Supergirl’s journey across the cosmos continues! Her hunt to bring the killer Krem to justice brings her and the young alien in her care to a small planet, where they discover that there are still some very small minds, even on the outer edges of the galaxy. The cold welcome the locals give the Woman of Steel makes her suspicious enough to go looking for secrets they want to keep buried, and what she finds is nothing short of horrifying. Can she and Ruthye get off the planet alive now that these deadly sins have been exposed?
This series is brilliant. Having a superhero story told from a point of view that isn't from the super hero themselves, makes them seem more heroic
The story in this issue isn't anything super original, but seeing everything unfold from Ruthye's point of view adds so much emotion that I actually got lost in this world and forgot I was reading a comic.
Also love the full page spreads in this book, in particular the one where Kara is flying with Ruthye.
Hope that King, Evely, and Lopes can continue this for the next 5 issues
Supergirl unreveals the truth on a certain planet and you get to see just how small a single person is compared to the horrors of the world. This was a really solid issue with excellent art.
this chapter is so striking. there’s a scene where one of the blue’s (type of alien) shoots kara in the eye and the bullet is crumpled where a tear could be.
really interested in seeing how james gunn is going to adapt the overt genocide that’s happening on this page.
The balance of wholesomeness and the dark turns in the story oml I love the dynamic between Ruthye and Supergirl… also need a piggy back ride from Supergirl while she flies around that sounds so fun
A classic story where a stranger walks into town and discovers a hidden secret. The artwork was nice and the story was well done. It wasn't anything special or unexpected but the racist undertones of the story and the violence it causes are all to common. Confronting them is the only path forward.
The episodic nature of the story works so well — both in advancing the narrative and with the medium of comics. Each issue tells a story that also acts as a kernel of the larger quest.
The allegory here — blues segregating and then aiding in the extermination of purples — is lacking in depth, but it works well as an allegory. We learn more about Supergirl’s moral compass in the process as well. She’s more than just a surly, cursing wayfarer!
Evely’s art, as in previous issues, steals the show. She imbues each interstellar stop in the journey with whimsy, spectacle, and painful beauty. Plus, she does a fantastic job with action sequences: SG swiping a bullet from her eye; SG and Ruthye flying, blasting through the sky.
easily my fave issue so far. the art is so vibrant & panelling soo masterfully paced & composed to suit the moment. story so perfectly balances* the intimate personal, character relationship between supergirl & ruthye with the larger stakes & isolated story of the planet they're on...
started reading this series as per my friend's recommendation & the pitch that the supergirl film will be adapting this run...idk if the movie will touch on this but i hope if they do this issue - they either do it right or not at all lol
(*forgive the lack of a better word - they're not quite at odds but sometimes can feel like it in other stories.)
“it’s too big. we’re too small.” this line is said just as darkness falls upon maypole in issue 3 of SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW. this series continues to impress. it tackles the topic of genocide in a heartfelt way, illustrating that feeling of helplessness and frustration with the world. this is just such an important story that also happens to be insanely well told and illustrated. there’s so much to say, but i’ll leave that for my entire series review.
Tom King continues to grow as a writer. This road trip story is awesome and this issue is one of the better. The narrator really makes the whole thing.
lowkey ship Kara and Ruthye… so i’m assuming Krypto was put down? I mean he’s not even mentioned here. Kara and Ruthye go to look for the man who murdered Ruthyes father, but come up unlucky…

Love the comic, but I just kept repeating "Tom King wrote this" the entire time I read it. He is no one to talk about this shit, he brags about the ones he done himself.
