When a gruff Daddy thinks he’s an ugly duckling, it takes a special boy to show him that he’s a beau bear.

Damien has known his whole life that he was the ugly duckling of the seven Brenner brothers. But as a big Daddy bear, it didn’t matter until Vinny comes into his life.

Another boy rescued from Kingdom Mountain Theme Park, Vinny is too young and too beautiful for an old bear like Damien. The age gap is too much. He needs a younger, gorgeous Daddy to take care of him.

Try telling Vinny that. He wants Damien to be his Daddy, and he’s not going to accept no for an answer. He’s sure he can out-stubborn Damien, with a little help from Damien’s family.

Who is going to win this battle of wills?

Can Damien ignore his heart’s desire and persuade Vinny he needs a fresh start away from the mountain and away from him. Or will Vinny finally persuade Damien that the only place he wants to be is in the arms of his beau bear.

I wanted to love this book way more than I ended up loving it. This book had so many elements I love in a book but sadly the execution just didn’t work for me.

I cannot tell you how much i’m into the concept of this series which is based on a reworking of snow white, but it’s a series with 7 daddy bears, I just love that idea so much.

Also daddy kink with a bear of a man, yes please give it to me now.

Brief summary
Vinny is a little lost in life and he didn’t have the best life so far. He’s taken in by Damien and his family. All Vinny wants is to be with Damien and to have a family. But Damien is reluctant and it takes him a while before he accepts that he deserves Vinny and the life Vinny wants. But they end up together and in love.

First, a lot of this book, like 50% of it is Vinny pining after Damien and wanting to be with him and Damien pushing Vinny away, when Damien keeps saying how much he loves Vinny, because Damien thinks he isn’t good enough for Vinny, which puts Vinny in life treatening situations. I like some push and pull in books, but I didn’t like how Damien just kept rejecting Vinny and allowed Vinny to feel unloved, it made me so sad for Vinny, who just wanted to be loved. Damien had a lot of self esteem issues, because when he was younger, he heard a family friend and his mom say that he wasn’t good looking and he’s been feeling like he isn’t attractive and not good enough since then. Which is why he kept pushing Vinny away. I can understand why he thought he wouldn’t be enough based on what happened in his life but I just wish he talked to Vinny and told him how he was feeling instead of always pushing Vinny away.

Side note, I have to say that I absolutely loved how Vinny kept defending Damien against anyone who dared say anything bad about him and how Vinny trying to make Damien feel better about himself, it was so sweet and such a nice touch.

Second, I will say, I did enjoy how Damien finally realized that they are made to be together and how he apologized and made it up to Vinny by treating him right, it made me forget a lot of my earlier complaints about him making Vinny sad. I was glad that he realized what he did wrong and made up for it, it was lovely to me.

Third, I also didn’t like how much drama outside of the couple there was, this is a personal preference but I just don’t really enjoy outside of the relationship drama in books and there was a lot of that here, a little too much for my taste.

I really enjoyed the times that Damien and Vinny spent together and they were such a sweet couple, unfortunally the rest of the book just didn’t work for me, but thats all due to my own reading preferences.

I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.

So confusing from the first few pages. Concepts come out of left field with no explanations. Green coats? What the heck are those? Kingdom Mountain? What is that place? The dialog would suggest a shifter book but it's not at all. They call them selves "Daddy Bears" and use many references that would be in a shifter book. But also is set up like a DaddyDom/LittleBoy story. A unique world with absolutely no set up to how it works. I thought for sure I must have started in the middle of a series but nope this is the first book.

2.5 Stars ~ I remember when I finished Snow Twink hoping the author would write about the other Brenner brothers. I can’t say I was horribly impressed with this first venture and it’s not because I didn’t like the characters. For me, it was more that the plot seemed to jump around, and then there were parts that were horribly, outrageously, and ridiculously unrealistic even within the framework of fiction.

I’m hoping the next story will be an improvement.

