are left to pick up the pieces of their burgeoning relationship.
I loved all three men and they had a great dynamic between them. I felt I got to know Will better than the other two though and it felt like there was more of a back story about Cole and Jason than we got in this book but as this is basically the story of Will joining their established partnership I can live with what we got. I also enjoyed the side characters of Will’s sister and niece who added some depth and humour to the story.
This was a new author for me and a debut book as I couldn’t find any other’s (and I looked for more) and as such, it was a tremendous read that I totally enjoyed and I can’t wait to read more from this author. Full of suspense, emotion, heat and a dash of angst this is a book that I would recommend giving a go.
I was given an ARC of this book to review and this is my honest and voluntary opinion.

A mix of romance and suspense, this book is a relatively light, low angst read in which an in-the-closet couple attracts a third to create a strong, lasting relationship that likely couldn’t have happened without. And in the meantime, multiple murder attempts test and affirm their commitment to each other.

Insta-attraction, and a fast burn to romance and more, the story doesn’t tackle many heavy topics. The original couple always imagines how well a third could improve their chemistry, but when they meet Will, they know things could be even better than they imagined. They quickly invite him into their relationship, and things progress quickly, even with someone shooting at them. When they’re forced to separate temporarily, there’s a little angst as Will deals with his insecurities in being the third and not knowing if he’s truly an equal partner, but we quickly move past it as they get back together and have to deal with the realities of the shootings.

While Jason and Cole didn’t feel as deep or complex, Will was a wonderful character to get to know. Rough past, lots of emotional depth and turbulence, and an earnestness that you immediately fall in love with.

Really enjoyable story, with a good dynamic between the characters, and a well developed suspense thrown in.

So Will was hurt in an accident and now photographs wildlife. He runs into former actor Cole and his bodyguard/boyfriend Jason. They have always thought about adding a third and will just kind of shows up and then someone shoots at Cole and in an attempt to save Cole, Will is shot, Cole injured and goes into hiding leaving Will clueless as to what goes on.

This is where the plot lost me. Seriously, you need to run 5000 miles away and not even phone anyone because the killer might be following you? Seriously? You're not a head of state, I doubt the terrorists have bugged all your phones. And Jason's brother was kind of an asshole. Will got shot saving Cole and he doesn't even have the decency to tell him he's okay.

I did enjoy the format of reading the police transcripts as they interviewed various suspects when it's decided that the shooter is after Will, not Cole. But one of my bugaboos

So some things I liked, I appreciated that Will suffered permanent injuries and it affected their relationship to a point, but the shooter plot was just a bit too out there. I just had trouble falling for that whole plot line of icing Will out of the relationship for absolutely no good reason.

Revenge, Anger, Lust, and attempted murder, just to name a few things that made me love this book. Barrow has the ability to bring a person's feelings to the reader as if the reader were actually talking to the character in the book. Will, Cole, and Jason each have their weaknesses which make their lives difficult. More so since Cole is a public figure who just wants to be free of that persona.

When Will stumbles onto Cole's home near a location he wants to photograph, he is suddenly aware that his life has become something new, something he never expected in his life. But why? He is a nothing, a nobody who is just trying to recover from the most traumatic experience in his life.

Looking down the business end of a rifle aimed at your face would make anyone run screaming. Not Will. He's stronger, yet inside he's more of a mess than he ever imagined.

Barrow brings the reader along as everything in these three lives blows up. He drags us along as their lives become tangled in each other and as their lives become threatened. A misunderstanding puts Will, Cole and Jason at odds with each other and the people who should be keeping them safe, helping them along, and protecting them. The ending of this book was a total surprise to me the reader. The mystery moved along at a fast pace only to stop suddenly when the last of many clues becomes unraveled.

If you enjoy mystery romance with heavy gay scenes, lots of angst, lots of surprises, and an ending that you never thought would happen, then read Holding On To A Hero by Bix Barrow

I didn’t even come close to guessing who the shooter was!

I enjoyed this book very much overall. I will say it drags a little between about 60 and 90%. There’s quite a bit of information there and sometimes it just seems to drag on.

I very much enjoyed the relationship development between Cole, Will, and Jason. MMM books where an established couple find their third, whether they’re looking for one or not, is one of my favorite storylines. The way the author shows how Will is a necessary part of the relationship when Cole and Jason have to go into hiding was a great addition.

The chapter where William suddenly takes charge in the bedroom with a little bit unexpected. Before that scene he seems to mostly defer to Cole and Jason. It was a bit jarring. I sort of expected it from Jason since Cole had described him as bossy and controlling, but suddenly Will was taking charge.

Overall, I would definitely recommend it!

