"Intrigue and Maine at its thriller best... with plenty of murders." –Amazon Reviews

The third installment of the Doug Bateman Thrillers series, Dead to the World, is a heart-stopping thrill ride that will leave you breathless! In this latest novel by bestselling author B.D. Smith, Investigator Anne Quinn and Detective Doug Bateman are up against their most challenging case yet.

An ESPN-sponsored powerboat regatta is coming to their tranquil lake in central Maine, but a shadowy environmental group known as the "Water Rats" is fighting back with nighttime attacks on race planners and participants. Most of the attacks are minor, but when two local men involved in regatta planning are found dead, Doug and Anne must determine if they are linked to the increasing hostility between regatta sponsors and the "Water Rats."

As they delve deeper into the case, they uncover a web of secrets involving ex-wives and widows, jealous and spurned lovers, insurance payouts, and even secret overseas bank accounts. With time running out, Doug and Anne must navigate treacherous waters to catch the killer before they strike again.

If you love fast-paced thrillers with heart-pounding action and unexpected twists, then you won't want to miss this gripping novel by B.D. Smith.

This was the third book in this series and I enjoyed reading all three books. If you enjoy mystery, suspense, and not being able to figure it out till the end then you will have to read this book! You will not be lost if you have not read the other books in this series, but they are all enjoyable .

I REALLY LIKED SOME OF THE FEMALE CHARACTERS (the men too) THEY WEREN'T JUST SHRINKING VIOLETS THEY WERE VERY STRONG. THIS ENDED BUT IT LEFT SOME UNANSWERED QUESTIONS, GUESS THEY WILL GET ANSWERED AS THE SERIES GOES ON. IT DIDN'T END, END BUT IT DIDN'T SPOIL IT AT ALL. ;D

There’s a battle going on between environmentalists and power boat racers on little Sebec Lake in Maine.

But, that’s not the biggest problem. People are dying. They’re being murdered.

This is a different sort of premise for a mystery. While it is very interesting, the author does not quite pull it off. There are several words misused, or just typos. The characters are a little flat. The reader doesn’t really get to know them. I like my mysteries with a little added background information so that I feel I can get to know the characters more fully.

I want to thank NetGalley and Black Rose Writing for forwarding to me a copy of this book for me to read and review. The opinions expressed here are solely my own.

Dead to the World is the third and final book in the Doug Bateman series, but unfortunately, it didn’t end on a high note for me. While I appreciated the overarching storyline involving Doug and Anne, this installment felt tedious at times. The writing came across as somewhat sloppy, with noticeable spelling mistakes and even instances where characters were given the wrong surname.

The book was just so boring that I found myself more eager for it to end rather than being fully immersed in the mystery. The story had potential, but the execution made it difficult to stay engaged. While I’m glad I read all three books to follow the full arc of Doug and Anne’s journey, I was hoping for a stronger, more satisfying conclusion to the series

Finally, Anne did not need saving, though she dropped her gun and had a luck shot with her baton. Can she just, for once, be represented as competent and confident? The bright side is a male colleague was the one getting injured after a bad call.

Still not faced paced. Like the second in the series, the book leaves you without a tidy bow on all the murders.

3rd installment in Bateman trilogy. Doug and Anne team up to figure out two murders and a bunch of vandalism before Sebec Lake’s big patio boat race (pontoons for us Midwesterners). Fun to read about Maine.

I just finished all three books in this series. I enjoyed the development of the characters and the twists and turns that lead us though each crime. Being in Maine, I also enjoyed the familiarity of the locations. Thanks for a great series!

Interesting - Luna Moth

Several storylines are intertwined. A luna moth symbolizes the feelings of the people in Central Maine towards outsiders and those who want to disturb the environment.

Really liked this book and the series overall. The characters draw you in and a great storyline. Hopefully there will be more (its been a while since this one came out) as there were unanswered questions about Doug and Ann ....would love an ending at least though on going stories even better
