Good story

Good story about zombies and the survival of the fittest. Also a good story about friends and what they do for each other.

Seriously if you don't check out Among the Living the 1st book of the series, then get Among the Dead by Timothy Long... you will be missing out on a fabulous series! *****Timothy check out last line!!!!****
This Series is based out of Seattle & has several main characters. These are not your usual characters either.
Mike- is a reporter that finds love in book 1 & finds loss as well. In AtD he finds himself in many scary situations but he also finds himself in a great position to get the stories of the survivors.
Lester- Drug dealer that suffers loss of his own as well & decides to do something about it in Book 2. His love, Angela, is his motivator, to kill as many deaders as he can.
Kate- I don't even know how to begin to describe Kate other than Unique in her own ways. Yes she is a bit crazy & is a killer but in the World gone mad that's actually a positive thing to survive. Once she has her swords or a gun.. let's say you don't want to be a deader or well anyone that would stand in her way.
Grinder- Heavy Metal musician that thinks that the ZA is his muse to make some metal songs! He is also loyal. if you look out for him, he'll look out for you & will stay by yourside.
introducing in Book 2
Mark- country boy that helps Kate w/a rescue mission... whether that mission goes well or falls apart? well I guess you'll just have to read the book to find out.
Anders- part of the rescue mission to save his sister, Kara.
Shayne- a man that deals w/chronic pain every day of his life. He is @ work w/Kara & others including someone you may just try to reach through the book & give them a good smack!
Johnny-Boy- An old Nam vet that lives on the streets of Seattle & isn't afraid to yell at the deaders through a chain length fence. He seems to have no concern for his own safety like he's not afraid of death.
Misty- *aka Bait* She is stuck in the same place as Johnny when the crap hits the fan! I have a feeling we'll learn more in book 3 but only Timothy Long knows that...
there is a LOT of action in this book! I love the different POV's that Timothy writes from! You get to see through the eyes of that character. You get to know that character's thoughts, fears, etc.
I hope you really try this series! I am going to try my hardest to wait patiently as Timothy Long finishes Book 3!!! *********hint, hint to you, Mister Long!********** Enjoy this book & don't forget to write a review for your authors! whether you liked it or not let the authors know if you enjoyed it or if there were parts you didn't! thanks!

First off, Among the Dead is the sequel (and second in a planned trilogy) to Timothy Long's zombie apocalypse novel Among the Living. If you haven't read that book, this one is going to be hard to get into. Second, I have to admit I didn't love Among the Living. There were things I liked, namely the four main characters, but it wasn't the easiest book to get into. Still, I liked it enough to give Among the Dead a go, and I'm glad I did, as Long shows some real progress here.

In this book, we revisit the reporter, the metal singer, the drug dealer and the female serial killer we first met in Among the Living. The zombie apocalypse is in full swing, and the survivors are gathered in a stadium (shades of Katrina). As each one is pulled in separate (and very disturbing) directions, we get a look at the government response to the situation, which doesn't bode well for anyone.

Zombie 411 - The zombies in this series are the typical Romero-style shamblers, but there are some 28 Days Later-style sprinters as well. And there are lots of them.

The good - Long did a great job in the first book developing his four main characters, and he continues that here. He also introduces (and in some cases, disposes of) some great supporting characters. The pace of the story is much more brisk than book one, which helps keep the pages turning, and the action is well choreographed and very, very bloody.

The not so good - I still have a very hard time with the fact that one lead character's scenes are first person narrated while the others are in the third person. It's jarring to switch back and forth, and I don't think you gain any insight into that character that you wouldn't otherwise achieve.

It never really jumps to "essential" status, but Among the Dead is a big step forward from Among the Living, and that's a promising sign for the eventual third book in the series. If you enjoyed the first book, you're going to love Among the Dead, and if you're a fan of all things zombie, this is a series that ought to satisfy.

The first book had an interesting enough set up and was in a location I was familiar with, so I was willing to give the second book in the series a chance in hopes that the writing got better and the story payed off in the ways I hoped it would. I was VERY disappointed.

The writing didn't get better, if anything it got worse. Whole huge sections of the story were filled with characters that did nothing to move the plot or story forward and were killed having had no effect on anything. Characters were added to point of view narration late in the book not giving them time to be developed and once again not really adding anything to the story. The story over all felt like it was pretty much where it was at the start of the book which only added to the book feeling like a waste of time.

But the biggest problem for me was that ALL of the point of view characters were assholes and totally unsympathetic. Maybe if I had been a sexist, macho, red neck piece of shit I would have loved the shit out of this book (nah, I would have been too macho to "love" anything), but being I'm not I have to say I hated it. It left me with not a single person to really be rooting for in this book except for the zombies. Perhaps it isn't that the book is badly written, perhaps it was just not for me. Even so I find it hard to believe anyone would enjoy sitting through the rape scene that was far too long and detailed in all the wrong ways.

A great addition to the zombie genre! You really come to care about the characters in this book. Fast paced and lots of gorey goodness! Looking forward to more from this author.

I give this book 4.5 stars and would recommend it to zombie fans everywhere!

What a difference a few years more experience can do for a writer. When I read his first novel Among The Living I was sorely disappointed in Mr. Long's writing and had no intention of reading more work by the man. But I put myself on the waiting list for this the second book when I got out the first and forgot, so when it came available I just decided to read it anyway. They are fast reads. I'm glad I gave Mr. Long a second look because Among The Dead was a vast improvement over his first attempt. The gratuitous sex that ran rampant throughout the first novel is gone. This allowed the reader to better "buy into" this world of Seattle. I'm actually looking forward to reading the third novel in this series. With any luck Mr. Long's writing skills will keep improving and the third book could be spectacular.

Tim Long is one of my favorite authors. He writes about humanity while dealing with the undead. His characters are brazenly different. There are few cliche to ever leave his fingertips at the key board. From a serial killer that is one of the most sympathetic characters you will ever read, to a journalist that is trying to put his life together in the middle of an outbreak. Where in the world did he find a spot in his creative mind to make a drug dealer a hero and a rock star that finds "metal" at every turn?

Pretty good, I liked it more as it went on. Kate is quite the conundrum; I like her and dislike the "other". She has become one of my favorite characters; quite conflicted to say the least. I wonder if she was the muse for Walking Dead's katana wielding female? There must be another book coming since this one comes to a close as Seattle is "cleansed", but without complete closure. Ah yes, the prologue announces that there is another "Among the Ashes". I look forward to it.

Though not as fresh or as good as the first book the series, it's still a solid entry to the zombie/apocalyptic genre. I wanted to find out what happened to Mike and Kate who at the end of book 1 had arrived at supposed sanctuary of the Seattle sports stadium. This book covers the week after this, with plently of action, and dealing with the consequences of the first book. The ending was pretty sad and shocking.

I really enjoyed this story. The writing style made a really noticeable improvement since the first novel, which made the book much more pleasant to read. The plot and the characters were great. I could have done without being introduced to so many characters that didn't have a real role in the story, but that's just a minor nitpick. I can't wait for the next story to come out.

A good continuation of Among the Living with the main characters returning and now relatively safe within the stadium, but as we all know with zombie books, nothing is ever 100% safe. Finished with a bang, literally, and a rather shocking incident so I'm looking forward to the release of Among the Ashes to see how it all finishes off.

Wondering...

I'm definitely wondering where on earth the story is going to go from where it ended in this one. The story is interesting, but things are really grim and I like a story with a little more hope.

I enjoyed this more than book one (less sex and women's bodies described in massive detail). would recommend to fellow zombie fans. can't wait to hear the last part! .