MC development: 8/10 (well developed just a couple odd scenes That didn’t seem consistent with what we knew of certain characters)
Mystery: 10/10 (I definitely did not see this one coming)
Heat: 7/10 (just right, well balanced to add to the story and relationship without being smut)
Length: 7/10 (A bit too long, I feel like some of it could’ve been cut out)
Meet cute: 9/10 (Cole chasing Will away with a shotgun, Then Jason later chasing him down was pretty entertaining)
Overall: 8/10 (would highly recommend)

This one is hard to rate because there were some things which were good, a lot of things which could have been good and were just so and some things which really annoyed me.
Please be aware that there are small spoilers in the review

So, what was good:
The writing was actually really good
The plot idea was good
The relationship between Jason and Cole at the beginning
Jason, I really liked him ... yes he had his flaws, but out of these three, he was definitely my favourite
Some of the secondary characters: loved Spence, Malcom (really want to see him again)

What was just so:
The relationship between all three in the last third
Brian ... I liked him
The story .... I was kind of intrigued with who the perp was ... that was completely unexpected
Will, he was kind of a pushover

What I didn't like:
Cole, most of the time
How they invited Will to be with them ... that was really, REALLY, unbelievable
That Cole and Jason's relationship practically was not interesting anymore and didn't work anymore after inviting Will. It just didn't work with how they were portrayed at the beginning
How they ghosted Will after the shooting ... it just didn't fit

All in all this was a decent debut book and I think this author will stay on my radar as the writing was really good .. but the characterization and story development needs a bit of work

An ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review

We have 3 completely different men Cole the movie star who just wants to retire and rescue animals. Jason who needs to be in control of everything to keep those he loves safe. And Will, for me, was the most complex character, because he is a teddy bear but at the same time he is all dominant, he loves wild photography and the way the author describes the photos made you see it in your head.
This book has a bit of instalove, although I prefer to see it as explosive chemistry at first glance. Cole and Jason already have a stable relationship, but they are going through a new stage where they will really have to interact as a couple regardless of anything, and there they realize that not only in their fantasies it is exciting to imagine a third party with them but that they really need someone who balanced them, and it is not that they do not love each other enough but that sometimes more is needed, that the circle is not complete. I like how it deals with the topic of polyamory and how they show you that it is not that the other party is not enough but that something more is needed.
Something that I have to applaud the author a lot is the fact that she remarks that taking therapy is necessary when there are situations that overwhelm us, and best of all, she shows how Will, thanks to therapy, recovers from various events that affect him.
The part of the mystery, despite being a basic issue, the truth never imagined who the aggressor would be and gives it another twist. I also liked the secondary characters a lot, hopefully they will take books out of some of them.

Will is a wildlife photographer just trying to take pictures of the beavers in the pond near a wildlife sanctuary. He honestly did not know at first that former Hollywood star Cole lived on the ranch that borders the land by the pond. He gets in more than one confrontation when Cole thinks he is trying to sneak pictures for the press. One morning he accidentally catches Cole and his serious boyfriend Jason locked in an embrace. Once they all manage to get past the misunderstanding that Will must be trying to expose Cole, they discover that they have some serious chemistry. Cole and Jason have always been open to a third but they have never met anyone that they seriously considered before Will. Then the threat of an active shooter threatens to tear them all apart before they are able to really fully commit to each other. As they try and solve the mystery of the shooter and keep everyone safe, these three men have to decide if the chance of their full relationship is worth the risk of Cole’s coming out in Hollywood. I really enjoyed this book. It has just enough danger and plenty of sweet sexy times to keep the flow of the story going. These guys are all so sweet and believable. Their relationship really works and is beautiful to read. Highly one!!!

This story has a little of everything in it. It's steamy, romantic, suspenseful and intriguing. Cole is a retired actor who is gay, but still in the closet, and is starting a rescue ranch with his partner Jason, who used to be Cole's bodyguard. Will is a photographer who was in an accident the previous year that messed up his back, so he moved in with his sister and he only takes pictures for his own enjoyment now. Will and Jason meet first, then Cole meets Will. Jason and Cole are both attracted to Will, and they have talked about having a third, so they approach Will. Before things can get too far, someone shoots at them, and Cole and Jason are whisked away. The suspense builds as the story goes on. Who is shooting, who are they shooting at and how can they be caught are the questions the police, CBI and the Texas Rangers are asking. All the guys have both dominant and submissive traits that they get excited about in the others. They're sweet and caring and very funny. If you enjoy a good romcom and m/m/m, this should be put at the top of your TBR list.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

A Joyfully Jay review.

3.5 stars

The set up here is what sold me on the book and the creative storyline is really what shines the most. I enjoyed the sort of meet-cute as Will is innocently photographing some adorable beavers and Jason and Cole assume he is the press out to sell their story. Cole quit acting because he was tired of being closeted and is working on plans to come out publicly. So the idea that someone is invading their private enclave to sell pictures before he is ready is not something Jason is going to stand for. Jason is Cole’s former bodyguard, so he is protective over his boyfriend, and it all makes a really fun conflict here that kicks things off. I liked the way the story combines the relationship among the men with suspense plot as they try to figure out who is shooting at Cole and why. I also liked how the story deals with Will’s chronic pain and emotional issues from the accident in his past.

Getting to see Calvin for even two seconds would’ve made this book perfect, but it was wonderful on its own merit. I’m just deeply obsessed with Calvin and any mention of him ever is my favourite.

Anyway!

It was a huge mess, but it was really fucking good. The mess was some kind of formatting error, I think? Missing sentences and words, cut-off sentences and spliced ones… it was a lot to work through at times, but it was worth the struggle.

