In the Unitam Realm, power determines where you belong. And Claire just unlocked more of it.
More questions than answers is the story of Claire’s life now. Where is she from? Who are her parents? And why was her vision the cost of binding her magic?
She survived her first year at the Academy, but someone out there seems determined she won’t live to see the second one. Dark magic is calling beasts out of the Elven Forest that haven’t been seen since the Great War, and they all seem to have a strange fixation on Claire.
Her Triad and friends have sworn to protect her, but Claire doesn’t want to lose the family she’s just found in them. She’ll have to figure out how to control her rapidly growing magic if she wants to be the Champion of the Realm the Academy has called her to be.
With dark magic beasts, an over-interested Council, and magic that just keeps growing, Claire will have to venture into the Elven Forest in her hunt for answers about her parents, her birthright, and the true start of the Great War.

This was an ok second book. We have more questions then answer this time around, some things come to light, while Clair gets closer to her tirade and starts meeting some of their families. There are definitely snakes all around them, and no one can truly be trusted other then Claires chosen little family. The hardest issue for me was the the constant back and fourth of Claires crazy feelings, " I can do it", then, " im not sure I'm strong enough ". I want to know who my parents were". I need answers!! Then, " lets not find you, do we need to know?. Her constant change of feelings and emotions gave me serious whiplash. I'm also having a hard time with her men being the strongest tirade in the realm, yet seem to be save constantly by claire? I mean I get she's strong, but her guys seem like that can't handle pretty much anything?
I got bored reading this one☹️ More and more questions, less and less answers as much as you began lost any interest for the story. It felt sometimes that the action was stuck, nothing moved or too slowly. Not a lot happened in fact...you could summarize this volume in 2-3 sentences I think... Finally there was steam! 🙄 The "slow burn" thing made sense considering the personality of the FMC but at some point just do it🙄🙈 Well, I really hope that the next one will be better...
I'm finding that I'm a little obsessed with this storyline and wishing the 3 book was released now! I need so much that after writing this review I would be jumping immediately in the next book this series.. Oh boy how I wish..
Oh well I guess I'll be sitting here waiting for the next book installment. Hmph, this sucks!!
Hmmm... this was definitely not as good as the first book.
All the eyerolling performed by the characters made me start rolling my eyes 👀. Obviously, it's the only way the author can describe certain feelings - by using eye rolls. Tooooo much!
Annoying, - but I'll finish Claires story, but I won't continue with Holly.
I loved it. I liked the progression of the relationship between Claire, Desmond, Everett and Malcolm. I would have like a bit more of her friends though. Also I’m a bit worried about all the answers we still need to get. Really excited for the conclusion of this trilogy.
not quite 2 & 1/2 stars. Well, this was a confusing hot mess. This still flowed slow, like book 1 did. Also the wording is still awkward, you can't mix modern versus old world language. It was a tiny bit better than book one on not switching as much from first to third person though it was still awkward. The story takes a turn at the very beginning, even though it's still predictable. Now the FMC is no longer blind & has more power/magic than anybody in this world it seems even though she's still partially blocked somehow. Her special snowflake-ness is revealed and it's no surprise or shock to learn . Things are too easily laid out to not be predictable in this series. To me, the characters didn't feel like the same ones from book 1. Claire isn't even likable in this book, her back & forth from insecurity to being able to do anything, or even from virginal knows nothing of men to seductress/tease, just got old since it went on thru the whole of book 2. I also felt the going from blind to not blind caused a lot of hiccups in the plot, the author would have been better off letting Claire remember having sight before going blind, than trying to throw in all the stuff she'd have to learn about after suddenly developing sight at 25. Too much time & effort to rehabilitate her sight knowledge was spent in the plot & not even done well, like when she first opened her eyes after getting sight- she knew her Triads' eye colors, but yet later, she has to be explained what colors are what, since she didn't know colors. And for the love of God, when your life, or the ones you love are at stake, kill the freaking beasts that are attacking, quit trying to play the "to gentle & loving" to want to kill anything card! It's just not comprehensible, it's your or your loved one's life OR the vicious beast's -sort of thing...instead of wasting all the effort, strength & power on trying to NOT kill them but capture or whatever. Those 2 situations were just wrong on so many levels, it ruined the book for me. As for the strongest Triad, they were wounded or depleted of power so fast in the few situations they were thrown into where they could prove they were the awesome Triad they've been played up to be, that it made them look like a wimpy useless Triad instead. Just too many inconsistencies overall for this to get a better star rating. I don't believe I will continue with the series as of this point, I just don't like the way the plot & characters are headed.
