I was between 3 and four stars on this one but ultimately decided on four. Book three was an enjoyable read, but once again, Vardeman has this odd, weird, sexual/rape fantasy unnecessarily tossed in. I know he is trying to make the bad guy, really unlikable, but he does so at the point of making it uncomfortable and not needed.
Besides that, the rest of the book is a pretty fun read. There is a major reference to pac man, which at the time of this book, was sweeping the nation, and make for a fun detail.
If you ever played Skyrim, one of the main villains is very close to Cicero, and I found his character one of the more enjoyable ones.
I was really hoping book 3 went the route of the Seventh Son series where our hero really starts to understand his magic and hone in on it, but unfortunately, he still struggles with magic, and it once again sees him stumbling through spells.
I think the first book was still the best, followed by the second, and this is the weakest of the three. I felt like Krek, who is the best in the series was somewhat of an after thought in this one, and his funny, self deprecating tone was forgotten about.
I will take a break before jumping into book four, but overall a good entry into the series.

This is a good fantasy story, it is #3 in the Cenotaph Road series. I think I would have given 4 *'s if I had read the previous two books. I had a few questions that were probably explained in the earlier stories. This is a tale of good vs. evil as friendships build between different species. The evil mage needs to be stopped and there is lots of ideas for several more books. I liked Lan and his friend Krek and their journey is exciting and epic.

Great pulpy fantasy from the 1970s. Magic, technology, warrior women who kick ass and take names! All this and a friendly giant spider who likes to criticize humans because they don't have enough legs!

Totally fun and I love the Dungeons and Dragons and Pac-Man references! Excellent appendix N material. Again, I absolutely love the cover art and looking forward to reading the next book.

This book pick up where directly where The Sorcerer's Skull leaves off. In fact, and I was a little confused here, but the first chapter in this book seems to be the last chapter of the previous book with more embellishment. This took me a few pages to figure it out, but then I was okay with it, if not a little mystified.
Like the previous two books in this series, I really enjoy this storyline. Claybore is not a main player in this book, but he is not missed, as Luister len-Larrotti does a fine job of being the sick and twisted bad guy. I couldn't wait to see how he was gonna get his comeuppance.
I really do enjoy Mr. Vardeman's writing style. It is simple, quick, and easy to read. The story moves along at a fast pace and the action is always ready to jump out from around the corner and keep the reader interested. I can't wait to see what happens on the next world in the next book!