Beau Bear is part of the ‘Bearytales in the Wood’ series. It’s listed as Book One, but it’s really Book Two. Snow Twink is the first book in this series. Snow Twink has all the background about Kingdom Mountain Theme Park, about the Greencoats, and about Vinny and Lyle. If you read Beau Bear first, I believe there’s a good chance you’ll be lost. I think the author should either re-number this book to Book Two and change the numbers on all the following books in the series, or add Book 0.5 to Snow Twink, because by numbering these books the way they are, it has led to confusion, which I’ve noticed by other reviewers. I even got confused, even though I read Snow Twink first. I ended up reading Book Two, Boy Tangled after Snow Twink and it felt like a chunk of info was left out, and that’s because Beau Bear was labeled as Book One, when I know it’s not really Book One. OK, now that I’ve discussed what I consider mis-labeling book numbers, I can get on to the rest of the review.

This story stars, Vinny, one of the rescued boys of Kingdom Mountain, and Damien, the oldest of the Brenner brothers. Damien is about forty-years-old, and Vinny, a virgin, will soon turn eighteen, and that’s a major hurdle that Damien must get over. This is told in third person from both Vinny and Damien’s povs.

This series needs to be read in order. As mentioned above, I accidently read Boy Tangled, which is really Book Three, before this book, and the story line didn’t run smoothly when read out of order. I received both books one and two as ARCS. ARCs can be a bit of a deterrence to giving a thorough review because I don’t know if the errors I found were fixed before publishing, and the books have been published for a while. The reason is there is a major description error regarding one of the characters in both books that I feel needs to be brought up. In Beau Bear there is a bartender named, Aaron, who is a main character in Boy Tangled. Damien describes Aaron in this scene:

Damien’s jaw dropped open. “You’re cutting me off already, Aaron.?”
The bartender, a huge bear of a man almost as big as PJ and just as bushy a beard, gave him a sympathetic look.

Damien’s brother PJ is huge, probably almost seven feet tall, and he’s a big guy. The impression we’re given here, is that Aaron is this huge big bear of a man. Now, I’m going to bring up Aaron’s appearance from Boy Tangled, I’ll also mention it in the review for that book also. Aaron describes himself as:

Aaron thought he was tall enough at a couple of inches under (my bold marks) six foot. Although he was slender, he had muscles from working the bar. But Jake had at least ten inches on him and was three times the size.

Aaron is nowhere near as tall as PJ, nor as tall as Jake who is even shorter than PJ. Aaron isn’t even six feet tall. He isn’t even this huge bear of a man as described by Damien. He’s slender with some muscles. The book cover for Book Three has Aaron clean shaven. I don’t know how the author messed up a main character’s appearance from book to book, but why didn’t the betas, proofers, or editors catch this? That’s the trouble with ARCs. As readers we don’t know if we’re getting the true final version of the story. If Aaron’s physical description hasn’t been fixed, it’s a major inconsistency. Inconsistencies like this have a bearing on how much I enjoy a story and affect my star rating.

I liked this book’s plot. It segues from Snow Twink well. It includes more information about the Brenner brothers and about the investigation into Kingdom Mountain, even though this is more about the romance between Vinny and Damien. The conflict is around Vinny trying to get Damien to accept him as Damien’s boy, but Damien doesn’t think he’s worthy, and that stems from something he overheard while he was young.

Vinny knows what he wants, and he wants Damien. Damien thinks he’s to old and keeps pushing Vinny away. Everyone tells Vinny not to give up on Damien, but he’s growing disheartened. Vinny is feisty even though he was terribly abused by the Greencoats while living at Kingdom Mountain. He is terribly fearful of one specific Greencoat who plays a part later in the story. Damien’s insecurity about his looks and age is hindering his future with Vinny. Thankfully, Vinny is persistent. He puts the Brenner brothers in their place when he defends Damien against their hurtful jokes. I liked that Lyle and Vinny’s presence in the Brenner brother’s lives has changed them. The brothers are growing more aware of how they interact with others. In a way, before Lyle and Vinny arrived, the brothers were in their own bubble and didn’t have to change. For instance, Damien is usually the calm, even-keeled brother, but his protective and possessive instincts for Vinny has Damien losing his temper quite a few times. With the help of Lyle, Damien learns that he must control his temper for the sake of Vinny who'd been terribly abused. I felt bad for Damien because he didn’t think much of himself because of what he overheard when he was young. Until Vinny, he believed what he heard. Vinny and Damien both care for each other deeply, and I could believe in them as a couple.