This book had more issues than the first. Don't get me wrong, it had more of the same grammar issues, but this book had the addition of continuity errors. Things that were said or done in the first book were referenced as never happening, etc. Then there's the language issue. Why make it a point to say 'depth of vision' rather than depth perception? I mean, if it's because Unitam is so completely different from Earth that none of the sayings are the same...OK, fine, but then stop using things like downlow. The plot of this book was painfully predictable, to the point where I'm not planning on reading the next book. I have the author a shot, but this book was a 2.25 stars after the first was only a 2.75, so I'm finished with this author.
On re-read I decided to lower my rating. Clare's self-sacrificing and passive nature is annoying.
I also believe this is the end of the road for me after reading the reviews for book 3. It is implied that Clare loses her sight and her magic again in book three (one of my absolute "no thank you's" in a book) I also read that the questions I have are never really answered.
3.75 This book wasn't quite as captivating as the first and I found myself skimming at times due to the slow pacing. That being said, I'm still looking forward to the next book and hope it answers all the new questions I now have after reading this installment.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first one and I think it's because personally I've never cared much for politics. So all this stuff about warring factions and fabricated history was not very interesting to me. As this is down to personal taste, I didn't deduct stars for it.
But also I felt that Book 1 was unique -- it's rare to have an FMC with any kind of disability -- and that this uniqueness was lost in Book 2. Unfortunately -- stop reading here if you haven't read Book 1 yet, because it's a major spoiler for that book -- the author chose to have the FMC miraculously "healed" at the end of the book. Something had bound her magic, but the bonds broke, and when they broke, she got her sight back. I was really disappointed by this. It would have been wonderful to have a badass blind protagonist save the realm.
So at the beginning of book 2, Claire is adjusting to having sight. There are some moments of wonder and some disorientation, especially when she is training to fight (because she gets distracted by what she can see, and forgets to rely on her other senses as she used to) but at the same time, the adjustment also seems to happen too quickly and easily.
One moment she's looking into Everett's green eyes and marvelling how green they are, the next moment he's explaining the colours of the jewels in the hilts of the Elven and Fae daggers because, while she knows the words, she has never seen colours so she doesn't know the names for what she's seeing. Well, then how does she know that Everett has green eyes?
It seems to me that being able to see now means she has to put names to everything -- you wouldn't know a chair if you saw it, only if you were to feel it with your hands. But she doesn't appear to have difficulty knowing what is what or to fumble much, apart from some issues with depth perception. This part of the story felt unrealistic.
I was also over how many times it was mentioned that her mates are protective and how many times she expressed worry for them and they for her. It was a mutual worry fest and so repetitive. And also the constant self-doubt and negative self-talk (there's one time where she castigates herself and calls herself stupid for not realising she could use her magic in a simple way to help her do what she needs to do).
I also disliked how she never really tells her mates that she's being guided by her magic, because she doesn't want to trigger their protectiveness or make them upset that she's doing these random, possibly dangerous things just because she has a feeling that it's what she should do. She even thinks of ignoring or denying the urgings of her magic due to her protective feelings for her mates and not wanting them to get hurt. As I said, this I don't want to get hurt refrain kept recurring over and over again and it got old fast.
Because of this, I felt she was rather wimpy and selfish cos she wasn't thinking about the good of the realm, but only about how she would feel if one of her mates got hurt. I suppose this is natural, but come on, she has been told she is to be the Champion of the Realm and she suspects the Council is up to no good, that injustices were committed upon the Fae and the Elves. But she keeps asking if she really wants to know the answers to the questions about her past and her powers and the reason why she is being hunted.
"We could all just turn back and stay in the Academy and be safe," she thinks multiple times. I felt impatient with her because I felt she wasn't committed to her own journey of discovery and identity and she kept wavering. I don't blame her for having qualms, but I didn't like that she knows she's being hunted and that she needs answers, yet she considered aborting the mission, as if that would solve anything. I suppose her fears for her mates' safety were only normal, but I like my heroines to have a bit more spine and determination rather than constantly wringing their hands and considering sticking their head into the sand.
