The Kingdom Child is a seed. It’s 40 days of exploring God’s heart for His children — in all our uniqueness and differences. It’s 40 days of immersing ourselves in a kingdom that is so unlike the world we live in.
This devotional is about your kingdom growth, and all the challenges and limitations that keep us from fully experiencing what it means to be a part of God’s kingdom on earth.
Each day of this exploration starts with the story of a kingdom child, who is now part of a great kingdom, getting to know its citizens. Along with each person or place she encounters is a section called Manna, which reflects on the word of God and how her experience parallels a Christian’s life.
Every Christian who has known the joy and pain of being among God’s children has been The Kingdom Child.
If any of these resonate with you, maybe you are her too.
This devotional was so stinkin’ good! I definitely finished it faster than 40 days... Every day has a story, scripture, and reflection. The story is continuous through the book, and we get to go on a journey with the Kingdom Child. It could be me, but I don't make as good decisions or stop and pray like she did to exactly be her. But it’s something to strive for. Being Christ-like is something all us Christians are striving for! Some of the days were convicting, and all of them made me think. I recommend this devotional, as well as it's predecessor, The Woman in the Wilderness, to any Christian woman who wants to take a journey of growth in Christ!
It was sooooo great and also really helpful. It made me realize a lot of things about what i couldn't see in others and also things that i should do but i wasn't doing so. This devotional also helped me realize that there are still a lot of things for us to explore in God's Kingdom. I would recommend this to people who are trying to figure out more about their relationship with God in the Kingdom perspective.
My favorite quote: "It's a strange dichotomy-to wait for Him and work for Him- but such is the Christian life. One of juxtapositions, paradoxes, and parallels that paint a Christian adventure keeping us on our toes, because the God we serve is just that interesting."
Just because we become a child of God doesn't mean that's it. We have some learning to do. Being a part of the body of Christ, we are like family. And just like families have our disagreements. It is better to work as a community to share his word. Reading this devotional is very aspiring and makes me want to do better.
I don't read much devotional's anymore, because I find them to be very generic and shallow; but I was always curious about Joanna's devotional's- and mahn, I was not disappointed.
Firstly, I love the way she created a story out of this, we get to follow the kingdom child and go "oh yeah! I've experienced this too!" and see myself in the Kingdom's Childs reactions (and then laugh at myself) the Author's reflection's, or "Manna" bits (loved the choice for the title!) really helped to bring closure to what the Kingdom Child had experienced, and I found myself looking forward to it. I definitely did not read it within 40days. I remember going through at least 5 days in one sitting haha. the story was way too good. it felt like a fairytale.
And then finally, the message's were too good. it was not generic at all. it was so real and relevant to our daily walk with Christ, and within our kingdom family. there were people that the kingdom child encountered, whom i have DEFINATELY met- in church! and this was a great way to ground myself and see them through a different, more graceful lens. I loved it and plan to buy this book as a gift to my friends.
Loved the analogy of living out the Christian life through the kingdom child from discovering that she had more tests, to learning what it meant to be a child, to learning to listen for His still small voice, from keeping her eyes on Him, to taking the rest He offers, from finding the balance of waiting versus doing. The Kingdom child learns of His Presence with her and experiences the joy of His Presence with her. Key turning points are when the kingdom child encounters conflict in the kingdom snd must decide how to deal with it and when she faces direct opposition from the enemy where she can either succumb or be transformed. The part about conflict within the kingdom and how it impacts our testimony is so relevant in today’s world. Honestly my favorite part was the part where they entered enemy territory. However it made me want to read the next book cause I wanted to know how it turned out.
I believe this story approach to living the Christian life is so powerful because being a story it has the ability to reach our hearts without us putting up walls. That makes this story life giving.
This unique forty-day devotional with its chapter a day allegorical story of the Christian life gives the reader the opportunity to look at people we meet along the journey. The author adds Scripture references and then her own reflections as well as giving the reader a chance to pause and reflect on what they have read and fashion their own heart response to it. Well Don. The story format reaches into the heart of the reader, helping them remember the points of the Bible passages as they reflect on what it means in their own lives.
Wow. This was incredible. Not at all what I expected but simply superb. A very unique devotional. A story - allegorical and novel - followed by scripture and words of reflection. I was completely hooked from the first. I am thoroughly impressed and excited to see what this author comes up with next. True divine wisdom spills into her words.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Another great devotional with great imagination in storytelling. Lots of scriptures and challenges for the Christian woman or man making their way through this dark world as we move towards the kingdom of Light. Highly recommended to all.
There is so much great writing in this devotional story. Good reminders, approaching things differently, as well as learning how to live in the Kingdom of God ~ three wonderful reasons to get this book, for all Christians on any walk of Christianity. The story approach helps us view each chapter from a perspective we probably wouldn't have otherwise. And that's an excellent place to be! This sentence from the book's description says it best: "Every Christian who has known the joy and pain of being among God’s children has been The Kingdom Child."
I received this advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