I don’t think Beau Bear is quite as good as Snow Twink because it’s lacking the drama of Kingdom Mountain and what’s happening there. This book is focused on Damien and Vinny’s romance with some incidents involving Kingdom Mountain sneaking in. I recommend reading this series in order, starting with, Snow Twink, even though it isn’t numbered as the first book. I believed in Damien and Vinny as a couple and will likely continue reading this series. I’d like to give this book, 3.5 stars, but since I can’t, I’ll give it 4 Stars just because of the romance.

I received an ARC from the author. I’m giving my honest and unbiased review.

good follow up

I love how this series stores with the seven brothers. Here we have the story of the oldest brother, Damien. He is such a big teddy bear. This story was good. The brothers continue to try and help Vinny and stop more of the theme parks and their demented green coats. If you haven’t read Snow Twink, you really need to because these books are sequential and will make more more sense if read in order. Damien takes care of everyone else, but who will take care of him? Vinny desperately wants the job but he has to convince the older man that they are a perfect fit. I can’t wait to read the stories of the rest of the Brenner boys.

I was glad to see that we are making progress, SLOWLY making progress with the Brenner Brothers and their boys!

This was Vinny and Beau's story and BOY was there a lot of issues to cover in just a few short pages... *headdesk*

Luckily, I had previously read and remembered most of the details from [book:Snow Twink|55709355, which set me up for this story! Now, I just have to find time to work my way through this series... *grin*

Damien and Vinny.
MM.
This has the promise to be a Great story. However not at this stage. I felt like I was dropped into the middle of an ongoing saga, constantly trying to play catch up and understand exactly, what was happening, yet being unable to fully comprehend the dynamics. It was only upon reading other reviews that I discovered there is actually a book that needs to be read before this book, to get the full understanding of this story. Think that needs to be made clearer to readers. So if anyone is reading this review to decide if you want to jump in, PLEASE read SNOW TWINK first.
My review is based on having not known about the need to have read snow twink to understand exactly what was happening with the Green coats. It left me feeling confused and at a loss for most of the story.
The story is practically a insta love, Insta Romance, Insta Relationship.
I am usually fond of Sue Brown books, but this one not so much. Will give it a while and will try the series this time reading Snow Twink first.

Beau Bear is the first book in the Bearytales in the Woods series by Sue Brown
This story is a spin-off from Snow Twink so I recommend reading that first. This story is about Damien and Vinnie. I really liked their story. Ever since reading Snow Twink I couldn’t wait for it. Their story was sweet, sexy, full of feels and very well written.

I find it odd that the description doesn't mention that it's a sequel to Snow Twink, as it definitely makes more sense if you have the background from the first one.

Note: the characters are 17 and 40, respectively, when the book starts, and are sexually attracted to each other. Even 18 is so damn young, especially with a character who has experienced so little of the world.

My first ever KU book! Late to the club, I know. Anyway...

You must read Snow Twink by this author before reading this and the subsequent books in this series, otherwise this will make no sense to you.

Vinny, rescued by the Brenner brothers during the events of Snow Twink, is currently living in the brothers' extra large cabin, presumably until he turns 18 and is no longer in danger from the Kingdom Mountain Theme Park people to be "disappeared".

Vinny has fallen hard for Damien, the oldest brother, who is over 22 years older and thinks of himself as an Ugly Duckling because he overheard a conversation when he was but 12. Vinny thinks Damien hung the moon, and he wants him for his Daddy, and Damien had better get on board with it.

I liked this a lot. You have to suspend disbelief, of course, as this is a fairytale retelling and some things aren't realistic at all, but the dynamic between Vinny and Damien as a couple, and between the Brenner brothers, Vinny, and Lyle as a whole was engaging and entertaining.