Then there's the issue of not wanting to kill creatures that are attacking her! She's all, "I don't want to take a life." I feel like the author wanted to show that she is gentle and has compassion and conscience, but I just thought she was daft. You're being attacked, it's either you die or the creature dies! The situation is urgent, we don't have the luxury of trying to stay on a moral high horse here!
Let's also talk about how it's possible to recognise someone just because their EYES look exactly like someone else's eyes. At least if you say person 2 is a splitting image of person 1, that makes a little more sense. But the EYES? Using "You have X's eyes" as a positive identification and never questioning or searching for farther proof? Okay, it's a magical realm so maybe there are no DNA tests, but at least say person 2 has the same magic signature as person 1, or something! And explain how magic signatures are unique, so they are trustworthy identifiers!
The story felt long and slow. The unveiling of Claire's past didn't even surprise me because there had already been so much build-up with the fact that she has unusually strong magical abilities, she's been appointed a Champion of the Realm, she's a Fourth and a mate to one of the most powerful triads in the realm... not to mention that she can basically do almost anything with her magic because she's so powerful, and quite a few times it's mentioned that she shouldn't have been able to do that or that very few people are able to do it, yet she did it effortlessly. So as readers, we are primed to find out that she comes from a very unique, important, and powerful family, blah blah blah.
I will read the next book for closure but I can already see what is coming from a mile away. I guess this is also a preference thing, wanting a fiestier FMC -- not necessarily badass; she could still be afraid but could nevertheless have told herself, "I will do this because I need to have answers. I'm not going to give up till I discover more of who I am. I need to find out who's after me and put a stop to that." This, I did deduct a star for. It's also personal taste, but, you know, Claire was much more interesting to me in Book 1 than in Book 2 due to this.
I really really like the premise and the idea for this series. However, this book feels like it’s written YA, but there are a few intimate scenes so it’s not YA… it’s confusing. I don’t like YA and I would never have picked up the series if I was told this beforehand.
I love her triad: Desmond, the playful sorcerer; Malcom, the growly dragon shifter; and Emmit, the sensitive Griffin shifter. I have mixed feelings about our FMC Claire.
At first I really liked Claire. She was a sweet, blind, powerless, and disadvantaged witch. However, as the book progresses I’m getting more and more annoyed with her. I understand that her blindness has put her at a disadvantage but she seems to have the sexual maturity of a 13 year old. ‘What is that funny feeling in my belly when he kisses me?’, ‘What is happening to my body?’, ‘What is that hardness pressing against me?’, she giggles like a preteen when talking to her friends about her men kissing her…it all just rubs me wrong. This woman is 25 years old. I don’t care if she’s blind, there is no way she has never touched herself or felt any type of arousal in her life.
The relationships seem to be progressing at a snails pace. The men are letting Claire take the lead on everything, but this girl doesn’t even know what a penis is, so she’s not going to progress it anywhere on her own.
The plot is also moving at a snails pace. Nothing happens FOREVER! In the first book only one itty bitty tiny thing happens at the end. This book has a couple exciting incidents but honestly they spend both books training. Training, training, and more training. No plot movement. No relationship development. Just training and going to classes. More stuff needs to happen.
Anyways, I’m still interested in the story. I still want to read the next one. Unfortunately I have to wait a year for the next book to come out, so I can’t say that I’ll still be interested then.
The spice picked up in this one. I still like the characters and the story line kept me interested but it dragged a little due to the detailed minutiae the author described. I liked the guys in general but the relationship style isn’t my personal preference. They baby her so much. I prefer men that protect but challenge a woman (and vice versa). And, I prefer a FMC that is mentally stronger than this… but her character makes sense given the context of her history… and she IS growing, just slowly. Still, the writing is good and they are all good characters- ones I want to se have a happy ending… so on to the next.
With Her Sight, the second book of the Unitam Realm series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU).
I enjoyed book one so much more. Claire seemed to be a stronger, more decisive person when she was blind. In this story, she constantly second-guessed everything. All the stop and starts with sleeping with her harem got annoying after awhile, too. Some unexpected plot twists kept my interest enough to continue with the series. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for more relationship development.