The characters are fantastic, the story was well-done with a perfectly twisty baddie reveal, and I loved the writing style. I loved the various details and ways of conveying information and the inner dialogue for each character was always entertaining. I also loved that they talked like they’d sound in real life, which is always the best. I hate when books have stiff and unnatural voices.

3.75/5. Because it really needs some cleaning up. It was hard to figure shit out, and I’m sorry to point at it, but it’s an issue. Other than that, I can’t wait to keep going! This series will hold me over until Wonder comes out nicely. This AU is quickly becoming one of my favs.

This was an engaging novel with interesting characters. It’s easy to get caught up in, and there are some definite high points (I’m looking at you here, Dave and Spence). There are also some rough edges. The speed with which Cole and Jason go from fantasizing about hooking up with a third partner to planning to make Will their serious boyfriend is beyond dizzying-- instalove at its fastest, if not finest. You don’t want to think too long and hard about who the stalker/attempted murder turns out to be-- honestly, you really don’t. The buildup and suspicion is handled brilliantly-- little threads of testimony from everyone to siblings to distant exes to a psychic who kinda sorta seems legit-- but the actual solution is...unexpected and a little annoying. There are a lot of moving parts in the story, and places where everything comes together really well, as well as places where the seams sort of show. It feels like a bit of a work in progress, but for the most part, a fun one.

3.5/5 This was a wild ride. I liked all the humour, the nature photos, the interview transcripts, the animal sanctuary, and the building relationship between Will, Cole, and Jason. It got a little convoluted, and I found that the separation in the middle was a bit over the top. (It’s somewhat explained by the choices made by one character, which others can disagree with the necessity of, but it did pull out a chunk of time when I would have liked to see the relationship develop more.)

I often worry in triad relationships, especially when one person is being brought in to an established relationship, that it will feel uneven. Although feelings developed fast here, I rarely felt like Will was at a disadvantage, in part because Cole and Jason were so equally focussed on him. Likely or not, it really felt like the perfect person for them fell in their laps, and they ran with it. I liked the quirks in all the characters, the impacts of the past, the championing of therapy. I want these three to have a much more relaxed future together.

What a sweet and steamy Threesome! This Threesome was about an establish pair, Cole the ex actor and Jason the owner of a security business. They are in the closet due to Cole being famous but they are such flirty and sensual guys they have always dreamed of having a third to share their life with but could never act on it. Will is a nature photographer who was in a terrible accident so he has some physical and emotional issues. They all meet while Will is photographing and there is a misunderstanding. Once they all start to get to know each other it becomes a steamy instalove story! I enjoyed getting all of their POV's. Great details of characters and surroundings. This story brought the threesome together in a real way. The only real drama is from an outside mystery involving being shot at!!! I received an ARC of this book and recommend for anyone who loves a fun and flirty threesome! I will definitely be looking for more from this author as I believe this was a debut book!

Mixed Feelings with this one.
A good start as Will finds himself caught by the attention of two men while photographing beavers.
Will, being a hero but he came with physical and emotional baggage from the past. Included are cute beavers, prickly porcupine, and dramas as a shooter is targeting Cole.
I didn't feel the connection between them in this. Some scenes where mehh when they sussing out the 3rd with Will and telling of how Jason and Cole's relationship started. Other scenes were not played out fully before skipping to another characters pov. What happened after the shooting just bugged me with scenes without posting spoilers.
Included were the three pov's as the story plays out for a HEA ending.

Will was a wildlife photographer and moved to get his shots of the beaver family.
Jason and his boyfriend Cole (ex movie star) had been together for years. They had their ranch for any animal rescues.

More partners, more excitement! Will met Jason and Cole in relatively innocent circumstances that were misinterpreted. Cole and Jason are in a loving relationship open to inviting a third. Cole is a former Hollywood star and not out yet. Will does not need to work, but he takes pictures of wildlife. Jason, as Cole's bodyguard is protective of Cole's privacy. They both thought Will attractive and open to inviting him to join their relationship. The three men compliment each other's personalities. They fulfill each others' needs. There is conflict where Jason has to protect Cole away from Will and their relationships are challenged. Is Jason able to keep Cole safe? Is Will safe alone? Does Will understand? Do the men reunite? How does the fans feel about the poly relationship? Lots going on. The relationship dance gets a good workout. Nice story. Plenty of excitement. Well done! I received an ARC audio copy of this book. I loved this story. Bix Barrow did an amazing job with the character development as well as adding some great suspense. I found it beautiful how three completely different men form and amazing relationship of love while going through a tragic event which brings them close together in the end. There are some twists in the story that keept me riveted. Great job! Definitely recommend🙂This is the second time I've read Devon and Brandon's story. And found it just as good the second time. Devon grew up Mormon and struggled with his sexuality and who he is as a person because he was taught that being queer was wrong. With the help of Brandon, who fell in love with him, and many of Devon's fiends he made at college and the rock band he sings in, he find himself and accepts who he is. This is a west low angst love story with a HEA. I received the ARC copy for audio and found that Finnley Cole did an amazing job with narration.