The author uses fairly simple prose, which fits the characters and the underlying fairytale. The characters are likable and interact in organic ways.

There is still danger at hand, because there are apparently other theme parks where similar evil deeds are taking place (again, suspend disbelief at the sheer amount of human trafficking involved and the subsequent law enforcement/CPS agencies blind eyes or corruption that would be occurring for this to make sense), and some of the brothers are investigating.

While there's a HEA for Daddy Damien and his boy Vinny in this book, the overarching plot of the evil theme parks is not resolved. Off to get book 2 from KU as well.

After reading Snow Twink, this reader left a review which complimented Sue Brown's ability to retell the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves with a male/male twist and privately lamented not knowing what happened to the six brothers. Little did I realize she was taking the book forward to a series (silly me) telling the individual tales of the Brenner brothers....the seven bears if you will.
Beau Bear is a continuation of Snow Twink, this time telling the story of the oldest Bear, Damien, and his relationship with Vinny, another victim of the theme park which brother Greg (Gruff's) husband Lyle escaped in Snow Twink.
Once again, Sue Brown delivers a well told story, following the guidelines of a fairy tale. The language is simple, the characters well described so as to give the reader a visual picture, and the story admittedly is slight as in all fairy tales. There is a conflict, quickly solved and with the requisite happy ending.
This reader is impressed with Brown's ability to write to the genre and the reader has to willingly suspend disbelief to accept the simplicity of the tale. Brown is a complex writer with the ability to fully flesh out plot, details, descriptions and situations in a far more complex way. The fact that she bends her style to the simple outline telling is in my humble opinion, the sign of an excellent writer at work. And to her credit, even though this has turned into a series of books, she leaves the reader captured enough to want to know more.

Story: 3.5 Stars

"Beau Bear" is the first book in the Bearytales in the Wood series and leans heavily on its prequel, "Snow Twink," for essential background details. This story picks up where the prequel leaves off, with eldest Brenner brother Damien (40) internally battling against falling for rescued boy Vinny (17/18).

This is a hurt/comfort love story with a large age-gap that's an issue for Damien, who ultimately proves to be the protective and safe place/person and caretaking Daddy that Vinny needs. As frustrating as Damien is giving Vinny mixed messages and trying to push him away despite clearly loving him, he has his own share of insecurities and inner pain from childhood events to overcome.

Vinny being rescued from the sinister Kingdom Mountain Theme Park occurred in the prequel - again, it's essentially a must-read before diving in here - and this story addresses some lingering threats and Vinny's PTSD from the physical abuse and other horrors he suffered there. (My kingdom for some trigger warnings about that, so tread carefully if it's a concern.)

I enjoyed getting to know all of the Brenner brothers - all gay Daddies who live together in a large mountain cabin - more in this story, especially PJ, and look forward to reading all of their stories in this highly interconnected series. I received an e-copy of this book and have left this honest review voluntarily. (Also read in KU.)

This series about 7 brothers, all of whom are big furry Daddies searching for their forever boys is loosely based on fairytales and this story is a re-take on Sleeping Beauty. It tells the story of the oldest brother Damien and his boy Vinny. When Damien rescues Vinny from a life of slave labour they instantly feel something for each other and Vinny goes to live with him and his brothers. While Damien is initially hesitant to give in to his feelings, Vinny is sure that Damien is the Daddy he wants.
It’s not a long story but it is a sweet one, with some heat and suspense as they work out their relationship. I did find all the brothers and their individual traits a little hard to keep track of and I did struggle a little with the large age gap so I didn’t enjoy this book quite as much as the previous one but if you don’t mind that and like Daddy stories then this is worth giving a go.
The book is listed as being number 1 of the series but to fully understand what is going on I would recommend reading ‘Snow Twink’ first as this is not really a stand-alone and ends with a continuing storyline that seems to lead into the next book.
I was given an ARC of this book to review and this is my honest and voluntary opinion.