The worst part of stress is the headaches it gives you. Yesterday I had a nasty one and this morning it was still nagging me a little, so I wanted a book that wasn't too big and too complicated. And since I really flew through the first book in the series, I was certain I would also fly through the second book, which made it the obvious choice for today. Before work I read more than 1/3rd already and after work I read the rest.
Quite often middle books drag a little. We've been introduced to the world and the characters and we're basically getting ready for the big finale. Although this book has a little bit of that, with little to no action and not that much new information, it never bored me at all. I quite enjoyed watching the heroine deepen her bonds with her guys and balancing her triad with her circle of friends. Just like I did enjoy exploring new parts of the world.
I also really loved meeting so many animals! The author really showed her creativity when it comes to her world building. It's hard to be original, since so many fantasy worlds have been built and since it's hard to come up with something that hasn't been done, but I really felt like I was discovering an out of this world place in this novel, partly because of the animals and partly because of the magic and how insanely creative it could be used.
I still think the author has some growing to do as an author. Although there were quite a lot less info-dumps in this book and information was given and explained way more naturally, the descriptions were sometimes a little too detailed. It lead to some repetitive use of words and for some reason the rhythm of the sentences sometimes seemed a little basic. But, like I said, I think writing wise this book was clearly better than the first one already.
The second book was just ok for me. Claire was a bit all over the place. I love strong female leads but I didn't enjoy how her strenght was potrayed. Being strong doesn't mean you have to make someone look weak or dumb. Her mates are the strongest males in the whole realm but she ends up saving them with very simple moves. The men all act as if they couldn't have possibly thought of the idea (almost dumbfounded).... For me would have been more believable if they worked as a team complementing each others strenghts. There is also just way too much explaining which makes the characters lose a bit of their charm. I think in a fighting scenes this makes the males look weak and it dumbifies their character. Even if males yelled out the orders to her that would still be ok because they are a unit.
There is again lot of repetition which is why I am making this a 2 star read. I think you can read the 2nd book as a standalone due to this. For example when they meet Desmond's parents they literally summarize the 1st book. In addition, I am not a fan of narrative style, it can come of very repetitive. For example ( totally making this up as I can't think of a concret example): Claire was happy, it was a beautiful sunny day. Then couple of lines down: "I am so happy, it is so sunny outside", Claire said ... Lastly, there is not much progress with any of the males - still a very slow burn RH. I understand they are on a mission in this book but the romance sizzles down as soon as it heats up (Claire is hungry )...
**WARNING! Cliffhanger!** this ends on a cliffhanger, but not a life threatening one.
Claire and her triad are working through the changes in her when term ends at the academy. Then it’s off on a trip to the home of one of her mates, before they set out on a quest for answers.
This second volume in the series is just as attention grabbing as the first. We see some pretty big relationship changes in this book, along with some answers to some of Claire’s most pressing questions. There are also some interesting developments in the overarching background story, and the history of their world.
All in all, an action and magic filled story, that fans of fantasy and epic fantasy (who don’t mind their tales a little spicy) will enjoy. A thoroughly entertaining series so far.
The little blind “human,” becomes who she really is…
Hidden behind a magical binding & blind eyes is a loving, strong, & honorable warrior. So much so, that she may become the champion of the realm. Little did Claire & her triad know that they’d have to face more than prejudiced witches, shifters, & the Counselors of the Realm to find their place. Claire & her men are no longer “safe” anywhere. After dark magic attacks, it is only smart to find where it is coming from. Sadly, it may be from where Claire herself comes from as well. It’s time that Claire searches for her lost family, & it will not be a find stroll down memory lane. I luv the characters, the settings, & or the flow of the writing, as this tale unwinds.
Sunny Hart continues to bring freshness and compelling storytelling. Her heroine has her issues, makes mistakes and is not indestructible, but in the capable hands of the author, these are virtues, not faults. Not everything is neatly resolved but you will be very satisfied with the ending. I promise!
Let's not forget Hart's ability to breathe life into a huge array of minor characters who just HAVE to have interesting back stories you would really love to know more about. There are too many to list but the worlds inhabited by the peripheral cast just beg to be explored.
