Dave Scatchard has always been the underdog, but his drive to overcome obstacles meant none of that mattered. That's how his childhood dream of becoming an NHL hockey player came true at twenty-one, followed by marrying the love of his life and starting a beautiful family. For everything that came his way, he always knew he could work hard, fight through the pain, and prove himself.
Everything, that is, until a fifth concussion gave him a taste of death and changed the way he looked at life forever.
It took losing it all—his career, his abilities, and very nearly his life—to finally find it all. Dave's journey through the best and worst of his career to the highs and lows of spiritual and physical healing point to a universal journey we all must take. Just like Dave's life, The Comeback is about far more than hockey. It's about how we come back to ourselves to find true freedom, weightless abandon, and a pure childlike joy.
The Comeback is an incredible book that explains a lot about NHL hockey player mentality and drive. Hockey is life, and it's fun! Injuries and concussion are a part of the game. What isn't part of it is knowing what to do after your hockey career ends, Jesuit it ending wasn't your idea. Dave Scatchard wasn't fought over and over to make comebacks after injuries. His determination,... Wow! The emotions upon accepting that it was over.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves hockey. I also recommend it to those in sports medicine or sports psychology.
Being a hockey fan I love to read all books concerning hockey. While I immediately knew the name Dave Scatchard, I didn’t know much about him since he did not play on the team I follow. I know hockey players are true warriors and play through injuries, but Dave’s story is inspiring. I was so glad I won this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am glad Dave took the time to write this book because it gives you an in-depth look into the off ice side of a hockey player’s injuries and how they deal with it. His journey for his comeback is truly inspiring. Thank you Dave!
What an amazing journey. This is one I will reread often. As Dave says at the end, if you're reading this book, it's not by accident. Buy it, read it, you will not regret it.
Easy read and an amazing story. Met the author at an event in Dallas TX and it was was really cool to hear more about journey in person. I highly recommend this book.
The book left me with a smile. I am not a religious man but I knew where Dave was coming from. I have had peaks and valley's in my life just like everyone else. This book teaches you to never give up. Drop you guard and to be the real you. Not what everyone wants you to be.