Vinny was rescued by Damian and Damian's brothers. Vinny had been a boy at a theme park where men who wore green coats abused young boys. From the first, Damian had wanted Vinny and knew that one day he would be his Daddy and that Vinny would be his boy. How could people beat small boys and punish them just for the pleasure of hitting them? Vinny has scars on his back and buttocks from all of the beatings he received from the men in green coats.
Vinny is due to turn 18 soon and wants Damian to be his forever Daddy. Damian, even though he wants that too, thinks he is too old and ugly for someone so young and beautiful. Their house is full of Damian's brothers and a few other boys that were rescued in the past. Thru hurt feelings, understanding each other, a new puppy, am almost kidnapping and some amazing sexy times between both men, Vinny and Damian get their HEA, but the end of the book lets you know that there's some angst for the family to come. This is a great start to a sweet, low angst Daddy/boy series.

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

mehh This one needs help..
This is a follow on from Snow Twink and strongly recommend to be read first, as I found out too late.
I read this not knowing that and found this hard to read without no prelude to explain things. Time jumps at the start as Damian is a young lad with lots of siblings and parents I couldn't figure out.
(Past): A okayish start the the Bremmer household add another baby boy to the family.
Damian had issues of being left out and self image holding him back from finding love... of sorts. That love was right in front of him with Vinny, a boy who badly needed his Daddy. Vinny also had horrible baggage that still leaves him with nightmares. Poor Vinny he gets whiplash from Damien's behavior to an froing from wanting/not wanting him.
I didn't understand Greencoats and "disappeared" meanings I was totally lost regarding that.

Damian (present 40 yrs) at a young age and all he thought of traveling to world, rather than looking after his many brothers presently.
Vinny (17 yrs) was a orphan and worked at the theme park for Damian's family. Vinny was 17 years and weeks away from his 18th birthday.

Damien has always known that he was the ugly duckling of the Brenner brothers but as a Daddy bear nothing mattered until Vinny came into his life. Vinny is another boy rescued from the Kingdon Mountain Theme Park and Damien is convinced that he needs a younger Daddy to take care of him, but Vinny doesn't see it that way. Who is going to win this battle of wills?

I enjoyed this short story which covered the treatment that Vinney experienced and that Damien was perfect for him. I loved how everyone knew that Damien and Vinny belonged together it was just Damien who needed to be convinced. Easy to read and understand there were definitely times when I would have a=happly shaken Damien. This book contains mature MM content of the BSDM-like DDLB type of relationship.

Rescued from some evil men who are abusing young boys and exploiting them for cheap labor, Vinny has taken up residence in a house with his friend Lyle and seven big bear brothers – his rescuers. He wants the oldest brother, Damien, to be his Daddy. Although in his heart Damien wants that too, he feels he is too old for Vinny, and not handsome enough. This is a sweet fairy tale where the boy needs to convince his Daddy that he’s not an ugly duckling, but really a “beau” bear. There’s a good amount of heat, but it’s really all about the sweetness. I think that it can stand alone, but Snow Twink provides the back story from which this one proceeds. A fun, short read.

Ugly duckling bear and feisty twink

This book continues the story that started in Snow Twink and tells how Vinny, one of the rescued boys from the evil theme park, managed to win over his Daddy bear, Damien. As the oldest if the seven Brenner brothers, Damien, thinks he's too old and ugly for such a vibrant young man as Vinny. It takes a lot of tears, interfering brothers, and a little puppy to show him that how he sees himself is not how others see him. I'm really invested in this series at this point and can't wait for the other brothers go find their boys - and to get to the bottom of the green coats and the other kidnapped boys. Very good series!

Damien is the oldest brother of seven. Loved the Ugly Duckling theme! He has horribly low self-esteem and will not allow himself anything, let alone the one person that Damien loves, Vinny. Vinny was saved from the green coats shortly after Lyle, Gruff and the rest of the Brenner’s from the from the Kingdom Mountain Theme Park. Vinny’s been abused and has nightmare but when he’s when Damien he feels safe and loved. Loved the Daddy dynamic between Damien and Vinny! This was a super fun story to read. I’m voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.