Hats off to you, Sunny! Already looking forward to your next book.
Madame Hart, you are just a Cruel and Evil woman !!!! To leave a "cliffhanger" like that. That's just plain mean !!!! The first book was good. This one is better. At least in my opinion. Now I have to go and check the release date for the third book. I hate when I read a book the same day it released. Now I have to wait weeks, if not months for the conclusion of the story. I guess I am going to be buying the first two books. That way I can go back and re-read them.
I'm thinking if you are reading this. Then you will want to go and get the first book in this trilogy. You will not be disappointed I promise you !!!!
Wow. Just like book one, book two of this series brings readers a fantastic story with unique and lovable characters and romance. I am so enthralled in this story and where it could possibly end up, it’s going to be extremely difficult to wait for the next book. The questions behind Claire, her powers and her origins keep you wanting more! I want to give an entire synopsis of this series and give each reason for loving it so much but that would take too long. This is an incredibly interesting plot with refreshing characters and mysteries and I cannot wait to read further.
With Her Sight continues Claire’s story as she starts looking for answers into her origins and the truth behind the Great War. I loved this book, it had me hooked right from the beginning all the way through until the massive cliffhanger at the end (I’m really looking forward to the next book). Claire really came into her own in this book and started finding the confidence that had been stripped from her during her younger life. I also loved her mates protectiveness but also that they listened to her and trusted her when she said something. Overall, this was a fantastic book and I would recommend giving it a read.
Claire's aventure continues in the second book of the Unitam Realm Series and if By Her Sight had me with a silly smile on my face all the time, With Her Sight was even better! As I said in my last review of Sunny"s work: I loved all the relationships within the book, Claire growing into her power and gaining self-confidence and her mate bonds with Desmond, Malcolm and Everret. If you're looking for a read that leaves you with that warm feeling in your chest and dying to know what happens next, this series is for you <3 Bring on the next book!
3,5 stars It was good as the first one was, even tho i felt something missing. The first part was a lil slow but it got better and the last part there where so much things that was happening. I had my questions and suspicions, like if she where fae, elfe, half witch and half something else and i actually wondered if she could have been royal, more about the guys parents and more. You really get a lot of your questions answered in this one, still there is new ones popping up. Aand now we have to wait until the next and the last one
I have never said someone’s name in every other sentence. Yet, in this book, the love interests are constantly saying the MC pet names. It is distracting. Little this, little that. Annoying.
The storyline itself is slow. I found myself skimming. Claire seems to be a nice virgin, who can take a huge member without pain. I’m sure childbirth will be painless for her too.
One good thing is that the MC doesn’t take anyone for their word except her friends. She does question things.
I am so happy to see Claire grow into herself and forget all of the harsh words that have been thrown at her over the years. She is finally flourishing in terms of her magic, her relationships, and her confidence. I have absolutely loved this series so far and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next installment. Also, I have to say that I am not usually a fan of slow burn, but this story was so good I barely noticed.
Second book was amazing!! Claire just got her vision back, and this was due to the releasing of her bound magic. You read how she struggles to adjust to color, sight, shapes, and etc.... This book we learn more about the past war and history and how the council lied (shocker). Things are not adding up and Claire, her males, and her friends learn that everything they know is a lie and now they are trying to untangle the past.
Claire gets an adorable, mischief familiar named Puck.
Also, this book hints that Claire is both Elven and Fae royalty. So super powerful and rare. Claire also learns more about her Elven side, specifically her mother. Her mother is dead, but she leaves Claire journals and hopefully clues and answers.
I am looking forward to reading the next book and the adventures she and males get into!
Harem: Desmond (witch), Everett (Gryphon), and Malcom (Dragon)
Sexiness: 4 out 5. Claire is starting to complete her mating bonds so the passion, intimacy, and steaminess increase! Also, her males become more possessive and obsessive over Claire, and it is quite humorous to read about.
The world building in this second book is amazing. We see the characters grow, especially Claire. I adore how her Triad won't let her out of their sight. Their devotion and attention to her is swoonworthy. Their relationships progress in this book, too. I love the addition of the Notus. Claire finds out some very important answers, but the sadness those answers bring is hard for her to deal with. I am very interested to see where Claire and her Triad's journey takes them next.
