Eden’s life has always been far from ordinary. Paranormal creatures became part of society when she was young, and she grew up knowing the monster under the bed truly did exist. When she grew, she joined the Paranormal Crime Division, in hopes of protecting people just like her. But, something weird is happening in the Paranormal community and just when she thought it couldn’t get any more weird, a master vampire and alpha wolf decide to offer their support. Now, Eden has to track down a killer and somehow learn to work alongside these two infuriating men. The murders keep happening and Eden is more determined than ever. The hunt is on.
Eden Waters’ life has always been adrenaline-fueled and on the wild side. Paranormals made themselves known when she was 12. A bill was passed to give them “equal rights” and the ability to govern their own people and discipline their species. But they don’t follow rules well, so there is a Paranormal Crime Division to monitor the supernatural beings who cross the line and murder, turn someone without government permission, and feed on people without consent. Eden’s job with them is to kill those who commit these crimes. Her best friend is her opposite, calm and quiet. So when Eden drove Jessica home, racing at top speed, careening recklessly around corners, her friend was justifiably furious at her for scaring her like that… again. This time when she apologized, Jessica slammed the door in her face.
Before she could knock on the door to pacify Jessica, Eden got a call from Frank, telling her they found a third body attacked by a vampire, drained of blood and with deep scratch marks on the back of the body. With no leads, Frank scheduled a rare meeting with the master vampire Mikel, giving her only an hour to get to a vampire-only club. Mikel told her that vampires were also being attacked in the same manner as the humans. He lost two people, and not a weak “newly turned”. One was 200, the other 300 and should have been able to defend themselves. Frank had agreed (without her consent) to have Eden work with Mikel to solve this case. She was furious he had done that, but stood up to Mikel and made it clear she would not tolerate any vampire tricks. How would this partnership work out? Eden disliked vampires and the master was the most powerful and arrogant of all. His goal was to instantly kill the murderer; she said the killer would get a trial. This was not going to be an easy partnership. And as she threw a knife to land an inch from his head, she warned him again, then turned her back on him and left.
The writing in this story grabs hold and takes the reader along on an exciting adventure with Eden as she tracks down a murderer who is killing not only humans but paranormals as well! She will end up working with a master vampire and alpha wolf, not the easiest partners to exemplify cooperation. But it has definitely ramped up Eden’s determination! Grab your copy and catch up on the clues as the hunt begins in earnest.
Our heroine is a top agent in the organization which tries to police paranormal activities, but when a killer starts targeted both humans and paranormals, she gets thrust into a partnership with two males used to getting their way. To say things are tense is an understatement, but our heroine is determined to solve this case before even more bodies show up.
This is book one of the series, so a fine place to start.
This is an urban fantasy story with vampires and werewolves, and perhaps some others as well. The story is well written, easy to read and quite engaging. It grabbed my attention right from the start and never let go, pulling me through on a fast paced adventure that was hard to put down. I really liked all the characters, but our heroine most of all. I always enjoy a strong female lead and our heroine is all that and more. Overall, this was a great start to the series and I am definitely looking forward to the next book.
Highly recommended. . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout for review purposes.
