Rating: ⭐⭐ Genre: Young Adult + Dystopia + Novella
The maid is only one scene. Not sure why is it even numbered as 3.3. It is one scene told from the perspective of the castle maid, Lucy. It covers her relationship with Aspen, her dreams, and her struggle with jealousy. I’m currently reading these novellas in order to get into the second era of The Selection series, i.e. books four and five. This was the shortest as it’s only one scene (about 13 pages). Although it is nice to read Lucy’s perspective, I don’t think the author has given her enough length to be understood and connected with.
“You think you walk, Lucy? I think you fly. You see yourself in a uniform? I see you in a cape. You’re a hero, of the quietest but most genuine nature.”
bye why are they better at communicating than the main characters 😭😭
poor lucy honestly. she just got shoved right into the middle of this. she is my favorite maid of Americas and i love her delicate form and her kindness and how open she is with America.
IT WAS SO FREAKING CUTE🤚🏻🙂↔️✨🫶🏻🧡 In this novella we follow the same scenes that we saw Lucy on The One by her POV! I really love this girl and I found her so cute and polite aka PERFECT for Aspen! Also taking into consideration their backstories who are tragic enough for both of them I think that they are destined to be together and will understand each other more than anyone else would do! 4⭐
I simply cannot get enough of this series and these characters. How have I never read this series before? I am drawing it out because I don't want it to end!
< “You think you walk, Lucy? I think you fly. You see yourself in a uniform? I see you in a cape. You're a hero, of the quietest but most genuine nature.” > ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ < “It took years for her to have that effect on me. It took weeks for you.” >
< I should be grateful. But I was so tired of being grateful for a half-lived life. >
< “My mom was born a Four,” he confessed. “She gave up everything to be with my dad. Sometimes they would talk about how they started off their marriage-homeless, with smiles on their faces.” >
< “You think you walk, Lucy? I think you fly. You see yourself in a uniform? I see you in a cape. You're a hero, of the quietest but most genuine nature.” >
< I gazed at the ground. No one talked about me like that. I was just a maid. I was just a Six. I didn't matter. >
Should’ve read this before The Heir🤦🏼♀️. Anyway, this was nice. I may have detached from Lucy when I stopped reading this series for a while, so I didn’t quite care about her. All in all, 👍🏼
There was a scene in the one where Anne asked America about Aspen and it hinted that relationship. It would have made more sense if it was a Lucy. they should’ve had more flirt moments in the one. I think that would’ve made them more believable.