For sure, you have first to read the unofficial prequel of this series: Snow Twink.

This series Bearyteales in the Woods is about seven brother, all Gay Daddys, finding their boys, combined with ta little bit of drama.

I like all the brothers, these bears, and it‘s nice how different the Daddy boy relation ship can be, already Damien an Vinny, the min characters of this book, are different then the couple of Snow Twink : Gruff and Lyle.

What I love is, that you meet all the characters again only the focus is on another couple.

This book is so nice and easy to read in-between, also for a non native english speaker like me, that’s really great.

I am so confused! I thought this was the first book in this series?!?!? Yet it reads like it's the second book and apparently a bunch of stuff has already happened. One brother already found his boy, rescuing him in the woods when he was left to die, and apparently there was a big to do about an amusement park and kids being kept there as slaves, including one of the current MC's. And the two MC's already have a type of Protector/boy relationship. Puts him to bed, undresses him, holds him during his nightmares. This would make an okay second book in the series....if I already knew what in the world was going on!

A big sweeping romance it is not. BUT it does deliver exactly what it promises, a short sweet retelling of a classic fairytale. The brothers are all giant scruffy bears with kind hearts and I can see why they got their own spin-off series. If you are looking for intense BDSM with strong Daddy/boy play, these books are not for you. If, instead, you are looking for a growly possessive Daddy who wants nothing more then to love his sweet boy, then look no future.

PS Yes I know I cheated and this is the exact same review I left for Snow Twink...opinion still stands true, so sue me 🤷🏻‍♀️

PPS I know the PS is almost exactly the same too 🤣😜😘

Ugly Duckling MM retelling

The seven brothers and Lyle are determined to shut down all of the Kingdom Mountain Theme Parks across the country and rescue all of the children. Vinny is one of the boys that came from the same park as Lyle. He latched onto Damien and is determined to make him his Daddy. But Damien is worried he is too old and too ugly for the beautiful young man. This was a fun story. I liked Vinny's sass and determination. It was a little heartbreaking to read about why Damien believes he is ugly. The brothers continue to figure out a plan to shut down all of the parks. To be continued in the next book.

A bear for Vinny

This is the story of two lost souls, one a man who thinks he’s an ugly ducking and the young innocent boy whose seen enough abuse in his first 18 years then most see in a lifetime. One is in search of a daddy and the other wants to be his daddy but is scared. Sue Brown brings the two together, showing that good things come to those who wait and that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Damian and Vinny make you fall in love again again. Highly recommend! A true fairy tale with a bit of angst come true.

This was a story based on The Ugly Duckling. This is the story of Vinny and Damien. Damien is the oldest of the Brenner brothers, and rescued Vinny from the Green Coats of Kingdom Mountain theme park. The same park that sent Lyle out to die before Gruff found him. These are really sweet reads and I have to thank Sue Brown as it's easy to skip the sex and travel right back to the story. The Kingdom Mountain threats aren't over, and neither is Vinny's terror at their abuse, but with a protective Daddy Bear like Damien, maybe he'll find his HEA.

This series is a MM reworking of our beloved childhood fairytales. Instead of seven dwarves we have Seven Daddy Bears and this is book #1 This is Damien's story. It was a quick fun read. It is a bearytale (fairytale) after all and not everything has to make sense,

The book was good but this cover is really bugging me, I have to rant.
This is one of the worst beards I've ever seen!
Dried out, brittle looking. Nothing wrong with the model but they could have done better with his facial hair. Wether real or fake, it should look healthy and make the man more attractive.

I wasn’t expecting that!

These stories build on each other even as the couples get together. It leaves me split emotionally. On one hand I’m happy the guys found each other but on the other I’m worried and heartbroken about the boys not found and safe. Even though it’s only a book, while I’m reading it I am drawn in deep.

Sweet read. The plot doesn't have many tense moments so this is a good book for the faint of heart, like myself. It's also got realistic family dynamics which was important since the whole story happens around the family. Overall, it was nice, albeit not very fulfilling for my journey, but maybe for yours.
